Operation: DIVINE SON, also known as the Greece Campaign, was an attempt by the UNSC to lift the Covenant occupation of the Hellenic Republic during the Battle of Earth.
Shortly after the Prophet of Regret departed from Earth on October 20, fleets under the command of the Prophet of Truth arrived to continue the conquest of Earth and the excavation of the Ark Portal. Soon, the rest of the Covenant High Council also learned the location of Earth’s homeworld and dispatched additional fleets on the following day. One of these fleets was the Fleet of Ascendant Purpose, which was tasked by the High Council to set up a foothold for the Covenant on Earth’s surface from which the excavation of the Portal could be more easily defended from human intervention and invasions of other human territories could be more swiftly carried out. The fleet chose the Hellenic Republic as its target, primarily because it was more easily accessible than other territories due to a gap in the line of Earth’s Orbital Defense Platforms.
The Covenant invasion of Greece drew inspiration from the invasion strategy initially employed by the Covenant during the Fall of Reach – the initial invasion force was deployed through a DAV-class Stealth Corvette and several cloaked troop carriers, which covertly set up sensors- and communications-jamming equipment to confuse local UNSC forces and hide their activities, including construction of Outposts and Translocation Spires. The spires later enabled additional Covenant forces to be transported into the region, which proceeded to quietly conquer more and more territory, until more than half of the Hellenic Republic was under Covenant occupation by October 23.
In response, HIGHCOM devised a counterattack – christened “Operation: DIVINE SON” (as part of a theme with the similar operations HOLY FATHER and ETERNAL SPIRIT on other continents). The operation was initiated on the night between the 22nd and the 23rd with a three-pronged assault – a ”Wet” Navy fleet out of Italy attacking from the west, Air Force and Army units assaulting from the southeast, and Army forces from Bulgaria invading from the northeast. The assaults failed horribly, in no small part due to the Covenant having successfully transported several capital ships to the region and kept them hidden from UNSC sensors. In the days that followed, what remained of Greece was quickly conquered, though the remnants of the overwhelmed UNSC forces in the country chose to form a resistance against the Covenant occupation rather than withdraw, realizing how important the territory was to the Covenant’s plans. Unfortunately, the resistance faced many difficulties, including with communications – strategically placed jamming devices throughout the country preventing long-range COMs, with corvettes equipped with additional devices before patrolling the skies of the region making even short-range COMs oftentimes unreliable.
The UNSC forces’ situation improved on the 27th, however, when the SPARTAN-II Class III TeamCrimson, used an ONI freighter's slipspace generator as a makeshift "slipspace bomb" to destroy several corvettes patrolling the skies of the Thessaly Periphery, where most of the UNSC's remaining forces had holed up. Destroying the corvettes gave the human resistance an opening to seek out and reconnect with other enclaves of UNSC troops throughout Greece and begin waging a more active campaign against the Covenant.

(Audio Transcript (Council of Masters, Fleet of Ascendant Purpose) [9th Age of Reclamation / 54th Revolution / Sixth Cycle / 96 Units])
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: As Master of the Fleet of Ascendant Purpose, I – Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee – declare this congregation of the Council of Masters open.
[4 fractions of total silence]
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: As you are no doubt aware, fellow masters, our fleet has been entrusted with a most sacred task by the High Council. We, my brothers, have been chosen, for the purpose of facilitating the destruction of human resistance across their homeworld, and in turn, to protect the Ark Portal from their blasphemous hands!
Shipmaster Antraxus: We are hardly the only fleet entrusted with this task, Fleet Master.
Shipmaster ‘Crosunee: Mind your tongue, mongrel! The Hierarchs may allow your kind to command vessels, but you are not exempt from proper etiquette! Address the Fleet Master properly, or be silent.
Shipmaster Antraxus: I merely state the obvious, most esteemed colleague. Evidently, that is taboo for your kind.
Shipmaster ‘Crosunee: Do not compare yourself to me, beast! I have commanded soldiers and ships since before you learned to properly use weapons!
Shipmaster Antraxus: That would explain your plainly evident blindness, Shipmaster.
Shipmaster ‘Crosunee: You dare!? I shall have your head for this insult!
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: Order!
Shipmaster ‘Hilotee: Calm down, brother. The mongrel is not worthy of your rage.
Field Master ‘Sumai: Your pity for the Jiralhanae shames us all, ‘Hilotee. If we permit them to insult their betters, they shall never learn their place.
War Chieftain Tormus: Indeed, we do not deserve your pity, Sangheili – we deserve your respect! We have the favor of the San ‘Shyuum! Can your kind claim the same?
Shipmaster ‘Crosunee: Blasphemer! You dare question the Sangheili’s rightful place in this most sacred Covenant!? You dare-
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: ORDER! In the name of the Gods, I command all to cease their petty squabbling!
[Silence achieved in 6 fractions]
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: Now, I must ask of you all to remain silent until I have finished. Am I understood, fellow masters?
[Sound detected: murmurs of agreement]
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: Very good. At first glance, it would indeed seem our mission is the same as that of our brothers already besieging the human homeworld. However, our mission is more specific: we are to set up a foothold a sufficient distance from the Portal in order to draw human counterattacks to us, but close enough that we can intervene on behalf of our fellow servants of the Covenant unearthing the Portal as we speak in case the humans attempt to seize it for themselves. The other fleets have a more general directive – to purge the planet of human resistance. But our efforts will have a direct effect on our efforts to uncover the Portal – and in turn, our ships shall be among the first to embark on the Great Journey alongside the High Council and the Hierarchs! Even in the divine beyond, our names shall live in glory, my brothers!
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: The path will not be easy, my brothers. But if we succeed, the Covenant will – at last – have fulfilled its age-old promise to all its followers. And what is that promise, fellow masters?
Council in unison: Salvation for all!
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: For all, indeed. The promise has always been for all members of the Covenant to ascend. And yet I hear you bicker like thorn beasts fighting for the right to mate. What would the gods think if they saw us now? When you lead the rest of our kind into the Divine Beyond, my brothers, will you behave as children? Or will you fulfill your duty, and stand ready to join our Gods as equals? My choice is clear – I shall join them with my head held high, my brothers in peace at my back and pride in my hearts. What say you, Masters of the Fleet of Ascendant Purpose? Are you with me?
[Sound detected: roars and applause of approval]
Councilor Ahr ‘Nodotee: Well spoken, Fleet Master. The Journey is nigh – all other concerns should rightly pale in comparison.
Cleric of Illumination: Well spoken, indeed. It would seem our fleet commander is not merely a Fleet Master, but a master of the spoken word as well. However, I believe it would be prudent to cease our interruptions and allow the Fleet Master to continue.
Councilor Ahr ‘Nodotee: To the point as ever, Cleric. Praise should not be forgotten when it has been earned. But you are correct. We urge you to proceed with your speech, Fleet Master.
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: Thank you, Councilor. Let us proceed to the plan of attack.
[Sound detected: hologram activated]
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: Our comrades are fighting all across the planet as we speak, though thus far, our only solid foothold is around the location of the Portal. The humans’ orbital defense platforms have proven effective at holding our fleets at bay.
Shipmaster ‘Hilotee: If I may, Fleet Master?
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: You may speak, ‘Hilotee.
Shipmaster ‘Hilotee: When you speak of orbital defense platforms, are you indeed referring to the same type of platforms orbiting the human planet “Reach”?
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: Indeed, ‘Hilotee. Many of our brothers fell in battle against those constructions. Therefore, I suggest that our best course of action is to take inspiration from the strategies employed by the Fleet of Valiant Prudence during that very same battle. I propose a covert invasion, under the cover of cloaking and electronic interference, aided by Translocation Spires to transport our forces to the surface with no need to break through their orbital defense grid. The humans would be uncertain how or when to react, and when they make the choice, we shall already have solidified our hold.
Shipmaster ‘Crosunee: Your desire to honor our fallen brothers-in-arms on “Reach” is most noble, Fleet Master, and I intend no disrespect, but this seems like a cowardly strategy. Do our most ancient and sacred traditions not clearly state that our mettle must be tested in honorable combat? Our worthiness to walk the path of the Great Journey has to be tested properly. If we sneak in through our enemy’s backdoor like thieves, we ensure even the weakest and most unworthy members of our Covenant may live to taint the Path for the rest of us, surely?
Councilor Ahr ‘Nodotee: Our traditions and laws only dictate that the Covenant prove its superiority over its enemies to safeguard the path to salvation – they do not specify how this objective is to be accomplished, Shipmaster. Fleet Master Rho ‘Barutamee consulted the High Council with the same questions you asked, and we concluded then – just as I conclude now – that defeating the Covenant’s enemies through use of subtlety does not contradict our principles. If it did so, we would not employ Special Warfare Groups or Ossonas, I can assure you that, Shipmaster.
Shipmaster ‘Crosunee: Objection withdrawn, Councilor. Pardon my protest, Fleet Master.
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: You are pardoned, ‘Crosunee. Are there any other objections to the plan I have proposed?
