"Assist, Protect, and Defend"

--motto

The UNSC Military Police Corps are the uniformed law enforcement branch of the UNSC Army. Investigations are conducted by Military Police Investigators or the United Nations Space Command Army Criminal Investigation Command (UNSCACIDC), both of which report to the Provost Marshal General, Thomas Mathers.

UNSC Army Military Police units have combat zone responsibilities in addition to their law enforcement duties. These responsibilities include mounted and dismounted patrols, response force operations, area damage control, route reconnaissance, cordon and search operations, critical site security, and convoy and personnel escorts.  Operationally, these duties fall under the "security and mobility support" discipline of the UNSC Army. They have been operational since the end of the Interplanetary War.

History[]

Overview[]

The UNSC Military Police Corps are one of the oldest branches of the UNSC Army, being formed only a few months after the end of the Interplanetary War. Their initial purpose was to ensure the preservation of order on the Jovian Moons and humanity's many other colonies at the time. Though they were active for over three-hundred years, they had never participated in a war or any armed conflicts until the Human Civil War and suffered heavy losses due to their patrol ships being easily destroyed by the Insurrectionist forces when encountered.

Once the Human-Covenant War began in 2531 many of the Military Police Corps' patrol ships and destroyers were sent off to protect human colonies from the Covenant fleets. By the end of the war most of their ships were destroyed and many MP officers had been lost in this twenty-one year long war. As of today the UNSC Military Police Corps is still very much active, albeit more being focused towards patrol and escort missions.

Formation[]

Once the Interplanetary War had ended the UNSC had lost many of it's ships and men. Along with this there were fears of armed insurrections on the colonies, most notably, the Jovian Moons. After months constant arguing within the UNSC of whether or not to decide to acquire the United States Army's military police branch, President John Conway and ONI Commander-in-Chief Daniel Price were able to reach a deal to acquire the branch after the United States acquired the UNSC Stratosphere from ONI along with forty million USD. Provost Marshal General Henry Ackerson kept his position after the acquirement.

Following the acquirement of the MP over four thousand officers were sent to humanity's colonies to ensure order.

McCormack Incident[]

"Fire, bullets, screaming children. It had it all the traits of a terrorist attack."

--War journalist Benjamin Sommers about the McCormack Incident

In 2245, a whole seventy-five years after it's formation, the UNSC McCormack landed at Cornwall Shipyards on Mars. The McCormack was a notable prison ship, holding some of humanity's most vile criminals such as Jorge Chamberlain. Following a security breach the inmates were able to escape their holding cells and executed the guards on board. After this they proceeded to the ship's armory which contained a M18 Scorpion MBT and several aerial assault vehicles. For twenty whole hours the inmates terrorized the city of Warner with said vehicles with heavy resistance from the military police forces. Unfortunately they were unable to hold them back from destroying large portions of the city.

Records state that if it weren't for the UNSC Draconis the city would have been reduced to nothing but rubble by the inmates. The following day Provost Marshal General Kyle Abrams released a statement on the matter. He stated that while the McCormack's security systems were the best of any prison ship, it shouldn't have held heavy armaments on boards in case of a security breach. This gained negative reception from both the public and the only surviving crewmember of the McCormack, Captain John Washington.

Attack on Conway Station[]

During the beginning of the insurrection, no place was as targeted by John Stacy as Conway Station. The

station had been only recently retrofitted with the latest technology and the inner confines of the station had grown cold and inaccessible many years ago. This included the station's main source of power and it's main defense systems. If they hadn't been made inaccessible the station wouldn't have been destroyed and the entire military police presence on board would have been alive. Stacy's fleet arrived early in the morning to attack the station. As soon as the patrol ships had been decimated the officers attempted to reach the security system's activation room, but they were unreachable. Everything that made the station safe was now unusable.

Within hours the station was reduced to rubble and it's fate was only discovered when the UNSC Observatory found it's signature rectangular docking spires floating close to Earth. This was the only major conflict during the Human Civil War that the military police were involved in, though many of their ships were destroyed after they were donated to the UNSC Navy or while patrolling.

Human-Covenant War[]

Contrary to popular belief, the UNSC Military Police Corps did not participate in combat during the Human-Covenant War. The officers and ships operated as scouts for the UNSC and escorts on planetary missions. Provost Marshal General Thomas Mathers served on one of the most notable patrol ships, the Ion, during the attack on Gladstone Station.

Present[]

The UNSC Military Police Corps have restored their status as a very powerful authority figure. After the Human-Covenant War the military police were given equipment much more suited for fighting an alien army, though they rarely ever use it. Their new responsibilities mostly include patrolling areas around military bases and space stations and escorting high-value individuals. The public still rarely fears them despite their ability to now crush insurrections.
