Introduction

Ancient History

Thousands of years ago, the Forerunner built Sentinels in an attempt to quell the Flood plague. Unfortunately for the Forerunners, the Sentinels, under the command of the rogue Monitor 343 Guilty Spark, turned rampant and attacked their creators. The Forerunners were driven to extinction by their own creations.

The Flood meanwhile, came into contact with the Hydra, and after years of the swarms fighting on and around Ceres, what was left of the Bujkowe tribes succeeded in activating the Ceres installation, which destroyed both the Hydra and Flood. The Bujkowe managed to escape in a Forerunner ship though.

After the activation of the Ceres Installation, the Sentinels had no sentient life to destroy. So, all Forerunner constructs returned to the Ark, abandoning all other installations, and set themselves into a standby status, ready to awaken when life returned. Inferior life that had to kill to ensure they did not make anymore stupid mistakes like the Forerunners had......

The Human-Covenant War

Thousands of years later, the Covenant found the faults of the Forerunners deeply disturbing, and instead praised the Precursors. When the Covenant first encountered humans, they offered to let them join the Covenant. The humans stubbornly refused, and the Covenant completely obliterated the planet. Over the next two years, the humans fought back but were gradually absorbed into the Covenant. They were placed at a rank above a Jackal yet lower than a Brute and Elite. But some resisted.....

Led by Jacob Keyes, some of the humans found the Covenant's rulers as tyrants, and fled to the Outer Rim of the galaxy, as well as systems that are difficult for the Covenant to navigate. They wished to either free all humans from the Covenant's grasp, or come to a compromise between them. The Covenant would have none of it. Now the Rebels fight against the Covenant relentlessly, slowly losing their planets. Their last stronghold planet is Reach, having lost Earth several decades before the forming of the Rebels, but Reach will soon fall as well. But, the Brutes have a small amount of sympathy for the Rebels, and may soon join them. But other forces exist in the universe, and they shall soon appear as well....

Though most of the Flood forces were destroyed in the Ceres system, one small hive survived onboard a small ship. They crash-landed in a system without a star, and without the light they gradually turned into the Utter Darkness hive. Their Gravemind form, Darkmind, now seeks to return and take the galaxy for his own....

In the Arctic IV system, an alliance of both the natives of the planet and renegades from the Covenant has conquered their entire system. Soon, they will once again show themselves.....

After thousands of years of deciphering the Forerunner technology and using it to create their own technology, weapons, vehicles and the like, the Bujkowe are venturing forth from their own system. The creatures are brave, ferocious and intelligent, but how will they fare against warriors that have been fighting for decades.....

But another group of Covenant exists, one with a much more powerful leader. When a small fleet discovered the Satellite, an ancient Precursor station, they decided to investigate it. There, they found Nogard, and after they freed him, they worshiped him as a god. He grows tired of lurking in the shoadows though, and will soon reappear to wreak havoc, his loyal servants at his side.....

But the very machines that gave many these factions their technology are stirring once again. After over a 100,000 years in a low-power state on the Ark, the Sentinels and their Monitors are awakening. But even a million years would not have returned their sanity, and the machines will try to obliterate all life once again.....

Many other threats lurk in the galaxy though. The Amalgam, the Ithlid, the Fraction, and possibly numerous other threats are ready. This war will soon engulf the galaxy, one that could destroy all life......

The time is now. The place is everywhere. The contest is you.

Join the Fight. Make the Choice. Be the Hero. Be the Villain. Save the Galaxy. Destroy the Galaxy.

The War for the Galaxy has begun.......

The large white Brute looked around the room, Prophets and Elites surrounded him. The Brute's withered body tired from this life with the Covenant, and it's mind followed suit. The Prophets of Truth, Mercy and Regret, sat in their hoverchairs in the centre of the room, "Brothers! We are yet again Gloriously Victorius! The Human Rebellion has been crushed off the planet Wintel, leaving only Reach before us! Yet unfortunately we cannot yet commence celebrations, for we may yet enter more dire times, as two empires, the ones who call themselves the Fraction, as well as those barbarian Ithilids, are enroaching upon our territory, we need but a little more ships to successfully combat all of these foes, aid us to victory Brothers!"

The room broke into cheer, Lokstok didn't join in. There was to much pointless war here, it was to much for his old bones, the brute let out a sigh, and clapped a little to look unsucpicious.