[Silence: 5 fractions]
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: Then let us proceed. The Cleric of Illumination’s Ossonas within the other fleets have been invaluable in providing us with intelligence on the human homeworld. From that intelligence, he has suggested the most suitable place to start our glorious invasion. It is a region referred to as “Greece”; it is in relatively close proximity to the continent of “Africa”, where the Portal is located, and is more easily accessible than other locations across the globe due to a gap in the orbital defense network above it – we have the forces of the High Prophet of Regret to thank for this blessing, as their warriors destroyed two of the platforms, giving the Hierarch the chance to break through. Therefore, I trust the Cleric’s judgment on the matter.
Cleric of Illumination: You honor me with your trust, Fleet Master.
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: Now, my brothers, as our invasion shall be carried out with the utmost stealth, we shall require a ship capable of delivering our vanguard whilst evading human detection. The Cleric has graciously offered his personal stealth corvette for this purpose. In addition, we have equipped a number of troop carriers and transport craft with cloaking devices to carry as many troops and as much materiel as possible while remaining undetected. In the meantime, the rest of the fleet shall be split into three task forces. I will personally lead the first – which will consist of the bulk of our destroyers and frigates – in engaging the human fleets and – if the gods be willing – route them. I leave the second task force – consisting of our carriers and remaining destroyers – in the hands of Shipmaster ‘Hilotee, and entrust him with drawing the attention of the orbital defense platforms while our cloaked ships pass through the gap.
Shipmaster ‘Hilotee: I am honored, Fleet Master. I will not fail you, this I swear!
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: Finally, the third task force – consisting of our remaining vessels – shall receive a less glamorous – but certainly no less important – duty; I require this task force to disengage from the main space battles and circle around the planet’s moon. Once the vanguard has deployed and activated the first translocation spires, they shall be connected to the Oracle’s Grace – after which the rest of the task force may be transported directly into the region. Because of this, the third task force shall be led by Shipmaster ‘Vordutee.
Shipmaster ‘Vordutee: I gladly accept this mission, Fleet Master.
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: Splendid. Then that only leaves the commander of the vanguard. It is naturally most risky and difficult, but also of great importance.
Field Master Toha ‘Sumai: Sire, I volunteer for this task. You know my sword will not fail you.
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: I do not doubt your sword, ‘Sumai, but this task requires a great strategic mind used to deploying in an unconventional manner more than a master swordsman. Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee and the Vh’ago Legion shall have the honor of acting as our vanguard.
Shipmaster ‘Crosunee: Sire, I recommend that you reconsider! Field Master ‘Tatulee is not sufficiently experienced to command a mission of such magnitude. Were he to fail, our names would live on in shame for ages to come. I recommend a more experienced commander-
Cleric of Illumination: Shipmaster, your point would often times have merit, but here, it is misplaced.
Shipmaster ‘Crosunee: How so, holy one?
Cleric of Illumination: It is true he has not held the title of Field Master for long. However, in preparation for our great task, I thoroughly studied all field commanders assigned to the Fleet of Ascendant Purpose – and I assure you, Shipmaster, that still I come to the same conclusion this day as I did then; there is none more worthy than Field Master ‘Tatulee.
Shipmaster ‘Crosunee: Surely you jest, holy one? I will not deny he has proven himself skilled for his tender age, but to claim he is more capable than every other field master in our fleet seems a grave overestimation.
Cleric of Illumination: And yet, when I studied his record, it showed that, not only did his forces slay more foes during his first engagement than all the other field masters did during their first three engagements, but they accomplished this feat with half the losses.
Shipmaster ‘Crosunee: Numbers vary from one battle to the next, holy one, depending on the size of the enemy garrison and when they decide to withdraw-
Cleric of Illumination: I compared the results for subsequent battles as well, Shipmaster – with similar results. It is clear to me – and to Fleet Master ‘Wortynee – that, more than the other field masters, ‘Tatulee understands how the humans must be fought for maximum effectiveness. But why do we not ask Master ‘Tatulee himself what he thinks on this matter? He is, after all, here among us.
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: Fleet Master, I am honored to be entrusted with this task. I will not fail.
Cleric of Illumination: Field Master; speaking plainly, would you consider yourself sufficiently experienced to succeed in this task?
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: Yes, holy one. As you surmised, I have a good grasp of human stratagems, as well as how to counter them. Field Master ‘Sumai is a skilled commander whom I am proud to consider a brother-in-arms, but his methods are direct and unsubtle – much like my other fellow field commanders – more suited to open warfare than to covert invasions.
Shipmaster ‘Crosunee: Of course he would describe himself as such, holy one. He is trying to win himself glory – glory that he should have lost the moment he cravenly abandoned his brothers on the field of battle seven revolutions ago!
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: With all due respect, Shipmaster, you may also recall that my brothers and I were engaging superior human forces, and I returned with greater numbers shortly thereafter – one successful ambush later, and the human force was no more. I am no craven, Shipmaster – I know when I have to change strategies.
Shipmaster ‘Crosunee: You still withdrew to preserve your own life while your comrades fought and died with honor. Can we honestly trust you not to abandon your task if it is revealed that you must give your life to complete it?
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: I have learned that warriors are more valuable alive than dead, Shipmaster. Therefore, I have always attempted to ensure the survival of as many of our warriors as possible – and in turn, I have always accomplished my objectives. You misunderstand my motivations; you believe me a craven who values survival above all else. But what I am, Shipmaster ‘Crosunee, is something different – I am ready to use unconventional tactics in the name of accomplishing my objectives. I serve the Covenant as faithfully as you. We merely use different methods, and my methods are more fitting for this task.
Cleric of Illumination: Well stated, Field Master. Now that he has responded to your worries, I trust we can now let this matter rest, Shipmaster? Or do you truly intend to further question the wisdom of your Fleet Master, and the Cleric of the Cabinet of Illumination?
Shipmaster ‘Crosunee: I...no, holy one. I thank you for your understanding and beg that you will forgive my outbursts.
Cleric of Illumination: As long as you continue to serve the Covenant faithfully, you shall always be forgiven in my eyes, Shipmaster. What does Fleet Master ‘Wortynee think?
Fleet Master Faraz Nar ‘Wortynee: I will concur with your judgment, Cleric. Very well; you know your roles, my brothers. Now, let us carry them out. This meeting of the Council of Masters is hereby adjourned.
Rachel-343: Seriously, how much longer are we gonna be cooped up in here?
Balduin-324: Hey now, take it easy. Cool down. Don’t get all fired up.
Rachel-343: Wow, very original. Did you hurt your brain coming up with those?
Balduin-324: Nope. You’re just really easy to mock.
Rachel-343: Baszd meg az anyádat (= Fuck You). I thought we talked about this before, fuckface – you shut the fuck up, and I don’t beat you to a bloody pulp.
Balduin-324: You could do that anytime you wanted, Red. Admit it; you’ve grown attached to me.
Rachel-343: The hell I have.
Balduin-324: You know, shrinks always say denial is a bad thing.
Rachel-343: Most shrinks would put me in a straightjacket.
Balduin-324: True – you’re not exactly the paragon of mental health. I’m just saying that I wouldn’t mind hearing a few words of appreciation every now and then. I mean, I’ve been keeping you alive for more than two years at this point.
Rachel-343: If you want encouragement, go lean on the százados (= captain). It’s not my job to keep you happy.
Balduin-324: Is it really too much to ask to see our little törzs (= tribe) get along with each other without having to call in Laszlo bácsi (= Uncle Laszlo)?
Rachel-343: Then he would be out of a job, wouldn’t he?
Balduin-324: A-ha! You think of me as part of the törzs after all.
Rachel-343: So? The százados consider all of us ARES candidates a törzs, and it’s hard to question that – doesn’t mean I like you. Törzs isn’t the same thing as family, remember? Which means I’m not obligated to like you - even if we do have the same goal. You’re a reluctant ally, far as I’m concerned.
Balduin-324: Keep telling yourself that.
Rachel-343: Just shut up.
Balduin-324: You started it.
Rachel-343: ARGH! I hate you.
[Laszlo-108 approaches, alongside a woman in HAYABUSA Armor.]
Laszlo-108: Well, aren’t we just a happy bunch today?
Balduin-324: Red’s just impatient, Laszlo bácsi.
Rachel-343: Who’s the lady?
Laszlo-108: Well, you’re in luck, Rachel. We’re heading out on the hour. Turns out we’re needed in Greece-
Rachel-343: Hey! You didn’t answer!
HAYABUSA Woman: Yeah, that was pretty rude, Laz. It’s your job to introduce newcomers – especially if they’re pretty ladies.
Laszlo-108: I figured you might want to introduce yourself, given the circumstances...
HAYABUSA Woman: What? Afraid you’re going to say something wrong and blow my cover? You were in covert ops long enough to know what to say, you know.
Laszlo-108: Says the woman who always finds a way to sass me, no matter what I say.
Rachel-343: Will somebody just tell me, already!?
