I don't think the UNSC would be so hasty to pardon him after he deserted the military. I like it otherwise! Doesn't seem like much of a super cool bad ass, which is good.
How would this work, he runs away but just refuses to return home and he travels to different colonies by being a stowaway and I though they would pardon a guy during the battle because they needed everyone they could get. And what other planet than reach would you suggest?

It is still a bit odd that he goes undetected on the most urbanized and watched world in the UNSC. Maybe he lived on a more rural colony, that was mostly founded by Irish settlers? It could keep the Irish thing and make it a bit more plausible. And they might pardon him when he helps him on the battle of Mars, but during earth I don't think they would have enough time to get together, decide it is worth pardoning him and then finding a unit to put him in.
What do you think now? And where could I take this next because I dont like Halo 4's story line or any of the 343 stuff.

You can't just convince an officer, this sort of thing requires courts, judges, tribunals, and in most militaries it is punishable with years in jail and a dishonorable discharge. That's just peace time. During war time, it can get you executed or a life in prison.
And it still has the previous problem of him sneaking across earth, like I said, it would be a bit more plausible to put him in a misc colony world or some such. Much less cameras, many more places to hide. Remember, the UNSC has tons of colonies and planets and we only hear of a few of them, you can have some fun and make your own.
And don't worry about Halo 4, most of us here seem to dislike it. You can have him fighting insurgents that rise up after the war, Covenant remnants, or anything else from your imagination. Or you could just move his timeline back a bit.