Jacob Keyes walked through the corridor of one of the several human underground bases on Reach, stopping upon reaching a large round room, full of people frantically typing on keyboards, screens covered the walls. A soldier turned to face the commander, his face was covered in soot and dirt, though most seemed to flow off as he managed a quick salute, "Sir, we have reason to believe the Covenant will be continueing their war efforts after their victory on Wintel, what are your orders?"

Keyes stared down at the soldier for a few minutes, before turning to the rest of the room, "Prepare all anti-air weaponry, we'll force them into a land based battle, someone get me Spartans, I dont care if they charge to work or not, we need as many as possible!"

John stared at the large crowd of Covenant before him, as a Prophet started reading out prayers before going on to say, "Spartan 117, you have many Greivous crimes against the covenant, even against your own race, cold-blooded murder, assasination, Genocide! For your horrendous crimes against nature itself, you will pay the ultimate price!"

The Spartan stood above the crowd in shackles upon a hovering pedestal, without his armour. The crowd booed and hissed him, as a slight smile slipped across his face.

An Honour Guard Elite approached with his energy sword drawn to commence the execution, when John enacted his plan. He had been thinking of this for a while, though the majority depended upon his luck. His elbow colldided with the gut of the Elite next to him, sending him off the floating platform, as the Elite with his sword charged, only to be helplessly flipped over the Spartan, as he ducked, and headbutted him over. John picked up the sword in his foot, swinging it into the mechanical device keeping his cuffs active. The cuffs broke, and the Spartan lunged for the Prophet, putting the sword to it's neck. The Spartan lowered the platform as the Prophet begged the soldiers around them to lower their weapons, and so John slinked into the darkness and dissapeared as the crowd screamed phrases of hatred. 117649 Abberant Render silently watched the Prophets' lecture, 343 Guilty Spark, his superior among the Sentinels, floating beside him. "Hmph... how pathetic," Render whispered.

"What did you expect originally from them? They are, afterall, only living"

"True... but they could at least not reduce their own numbers like that. Unity breeds power, afterall" for now, they were watching as Spartan-117 enact his escape. "Humans will be humans"

"So true you are, Guilty Spark. So true you are"

Venix stood resolute on the central command center of the Aria, watching as the small silhouette of the planet grew bigger in the external view screens. The Covenant... an evil that knew no bounds. The destructors of many Ithlid planets, and the champions of the wickedest gods. "Open a channel to their network" Venix's tentacles squirmed on his mouth.

"What is your purpose here, Ithlid?" the voice was old and frail, most likely one of the San'Shyuum. "We come with your demise, old fool. You excluded us from the rest. Destroyed our culture, our worlds... our lives. Now it is your time to experience loss; your turn to lose countless lives!" his voice quivered with anger... the Covenant were the murderers of countless members of his kind.

"Unleash the bombers and fighters. We will reduce that planet, along with their so-called prophets to rubble"

The group of Covenant ships drifted silently through space, the screams and weaponfire long since lost to time. All that remained now were Drones and Parasites, slaves to the will of the Brain that lay within the ship in the center of their formation. The insectoid creatures skittered through the ship's workings, and the walking abominations known as Drones prowled through the halls, dragging arms across the blood-stained metallic-purple metal.

The Brain was the center of it all; the puppeteer of thousands upon thousands of mindless creatures. For such a deformed creature, it retained a remarkable intelligence... near close to the Graveminds of the ancient Flood. However, so delicate were they as well. Cloaked forever in darkness, lest they be burned alive; they were a direct link to the great one, the father of them all, in essence all of their minds combined. The Gravemind of the Amalgam, though perhaps more dangerous.

They continued to drift endlessly, eventually reaching the battered surface of the planet of Reach... a requiem for the lost would soon be needed.

The Prophet of Truth started stating an urgent situation to the holy city of High Charity, "Creatures if the Covenant, i recently noticed that our armory in the district thirteen, has been sabotaged, no Human Rebles detected in this atrocity, this means we have a Heritic in our ranks! Find the Perpetrator, and justice will be served to him!"

The Fleet around High Charity was at its proudest, with the flagship, the Basilisk was at the center of the fleet, broadcasting a new order, "Make ready for war, my brothers, for if the fleet that was sent to reach fails, then we will attack the planet ourselves! By decree of the Prophets" stated the Imperial Admiral.

Legitum was having an argument with Truth, "I don't know who did!" he said. Truth, now furious, "It is your fault that this, "Unknown Brute" tried to make Contact with the Rebels, so find him and execute him immediatly, or all of your kind will be dubbed Heritics!" Legitum swollowed his desire to kill the Prophet, and set of to Lokstok's quarters, to inform him of the situation.