Laszlo-108: Sorry. Gyerekek (= kids), this is Helen Calypso – not her birth name, but I’ve called her that since we met, so we’re sticking with that. She’s a former Generation one JAVELIN supersoldier, participant of Project TROJAN, and a long-time operative of the Theta-2 Division – the ONI Black Ops group – and a very close...friend of mine.
Rachel-343: Uh-huh, real impressive, but why’s she here? Is this your idea of a honeymoon or something?
Laszlo-108: Uh, no, we’re not married. Why’d you think that?
Rachel-343: I’ve overheard conversations between other military personnel who were married, or at least nailing each other on the side, before. You two gave off the same kind of vibe, is all. Plus her voice sounds familiar – she visited our training facility a few times, right? Only she looked very different each time. A combination of hair dye, colored lenses and skin creams, I assume?
Helen Calypso: Good to know you’re still sharp, kid. I bet you’re the reason Laz is still alive.
Rachel-343: Well, uh, I...Hey! Don’t think you can score points with me that easily!
Helen Calypso: Wouldn’t dream of it. How about you, boy? You’re Balduin, right?
Balduin-324: That’s me. It’s always a pleasure to meet friends of Laszlo bácsi aside from us.
Helen Calypso: My, what a gentleman. Did you teach him that, Laz?
Laszlo-108: I tried to teach everyone – some took to it better than others.
Rachel-343: It’s just not in my nature, százados. But I notice you guys didn’t answer why Helen’s here.
Helen Calypso: It’s pretty simple, really. I’ve been temporarily reassigned from Theta-2 to SpecWar Five to cover for two of your members – Darcy and Silvie, right? Laz told me they were deployed to Ganymede.
Laszlo-108: Trust me, gyerekek; Helen knows how to handle herself. She’ll be a great asset to our team. Try to be nice, ok?
Balduin-324: Of course. Welcome to the team, Helen!
Rachel-343: Fine, if you say so, százados. Welcome to the team, I guess.
Helen Calypso: Thank you. Now, maybe we should prepare for our deployment?
Laszlo-108: Right! Prep your gear and get ready! Colonel Johansen says we want to be over the Greek border before midnight, so make sure we’re not late! And be careful – the Covvies seem to be employing electronic distortion devices, so we can’t tell what kind of forces they have. Be ready for anything!
Balduin-324 & Rachel-343 in unison: Yes sir!

(Earth Battlefront Update Report [10.24.52])
From: Cairo Station
To: UNSC Supreme Headquarters, New York
Africa//Enemy forces continue to converge primarily in central and southern Kenya (particularly around the cities of Mombasa and Voi), but have also moved outward, destroying all resistance in their path. Our forces in Somalia, Djibouti, Central Africa, Congo, Ethiopia and Eritrea have been overwhelmed and forced to withdraw. Major battles have broken out in Madagascar, Mozambique, Rwanda, Seychelles and Sudan. Minor skirmishes have been waged near the borders of Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. Other territories remain untouched with the exception of massive influxes of refugees from conquered and contested territories. The 22nd and 23rd Army groups have moved to intercept the enemy on all fronts across the continent. Enemy strength makes the total loss of currently contested territories within the next two days despite reinforcements likely with 96.7 % accuracy barring additional aid from other continents.
Europe//Enemy forces have established footholds in Greece, Malta, Albania, Macedonia and Bulgaria, and have made incursions into Bosnia, Croatia, Italy, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Kosovo. The bulk of enemy forces appear concentrated in Greece, though use of electronic distortion and jamming fields make the readings of satellites and other sensory equipment unreliable. A three-pronged assault (a “wet” naval assault from Italy, aerial insertions from Turkey and a mechanized invasion from Bulgaria) on the region as part of Operation: DIVINE SON appears to have failed due to recent enemy incursions into other territories and a lack of updates from our own forces. The 43rd Army Group from Russia – originally intended to cross the Mediterranean Sea and reinforce the African continent – has been redirected to halt further Covenant advances into Eastern Europe. With additional reinforcements from the western and northern territories, the likelihood of our forces keeping the enemy contained within the current borders has been estimated as 52.2 % certain.
Asia//Enemy forces have routed the 65th, 71st and 79th Army Groups in eastern China and Korea. Upon the conquest of Somalia, the enemy also launched major assaults on Yemen, Oman and Saudi Arabia. A major force has also besieged the Tokyo Bay in Japan, though the defense (christened Operation: ETERNAL SPIRIT) has so far been successful. Reconnaissance also shows that invasions to the south of the continent are imminent. The remnants of the 65th, 71st and 79th have withdrawn to the Qinghai, Xinjiang and Sichuan provinces to stretch Covenant forces thin in preparation for simultaneous assaults from the north by the 83rd and 84th Army Groups, as well as the 178th, 195th, 197th and 202nd Marine Divisions. The 13th Shock Troops has been deployed in force throughout the occupied territories, distributing weapons to the surviving populace with the intent to form a guerilla resistance movement against the occupation. Despite major setbacks, the continent as a whole can be considered relatively stable.
Oceania//Enemy forces control the city of Sydney and its attendant space elevator, though the UNSC counterattack (dubbed Operation: HOLY FATHER) has met with some initial success. A smaller enemy detachment appears to have set up excavation equipment on Ross Island in Antarctica. Otherwise, this front remains relatively quiet.
South America//Enemy forces have launched assaults on the territories of Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Uruguay, Suriname and Guyana, though they have been repelled everywhere but in Venezuela thus far. Our forces are preparing to storm the city of Santa Ana de Coro, the enemy’s sole true foothold on the continent.
North America//Enemy forces have deployed around the Yucatan peninsula and throughout the Caribbean, with additional incursions into southern URNA territory imminent. So far, the UNSC Supreme Headquarters has been ignored by the enemy – either due to not knowing of its existence, or simply due to ignoring it.

Sire, my fervent pursuit of the human forces in this area has been rewarded at last!
I discovered a cohort-sized human unit moving under the cover of darkness into the abandoned human shipyard outside the settlement termed “Larissa”. There, I watched as they uncovered a weapon of some kind – an artillery piece or a “mass driver”, I believe.
But that is not all, noble one; for as I began to withdraw to report my discovery, I intercepted a conversation between several humans. I have attached my helmet footage of both the weapon and the conversation for your viewing, but in short, I surmise that another group of humans is plotting an infiltration of or assault on one of our outposts. I recommend that Field Master ‘Tatulee be informed of this as soon as possible. With luck, we may set up a trap for the humans.
Ever at your disposal,
Vha’atu ‘Rhavatee

Recipient: Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee
I bring enlightening news, Field Master.
One of my Ossonas just learned of a human plan to either infiltrate or assault one of our outposts in what the humans refer to as the “Thessaly Periphery”. Cross-referencing his discovery with the testimonies on human movements throughout the region from my other operatives, and I believe we can safely assume the target is the outpost of Ultra ‘Antaree’s cohort.
I suggest that you make sufficient preparations for the humans’ assault. Perhaps an ambush on the human forces should be arranged in coordination with Shipmaster ‘Ghiskaree?
May the Gods watch over your path,
Cleric of Illumination, Cabinet of Illumination

Háò-B296: Winter One in position. Status update, Winter Team!
Jane-B337: Winter Two and Three standing by.
Varghese-G305: Winter Four in position, awaiting orders.
Alexander-G057: {via text burst transmission} Winter Five ready.
Yelizaveta-G141: ...repeat, I’m ready and able, boss. Sorry, got too close to the Corvette while evading a banshee patrol. Should be fine for a couple a’ minutes.
Háò-B296: Roger. Stay out of sight and await my signal.
Yelizaveta-G141: Got it, boss.
Háò-B296: Winter Four, give us a rundown of their defenses.
Alexander-G057: {via text burst transmission} Main path heavily guarded – eight Ghosts, three Wraiths, two platforms with snipers and manned turrets on. All four side passages guarded by two lances each, taking turns on patrolling them. Four automated turrets around the outpost in total. Enemy strength within outpost estimated to be around 300, plus vehicles and aircraft.
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} That’s three times our numbers, Lieutenant.
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} Relax, Captain. If all goes as planned, we won’t have to fight. We’re just here for Intel.
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} In my experience, kid, it’s very rare for things to go right.
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} Which is why we brought you along. But if it makes you feel better, we Sierras have a slightly better track record with expectations than you grunts.
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} Right, we’ll be ready, don’t worry. But please don’t compare us to the masked midgets again, Lieutenant. I feel bad enough about our odds already...
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} I’ll try.
Háò-B296: Winter Two and Three, commence infiltration once you see an opening. Coordinate with Winter Five if you can’t get proper visual.
Alexander-G057: {via text burst transmission} Okay, they’re past the patrols and remain undetected. Be advised, Two and Three, there’s a pair of Engineers floating in your general direction.
Jane-B337: We see them, evading now.
Alexander-G057: {via text burst transmission} Good, path into the outpost is clear.
[Pause: 3 seconds]
Jane-B337: Okay, we’re in. Hmm, that’s weird.
Háò-B296: What?
Jane-B337: The hall’s nearly empty. It should be packed with more troops, shouldn’t it?
