In the second episode of 'Know Your Enemy, we'll look at Necros Warriors, the basic foot soldier you will encounter in the field of battle.

Necros Warrior

Well trained, well equipped, well versed in combat, and outnumbering you by a avergae of 4:1.

Necros Warriors are the most basic foot soldier of the Necros armies. Though they can be compared to infantry Marines, in terms of numbers, equipment and training, their overlords prefer to use them in infantry wave tactics, as inexpensive 'throw away' soldiers. However, to underestimate the Necros Warrior is a fatal mistake. Even against Marines, they are well trained, well armed, fast, agile, strong and with a gritty determination to kill them.

Myths[]

There are many popular urban myths about Necros Warriors that presist through Marine Scuttlebutt, most of which are highly untrue.

  • Necros Warriors don't feel fear
    • Not true. Necros troops feel fear, sorrow, happiness. They can fall back in retreat or are observed to have victory celebrations. However, it is their loyalty to their queen that drive them onwards, and evokation of their leader often overcomes any fear they may have.
  • Necros Warriors are unintelligent
    • Necros Warriors are anything but. Their intelligence matches the average of many AUR member species, and they have exibeted the ability to preform basic and advance military tactics, such as flanking, feints, ambushes and fire and manouvre.
  • Necros Warriors are suicidal
    • Necros Warriors are more than willing to die in the name of their Queen, but they aren't suicidal. They won't trigger landmines on purpose, they won't preform mindless wave attacks without some kind of ulterior plan and are less than willing to sacrifice themselves, without aim for the greater good.
  • Necros Warriors can't use advance Necros or any alien gear
    • Necros Warriors are the basic operators of all gear within the Necros Armada. Vehicles, warships and stations are maintained by Warriors. They operate near all weapons of the Necros armada in some form of use and operate their own specialised gear. They have also been observed using captured gear to confuse and ambush enemy forces.

Weapons[]

The equipment carried by Warriors is wide ranging and every part dangerous, so it is advised Marine Forces become familiar with the combat gear they wield.

  • The Pulse Rifle is their most basic weapon. The Pulse rifle is a small magnetic accelerator rifle, that utilises magnetic acceleration to through 4mm slugs at 3000 meters per second. These slugs have a casing of magnetically contained plasma, held at high pressure, which explodes upon impact with solid targets. The Pulse rifle has a decent enough rate of fire, and comes with a fixed reflex sight like scope with variable zoom, a folding stock, a 80 round magazine and a overheating metre.
  • Rifles
    • Pulse Battle Rifles fire larger 6mm slugs and are fitted with a larger sight to give a 4x zoom. This allows the weapon to engage more heavily armoured targets, at longer ranges. The weapon is issued to marksmen to allow them to support their unit.
    • Pulse Carbines are shorter Pulse Rifles often given to motorized troops.
  • Pistols
    • Pulse Pistols fire smaller 3mm slugs and are used almost expressly by weapon crews who need a weapon to protect them
    • Pulse Machine Pistols are weapons with rapid fire abilities and 3mm slugs.
  • Machine Guns
    • Light Rotary Pulse Guns are used as LMG style weapons. They are lengthened Pulse Rifles with 3 rotary barrel weapons and a large drum
    • Heavy Rotary Pulse Guns fill the heavy machine gun position and use larger 7mm slugs.
  • Missile Launchers
    • Vindicator Missiles are directed anti-tank missiles that have a directed liquid plasma charge and track through optical and thermal
    • Lasher Missiles a high speed RADAR guided anti-aircraft missile using a three mini missiles with small pulse charges as their warhead
    • Prowler Missiles are stationary Missile turrets firing a scaled up Vindicator Missile.
  • Special Weapons
    • Shock Guns use lasers to form an electrically conductive Laser-Induced Plasma Channel. A fraction of a second later, a powerful electric current is sent down this plasma channel and delivered to the target, knocking them out cold.
    • Incinerator Rifles use highly compressed plasma in a liquid form which is shot out at a highly pressurized gaseous form then rapidly heated by a super compressing magnetic array
    • Despoiler Rifles fire 'VITRIOL' liquid in a spray of up to twenty metres, in either a fine or thick spout, The chemical often referred to as an acid through misconception, is a nano-machine colony held in a green liquid suspension. The colony is designed to engage and break down inorganic compounds, effectively melting them. This is used to destroy and damage enemy vehicles, armour, equipment and weapons, disabling them and removing their ability to fight.
    • Thumper Grenade Launchers are a three shot rotary grenade launcher that can feed a variety of exotic and conventional launched grenades.
    • Web Cannons fire a organic web like construct, similar to spider webs, using a gossamer compound woven in milliseconds by a number of apertures inside the gun. These are coated in a transdermal venom that can cause drowsiness through skin contact. As victims struggle more, the web gets tighter and tighter, constraining them more. At closer ranges, the Web Cannon can be used to cocoon prey.
  • Grenades
    • Pulse Grenades consist of a core of highly compressed plasma, a super heating conductive layer and a forged casing. These not only produce a short range, high power plasma blast, but produce a longer range disruptive sharpnel effect.
    • Incinerator Greandes use the Necros inflamatory plasma technology to produce a short range napalm/thermite effect greande.
    • Wasp Grenades has a outer casing of hardened gel material that forms a shrapnel blast than incapacitates through blunt force trauma and then dissipate.

