UNSC ammunition ships were hardy ships specifically configured to transport munitions and perform underway replenishment operations. The requirements for ammunition transport and resupply remained mostly consistent beyond the addition of munitions for magnetic accelerator cannons and nuclear weapons in 2290 and 2425, respectively.

UNSC Safeguard[]

The UNSC Safeguard was commissioned in 2075 by the UNOOSA as the organization's sole authorized ammunition transport. The Safeguard served without incident for its entire career; the ammunition ship, while present at several major actions, was never directly attacked by enemy forces. The Safeguard was decommissioned in 2191 and sold for scrap. (770 meters)

UNSC Foundation[]

The UNSC Foundation was commissioned in 2110. Originally intended to support the Mars Fleet and Belt forces, the Foundation became the primary ammunition transport of the UNSA from 2112 to 2136, regularly deploying to the outer system. The ammunition ship accompanied the UNSA relief fleet that traveled to Jovian Space in May 2160 and was present for several major engagements of the Interplanetary War. The Foundation was targeted by Frieden forces during the Jovian Action in 2165, but enemy forces were never able to actually damage the ammunition ship. The Foundation survived the war and was decommissioned in 2223 and sold for scrap. (923 meters)

UNSC Precautionary[]

The UNSC Precautionary was commissioned in 2124. The ammunition ship spent most of its career in Jovian Space with occasional deployments to Saturnian Space. The Precautionary was targeted repeatedly during the Europa Whirlwind in 2167 but escaped with minimal damage. The ammunition ship was decommissioned in 2225 and sold for scrap. (716 meters)

UNSC Discipline[]

The UNSC Discipline was commissioned in 2136 and immediately replaced the Foundation as the UNSA's primary ammunition carrier. Larger and more heavily armed and armored than previous ammunition ships, the Discipline saw considerable action during the Interplanetary Conflict. The Discipline was decommissioned in 2227 and sold for scrap. (1,362 meters)

UNSC Preventive Measures[]

The UNSC Preventive Measures was commissioned in 2146. The Preventive Measures was decommissioned and scrapped in 2231. (912 meters)

UNSC Ticonderoga[]

The UNSC Ticonderoga was commissioned in 2156 and was placed in reserve in 2270. (931 meters)

UNSC Jovian Daybreak[]

The UNSC Jovian Daybreak was an ammunition ship during the Interplanetary Conflict. Originally the incomplete Koslovic support ship Red Dawn Rising, it was captured by UGR troops on Ganymede in 2160 and handed over to the UNSA for use as a large auxiliary. The UNSA completed the ship as an ammunition carrier and utilized it throughout the war. The Jovian Daybreak was decommissioned and scrapped in 2175. (703 meters)

Battle of 4 Vesta-class[]

The Battle of 4 Vesta-class were ordered in the 2210s to replace the aging ammunition ships of the Interplanetary War-era. Each ammunition ship was named for a battle from the Belt Campaign of the Interplanetary Conflict. The class served as the primary ammunition ship of the UNSC well into the 2400s and found further use as miscellaneous support ships. The class was retired in the 2400s, with two going into reserve and the rest decommissioned and scrapped by 2489. (1,214 meters)

Battle of 588 Achilles-class[]

The Battle of 588 Achilles-class were ordered in the 2290s following the Naval Compromise of 2290 as the UNSC's first ammunition ships built to transport MAC slugs. The class was originally scheduled for decommissioned in the 2490s, but the spread of the Insurrection and growing security concerns kept the ammunition ships in service until after the end of the Human-Covenant War in the 2550s. Seven were destroyed during the Sol Campaign. (1,476 meters)

UNSC Black Tortoise of the North[]

The UNSC Black Tortoise of the North was the first interstellar ammunition ship of the fleet and was commissioned in 2393. (1,889 meters)

UNSC cargo ships were tasked with the transportation of equipment, supplies, and materials.