Bomba surveyed the area. The Prophets were angry, with good reason. A Brute traitor is within the ranks, and the Demon had escaped execution. But, now, that was Bomba's problem. Havana, Cuba was a deserted place, as it had been for many years. The Elites, with all their tactical mastery, thought he would go to Earth due to it being the home of his species. Havana was the most deserted place on Earth, besides Antartica, but, without his suit, even he wouldn't go there. Bomba looked for thermal activity in the area. He found none.

Lakargus stood before Jacob Keyes on the Lost Cause.

"So, Brute, you're ready to open up trade?" Keyes asked.

"Unfournately, no. The rest of the Covenant still finds your presence as a blemish on their honor. We do however, have smugglers," Lakargus replied.

"Hmm... I see. I shall consider your offer, Brute. But, one question, what would your Prophets do if they discovered you here?" Keyes inquired.

"Why, they would have me hung by my entrails and my corpse paraded through the city!" the Brute replied.

The two Hunters sat, meditating. Garru and Troza were odd Hunters. They disliked most other Hunters for their inability to be social, and often tried to communicate with other species.

The person they guarded, Dmo 'Bewosee, was a rather large Elite. He stood proud and strong on his crusier, the Draconian Spear. 'Bewosee prayed before a Precursor model he had made in his spare time. He noticed the meditating Hunters, and then woke one up.

Garru stirred and said, "What, sir?"

"Bomba returns today, hopefully with some good news," the Elite said.

"Why would I need to know this, sir?" the Hunter inquired.

"Because, some of the crew has accused me of heresy, and if the Prophets send someone after me, I'll need someone to pick him-" 'Bewosee was cut off.

A group of Covenant soldiers had a rifle to his head. The Covenant soldiers fired, and blew his head off.

"Tarmfurm, We are ready to depart, with or without you," A Brute said,

"I'll be there, start the cruiser,"

Tarmfurm finished his mug and headed for his mighty gigantic cruiser, The Fist of Justice, a mighty "space-shark" that is commanded and lead by Tarmfurm.

"Are the passengers aboard?"

"Just the infantry, we are finishing loading the Drinols,"

"Drinols eh? Hmmm... They are brutal allies, loose cannons, keep an eye on them, did you bring that one drinol?"

"The one that killed his squad? And was given unnecessary forgiveness? Yes,"

"Watch that one,"

HIGH CHARITY, in orbit of Earth

Miranda Keyes kneeled before the Prophet of Truth in the Council Chamber of the Hierarchs.
"So, you wish to try and return your father to the True Path?", asked Truth, "Is this correct?"
"Yes, oh great Prophet of Truth. And if he refuses, I shall silence his heresy"
"Very well then. You may go with my blessing. But take the Arbiter with you. He will be most helpful"
"As you wish, mighty Truth"
Miranda stood and turned, then walked out the turn. As soon as she was out, she cursed to herself. "I hate that dadgum Prophet", she said.
Miranda hated the Arbiter. He was haughty, blood-thirsty and vulgar. In short, he just about the worst Elite in history. The Prophets themselves even hated him, and only kept him because he was such a valuable fighter.
Miranda entered the room, and found him dueling with two other Elites. She watched for the short time the fight lasted, knowing full well that the Arbiter was much better than the other two. Soon, the Arbiter twirled around and stabbed one Elite through the gut with his energy sword and kicked the other in the back of the skull, killing both instantly.
Miranda watched him, disgustedly, as he licked the blood from his hands. Then he noticed her, straightened, and walked over to her.
"What do you want, human?", he asked rudely, "Is it another message from the Prophets?" "No", she replied, "The Prophets have given me permission to hunt down my father, the leader of the Rebels, and bring him back. But they told me that I must bring you along." The Arbiter looked disgusted for a moment. "There will be much killing." At this, his mood brightened at this point, but he regained a careless look.
"Well then, I suppose I'll come", the Arbiter said, "At least there will be plenty of kills. Perhaps I can end the Rebellion single handedly! But, I must go and gather my Task Force. Meet me at my ship, the Bloody Sword"
"Of course", said Miranda, and then she took off running to the ship. She waited for a half an hour, then the Arbiter in his large, Precursor-built battlemech. Behind him were nine Humans, each in a lesser, though similar, battlemech. They were all members of the Arbiter's Task Force, and they were almost as deadly. They were Caleb Harrison, Ethan Walters, Jessica Summers, Carlie Walters, Nathan Black, Challen Della, Ruth Davis, Rachel Davis, and John Davis. Each one was ready for battle, as anyone could see in their eyes. But Miranda wanted this to be personal, and carrying around nearly a dozen others wasn't what she had wanted.
"What are they here for?", she asked the Arbiter, "What do they have to do with this? By task force I thought you had meant two Elites or something, not nine battlemech pilots!"
"You aren't the only one with a wish to bring back your family", said Caleb, "Each of us has another that has joined the Rebels, and we are ashamed of them. We will bring them back no matter what it takes."
"Besides", said the Arbiter, "I can't be the only one that does some good killing"
Miranda didn't say anything, but she was disgusted with the Arbiter. Now that she understood what their cause was, she wouldn't mind these kids, but the Arbiter could only think of fighting.
She motioned them onto the ship, trying to ignore her hate for the Arbiter.

