Welcome, BEN THE BEST456, to Halo Fanon: the wiki where you can write fan-made article(s) about the popular Halo series! Just follow these 3 basic rules and you will be guaranteed to be successful on this wiki!

Rule #1: Follow Canon! — What is Canon? By definition, it is the body of works considered genuine or official within a fictional universe. For example, Bungie and 343 Industries have officially stated that there were only twelve Halos. So, face the facts and try not to be stupid enough to create another Halo, otherwise it may be tagged and namespaced.

Rule #2: Mark Your Property! — Whenever you make an article, it is appropriate that you label your property with: BEN THE BEST456 at the top of the article. If at some point you have not finished that article, just insert Under Construction to notify other users that it is not complete.

Rule #3: Sign Your Name! — Whenever you place a comment on a talk page, please sign in your name, insert the —~~~~ at the bottom of your comment. When you press the "Save Page" button, Halo Fanon will automatically convert the —~~~~ to your username along with the time and date you posted. If you still have any problem on this method, just insert this alternative signature:
—BEN THE BEST456 ~~~~~.

For more information on creating an article, visit the Halo Fanon Guide Manual.

Visit the rule page for the full list of rules and policies on Halo Fanon (link in the slider below). Note that other users will point out when you are breaking rules, so it is strongly recommended that you read them before you begin writing.

G'day Ben. I'd just thought I'd let you know about a few things:
  1. You've forgotten to add your Writer Template to all your articles, which categorises them neatly so you can find them easier. Rule no. 2 in the helpful message above me tells you the code you need to copy and paste to the top of your pages.
  2. I've noticed you're having trouble with adding pictures to the wiki, instead linking them directly to the URL you've found them at. I would recommend uploading the pictures from your computer, then insert them by using the photo code ().
  3. The infobox code is normally put directly below the Under Construction and Writer templates, and tends to look better that way.
  4. Lastly, the Quote Template uses two fields, the second field which displays who or what said it. Just add a '|' after what you want the quote to say to access the second field.

Welcome to Halo Fanon, by the way.

Hello and Welcome

Hello, Welcome to the wiki by the way, but why do you have so many writer templates on your Alpha-Zulu Corps article?

Welcome to the site, Ben! I've seen that you have been having some issues with using some of the features of wikia. Before I try and explain how to use some of the tools and stuff, I need to know whether you use the visual editor or the source editor. The visual editor is the one where you can see the page while you edit it, and the source editor is the editor that is completely code.

Most of the admins and other members use the source editor, so they will just give you some code to use to fix a problem. I also use source, but a lot of newer members use the visual editor because they can see what the page will look like as they edit. If you use the visual editor, the code that the admins and other users will give you will be essentially useless. So before we can really help, we need to know which editor you use.

It appears as if the images you are attempting to use are not in Halo Fanon's image database thingy. Have you uploaded the images to Halo Fanon? If not, there is a Contribute button in the top right and the option, "Add a Photo". From there you can upload the image and name it something easy to remember. If you have already uploaded them, or just completed the step above, make sure the file is properly included in the Infobox. The image section should have something like this: . Replace Example.jpg with whatever the name of the file was (the name that you gave it when you uploaded, not the original file name), and the 100px with the size you want the image to be.

Hope this helps!

How to image

Sorry for not responding before now but had a lot of other stuff to do. Ok Let's get started. I'll base the guide on your James T. Avery article (by the way it would be smart to rename the article to just James T. Avery since he wasn't born a capt James T. Avery. It's just a policy we have here on site ;) ). Just click on the images to enlarge them.

  1. Steps for proper pictures 1.png The first step is to place yourself where you want the image to appear. Then click on the "photo" under the Add features and media to the right (look at the first image for help)
  2. Steps for proper pictures 2.png Now click choose file (red circle. It says something else on the picture due to me (Revan180193) speaking Danish)
    1. If the file is already uploaded then choose it from down below (blue Circle). If you can't see it then click on "next 8" until you find the file/image you're looking for. If the file is already uploaded then proceed directly to step 4.
  3. Steps for proper pictures 3.png Navigate to the folder where you have stored the desired image and select it.
  4. Steps for proper pictures 4.png Here is where it get really fun. Here you can determine the size of the image if it's big enough (they usually are), write a bit of text under caption, if it should be placed on the left or right side of the article and choose between licensing. Click upload when you're done and the image should have be placed where you wanted it to be.