UNSC Dawn[]

The UNSC Dawn was commissioned in 2089 as the first cargo ship of the UN Space Authority. The Dawn ordered by the UNSA in 2086 and was based on the ASC-55 cargo ships already in use across the system. The light cargo ship served in the fleet until it was decommissioned in 2172 and sold to a historic society. (411 meters)

UNSC Terminus[]

The UNSC Terminus was commissioned in 2098 as part of the purchase of TSL ships by the Space Authority. Originally an ASC-88 cargo ship, the Terminus had been subsequently heavily modified by Titan Space Logistics in 2193 for greater speed and expanded passenger space. The Terminus remained in service until its destruction by Frieden forces in 2165 during the Jupiter Campaign. (799 meters)

UNSC Totem[]

The UNSC Totem was commissioned in 2098 as part of the purchase of TSL ships by the Space Authority. The Totem, much like the Terminus, was a heavily modified ASC-88 cargo ship; TSL halved the capacity of the cargo ship and installed a custom hanger bay for transporting inspection craft. The Totem was destroyed by Frieden forces in 2165 during the Jupiter Campaign. (701 meters)

Resolution 9065 cargo ships[]

Main article: Resolution 9065 ships#Cargo ships

Under UNSC Resolution 9065, six-hundred-and-twenty-four civilian cargo ships were requisitioned for service from March 2160 to March 2170.

Candor-class[]

The Candor-class heavy cargo ships began entering service in late 2161 after being ordered in May 2160 during the Jovian Crisis. Sometimes inaccurately referred to as a modification of the existing SF2160 freighter design, the Candor heavy cargo ships were instead an entirely revised and reorganized design and were used as the basis for the later SF2162 freighters. More than 500 meters longer than the earlier SF2160 freighters, the Candor-class were among the fast logistics ships available at the time of their commissioning. In all, twenty-two Candor-class heavy cargo ships were commissioned during the Interplanetary War between 2161 and 2164, and eight were lost to enemy action by 2170. The remaining ships remained in service until the 2250s and 2260s, when they were effectively replaced by the Lacus Autumni-class. (1,610 meters)

Allied Prudence-class[]

The Allied Prudence-class attack cargo ships were commissioned in 2162 after being ordered in late 2160. The trio of attack cargo ships were a first for the UN Space Authority and were intended as being capable of transporting and deploying troops against hostile targets throughout the system. Based on an extensively modified SF2160 design, the Allied Purpose-class featured a mix of artillery, missiles, and point defenses, as well as reinforcement of the hull in areas deemed vulnerable. Entering service too late to be of use during the Battle of Vesta, the class was initially used as armed cargo ships and were permitted to operate in the Belt, Jovian Space, and even the Trojans without escorts. Of the three, only Allied Principles was available during the Battle of the Martian Moons and proved the class was capable of supporting assault operations. Despite this success, the trio spent much of the rest of the war primarily in convoy operations as better-than-average armed cargo ships. This came to an end in 2169 and all three ships subsequently took part in the Trojan Offensive in January 2170. While effective, the class was deemed expensive to maintain and unnecessary in a fleet including assault carriers, and were placed in reserve in the 2190s. (1,136 meters)

  • UNSC Allied Prudence (2162 - 2193)
  • UNSC Allied Purpose (2162 - 2191)
  • UNSC Allied Principles (2163 - 2196)

UNSC Venturesome[]

The UNSC Venturesome was commissioned in 2163. Ordered by the UNSA in 2160 as a purpose-built armed heavy cargo ship, the Venturesome was based on a heavily modified SF2162 freighter design. The Venturesome served with distinction at Mars and Jupiter and was decommissioned in 2297. (1,912 meters)

UNSC Triangulum[]

The UNSC Triangulum was commissioned in 2164. Like the Venturesome, the Triangulum was ordered by the UNSA in 2162 as a purpose-built armed heavy cargo ship. The Triangulum saw action in the Belt and Jovian Space and was decommissioned in 2308. (1,985 meters)

Napoleon Bonaparte-class[]

The Napoleon Bonaparte-class heavy cargo ships were purchased from CMS in 2166. While the class suffered heavy losses during the war, the survivors remained in service until the 2290s; designated strategic logistics ships, all were placed in reserve. (2,580 meters)

UNSC combat support ships are the backbone of mobile operations, providing critical underway replenishment for battle groups and expeditionary fleets throughout UEG space.

