"Ah, my favourite kind of ship to fight; the little ones."
―Anonymous Navy Commander

The smallest and lightest destroyer in the UNSC’s fleet, the Oberon-class Light Destroyer is an agile and predatory hunter, and probably the truest successor to the original Destroyers from Earth’s naval history. A highly independent vessel, it operates free of the usually wolf pack mentality of similar escort ships, and uses long range communication systems and sensors to operate far from other ships. It is used to hound and bully smaller vessels, attacking pirates, smugglers, and the like, as well as commerce raiding. These ships are considered a part of system and sector defence, but do sometimes find their way into fleet actions as part of defensive or offensive screening.