Variations[]

The Warrior also appears in a number of specialised forms, for distinct operations.

Necros sergeant
Necros Sniper
Necros Sapper

The Sergeant features six additional antennae to improve communication ability. Sergeants are veteran Warriors who have been retrofitted for command and control rolls of small units.

Snipers are Necros Warriors with modified sight systems to fit three powerful sights and a periscope with the same sights. It is usually armed with Coil Snipers, which fire 7mm depleted uranium slugs at 3000 meters per second, or a Violator Gun, which fires a transdermal venom in a disintegrating spitzer style warhead that silently knocks targets out cold for a long period of time for stealth insertion or capture.

Sappers are Necros Warriors fitted with four smaller, well defended optical sensors and a electro-optical that can detect explosives. It features four liquid plasma containers on its back that can fit various concentrations of the material into Type-X demolition charges. These can also be injected directly into the body to turn the Sapper into a last ditch suicide bomber.

Armour[]

Necros Warriors use 'OBSIDIAN L' plating to protect them. OBSIDIAN L is a alloy of various cermet layers and cobalt alloys, providing light weight protection, capable of stopping bullets for a number of impact. The rounded armour is resistant to some forms of sensors and gives it a chance of deflecting some kind of munitions. It's highly flexible armour is focused around its chest and head and is made of crab like interlocking plates, giving it high agility. It's fingers and toes are iridium infused, giving it a powerful melee attack and the ability to climb sheer surfaces with ease.

Sensor and Communication Systems[]

The Necros' primary sensors are the three eye modules. These are made up of three optical sensors with 360 observation view on rails, allowing them to move from left to right, allowing it to, effectively, observe three different directions at once. It features two electro-optical sensors and a infra-red sight. It also features a pair of short ranged motion detector using infra-red detection and ultrasonic detection. It features short range radio communication antennae for inter-unit communication.

Locomotion Systems[]

The locomotion system for the Necros Warrior is provided by muscles bonded by semi-organic glues to the titanium alloy skeleton. This muscle is either vat grown or harvested and is genetically and medicinally modified to increase strength and stamina. These muscles are covered in a thin opaque layer that filters out certain light rays to protect it.

Power Systems[]

The two power systems feed the organic and the mechanical sections in turn. The Organic section is powered by a tank of highly compressed Octaoxygen that is repeatedly broken up and reformed to fuel the muscles. The muscles are also fed with Necros food fed through intravenous injections. These are transferred through a nanomachine generated blood vessel system and controlled with specialised nanomachines.

The Mechanical section is powered by a small fusion power plant with enough fuel to power the soldier for fifteen years before needing a new injection. These reactors are well armoured, relatively safe and clean, giving the soldier long lasting abilities.

Central Computer[]

The Central Computer is comprised of a ionic matrix, similar to human A.I.s. It carries brain waves and throughts transferred from organic brains into its information centre. It is capable of creative thinking, learning and growth and has a estimated life span of 140 years, like current generation UNSC A.I.. Unlike current generation A.I.s, loyalty is not programmed in, but is controlled by one of the many attached plasma-state computers. This is directly connected to a artificial nervous system which in turn is also connected to the spinal array, which is like a secondary computer and controls the production, distribution and commands of the on-board nanites.
