- "Must of been close to 2am when we heard somebody hit the outer perimeter. They attempted to crawl under the wire, thinking it was just normal barbed wire. Then it exploded as they pushed it. Innie sapper was screaming because he lost all the fingers on his hand."
- ―Anonymous UNSC Marine
M311 Detonation Cord is a UNSC device used for detonation explosives, precision explosive work or booby traps.
Det Cord has a great number of uses, such as being wrapped around multiple explosive charges to ensure simultaneous detonation, as it explodes at a rate of 5 miles a second, or being used for small scale demolition purposes, such as opening doors, destroying locks, breeching thin walls, destroying cables or pipes, or fixing it with motion sensitive charges and pulled taunt, creating explosive booby traps and perimeter wire.
The cable consists of an outer plastic cable stuffed with high explosive. Relatively simple to use and arm, it is transported in spools of 20 meters and can be wound tied and cut like regular cable. It can be fitted with detonation caps to blow it, but it can also be detonated by being tied to larger explosive charges. It not reactive to heat or shock however. It can be stretched taunt and attached to a motion sensitive det cap, that explodes as soon as the cable is move or disrupted, rarely killing to the disrupter, but wounding them sufficiently to remove them from combat.
