We are committed to achieving our freedom, no matter the cost! |
The Secessionist League was a twenty-second century political union of secessionist movements in the Sol system; members of the league desired independence from the United Nations, and attempted to accomplish it through military means in 2160. While a system-wide general uprising was planned, losses in the initial rebellion caused the League to focus its resources at Jupiter, at the cost of all other operations. All efforts came to naught, however, as United Nations forces decisively defeated the League within a few months, costing the secessionist movement heavily in spacecraft, equipment, and personnel. The remnants of the Secessionist League were eventually integrated into the Frieden movement.
History[]
The league formed in 2150, bringing together secessionist groups from many regions of the Sol system, primarily those of Mars, the asteroid belt, and Jupiter.
Cascade plan[]
Beginning in 2160, the Jovian Secessionists were to attack UN forces stationed around Jupiter, preferably capturing ships in the process. After whatever response force the UN sent had been dealt with, the Saturnian and Uranian secessionists were to rise up, followed quickly by the Martian and Belt secessionists; with so many rebellions, the United Nations Space Authority would be unable to cope, and the UN would be forced to recognize the league's members as sovereign bodies in the system.
Jovian Insurrection[]
- Main article: Jovian Moons Campaign
While the initial attack on UNSA forces was a stunning success, and the response force fought to a stalemate, the Jovian Secessionists were crushed by the subsequent UN Naval response. With a large detachment of UNSA ships now assigned to each celestial body, and a sizable garrison of peacekeepers attached to each moon of Jupiter, the cascade plan was postponed indefinitely.
Dissolution and assimilation[]
The Secessionist League remained committed to building a force capable of winning them their independence, and continued to do so from 2160 to 2164. In 2165, UNSA forces began to engage League ships and yards in the Belt, putting the entire group at risk. By 2167, the league had faded away and its members and military assets been absorbed into the real organizers of the league - the Frieden movement.
Timeline[]

The League Space Corps comprised a sizable number of modified freighters and League-built destroyers.
Ship Name | Ship Type | Armament | Complement | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Ascension | Freighter, medium | 3 × missiles 1 × 20mm point defense gun |
Previously a medium-range cargo hauler for Belt Transport, Ascension was fitted with a trio of missile launchers and a 20 mm rotary cannon following its transfer to a League-sympathetic space dock. Following its conversion in 2157, the medium freighter was clandestinely hidden in a non-operating space dock in Jovian space; after almost three years of inactivity, Ascension returned to active service on February 11, 2160. Less than a month later, Ascension, accompanied by Red Tempest, unsuccessfully attacked the UNSA Alexandria near Io, resulting in the loss of both League vessels. | |
Azure Guardian | League destroyer | 4 × missiles 2 × point defense guns |

The 500-meter-long Big Aeolus was a well-known bulk carrier of the Mars-Jupiter-Neptune run; its rapid conversion in 2160 - following its sudden transfer to the League in 2160 - was carried out in extreme secrecy. The large freighter was equipped with four missile tubes and two sets of two point defense guns; the deployment of Big Aeolus against UN forces near Europa surprised many, as did its subsequent destruction. |
