The wisecracking Unggoy known as Piyus is a peculiar individual by his species' standards. A social recluse and possessing a substantial survival instinct, Piyus was an Unggoy Ultra and one of the youngest to attain the title, only two years into service, who served in the later years of the Human-Covenant War, miraculously surviving the Fall of Reach and making it all the way to the Battle on Installation 00, in which he served alongside the Silver Talon.

Piyus soon became one of the key Unggoy members of the Interspecies Union, handling not only military matters and serving as a field commander, but also to work alongside mankind. He appears in the story Vadam Legacies: Warpath, in which he has performed crucial reconnaissance missions for United Nation Space Command Marines and later becomes a key member of the events to come. He carries substantial guilt about his Lance, led by a Sangheili Zealot, which ultimately met its untimely end at the Fall of Reach, which resulted in Piyus becoming jaded and cynical, yet still wanting to do good for his people.

Personality

A colourful character indeed, Piyus was an easy-going, "happy-go-lucky" Unggoy in his youth, full of religious zeal and enthusiasm for the Covenant regime. However, as time passed, by the point of the Fall of Reach, Piyus had become somewhat jaded, earning a reputation for his substantial survival instinct which helped him survive much of the war. He not only suffers a guilt complex brought on by his survivor status, but also that of insecurity. He knows of his people's low standing in the Covenant and yet remained steadfast despite the opposition he often faced in one of the many jaded broodings he had.

He is an interesting countertype to the pack mentality and gregariousness of the Unggoy psychology which proved to alienate him further from his comrades and again dull his ability to see the good in the world, despite the good he brought to it. After siding with the Covenant Separatists at the end of the Human-Covenant War, Piyus went on to become a military commander of the Unggoy, which helped mellow him out, despite having still lost his idealism.
