Mubiru-B286, born Mubiru Ochieng Rashad, or simply 'Mubi', was a SPARTAN-III commando of Beta Company active in the Human-Covenant War. Due to his incredibly high performance among his peers in training, distinguishing himself as one of the top trainees in his company, Mubiru was pulled from his Beta prior to their devastation in Operation: TORPEDO and placed onto Team Daffodil. While initially disheartened by his removal from Fireteam Yankee, and severely impacted by the news of TORPEDO, he would eventually grow to see Daffodil as his family as he had Yankee. On the team Mubiru would operate largely as a forward scout given his affinity for reconnaissance and non-conventional warfare, becoming an indispensable to the team through its many years of service. In addition to his combat capability, Mubiru's demeanor was also a boon to the team's morale even in the harshest battles of the war.

―Mubiru's mother as he was pressed aboard an evacuation shuttle, without her or his father
Mubiru, affectionately called 'Mubi' by his family and friends, came into the world as the first child of refugees, with his parents being survivors of the glassing of Harlan in 2531. His early years were spent playing with other refugee children, and attending school at makeshift learning center set up for refugees. Even at the tender age of four, it was clear that Mubiru was special. He read, wrote, and performed arithmetic at a level far above those of his peers, and whenever a sport was played, his team was sure to win.
His parents adored him, and heaped praise upon the son that had become the source of light in their particularly dark lives. Mubiru's parents worked almost non-stop at various odd jobs, refusing to resort to criminal activity to make ends meet in order to set an example for their child. Their hope was that Mubi would follow their example and take the righteous path in life, and in addition to setting a good example, the insured he was involved in their faith of Islam.
While Mubiru soaked up his parents adoration and lessons, he was still a child, and with his natural charisma often wrangled other children into joining him into forays into Camber City in spite of their parent's forbidding it. The refugee children were looked down upon, and on one occasion the group of children were even attacked with rocks.
In spite of the negativity towards him and his fellow refugees, Mubiru's shining optimism never faded, until the fateful day the Covenant arrived. Under the command of a devastatingly efficient commander, the alien forces all but annihilated the defenses of the planet, and proceeded to exterminate almost all of the residents.
Mubiru however, was not among the dead. Even as his extended family fell around him, an uncle being ripped apart by needler shards in front of him, and his grandfather being decapitated while shielding him, Mubiru and his parents managed to survive. They rushed him through the city, his father, who unbeknownst to Mubiru had been a prolific carjacker on Harlan, stole a Genet and raced his wife and child to the last remaining evacuation site.
Once there the couple found the shuttle all but full, and with no other option, they thrust Mubiru aboard alone, with but a few parting words before the craft flew away. Mubiru was distraught, and his wailing elicited the ire of another survivor who, consumed in her emotions, struck the child repeatedly until another new orphan intervened. The girl threw herself between Mubi and the woman, shielding him from a kick before the woman snapped out of it and hid away on the craft.
The girl was one Mubiru recognized, her name was Pratima, and the two had encountered one another during one of his excursions into the city. Both newly orphaned, the children relied on one another for support when both were placed into an orphanage on Reach. Weeks would pass before a mysterious woman came and offered the two children a chance to even the score against the Covenant, and while Mubiru was hesitant, he hastily accepted upon hearing Pratima had jumped at the chance, not wanting to be separated from his only friend.

Mubiru-B286: "I'm just not like the others I guess."