UNSC Brigadier[]

The UNSC Brigadier began service as the Long-Range Patrol Depot Ship (LRPDS), a civilian-operated support ship contracted by the UNOOSA for supporting customs enforcement in the belt. Following the inauguration of the UNSA, the new Authority purchased the ship outright and heavily modified it before commissioning it under its new name in 2085. Brigadier spent most of its career in the belt, outsized and outclassed by its formidable successors. The combat support ship saw action at Juno and later during the Siege of Ceres. Brigadier was decommissioned and scrapped in June 2170, just a few months after the end of hostilities. (621 meters)

UNSC Sergeant-at-Arms[]

The UNSC Sergeant-at-Arms was originally envisioned as a destroyer depot ship but was ultimately classified as a combat support ship when it was commissioned in 2105. While undiscovered until 2166, the arrival of the Sergeant-at-Arms at Ceres in late 2159 preempted a would-be uprising of anti-Koslovics. This event aside, the combat support ship had an uneventful career until the Interplanetary War, where it saw considerable action throughout the belt. Sergeant-at-Arms was decommissioned in 2180 and sold to the Lunar Naval Museum in 2181. (535 meters)

UNSC Cicero[]

The UNSC Cicero was commissioned by the UNSA in 2112. Built alongside the light cruiser Caesar, the Cicero was intended as a high-speed cruiser depot ship and was capable of resupplying multiple cruisers while on deployment. The Cicero was deployed to Mars with the Expeditionary Fleet in December 2163 as part of Operation: LEVIATHAN. The combat support ship took part in the Battle of the Martian Moons in March 2164, where it was irreparably damaged by Frieden forces. The Cicero was declared damaged beyond repair and withdrawn from frontline service; the combat support ship subsequently was stationed in lunar orbit as a Lunar Patrol support ship. The Cicero was decommissioned in 2166 and sold for scrap. (916 meters)

UNSC Constitution[]

The UNSC Constitution was commissioned in 2121. Much like the Cicero, the Constitution was built alongside the light cruiser Eagle and was intended to support fleet operations. The combat support ship took part in Operation: SUPREMACY and was present for the Europa Whirlwind; the Constitution saw further action at the Siege of Ceres and the Trojan Offensive. The Constitution was decommissioned in 2299. (1,033 meters)

UNSC Viceroy[]

The UNSC Viceroy was commissioned in 2128 and was damaged beyond repair in 2170. (1,024 meters)

UNSC Arsenal[]

UNSC command ships were dedicated flagships for fleet and commanders, providing communications, planning and office space, and accommodations for officers and staff to coordinate activities and operations.

UNSC The Emperor[]

The UNSC The Emperor was the first command ship of the United Nations Space Command (UNSC). Originally built for and commissioned by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) as the Command One in 2065, the ship had served as the mobile headquarters for colonization efforts in the Sol system. During this service, the command ship acquired its first nickname, "The Emperor". With the creation of the United Nations Space Authority (UNSA) in 2080, the ship was officially renamed as such. The Emperor outlived even the UNSA, remaining in service during the Interplanetary War under the banner of the UNSC. During its long life, the command ship gained other affectionate nicknames: The Old Man (2121), Old Dominion (2144), The Executive (2164), Old HQ (2169), and Mister Venerable (2179). The Emperor was finally retired in 2182 and was taken apart and reassembled on Luna as a permanent exhibition for the Lunar Naval Museum. (1,088 meters)

UNSC Mount Olympus[]

The UNSC Mount Olympus was, like The Emperor, originally a colonial command ship for the UNOOSA. The Command Two, commissioned in 2067, was similarly renamed to its nickname of Mount Olympus following the creation of the UNSA. The Mount Olympus became the administrative flagship of the UNSA until its decommissioning, serving the fleet as the mobile logistics headquarters. The command ship acquired a host of nicknames like its compatriot: Zeus (2119), The Throne (2133), and The Bastards on High (2164). The Mount Olympus followed The Emperor into UNSC service and was retired shortly after the war. The command ship was decommissioned in 2180 and sold to the Jovian Museum of Space History. (1,079 meters)

UNSC Magnificent Desolation[]

The UNSC Magnificent Desolation first entered service in 2079 as a security ship before being classified as a destroyer in 2105 and finally reclassified as a lunar command ship in 2111. The Magnificent Desolation was the flagship of the UNSA Lunar Force from 2111 until its decommissioning in 2198. (455 meters)

UNSC Atlantis[]

