Taal 'Andarai is a Field Master of the Swords of Sanghelios and a Sangheili Blademaster. During the Human-Covenant War, he was a Light of Sanghelios of the Covenant Honor Guard until he defected to the Covenant separatists during the Great Schism.
History
Early life and military career
Taal 'Andar was born to the 'Andar lineage in the year 2499 on Sanghelios. As male Sangheili, he and his older brother Venex were conscripted into the Covenant military at a young age. Unlike most elite warriors who received the 'ee' suffix to their family names, Taal was given 'ai' suffix for his immense skill with the blade. Due to Taal's fighting prowess, the High Council eventually recruited him into the Covenant Honor Guard so that his skills could be used to ensure the safety of the councils' members; Venex, on the other hand, joined the Covenant Special Operations after a few years of military service. Although the 'Andar brothers were close as children at their keep, their individual careers ultimately led them down different paths and the two would seldom see each other while serving the Hierarchs. By the year 2552, Taal 'Andarai was recognized as being among the strongest of the elites and became a Light of Sanghelios.
Great Schism
Taal 'Andarai, as a Light of Sanghelios |
Taal 'Andarai was not in the presence of the Hierarchs during the Changing of the Guard, and so he retained his Light of Sanghelios armor when the Great Schism began. On High Charity, 'Andarai joined his fellow elites in combat against the brutes and later the Flood. By the time the Parasite's infection spread throughout the majority of the mobile city, 'Andarai had escaped to the surface of Installation 05 to join Rtas 'Vadum in commandeering brute-controlled ships. When the elites successfully took control of the CCS-class battlecruiser Pious Inquisitor, 'Andarai remained on board with Rtanis 'Daelahm and a few other elites, while 'Vadum led the rest of the elites to overtake more vessels.
The Pious Inquisitor was now part of the newly-formed Fleet of Retribution, which pursued the flood-infested Indulgence of Conviction to Earth. 'Andarai remained aboard the CCS-class battlecruiser during the final hours of the skirmish and was not deployed to the surface.
Battle of Installation 00
In an Ultra-class combat harness, Taal 'Andarai charges against the brutes. |
Donning an Ultra-class combat harness, Taal 'Andarai would be deployed on the surface of Battle of Installation 00 alongside other elites under the Arbiter Thel 'Vadam's command in order to disable the second barrier tower of the Citadel. After the elites succeeded, 'Andarai was recalled to the Pious Inquisitor while the remaining Sangheili moved on to shut down the third barrier tower. Following the end of the Human-Covenant War that ended in victory for the humans and the elites, 'Andarai joined the Swords of Sanghelios.

Personality and traits
Like many other Sangheili, Taal 'Andarai is an honorable warrior. During and after the Great Schism, he was among the first of his kind to respect most of humanity after observing what they had accomplished during the Battle of Installation 00. He does not, however, trust the Office of Naval Intelligence in any capacity, having heard of the unsavory lengths the human organization will go to in achieving their goals. According to Fleetmaster Rtanis 'Daelahm, Taal is very similar to his deceased brother, Venex in regards to how he carries himself.
A blademaster, a former Light of Sanghelios, and standing at a towering 262 centimeters (8 feet 6 inches) – a height that causes him to dwarf many of his fellow Sangheili – 'Andarai is no doubt an incredibly strong warrior, especially up close. Not only is he peerless with a blade, he also uses his sheer size to his advantage in melee combat, overpowering any foe foolish enough to challenge him directly.
