Dr. Thomas "Tom" Martel (born 8 September 2474) is the son of Abigail and Raymond Martel, as well as younger brother to Felix Martel. He has been married to Kaitlin Bessler since 2506. He is the father to James Martel I. He grew up with his older brother, in the URF. After his being mistaken as a UNSC informant, Thomas fled to Taradia, to avoid further repercussions from the URF. He would eventually get his education at Uppland University, on Nyahem, including receiving a master's degree in bioengineering, and later, a medical doctorate.
He eventually started working for the UNSC Advanced Research Projects Agency in developing biological weapons for use against the Covenant. The project was shut down after the great schism, in 2552. In 2553, he returned to Uppland University for a teaching position. He would continue research into the physiology of the Covenant member species, this time for a different cause, and would eventually earn the Nobel Prize in 2562.
Childhood
Thomas was born in the insurrectionist enclave, known as "the Sanctuary" on the outskirts of Asphodel City, on Eridanus II.
