The Orbital Drop Shock Trooper Expeditionary Unit is the smallest of the Marine joint special ops formations, and is ideally mounted on Heimdall-class Frigates and Thermopylae-class Cruisers, from where they can launch efficiently and expediently.
Ground Combat Element
The Ground Combat Element, commonly referred to as the GCE, consists of a reduced shock trooper battalion which sports two companies that are always ready for immediate HOPE drop, as well as a company that is on stand-by for orbit-to-ground insertion via the Pelicans of the Air Combat Element. The fourth company, which is the specialist unit of the battalion and can be deployed as needed, consists of a heavy weapons platoon, a combat engineer platoon, and a reconnaissance/pathfinder platoon.
Air Combat Element
The Air Combat Element, or ACE, consists of 2 air/starlift squadrons of 6 D-79I Pelicans each, along with 2 support squadrons of 2 MD-79L Gannet dropships each. The ACE is responsible for most, if not all, non-HOPE deployments that the GCE must make, as well as emergency battlefield reinforcement and resupply operations.
Logistic Support Element
The logistics element of an ODSTEU consists of a platoon-sized force who ensures that the supplies and equipment of the battalion stay in order, reach the drop zone in a timely fashion, and are responsible for the loading and movement of said supplies onto the Pelicans and Gannets of the ACE. The LCE also issue logistics command and control orders to the ACE and GCE forces.
The Command Element (CE) houses the leadership of the ODSTEU, and is responsible for issuing orders and commands, gathering intelligence relative to the mission at hand, and conducting electronic warfare and defence. It consists of an ANGLICO unit of a single Fire Control Team and communications unit.