Note: If the image is to be placed in an infobox then choose the size 251 and don't write any text to it and that it should be placed on the left. when uploaded and the code is in place remove the "|thumb" .

Hope this'll help you out. Regards Revan180193 (talk) 06:50, April 23, 2016 (UTC)

Hey there. I left you a message a week ago on Roderick-A207's talk page regarding some needed changes to make your work canon-friendly. Since you might not have seen it, I just wanted to give you a heads-up about it here so I don't have to start putting NCF tags on your stuff since most of it is good. Thanks.

Believe me, sir I have seen those notices and the reason why I have not fixed them is because I gave reasons for his high rank in other articles. If they are then considered NCF then yes I will change him to a lower rank, but as it stands I have reasons in other articles James T. Hey there, stepping in for Brodie 'cause he's likely asleep by now. Anyway, I've really gotta agree with him on the ranks, not just in the Alpha-Zulu Corps, but you've got Roderick as a General while he's still doing field ops, and that's just not how a military does things. Flag officers that high are promoted that high to have command over large forces and make tactical decisions. Noble Team is a weird exception, but look at the S-IIs as a better example. John-117 was a Master Chief Petty Officer through the whole Human-Covenant War, which is a very high enlisted rank, but still not an officer. Spartans had their heads filled with the type of knowledge that allowed them to be the better soldiers in the field and fighting, not making decisions in a board room where their super-strength would just be a waste. So having Spartans as officers that particularly high, especially because Avery "pulled some strings" because they were friends, doesn't really work well. If just want Spartan officers for the sake of them being officers, look at how Noble Team does it and what their ranks were, or, as per above, look more at the S-IIs. Most of them never rose above Petty Officer Second Class during the war. Regards, That Damn Sniper.

Greet'ns again. Sorry, but I had to delete one of the screenshots you uploaded, since it was actually taken originally by an old site member for his own article. I figure you probably found it in a Google image search or something. Promotional screenshots are fair game to use, it's just the ones users make for themselves we have a problem with others using without asking. You could take some screenshots for yourself, or if you have obstacles preventing you from that, there are a couple places you could ask others to take some for you, like here: User blog:Brodie-001/MCC Pics for all!

There's also one you're using from Anonymous ONI Agent's image save on your Stewart's page, which granted he doesn't appear to be using for an article at the moment, but you should at least ask the image's owner before taking for yourself.

Regards, That Damn Sniper.

If you want to make a proper sub-category, then just create a category page then put in a link to its parent page. For example, I've gone to my 'Sigmaverse Characters' category and added to it in editing mode. Now, it shows up as a sub-category on my primary Sigmaverse page. Hope this helps.

The links seem fine to me. It wasn't showing up initially because you've just renamed the article; it sometimes takes a little while before the redirect link starts displaying properly. If you don't want it to go through a redirect every time, just change the links you already have on your pages from 'Nicole' to 'Nichole'.

Certainly. There is one change you'll have to make, though; Ryan's tag doesn't conflict, but Michael and Sally's tags both do, so would you be amenable to changing them?

One other thing I forgot to mention on the talk page: I'd recommend rewording the last paragraph in the "Early Years" section so he isn't deployed to Reach when the Battle's going on, because the Gammas were still training at the time even after their augmentations, and slipspace travel probably wouldn't get him there fast enough anyway, but rather that he, Michael, and Sally were already on Reach testing the MJOLNIR for compatibility with Gammas when the Covenant arrived and the battle began.

With those changed, Ryan and his teammates are absolutely in.

Hi Ben just letting you know I edited your page Joseph Avery. In the info box and title it said Joseph Avery but in the article it said a different surname. I do not like Vandalism and was only trying to help. Thanks, Jason SPARTAN323 (talk) 16:10, July 7, 2016 (UTC)

There's no infoboxes just for Insurrectionist groups as far as I'm aware, so you'll probably want to use the Affiliation Infobox. If they're an entirely militarised group then you could just use the Unit Infobox instead. For future reference, there's a list of infoboxes to check out for article creation.

apology for the 'edit

sorry for the apparent edit on the james t. avery page, but i very am new to the website and, at the time, had absolutely no clue on how to insert my own infoboxes, so i only went into the source code and borrowed the one from that page, i meant to click off but accidentally clicked save, where it showed up that i edited it. i am very sorry for any confusion.