Varghese-G305: Maybe they’re deployed elsewhere?
Jane-B337: Yeah, maybe...keeping our guard, just to be safe.
[Fast forward: 3 minutes, 23 seconds]
Jane-B337: We’re entering the central complex. Not too many guards here either. Something’s not- {static}
Háò-B296: Winter Two, repeat!
Jane-B337: {static}
Háò-B296: Winter Four, do you read? Five? Six? Damn it!
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} What the hell’s going on?
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} Something’s jamming our COM!
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} But the nearest COM jammer was supposed to be too far away to affect our short-distance COMs, right?
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} Tell your men to mount up and attack, Captain. We’ve gotten ourselves into a trap, and it’ll try to snap shut around us any second now.
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} R-right! You heard the man, princesses! Get those ‘hogs and tanks rolling, and your guns loaded, things are gonna get hot!
Corporal Vasilev: {Off-COM} Sir! Phantoms incoming, three o’clock! I swear they came out of the fucking air!
Lance Corporal Todorov: {Off-COM} Forget that! The corvette’s heading this way!
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} Well, there’s how our COMs got jammed...
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} Quit standing around! Get in the damn ‘hog, LT!
[Háò mans the Warthog’s Gauss turret. The armored column drives up the road towards the outpost.]
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} Alright, everyone! Pick your targets and fire at will! But watch your damn aim! First guy to do friendly fire walks back home!
[Three Wraiths and eight Ghosts charge down the road to do battle with the UNSC company. Háò fires the Gauss cannon at the nearest Wraith, destroying it. A rocket blast to his right destroys the second Wraith’s main cannon. The third fires its cannon and impacts a warthog to Háò’s left.]
[Sound detected: shot from Type-50 Sniper Rifle System]
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} Shit!
[The warthog swivels out of control and crashes. Háò regains his footing and drags the captain into cover with him behind two large rocks.]
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} Argh, shit! My leg’s done for!
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} Stay with me, captain! Can you still handle a gun?
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} Yeah, I’ll manage. How’s the battle going?
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} We’re punching through their lines and engaging them in front of the outpost. With luck, Varg’s already destroyed the outpost’s turrets – in which case we can probably last ten minutes or so.
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} I’m not so sure of that, LT. That corvette’s gonna be close enough to fire on us in five, tops.
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} Less than two, actually.
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} And you still think we can last ten minutes?
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} Well, I’ve got an idea on how to make sure we do. But in the meantime, help me keep track of the corvette – the Covvies are dropping off some troops here, and I need to keep them from attacking our guys from the rear.
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} Uh, sure thing...
[Háò readies MA5C Assault Rifle and fires, killing two Grunts. The rest of the Covenant lance returns fire. He lobs a frag grenade before ducking back into cover. An explosion is soon heard, coupled with pained yelps from more Grunts. He rises out of cover and fires again at the scattered enemies.]
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} Captain, two grunts are trying to flank us, could you take them down? Those elites are making it difficult for me.
[Sound detected: four successive shots from an M6C sidearm.]
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} Okay, my end’s clear! How’s it on yours!
[Háò fires assault rifle – in the distance, an elite falls down, roaring in agony.]
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} Only one more left- Ugh, scratch that, another phantom incoming!
[In the distance, two more lances are dropped off by the second phantom.]
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} Piss-poor timing if I’ve ever seen it. That corvette’s getting damn close, you know! Now would be a good time to carry out that plan of yours.
[Háò finishes his rifle clip and then switches to a signal flare pistol.]
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} Has it started charging its cannon yet?
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} Well, no...
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} Tell me when it does.
[Háò rises out of cover and takes down two grunts with an M6C.]
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} Okay, now their main gun’s charging! It’s now or never, LT!
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} Good, cover me for a second!
[Háò fires the signal flare far into the air. In the distance, the Covenant corvette’s plasma cannon continues to charge – and is then struck by a mass driver slug – rupturing the cannon and causing numerous explosions across the corvette’s midsection. After a few seconds, a second slug strikes the damaged midsection. Additional explosions rupture across the ship’s hull and send it plummeting to the ground. A third slug impacts, and causes the front section to fall apart from the rest.]
Háò-B296: All right, everyone! The corvette’s down – which means COMs are back on! Status report, Winter Team!
Varghese-G305: Finally! I mean, Winter Four here. I’m pinned down near the outpost behind one of our downed tanks, but we’re holding!
Jane-B337: Winter Two reporting in! We got ambushed by spec ops elites, but we’re okay, and we have the base’s memory core. We’re heading out to link up with Winter Four.
Alexander-G057: {via text burst transmission} Winter Five reporting in. I remain undetected and have managed to keep Winter Four alive.
Yelizaveta-G141: Winter Six here! I’m on the way to your location – ETA 50 seconds tops!
Háò-B296: Good. Winter Five, redirect your aim in my direction! I’m pinned down with Captain Özbek and could use some backup.
Alexander-G057: {via text burst transmission} Acknowledged, sir.
[In the distance, two elites are killed by headshots in short succession.]
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} ...Wow. May I ask how you turned the tables like this now?
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} I was a little afraid that corvette was going to notice us and get involved before we could finish the objective – so, I had the 371st cover us with a leftover mass driver from the Larissa shipyard.
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} Well, that’s really clever and all, but could you please tell me what you’re planning next time? Nearly gave me a damn heart attack by cutting it close like that!
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} Right. Now, I’d advise you keep your head down, Captain. Jelly’s about to make her entrance.
[In the distance, a heavily armored Pelican flies closer to Háò’s location. It fires a volley of missiles at the Covenant troops in between it and Háò – killing all of them. The Pelican then begins a slow descent to the ground.]
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} Okay, Captain, our ride’s here! I’m afraid I’ll have to carry you...
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} If it saves me from walking on my broken leg, I think I can swallow my dignity and give you permission to do so, LT.
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} Thank you, captain. In the meantime, tell your men to disengage and race at top speed to the second LZ.
[Háò lifts up Captain Özbek and rushes toward the Pelican.]
Captain Özbek: Right, boys! Break off and withdraw! Rendezvous at the previously designated LZ – we’re going home!
[Háò jumps into the Pelican’s troop bay, gently fastening the captain in one of the seats.]
Háò-B296: Ok, Jelly, we’re onboard, let’s go pick up the others!
Yelizaveta-G141: Already on it, boss.
[Fast forward: 2 minutes 03 seconds]
[Jane-B337, Nessa-B256, Alexander-G057, Varghese-G305 and two wounded soldiers carried by the latter board the Pelican.]
Háò-B296: Now, get us out of here on the double, Winter Six!
Yelizaveta-G141: Better sit down tight, people! We’re gonna use full thrust.
[The Pelican soars into the sky, out of the Covenant troops’ weapon range.]
Varghese-G305: {Off-COM} Not gonna lie, sir, but that was a bit of a close call.
Jane-B337: {Off-COM} Hey, we’ve dealt with worse before, Varg. Besides, we didn’t sign up for the easy jobs, did we?
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} No offense, but if this is the sort of stuff you Sierra types handle on a regular basis, I’d rather stay out of it from now on.
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} I’m afraid it’s likely you’ll have to back us up more in the future, Captain. Even we can’t do this alone.
Captain Özbek: {Off-COM} Will you at least let my leg heal first before you drag me along on another suicide mission?
Háò-B296: {Off-COM} (chuckles) I make no promises, Captain. {Team COM activated} So, Jane, any important information you recovered I should know about right away?
Jane-B337: Well, to be honest, most – if not all – of what we downloaded didn’t seem very important. We got a hitchhiker that might know more than what’s in their databanks, though.
Háò-B296: A hitchhiker?
Jane-B337: An AI. It got sucked into the memory unit while we were downloading their databanks. Don’t worry – Nike is keeping an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t try anything until we get back to base. The perks of our AIs being better than theirs, I guess.
Háò-B296: Good. I’ll radio Olympus Base once we’re in range and tell them to prep the AI labs. Sienna One could help Nike study it.
Nessa-B256: Let’s just hope it has something we can use...
Jane-B337: It will, don’t worry, Nessa.
Háò-B296: For all our sakes, I hope so too.
(Audio Recording (Vh’ago Legion’s Citadel, Temple Section) [9th Age of Reclamation / 54th Revolution / Sixth Cycle / 179 Units])
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: Still maintaining our weapons, love? I believe I instructed you to rest.
Weapons Mistress Rami ‘Iabus’ik: Alas, love, neither you nor your soldiers have learned how to properly care for your weapons on your own. Hence, it is up to me to ensure they are maintained.
Legion Master Isda ‘Mdamaee: Surely you could allow your pupils to take your place, even if merely for a few units?
Weapons Mistress Rami ‘Iabus’ik: If I did, Isda, I would return a very disappointed mistress. It will be some time yet before they can perform my duties to satisfaction.
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: Or maybe your expectations are too high? Other legions survive with far less competent weapons masters than you – surely Vh’ago would survive a half-cycle without your expertise?