REACH, on the surface, HIGHCOM

The conference room was crowded with elite Human soldiers. High Commander Jacob Keyes had called together all elite forces to make a special announcement, but none were sure what they were there for.
Filling the room was Delta Team, consisting of Lead, Burns, Ratchet and Sarge. There was Team Alpha, consisting of Roy Koel, Edwin Davis, Lisa Davis, Jim Wilson, Kymberli Wilson, Jerry Peters, Marshall Black, Amy Black, James Davis, Katelynn Davis, Nicholas Summers, Clayton Peters, Devyn Peters, Jake Donaghy, and Samuel Tyler. There was even skilled space squadrons, including Dragon Squadron, which consisted of Joe Harrison, Michelle Walters, Randall Cragin, Donald Summers, David Davis, Sherri Black, June Della, Andrew Peters, Luke Donaghy, Justin Cragin, Brittani Della, Brittany Black, Erika Black and Cindle Della.
All of the various squadrons, teams and squads were talking, debating and comparing things until a silence came from one end as Jacob Keyes entered. Everyone sat down, or stood against the wall if they couldn't find a chair, and fell silent, listening.
"Gentlemen, and ladies", he said, "The Covenant know that we're on Reach. And they're going to come to get us. So I need all of you to do whatever you can to prepare this planet for a major attack. We will either be here and win, or die trying. Now get to work."
Everyone stood, saluted, and then with a flurry of activity they ran out.

CERES ASTEROID FIELD, in the center, in an abandoned Precursor ship

Nearly five hundred Elites, Grunts and Hunters bowed in the main hold of an abandoned Precursor ship in what remained of the Ceres system. Thousands of years before it had been the site of a great battle between the Flood and Hydra, until a Bujkowe activated the installation inside the planet. The Flood and Hydra were killed, the Bujkowe escaped on a Forerunner ship, and the Ceres system became an asteroid field.
But who the Covenant worshiped was what was important. They were renegades of the Covenant; heretics. They had found the being in an ancient station called the Satellite, and now worshiped him as a god.
The being's name was Nogard. He was an ancient Precursor experiment, but he was a failure to them. They had placed him in stasis, and until the Covenant found him, he had remained in it. But once they had released him, they did whatever he told them. He had taken them to the Ceres system, and he had slowly gained more followers. The five hundred were not alone; they had at least three thousand others with them.
And in this lifeless system, Nogard had built an army. Not only was he using the Covenant, but using leftover Forerunner and Precursor technology, such as his own ship, he was just about ready to clone himself. And once that happened, he would take over the galaxy. The galaxy itself, he believed, had wronged him, and so he would in turn control it.

Control Room, The Ark

Aberrant Render continued to watch the screens on the wall before him. Guilty Spark had left only an hour ago, to his own business; he actually was very solitary. Silent dramas, unheard tragedies, and many other acts were being observed by the Monitor, most important of them the Ithlid victory on the Covenant's minor world.

However, there were two others that intrigued him. Miranda Keyes' search for her father, and the Amalgam infestation quickly spreading on the Rebels' fortress world of Reach. Abstruse Divergence was directly behind him, as he'd always been. "Take care of things for me; I have errands to attend to" Render said, and the other AI replied. "Will do"

The golden rings of light circled Render, and in a bright flash, he was onboard the Bloody Sword. If they were heading for Reach without knowledge of the Amalgam, it would indeed be suicide; besides, all this was so very amusing to him.