The UNSC Atlantis was commissioned in 2136 as the UNSA regional command ship for Jovian Space. The Atlantis was placed in reserve in 2297. (598 meters)

UNSC Musashi[]

The UNSC Musashi was commissioned in 2163 as an assault command ship. The Musashi coordinated the assault on Argyre Planitia in December 2163, and was directly involved in every major ODST operation during the Interplanetary War. The Musashi was decommissioned in 2256. (976 meters)

UNSC Voltaire[]

The UNSC Voltaire was commissioned in 2164. The Voltaire was the mobile nerve center of the UNSC Logistical Operations Command from its commission until its retirement in 2398. (1,170 meters)

UNSC Xerxes[]

The UNSC Xerxes was commissioned in 2166. Originally intended as a compatriot to the Musashi, the Xerxes instead became the Europa Theatre flagship for the duration of the Interplanetary War. Following the end of the war, the command ship was repurposed as the Outer System flagship. The Xerxes was decommissioned in 2292. (721 meters)

UNSC Zuikaku[]

The UNSC Zuikaku was commissioned in 2168. The Zuikaku was heavily armored and armed, intended to closely support asteroid assaults and provide UNICOM with a mobile command center. The Zuikaku saw considerable action during the Trojan Offensive in 2170. While successful, the Zuikaku was judged to be an unnecessary component and was decommissioned in 2191. (658 meters)

UNSC Upholder of Virtue[]

The UNSC Upholder of Virtue was commissioned in 2202 as the new administrative flagship of the UNSC. The command ship served in that capacity for more than two centuries and was only retired after the Fleet became increasingly interstellar during the Inner Colony Wars. The Upholder of Virtue was decommissioned in 2407 and scrapped. (1,046 meters)

UNSC United Nations[]

One of the original Vindication-class heavy battleships, the UNSC United Nations was extensively modified in the decades following its 2189 commission. The battleship was eventually reclassified as a command battleship in 2233. The United Nations was decommissioned in 2416 and placed in reserve. (1,854 meters)

UNSC Azure Dragon of the East[]

The UNSC Azure Dragon of the East was commissioned in 2399 as the UNSC's first interstellar multirole command ship. (1,828 meters)

UNSC Herald of Dawn[]

The UNSC Herald of Dawn was commissioned as a UNSC command ship in 2528 on the instructions of Vice Admiral Cole. Formerly an Odyssey-class colonial flagship of the same name, Cole selected the ship specifically and ordered extensive modifications. Herald of Dawn became the workhorse of Cole's support units, leading auxiliary task forces and coordinating supply lines for Cole's battle groups in the Outer Colonies. Herald of Dawn was attached to Cole until his death at Psi Serpentis in 2543; the command ship would serve a variety of roles for the next five years until its destruction in 2548. (3,575 meters)

Superintendent-class[]

Main article: Superintendent-class command ship

The Superintendent-class command ships were built by the Colonial Administration Authority in the 2420s. Both the CAA Superintendent and the CAA Secretary-General were requisitioned by the UNSC in the 2530s; Superintendent was damaged beyond repair and scuttled in 2547, and Secretary-General was destroyed by Covenant forces in 2551. (2,488 meters)

UNSC communications relay ships were equipped and staffed to support and coordinate fleet communications over tremendous distances. Requiring enormous reactors to power shore or station equivalent communication systems, relay ships were expected to handle a huge volume of communications traffic and boost outgoing messages to their intended recipients.

Reliance-class[]

The Reliance-class communications relay ships were commissioned by the UNOOSA as part of the colonial programs of the 2060s and 2070s. Originally the Relay One-class, each ship was renamed following the transfer to the UNSA. The class became redundant with the development of colonial waystations and builtup communications infrastructure, and thus the class became entirely for the use of UNSA communications. The class was still in use during the Interplanetary Wars, though retirement loomed in the immediate postwar era. (1,007 meters)

UNSC Akatsuki[]

The UNSC Akatsuki was commissioned in 2100. Built by Hayashi, the Akatsuki was originally envisioned as a control and coordination ship for Kyoto destroyers; upon commission, however, the UNSA used the ship as a fast communications ship for the outer system. It was joined by the Hibernia in 2148, though the Akatsuki remained primarily in Jovian Space. The Akatsuki was placed in reserve in 2190. (509 meters)