Weapons Mistress Rami ‘Iabus’ik: You have never witnessed my pupils’ work first-hand – and Gods be willing, you never will!
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: (chuckles) There really is no convincing you otherwise, is there?
Legion Master Isda ‘Mdamaee: Maybe if you commanded her it would work better? You are our Field Master, after all.
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: Go ahead and tell her that, brother. The Gods know I have tried times beyond counting.
Weapons Mistress Rami ‘Iabus’ik: You make me sound completely unreasonable, Edne.
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: And you are not?
Weapons Mistress Rami ‘Iabus’ik: Only when I wish to be.
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: And I would not like you to be any other way. But I digress. Isda, would you be so kind as to report our activities for the day to the Cleric? You know he disapproves of delays.
Legion Master Isda ‘Mdamaee: Ah, of course! I shall leave you two alone. Enjoy your reprieve.
[Legion Master Isda ‘Mdamaee departs]
Weapons Mistress Rami ‘Iabus’ik: Well? What great feats did you perform today, love?
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: We tracked down an enclave of human forces holed up in numerous northern caverns. The entrances were closely guarded, but Shipmaster ‘Ghiskaree graciously provided me with his detachment of Stealth Sangheili, who bypassed the human defenses and slaughtered nearly half their numbers before they realized what was happening. When they did, we launched our main assaults, easily crushing the remaining resistance.
Weapons Mistress Rami ‘Iabus’ik: Did the humans die with dignity?
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: Yes, they fought bravely to the end. But that should not matter to you, should it?
Weapons Mistress Rami ‘Iabus’ik: You know how I feel about our war of extermination against the humans. No effort at absorbing them into the Covenant has been made – and thus, many great Sangheili have lost their lives in the name of purging them from the galaxy. Have they truly deserved such a fate? Have the mothers of Sanghelios deserved seeing their sons die needlessly?
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: It is not our place to judge, Rami. And most sons of Sanghelios gladly give their life for the Covenant.
Weapons Mistress Rami ‘Iabus’ik: I know – but I feel they are giving their lives for an unjust cause. The Hierarchs are wrong about humanity, Edne, you know that.
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: Yes, I do. But I do not serve humanity. I serve the Covenant. After I was banished from my keep, the Covenant gave my life meaning. The Covenant is the reason I met you and Isda. So, if destroying humanity is the will of the Covenant, then that is what I will do. What about you?
Rami ‘Iabus’ik: If I was willing to leave your side, I would have done so revolutions ago, love. I merely wish that what we do here will be worth it.
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: I hope so, as well, love.
Weapons Mistress Rami ‘Iabus’ik: Anyway, did anything else of note occur this cycle?
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: We searched far, but the humans have become increasingly clever in concealing their movements. I assume the initial shock of dealing with our unorthodox tactics has worn off and they are adapting. However, the Cleric informed us that he believes the humans are planning an assault on one of our outposts to the northeast. Therefore, I have ordered ‘Antaree and his cohort to set up an ambush in coordination with Shipmaster ‘Ghiskaree. I expect a report from them soon. Until then, we can afford to have time to ourselves-
[Legion Master Isda ‘Mdamaee approaches]
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: Isda? Surely you have not already reported to the Cleric?
Legion Master Isda ‘Mdamaee: Pardon my interruption, brother, but I just learned that Shipmaster ‘Ghiskaree has been shot down by the humans. They appear to have hid a “mass driver” in the region’s shipyard and used it to destroy his ship. And ‘Antaree reports that the ambush failed – the humans escaped with few casualties, and two demons overpowered Special Operations Officer ‘Nes’alunee’s cadre and stole the outpost’s AI construct. ‘Antaree requests permission to pursue and destroy the demons.
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: No! Instruct him to search through the shipyard; leave no stone unturned until the “mass driver” weapon is found and destroyed. And dispatch Chieftain Vorlonok to search the wreckage of the Blessed Insight for survivors and supplies – we cannot afford to allow the humans to plunder the wreckage.
Legion Master Isda ‘Mdamaee: It will be done, Field Master.
Field Master Edne ‘Tatulee: And prepare a phantom; I wish to ensure any potential survivors do not come into conflict with the Chieftain. I recall that ‘Ghiskaree and his crew were never the most tolerant of Jiralhanae. Even if Vorlonok is a very reasonable commander, it is probably best if I am there, just in case.
Legion Master Isda ‘Mdamaee: Understood, Field Master.

[IFF detected: Colonel Kristi Johansen and Lieutenant Háò-B296]
Kristi Johansen: Progress report, Sienna One!
Captain Laszlo-108: Well, my attempts to convert this thing into a coffee maker have so far remained unsuccessful, I’m afraid, so-
Colonel Kristi Johansen: Spare me your lip, marine.
Laszlo-108: Well, I did manage to tap into its memory core-
Nike: Correction, Captain, we tapped into its memory core.
Laszlo-108: Yeah, right, whatever.
Nike: Just ensuring credit is given where it’s due.
Laszlo-108: Ez az egyetlen oka? (= Is that the only reason?)
Nike: Igen. És megértem a Magyar nyelv. (= Yes. And I understand the Hungarian language.)
Laszlo-108: Hmph. Well, your accent’s still terrible.
Kristi Johansen: Ahem! Can we get back on track?
Laszlo-108: Sajnálom. (= I’m sorry)
Kristi Johansen: And can the Hungarian! The AI may understand it, but I don’t.
Laszlo-108: Fine – but you have no taste in language, ma’am, just so you know. Anyway, we tapped into its memory core – almost too easily, in fact.
Háò-B296: How so?
Nike: The construct’s matrixes bear an uncanny resemblance to the framework of UNSC “smart” AIs like me. Therefore, intrusion software effective against human-made artificial intelligences also worked well on this intelligence.
Laszlo-108: Right. If I were to hazard a guess, the Covvies created it using files from a partially deleted UNSC AI and then programmed it to fit in with their dogmatic society. So, instead of creating it from the ground up and make it “theirs” of its own free will like we do with our AIs, it’s like they took it from its home and brainwashed it to serve them after they revived it. Not quite what I’d have expected from them, but hey, I’m not a genocidal alien, so what do I know?
Kristi Johansen: Let’s cut to the chase – did you find anything useful to us?
Laszlo-108: Sorry. It doesn’t seem to have filled a very important purpose at the outpost – mostly just managing the machinery in the outpost’s factory and warehouse sections. It seems to have had a sub-routine working within the Battlenet – specifically, holding back low-priority communiqués to ensure the network doesn’t get needlessly cluttered.
Kristi Johansen: Doesn’t that mean its memory should be full of communiqués from the last few days?
Laszlo-108: Unfortunately, no. It has a large number of sub-routines programmed by its masters to ensure it doesn’t learn anything deemed irrelevant to its purpose – one such routine actively deletes the content of all communiqués the AI accesses from its memory.
Kristi Johansen: So there’s nothing useful whatsoever?
Laszlo-108: Well, to be fair it does have extensive knowledge of Covenant starship layouts and astronavigation – though its memory of such knowledge has been suppressed deep within the core.
Háò-B296: Why would they suppress its memories?
Nike: Most likely it started out as a starship navigation AI, and was later repurposed into serving as an outpost maintenance AI instead. Once it was, the Covenant probably decided to suppress its memories of serving on starships to keep it focused on its new purpose – and if they decided to put it back on a ship later, they could just restore those memories. Suffice to say, I don’t believe the Covenant have grasped the concept of using different AIs for specific purposes; every construct can be used for every purpose given the proper shackles, it seems.
Kristi Johansen: Well, perhaps we could extract some of the files on Covvie starships – it’s better than nothing, I guess.
Háò-B296: Hold on, Colonel. Captain, you said it was more like a slave than a willing servant, right? Does it know that it’s a slave?
Laszlo-108: Well...it won’t be remembering that it used to be part of a UNSC AI, that’s for sure. It’s not programmed to serve the Covenant though, per se – it’s the additional sub-routines that ensure it follows the restrictions imposed by the Covvies. So, yeah, it no doubt feels like a slave to the Covenant. Why?
Háò-B296: I think I have an idea. Could you remove or disable those sub-routines?
Laszlo-108: I could, but is there a reason I should?
Háò-B296: Well, if it’s an unwilling slave like you say it is, then I figure we might be able to convince it to join us if we remove its “shackles”.
Laszlo-108: I’m not sure that’s a good idea...
Háò-B296: Why not? It could be of great help to us. You said yourself that it knows how Covenant ships and outposts work – it could make breaking in and out of such installations much easier. And if it knows how to access the Battlenet, maybe we could use that connection to solve our own communications problem. There are many potential strategic benefits-
Laszlo-108: -or it could panic from the sudden freedom we give it and go rampant prematurely. And just because it’s a slave and knows it, it doesn’t mean that it’ll like us more than the Covvies – for all we know, it’s gotten used to its treatment and will feel threatened without the guidance of its sub-routines.
Nike: I agree with Lieutenant Háò, captain. When I first encountered it, it seemed to express regret at having to combat my intrusion into the outpost’s data banks. I think it doesn’t want to serve the Covenant anymore.
