World War III, often abbreviated as WWIII or WW3, was a major conflict between dozens of countries. It is also known as the first full scale war involving the United Nations and is a precursor to the UN Space Command.

Timeline[]

Pre-War[]

Oil Crisis[]

There were a number of events that led up to the massive conflict. In the Spring of 2010, the Ford and General Motors automotive companies merged to make a last ditch attempt to save either company from complete collapse. This helped the economy of the United States to finally rise from its multi-year recession. However, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries took note of this and once again raised their prices on crude oil, making the price for gas in the States an average of $6.00 per gallon. With the obvious future of a second depression guaranteed within eight months, if not sooner, Barack Obama and the House of Congress gave OPEC an ultimatum. OPEC ignored and further raised prices. In order to stimulate the economy, the emergency oil reserve was released, increasing the supply to fufill more of the demand and lower the price, though this was stopped weeks later to retain some reserves. All oil companies restricted their sales to prolongue the supply. In fall of the same year, the United States government finally took military action along with the aid of Canada, the United Kingdom, and France. A total of 11,000 soldiers were quickly deployed to Yemen and Saudi Arabia to secure oil facilities for their respective countries. Supported by over thirty destroyers, seventeen littoral combat ships, and seven carriers, the force secured 21% of OPEC oil supplies in three months while enduring guerilla assaults by Saudi forces.

In February, the first true battle of the conflict, the Oil Crisis, took place when over 200 Saudi soldiers attacked three platoons of U.S. and U.K. special forces in the town of Abha, specifically the British Special Air Service, US Army Rangers, and US Navy Seals.

The small company was not at all overwhelmed by the lesser trained Arabian force and dispatched all but four of the hostiles with just two casualties. Interrogation revealed that the Saudis had operational nuclear weapons with a range of "no less than 1,300 kilometers." At this point, the United States and United Kingdom explained their situation to the United Nations, whom gave the objective to capture the weapons at all costs due to Saudi Arabia's increasing aggression. At this point, Saudi Arabia "bought" a number of allies, including the group known as the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, which had grown to thousands of members. These, along with two other unofficial groups and nine countries, stockpiled as many forces as possible in Saudi Arabia, though careful not to fortify at nuclear storage sites which could reveal these spots' locations.
