The M808B5 Anti-Infantry Main Battle Tank, nicknamed the Fire Ant for obvious reasons, was a variation of the M808 Scorpion tank. Like previous variants such the Sun Devil and the Tarantula, the Fire Ant was built off of the M808B chassis, allowing for easy rearmament. Most M808B5s were marked with a large orange stripe on each front tread, as the variant’s exterior otherwise looked nearly identical to the base M808B.
Although rare in comparison to the standard M808B, the Fire Ant was employed often on both sides of the Insurrection due to its psychological effect on the enemy. It saw limited use during the Human-Covenant War, with most M808B5s being converted back into standard M808Bs. Fire Ants were to play a major role in Operation: BLUE SPIRIT, had it occurred. As a variant of the M808B, the Fire Ant was retired from service and replaced with the M820 Scorpion in the post-war era.