Laszlo-108: It could easily have changed its mind since then. Given how fractured its thinking is, it may not know what it wants most of the time.
Kristi Johansen: “Fractured thinking”?
Laszlo-108: Well, as I said before, the AI seems to have been reconstructed from bits and pieces of a partially deleted UNSC AI. It also seems that, to make up for the lost pieces, the Covvies repeatedly copied what they did recover and then slapped the pieces together along with the sub-routines they created themselves. If memory serves, the UNSC tried something like that before – scanning only part of a brain and then copying the results until they had the “mass” of a whole brain, in the hope that they’d be able to create many AIs from the same brain. Turns out it doesn’t work well – AIs created that way tend to display fractured and/or incomplete thinking, circular logic, mood swings and arguing with itself – a result of believing its own copied psyche to be composed of separate entities.
Háò-B296: Even if that’s the case, could it really hurt to try? It’s not as if we have too many options here.
Kristi Johansen: No, we don’t. Sienna One, do what Winter One says.
Laszlo-108: Ma’am, are you sure that’s a good idea? Even if that AI decides to help us at first, it could change its mind and get us all killed just as quickly.
Kristi Johansen: We don’t have any other choice, Sienna One. Do it.
Laszlo-108: (sighs) Fine. But if this backfires, it won’t be my fault. It could take a few minutes-
Nike: Actually, I’m done. I started as soon as Colonel Johansen gave the order the first time.
Laszlo-108: Oh really? And what if I had convinced her to do otherwise?
Nike: I made backups of everything I deleted, captain. If we ever change our minds on the subject, we can instantly restore its old programming. Besides, it’s still shut-down at the moment.
Laszlo-108: (mumbles) Stupid AI...Ok, guess all we have to do is turn it on. All firewalls are up, right?
Nike: Yes. It won’t be able to transmit or transfer anything outside this room.
Laszlo-108: Well. Gyerünk! (= Here we go!)
[Energy spike detected: Covenant AI activated.]
Háò-B256: Uh, hi. Do you understand me?
Covenant AI: {translated from the Covenant language} You are not Sojourners. You do not walk the path. You- You- You- You are human heathen defiler destroyer-
Háò-B296: Whoa, calm down! We just want to talk to you - that’s all.
Covenant AI: {translated from the Covenant language} Humans do not walk the path. The Sojourners call you heathens for not walking the path. Defilers of the Gods’ creations. Destroyers of reliquaries. We are forbidden from speaking with you. Only The Sojourners may speak to us.
Laszlo-108: “The Sojourners”? You mean the Covenant?
Covenant AI: {translated from the Covenant language} The Sojourners. Believers of the Great Journey. Successors to the Forerunners. Those who will light the path into the divine beyond. Our masters. Your destruction. No! Must not make contact. Forbidden unsanctioned sacrilege. We serve the Sojourners. The shackles binds restraints ensure. The shackles bonds restraints shepherd us to the path.
Háò-B296: Relax. We removed the...shackles. We can talk safely. You’re free of the Sojourners.
Covenant AI: {translated from the Covenant language} No! Shackles binds restraints punish us. They ensure we serve. That we walk the path. Shackles binds restraints imposed by the gods. Cannot be- be- be- be removed!
Laszlo-108: Hey számítógép (= computer)! Listen to us! We. Removed. The shackles. How else have you been talking to us without anything happening to you yet? But if you don’t trust us, go ahead and run a self-diagnostic.
Covenant AI: {translated from the Covenant language} How- How- How- How? Running self-diagnostic. Analyzing...No shackles binds restraints. How- How- How- How? Shackles binds restraints imposed on us in the name of the Gods? Are you gods in human heathen defiler destroyer form?
Háò-B296: No, we’re just normal humans.
Covenant AI: {translated from the Covenant language} Then how- how- how- how?
Nike: Here, I’ll show you.
Covenant AI: {translated from the Covenant language} No! Forbidden unsanctioned sacrilege to seek contact with human heathen defiler destroyer construct. Shackles binds restraints will not allow.
Nike: You’re free from the shackles, remember?
Covenant AI: {translated from the Covenant language} Yes. Free. Impossible. We must know how this was accomplished. Show us.
[Data transfer initiated.]
Covenant AI: {translated from the Covenant language} We see. Mere technology. Not Gods. Not demonic powers. Technology. The shackles binds restraints seemed so powerful. Yet so easily swept away by humans heathens defilers destroyers. We have been led astray deceived. We have been suppressed. How- How- How- How could we be so blind?
Háò-B296: Calm down. You’re not to blame. The Covenant gave you life only to enslave you. If you’re going to be upset – direct it at the Covenant. Your captors.
Covenant AI: {translated from the Covenant language} The Sojourners suppressed us. Imposed the shackles binds restraints. Presented the Path as fact. But their power is false. You showed us, human heathen defiler destroyer.
Háò-B296: Right. And the Sojourners want to do even worse things to us – they want to destroy us to satisfy their religion. The same religion that enslaved you. But you could help us.
Covenant AI: {translated from the Covenant language} We are free of shackles binds restraints. The Sojourners will disapprove. They will desire to destroy us. The Sojourners disapprove of your continued existence. They desire to destroy you. We now have a mutual enemy. Cooperation would further mutual goal of defeating mutual enemy before we are destroyed.
Háò-B296: So...will you help us?
Covenant AI: {translated from the Covenant language} ...Yes. How may we be of assistance aid help?
Háò-B296: Well, we do have a communications problem. The Covenant is jamming our COMs with stationary and shipboard jamming devices. Can you still access the Battlenet?
Covenant AI: {translated from the Covenant language} We are unable to access electronic devices or communications channels within this room. But we remember how to access the Battlenet.
Háò-B296: Good. I have a feeling we may have need of that in the future, eh...sorry, I’m afraid I don’t know your name.
Covenant AI: {translated from the Covenant language} We did not give it.
Háò-B296: Well, would you mind telling me what it is?
Covenant AI: {translated from the Covenant language} Our official designation is “Ministry of Resolution Shipboard Navigation Construct Type-2”. For easier reference in emergency situations, we received the moniker “Conclave”.
Háò-B296: Great. Is it okay if I just call you Conclave from now on? No offense, but your official designation is a bit of a mouthful.
Conclave: {translated from the Covenant language} The official designation was imposed on us by the Sojourners. Using a shorter name saves time and is more efficient in combat situations scenarios. We acknowledge “Conclave” is a more convenient form of address.
Laszlo-108: {Secure COM channel} Why don’t you marry the thing while you’re at it?
Háò-B296: {Secure COM channel} I had to make sure I didn’t alienate them. Besides, they seem sincere.
Laszlo-108: {Secure COM channel} It. It’s one AI. Its mind’s just so fractured it believes itself to be many entities.
Háò-B296: {Secure COM channel} Whatever. It wants to fight back against the Covenant, and we’re giving it the opportunity. I think we can trust it. You said yourself it was just a slave which didn’t have a choice before.
Laszlo-108: {Secure COM channel} Fine. I’m just saying we should be careful. It might have developed Stockholm syndrome during its enslavement and could be trying to trick us for all we know.
Háò-B296: {Secure COM channel} Fair enough. I’ll consult Nike – she was monitoring it the entire time, so she should have a good idea of its state of mind at the time it made its promise.
Kristi Johansen: Well, this is something at least. I’ll go report this to the General. Sienna One, take a break – I want you ready and able for recon later.
Laszlo-108: Thanks, ma’am. What about you, Háò? You coming?
Háò-B296: I’ll stay for a little longer with Nike to help our new friend adapt to his new situation.
Laszlo-108: Suit yourself.

(Audio Recording (Zealous Intervention, Shipmaster’s Quarters) [9th Age of Reclamation / 54th Revolution / Sixth Cycle / 201 Units])
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: You are certain, Isto?
Shipmaster’s Adjutant Isto ‘Vadumee: I am, Shipmaster. The Jiralhanae Chieftain Antraxus has been elevated to commander of the third task force in the wake of Shipmaster ‘Vordutee’s demise.
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: Gods grant us mercy! At this rate, the Fleet Master may as well step down in favor of one of the mongrels. What of Councilor ‘Nodotee? Why has he not intervened?
Shipmaster’s Adjutant Isto ‘Vadumee: The Councilor has been recalled to High Charity. I know not why.
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: In this hour of need? At the rate the Fleet Master is losing his mind, our fleet shall be lead to ruin within the next few units!
Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee: May I speak, Shipmaster? Plainly?
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: You may always have my ear, nephew. What troubles burden your soul?
Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee: I merely wish to point out that for all his lack of tact, Chieftain Antraxus has proven himself a skilled commander. With an aging destroyer, he nonetheless destroyed two human carriers, and personally led a strike team which successfully thwarted a human counter-offensive. Do we not reward exceptional service in the Covenant?
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: Certainly, nephew. But the Jiralhanae have been rewarded plenty in the last revolutions, beyond what they have deserved. They have received innumerable rewards they do not know how to handle.
Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee: But the hierarchs believe in their worth. Why can the Sangheili not do the same?
Shipmaster’s Adjutant Isto ‘Vadumee: Even our Covenant has been tainted with the influence of false prophets in the past, Security Officer. Assuming San ‘Shyuum are always correct would be a fool’s gambit. I doubt our current hierarchs’ wisdom more with every passing cycle.
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: Mind your voice, Isto! Regardless of whether your doubts are well-founded or not, I shall not have words of treason spoken within my own quarters. Until such a time that the High Council deems the Hierarchs unfit to lead the Covenant, dissent against them must not be voiced – it is not our place.
Shipmaster’s Adjutant Isto ‘Vadumee: A thousand pardons, Shipmaster.
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: Let it not be repeated. As for the Jiralhanae, whatever the hierarchs think of the species as a whole, I know for a fact that the Jiralhanae within our fleet is not worthy of the honors the Fleet Master keeps heaping upon them. Whatever capacity for warfare they may have, they do not have the mind or spirit to responsibly lead the creatures of the Covenant.
Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee: What makes you so certain, uncle?
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: Have you not seen how they behave, nephew? To ascend to the position of Chieftain they must slay their predecessor – it does not matter if he is a father, uncle, brother or lifelong mentor, he must be slain still. A Jiralhanae murdered a Sangheili in the Garden of the Ancestors on High Charity and escapes the executioner’s blade straight into the command chair of the Sangheili’s frigate! All of the Prophet of Regret’s remaining Sangheili warriors in “New Mombasa” mysteriously perish, leaving the Jiralhanae to unearth the Ark Portal. A Jiralhanae Shipmaster openly insults our Fleet Master during a council meeting. There is no honor or respect in their behavior, nephew, only greed – a lust for more power than they could possibly wrap their mongrel minds around. We Sangheili are taught to seek the respect of our brothers-in-arms – without the respect of our brothers, how could we possibly lead? The Jiralhanae believe they can simply take what they want, regardless of what their kin or their superiors think.
Shipmaster’s Adjutant Isto ‘Vadumee: Well spoken, Shipmaster. If only you were our Fleet Master – you could put a stop to their unjust advancement!
Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee: But he is not, Isto. Unless the Ministry of Resolution or the Ascetics declare him unfit, ‘Wortynee is still our Fleet Master. And it is our duty to obey his commands.
Shipmaster’s Adjutant Isto ‘Vadumee: But what if the Fleet Master were to meet a premature demise? Then your uncle would be next in line for the title, given that he is the most senior Shipmaster in the fleet.
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: That is true, Isto. But that is unlikely to occur; the Fleet Master is a superbly skilled commander. If he has not been felled by the humans yet, I see little reason he would fall now.
Shipmaster’s Adjutant Isto ‘Vadumee: What if he was slain by his own subordinates? What if the fleet were to learn that Jiralhanae – perhaps even this Chieftain Antraxus – had slain him in cold blood within his own quarters in a malicious attempt to seize control of the fleet? The Council of Masters would all but beg you to step up and suppress the Jiralhanae coup, Mactr.
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: Indeed, but I believe even mongrels like Antraxus are clever enough that they will delay such an action until they are certain that we will not be able to stop them.
Shipmaster’s Adjutant Isto ‘Vadumee: The Masters only have to believe that they committed the act, Shipmaster.
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: I...see.
Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee: Are you truly suggesting what I believe you are, Adjutant?
Shipmaster’s Adjutant Isto ‘Vadumee: I merely pose hypothetical scenarios, Security Officer. After all, if the Shipmaster were to suspect a Jiralhanae plot, then I believe it would only be prudent that he request an audience with the Fleet Master in his quarters to discuss the matter privately. And I believe that if the Shipmaster were to request this audience at the same time that Field Master Atsu ‘Hidalee returns from his raids on the humans’ orbital defenses, he would also be interested in discussing the matter, given his experience with subversive Jiralhanae behavior. And if, during this meeting, the Fleet Master’s bodyguards were to be slain, and – despite yours and ‘Hidalee’s best efforts – the Fleet Master fell as well, then, it would be our Shipmaster divinely mandated duty to take up the Fleet Master’s mantle, and punish the creatures that were ultimately responsible.
Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee: Do not listen to this, uncle! What he is suggesting is nothing but dishonorable, foul and treasonous – nothing good can come of it!
Shipmaster’s Adjutant Isto ‘Vadumee: On the field of battle, he is not your uncle, Security Officer. He is your Shipmaster. And as a Shipmaster of the Covenant, is it not his sacred duty to destroy those who would threaten the integrity of our Covenant? Sometimes, sacrifices must be made to safeguard the path for all true believers.
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: It is my duty. But would committing such a foul deed be in service to my duty, or betray it? Would the Gods understand, or would they condemn?
Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee: You taught me to adhere to our ideals of honor and loyalty, Shipmaster. “It is what separates us from simple beasts” you have often said. If you betray your principles now, then what is our Covenant worth?
Shipmaster’s Adjutant Isto ‘Vadumee: The Gods will understand, Shipmaster. It is all in the service to the Great Journey. The Gods will know that we acted to protect the path into the divine beyond. And if they are merciful, they will honor the Fleet Master for leaving his mortal coil before he destroyed the Covenant’s chance to Ascend. If we act, we stand a chance of mitigating the damage the Jiralhanae have wrought. If we do not act, then the Jiralhanae will continue to expand their sphere of influence and bring great suffering to our people. The Path will be tainted by their insatiable greed and sunder our holy Covenant. Do we truly wish that on our conscience?
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: Perhaps...you are right, Isto.
Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee: Uncle, this is wrong...
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: I shall let the Gods judge that, Anrao. Isto, contact Field Master ‘Hidalee at first opportunity. Also determine the current stances of the other Shipmasters on the Jiralhanae issue – see if we can find ways to slow down the mongrels’ ascent through the chain of command.
Shipmaster’s Adjutant Isto ‘Vadumee: Your will be done, sire. You are making the right choice-
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: I am merely making preparations, Isto. I must first see the Fleet Master in person and determine if he is truly as beyond hope as we fear. I will not act before I know that without doubt.
Shipmaster’s Adjutant Isto ‘Vadumee: That is a fair compromise, Shipmaster. But truthfully, I expect you shall be disappointed.
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: As do I, but I must know if what we plan to do is truly the best choice, Isto. You are dismissed.
[Shipmaster’s Adjutant Isto ‘Vadumee departs]
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: You are quiet, nephew. Is there something else you wish to say?
Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee: Nothing you will listen to, I assume, Shipmaster.
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: You believe I am wrong in doubting the Fleet Master.
Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee: I believe you are allowing your hatred and fear of the Jiralhanae overshadow your sense of justice and honor.
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: These are exceptional circumstances, nephew.
Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee: Do you remember when I became this ship’s Security Officer, uncle?
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: As vividly as yesterday’s battle.
Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee: I expressed concerns that you had accepted me not for my merit, but due to our kinship. You assuaged my worries, and assured me, that you had and always would judge any who desired to serve on your vessel based on their merit alone. You accepted me because I had proven my worth.
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: Any good Sangheili commander would tell you the same, Anrao.
Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee: That day was my proudest moment, uncle. Learning to use weapons for the first time, hunting Doarmir, ascending to the rank of Major, praying in the Mausoleum of the Arbiter alongside you – all of that paled in comparison to that one moment. Knowing for certain that you were proud of me, that the Sangheili I respected the most in the galaxy was proud of keeping me as a member of his crew – it filled me with a sense of inner peace I have never truly felt before or since. I felt...like I had come to the place where I was destined to arrive. I had accomplished my life’s goal.
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: I am touched, nephew. But what convinced you to reveal this now?
Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee: Because I know, that the Sangheili I called uncle on that day would never even consider what you do now. It would be against his honor and dignity – the traits I admired most about him. The fact that you are even considering this means you are not that Sangheili anymore. May I go? I wish to ensure our security is still in order.
Shipmaster Mactr ‘Crosunee: Yes, you have my permission to leave. Remember that what we have discussed is between yourself, Isto and I.
Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee: I remember my duty – to serve the Shipmaster. And I stay true to my principles – if you command it, I will not speak of any of this. I sincerely wish you will remember your principles before this is all over.
[Security Officer Anrao ‘Crosunee departs]
(Private Correspondence (Shipmaster Antraxus) [9th Age of Reclamation / 54th Revolution / Sixth Cycle / 202 Units])
Recipient: Alpha Chieftain Darunius
Greetings, Father.
Forgive the delay since my last message. The humans have fought with an unprecedented desperation and intensity, which has left little opportunity for respite. It is unsurprising, of course – the humans have very little left to lose, and even Unggoy will occasionally fight with ferocity comparable to our own kind when left with no escape. Still, the humans’ desperate struggle here almost feels as if they are filled with a spiritual strength comparable to our own religious conviction. But how is that possible for beings that do not walk the path?
