The UEG Department of Law Enforcement, commonly referred to as the UEG Police Department, is the primary law enforcement organisation of the Unified Earth Government. The DLE operates on every colony within UEG-controlled space, and is responsible for enforcing law, maintaining social order, and ensuring public safety, among other charges. It is primarily organised into the Earth-based United Nations Constabulary, which incorporates national law enforcement bodies, and Colonial Police Departments, which are further organised into State/Provincial Departments, County Departments, City/Town Departments, and Police Precincts. Uniformed officers of the Department of Law Enforcement are federal government officials, and follow a table of ranks based upon those of UNSC Defence Force branches of armed service.

The DLE is primarily separated into two divisions: the BCI, which oversees criminal and internal investigations as well as internal intelligence, and the Office of Patrols and Special Tactics (OPST/OPAST), which oversees uniformed patrol and emergency response.

Departmental Tactical Assault and Response teams operate under the OPAST, and are dispatched in most high-risk situational responses, though operations of greater risk or precedence involve the Hostage Rescue Team and military Gendarmerie.

In wartime, operational control of the DLE is effectively transferred to the UNSC Defense Force; accordingly, during the Human-Covenant War, law enforcement officers frequently acted under military commands alongside service personnel, and were appropriately held and equipped to military standards.

Uniforms[]

OPAST personnel are expected to wear appropriate uniforms and insignia marking them as law enforcement officers while on duty, and are issued DLE Field/Working Uniforms, variants of military-grade infantry utilities printed with solid grey tones or urban camouflage patterns. Approved on-duty headwear includes appropriately marked field caps, as well as traditional peaked patrolmen's caps.