Greet'ns. Certainly, more are always welcome, though I do have a few concerns about things on Logan's page I'd like to address before giving the okay. Some are just minor proofreads, other are concept notes, so let me get a list going here:
  • In the first quote, prepped has two p's.
  • Since Logan ends up leading Broadsword anyway, I'm a bit confused what's meant by turning down a leadership position to give to Ash. Strictly speaking, a company leader was never established anyway, since the top honors competition never finished, and Ash never returned to the wider company (if it ever regrouped after Earth at all), so he was never a leader of anything but another team. My main concern here, though, is just that it looks like your purpose is to state he's a better leader than Ash, which undercuts Ash a bit by making him second-choice. I usually try not to make fanon characters better than canon ones when it comes to their specialty, as leadership seems to have been for Ash. Might recommend just cutting that bit.
  • Keep in mind, adding Logan also means adding any Gammas named in his article: Atlas, Miranda, Sally, Kylie, and Riker. Sally has a tag conflict with Marina-G219, so I'd ask if you're willing to change her number.
  • Gamma teams seem to have all been made up of 5 members, so I kind of wonder why Sally would've been added later, and what the Fall of Reach would've had to do with it, since it occurred in the last year of their training. I know that's 4, but to bump it up to 5, I find myself wondering--we did just have Revan add a Headhunter character to the Company, who didn't mention any teammates specifically in the page itself. If you don't want to make another Gamma just to fill space, perhaps you should ask him about a little collaboration, having his character Claire be part of Broadsword, not cooperate well, and eventually "vanish" from Logan's point of view when she's secretly taken for the Headhunters.
  • Second paragraph above "Mission to North Bend"; lead->led and corse->course. Also, you may want to rename North Bend, since it's a suburb of New Mombasa and doesn't sound very Kenyan. We do know the names of a few from ODST--Kikowani and Nyali, for example--and if you're not gonna use African names, what's the point of making the setting Africa?
  • Might want to make specific mention of Miranda being resuscitated. "Clinically dead" doesn't mean "almost dead", it means "body's life functions have stopped". So I was surprised to see her pop back up later without any mention of her being revived.

After that, it's into your universe and out of Onyx Chronicles territory, but there are a couple more points to make:

  • S-IIIs weren't outfitted with MJOLNIR, at least, not when they were deployed, but SPI, so the image you have of the Master Chief in Mark V preparing to enter the grav lift should be replaced, or an explanation should be given prior to it how and why they received MJOLNIR.
  • There's a bit of confusion just under Post-War whether you meant Mark IV or VI armor, since both are used--also, in the image, that would just be Gen-2 Operator armor, as Gen-2 Mark IV or VI are the updated versions of the old S-II armor.

Have a look at these notes, make the changes you feel are appropriate in the article, and yeah, I'd be happy to add your team to the list.

Active RPs

Hey Ben. I just thought I'd let you know that there are now a few Roleplays that have started up or in the process of starting up.

  • Started:
    • RP:Outbreak: This is a very hard-canon and realistic real-time Discord RP set on a colony in 2555 that is suffering a Flood outbreak. While Spartans are allowed, recent chats I've had with it's coordinator have shown the issues about having too many Spartans in it, so it might be better to enter a regular character instead.
    • RP:Jaeter's Protectors: This is a freeform, soft-canon RP that is set on Jaeter, which as per the RP's time setting in 2556, is an independent colony in the Joint-Occupation Zone. It's mainly set around the Jaeteran Militia, although there are a mix of criminal and UNSC personnel as well.
  • Under preparation

I figured you might be interested. I've also got the channel links for all of those Discord ones. Sev The past, the present, and the future.

All you have to do is click on the images and you should be able to go to the file page itself via the file name, or check the recent images page if you can't find something. I'm pretty sure that you've been saving thumbnail previews of images instead of enlarging them first, which is why so many of your files have really low resolution. I used to do that years ago too, so don't worry about it.