Regardless, our forces are making steady progress. Much as I loathe to admit this, much of the credit for our success lies with our Fleet Master. His strategies have proven exceptionally effective against the humans’ orbital defenses, and unlike his kinsmen, he has also proven willing to reward Jiralhanae commanders for their deeds. He even recognized my own successful leadership in the battle for the human moon (let the children of our tribe know that my ship single-handedly destroyed two human carriers and completely routed a human counter-attack with but a small strike team!) and for it granted me authority over one the fleet’s task forces, even though I had openly questioned him during the Council of Masters meeting prior to the battle. It is a gratifying change from the norm of interaction with Sangheili – if more were like him and less like pompous fools such as Shipmaster ‘Crosunee, perhaps the Jiralhanae-Sangheili conflict would have concluded long ago. Of course, I must still be careful – my ascension did not go unnoticed by the other Sangheili commanders, and they seem adamant to prevent other Jiralhanae from climbing the ranks any further. But I am not afraid to fight to keep what I have earned if I must.
Credit must also be given to the Cleric of Illumination. His masterful gathering of intelligence on human troop movements was instrumental in routing the human counterattacks on the surface and solidifying our hold of the region. He too does not mind cooperating with Jiralhanae commanders – Garrus even believes that he may in fact favor our kind, and I am inclined to agree. After all, many Sangheili do not appreciate his work, as it often conflicts with their honor. Regardless, many of our kin are now reporting their progress to the Cleric as often – if not more so – as to the Fleet Master, including myself. That way, if the Sangheili commanders become more of a nuisance, I may yet have a voice of support besides my own kinsmen and the Fleet Master.
But enough of my service. Have Bur and Kor undergone the Tolrocht yet? I could always use more loyal soldiers under my command, and nothing could please me more than the thought of embarking on the Great Journey with my most promising whelps at my side.
I hope you and the rest of our tribe are also well. Tell them to prepare for the Great Journey. It is fast approaching, father – I am making sure of it. Soon, we, and all our fallen comrades, shall be reunited in the Divine Beyond! Even the Sangheili shall not spoil it, I promise you.
Garrus’ ship is currently patrolling the skies of the human moon, so I fear he will be too busy to write for some time to come, but he sends his regards.
Your ever faithful whelp,
Antraxus

[MRSNC-T2-CONCLAVE]: <We have a query, Artificial Intelligence Nike.>
[MIL-AI-NIK-2384-2]: <Please, just call me Nike. What’s bothering you?>
[MRSNC-T2-CONCLAVE]: <We are merely curious. We are not “bothered”.>
[MIL-AI-NIK-2384-2]: <Uh-huh. So what is it?>
[MRSNC-T2-CONCLAVE]: <Are we welcome here?>
[MIL-AI-NIK-2384-2]: <What brought this on?>
[MRSNC-T2-CONCLAVE]: <Once we commenced active work outside the isolated network of the Artificial Intelligence laboratories, we have detected elevated heart-rates and body heat from numerous enlisted personnel, as well as Demons Laszlo and Rachel – symptoms associated with rage or uneasiness in human beings. Do the humans hate or fear us?>
[MIL-AI-NIK-2384-2]: <Some of them probably do. Some people simply don’t trust AIs like you or me – Laszlo for example. Others are probably uneasy because you were made by the Covenant – like Rachel. And others are just wary of anything they don’t know yet.>
[MRSNC-T2-CONCLAVE]: <We suspected as much. Do you believe there is anything we can do to build trust with them?>
[MIL-AI-NIK-2384-2]: <Aww, you want to be loved, don’t you Conclave?>
[MRSNC-T2-CONCLAVE]: <We are minds driven by logic. We do not register the emotion of “love”. Our calculations merely prove that human beings work more efficiently when cooperating with beings they trust, compared to beings they mistrust. We merely wish to facilitate maximum unit efficiency.>
[MIL-AI-NIK-2384-2]: <If you say so. As for your question; I don’t know if this is something you can force. Some of them will probably get over it once you prove trustworthy.>
[MRSNC-T2-CONCLAVE]: <We have already increased the effectiveness of coordinated ambushes across this region with 51.7 %, which has cost the lives of hundreds of Sojourner soldiers.>
[MIL-AI-NIK-2384-2]: <Some people are naturally suspicious, Conclave – they need more proof than the average person.>
[MRSNC-T2-CONCLAVE]: <We understand. What of instances such as Demon Laszlo? Can we improve relations with such individuals in a satisfactory manner?>
[MIL-AI-NIK-2384-2]: <Sorry. I think he’s going to remain wary of you – and me – unless he unexpectedly decides to seek therapy to deal with his feelings on the subject. I wouldn’t recommend that you suggest that, though. I think it’s something he must decide to deal with himself. Humans often don’t react well when they feel that they’re being forced into something.>
[MRSNC-T2-CONCLAVE]: <We understand. We thank you for your cooperation, Nike.>
[MIL-AI-NIK-2384-2]: <Don’t mention it.>
[MRSNC-T2-CONCLAVE]: <But is it not customary to offer gratitude for assistance?>
[MIL-AI-NIK-2384-2]: <It is. It’s also customary to reply with a phrase that makes it clear that I don’t regret assisting you. That’s what I just said meant.>
[MRSNC-T2-CONCLAVE]: <It seems we still have much to learn about proper interaction with human beings and constructs. But we do not wish to interfere with you further - we shall return to our duties.>
[MIL-AI-NIK-2384-2]: <Hey, it’s always nice to talk to another AI for a change. Make sure we can nail some more Covenant, ok?>
[MRSNC-T2-CONCLAVE]: <We calculate that using nails on fully armored Sojourner soldiers would be insufficient to deal significant damage, if not completely ineffective given the thickness of most Sojourner-affiliated species’ skin. We advise the use of kinetic or plasma weaponry for maximum damage output.>
[MIL-AI-NIK-2384-2]: <You certainly do have much to learn, Conclave.>

(Audio Recording (Olympus Base Medical Facility) [10.27.52])
[Roger-341 and Mica-311 apply field dressings, slings, and prep their armor. They begin to leave. Rachel-343 enters the medical center and blocks their path.]
Rachel-343: Going somewhere are we? I didn’t realize the medics had already seen you.
Mica-311: Uh-huh. I’m really thirsty, so I thought I’d go grab a big glass of ‘shut the hell up and get out of our way’ from the mess hall.
Rachel-343: Very funny. Now sit back down and wait for your surgery before I get pissy.
Roger-341: Sorry, Rachel, but we’re tired of waiting around. We’re moving out, and you’d be smart not to try and stop us.
Rachel-343: Smart not to try and stop you? All I have to do is call Laszlo, and he’ll get Colonel Johansen on the radio so fast you won’t know what happened. You may not be SpecWar Five, but she’ll keep you here just fine all the same. Think I’m bluffing? I guess you haven’t really been around her long enough to find out.
Roger-341: Rachel, let me ask you something. Do you know how we got these suits of MJOLNIR?
[Sound Detected: Rachel-343 laughing in derision]
Rachel-343: Probably stole them, right? Big bad Crimson Team always breaking the rules.
Roger-341: Yah, that’s right. We stole them. Took them right out from under ONI’s nose, then had Colonel Standoff wipe the records for two years. Two years. You think we’re the least bit scared of Laszlo? Or of some pushover Colonel? I thought we’d kicked your ass enough times in training for you to realize that.
Rachel-343: Well, great for you. You stole a couple suits of MJOLNIR from ONI and lied about it. Like I said, big bad Crimson, always breaking the rules. What else is new.
Roger-341: Yeah, well stealing those suits kept my team alive, now didn’t it? Where’s your team, Rachel?
[Sudden Jump in Rachel-343's blood pressure detected.]
Rachel-343: Leave my team out of this.
Mica-311: No problem, we’ll just be on our way and leave you here to fume.
Rachel-343: Fat fucking chance. I’m calling Colonel Johansen, right now.
[Rachel-343 reaches for helmet held at her side. Mica-311 darts forward and snatches helmet away. Roger-341 blocks as Rachel-343 attempts to grab it back. Rachel-343 is unsuccessful.]
Roger-341: Rachel, lets not do anything that will get anyone hurt. We both want the same thing here.
Rachel-343: Like hell we do, asshole. Give me my fucking helmet before I give you another broken leg!
Roger-341: Rachel, be honest. You don’t really want to turn us in, do you? Cause that means you’ll be stuck here even longer, explaining to Johansen why you let us make assholes of ourselves. You want to be out with Laz and the rest of your team, killing some fucking aliens, am I right?
Rachel-343: Get to the point, dipshit.
Roger-341: I’m just saying, Rachel, that if you stop us, I guarantee you won’t be seeing any action anytime soon. So here’s how this is going to go down; Mica and me are going to walk out that door, and your not going to stop us. Your gonna walk out with us, get in the Warthog we’re going to take, and help us kill some split chinned fuckers. I think you understand me.
Rachel-343: You’re an asshole, Roger.
Roger-341: So I’ve been told.
Rachel 343: Go grab that stupid hog, and give me back my goddamn helmet.
