He has been married to Silja Martel (neé Toivonen) since 2501. He is the father to Evelyn, Genevieve, and Cheryl Martel. He grew up with his older brother, in the URF. After his brother's defection, Thomas fled to Taradia. He would eventually get his education at Uppland University, on Nyahem, getting a master's degree in bioengineering, and later, a medical doctorate.