In Deep Space. Relatively close to High Charity

Verix was immensely proud; they'd demolished the Covenant colony with much ease. Now, the unspeakably large world-ship floated inevitably towards High Charity; if it was destroyed, his task would be complete. Without the Prophets to guide them, and with their homeworld incinerated, the Covenant would crumble away.

However, before he could utter a word, he saw streaks of plasma fly toward the Aria. They were aware.

"Deploy squadrons, ready boarding ships. We must strike the Covenant at its heart!"

Planet Surface, Reach

The Amalgam infection was already spreading like wildfire. The Brain remained at the center of the crashed ship, shrouded in darkness and cold; conditions where it could thrive. It itself orchestrated the infection, the ambushes, and of course, the entire infection of the world. The Humans did not suspect a thing; all they knew were that a good portion of their ground teams had become MIA.

Parasites quite literally filled the air surrounding the crashed ships, and the other strains of Amalgam awaited orders. By the time the Rebels suspected something, it would already be too late.

The black of interstellar space exploded suddenly into brightness, washing the rogue asteroid field in bright purple illumination. Space frothed and boiled purple, and radiation and energy spikes flashed across the void. In near unison, eight Covenant cargo ships emerged into real space from the void of slipstream, stopping for a moment to reorient, and then proceed on their journey. However, to their captain’s confusion a warning flashed across the large view screens at the center of the smooth hulled bridge, signifying a strange disturbance in slipstream, preventing ships from entering the alternate dimension.

From the cockpit of his Phoenix attack fighter, currently perched atop an asteroid, Formation Leader Jace Williams watched the Covenant ships stop for a moment, and waited silently to strike. It was now.

“All ships, attack!” He bellowed into the mike, and 196 Phoenix craft exploded from their hiding place in the asteroid field, like a swarm of angry bees.

The Covenant cargo craft turned slowly to face this new threat, and Jace could clearly imagine the look of surprise on that Elite shipmaster’s face. The cargo craft were minimally armed, but they open fired nonetheless. Blue streaks of pulse lasers lit the night, and a dozen fighters exploded in a cloud of fire and metal. But the human fighters continued their mad charge, and juked and jinked in evasive maneuvers to throw off the Covenant gunners aim. Blue flashes whizzed by Jace’s cockpit, but the distance to the cargo ships was now closed.

In a flash, the humans were on top of the covenant craft. Blue white contrails of exhaust zoomed towards the Covenant craft, EMP missiles specially designed for just this sort of mission. Lightning danced on the hulls of the huge ships frying weapons emplacements and vital electronics to keep the craft moving. The engines of the huge ships stuttered and lost all light, and Jace whipped the stick upwards and sent his Phoenix into a lazy patrol around the now disabled craft. The rest of the formation joined him, and radio chatter echoed across the comm. Congratulations, jokes, the brotherhood of shared combat, all things that Jace missed dearly. Then again, all that he had held dearly was now gone.

A new set of lights came from the asteroids, as dozens of large boxy human cargo ships made their way to the disabled Covenant convoy. Among them, dozens of boarding craft maneuvered soundlessly in vacuum, full to the brim with RVAF troopers, or Rebel Vacuum Assault Forces soldiers. The small cylindrical transports stopped meters above the covenant boarding ships hull, and as their bay doors opened, hundreds of vacuum sealed soldiers poured out onto the hull, cut small holes throughout the hull, and dropped inside.

Jackson Williams jumped through the hull, bringing his old BR55-M45 Battle Rifle to bear. The weapon was not the newest gun, but it served his purposes. A trio of grunts fell as he expertly raked a burst across their small heads, and the rest of his squadron poured in. It was odd for him, a general to be leading a high-risk mission like this, but he had never let go of the thrill of combat. All throughout the ship, alarms blared, and derelict crewmen ran for their lives. Jackson and his squad made their way through, cutting down anything that moved, even their fellow humans. Any human that sided with the Covenant was a traitor anyway. After only minutes, the entire ship was clear, and him and the crew set to work.

With a flash of their engines, the gargantuan cargo ships maneuvered away from the covenant convoy, large containing bins now filled to the brim with captured weapons, goods, and other supplies. The Phoenix fighters released their jamming, and formed up behind the monsters. Space boiled in front of the human group, and then a moment later they disappeared in a flash of light.

Several hours later, a Covenant battle group emerged from slipspace, only to find the wreckage of the convoy, destroyed by high explosives planted by the RVAFs.