UNSC Hibernia[]

The UNSC Hibernia was commissioned in 2148 and spent most of its career in the outer system, mostly in Saturnian Space. The Hibernia was decommissioned in 2276. (743 meters)

UNSC AME Voyager[]

The UNSC AME Voyager was commissioned in 2163. Requisitioned from American Merchant Express (AME), the AME Voyager was used initially to coordinate the movement of troops and equipment to Mars. Thereafter, the Voyager was assigned to the Voltaire and remained an element of the logistics fleet until it was returned to AME in 2175. (986 meters)

UNSC The Devil You Know[]

The SF2157 communications ship UNSC The Devil You Know (964 meters) was commissioned in April 2164. The communications relay ship remained in UNSC service until 2197.

UNSC Major Tom[]

The modified SF2144 control ship UNSC Major Tom (855 meters) was commissioned in January 2166. The Major Tom survived the war and was decommissioned in 2196.

UNSC Das Oberland[]

The modified SF2160 relay ship UNSC Das Oberland (1,025 meters) was commissioned in November 2168. The Das Oberland survived the war and remained in UNSC service until 2212.

UNSC L Hailey Cooper[]

The UNSC L Hailey Cooper was commissioned in 2188, effectively rendering the already redundant Reliance-class obsolete. The L Hailey Cooper was named for an innovate and accomplished UNSC Air Force general and was the principal communications relay ship of the Home Fleet from its commission until 2501, undergoing several upgrades during its career. The interplanetary spaceship remained in service, however, and was transferred to the Office of Naval Intelligence for extensive reconstruction and employment as a special purpose intelligence ship. The L Hailey Cooper participated in the Sol Campaign in 2552, crucially jamming regional Covenant communications and inhibiting Covenant officers from effectively coordinating their forces in the Belt and outer system. (1,783 meters)

UNSC The Space Between[]

The UNSC The Space Between was commissioned as an interstellar communications relay ship in 2442. The official records of The Space Between during its service was remarkably uneventful and boring, despite the ship serving throughout the Insurrection and most of the Human-Covenant War. Postwar investigations revealed its original history for the sham that it was: The Space Between was variously designated in secret as a multipurpose cruiser, experimental prowler, signals ship, and research ship, all under the direct authority of the Office of Naval Intelligence. (977 meters)

UNSC destroyer tenders provided maintenance support for flotillas of destroyers and other escort ships.

UNSC Reverie[]

The UNSC Reverie was commissioned in 2082 as a fleet depot ship. The Reverie was reclassified as a destroyer tender in 2105 and remained in service until 2180; the tender was sold and preserved as a naval museum. (618 meters)

UNSC Rifleman[]

The UNSC Rifleman was commissioned as a security ship tender in 2093 and was relcassified as a destroyer tender in 2105. The Rifleman was irreparably damaged by Frieden forces in 2167 during the Battle of the Belt. (478 meters)

UNSC Renaissance[]

The UNSC Renaissance was commissioned in 2094. Originally designated as a fleet depot ship, the Renaissance was classified as a destroyer tender in 2105. The Renaissance remained in service until 2184. (544 meters)

Shinano-class[]

The Shinano-class destroyer tenders served the UNSA and UNSC from 2096 to 2187. Originally commissioned as the Shinano-class security ship tenders, the class was built by Hayashi Spacecraft alongside the Kyoto-class security ships. When the Space Authority reclassified most of its security ships as destroyers in 2105, the 20 ships of the Shinano-class were similarly reclassified as destroyer tenders. Six were lost to enemy action during the Interplanetary War. The remaining Shinano tenders remained in service as destroyer tenders into the 2180s; following the decommissioning of the last Kyoto destroyer in 2180, the class remained in service as both destroyer tenders and miscellaneous depot ships. (360 meters)

UNSC Arrowhead[]

The UNSC Arrowhead was commissioned in 2097 as a security ship tender. The Arrowhead was classified as a destroyer tender in 2105 and remained in service until 2180. (521 meters)

UNSC Duke[]

The UNSC Duke entered service in 2098. Originally a fleet depot ship, the Duke was classified as a destroyer tender in 2105 and remained in that role until it was irreparably damaged by Frieden forces in 2169 during the Battle of the Belt. (581 meters)

UNSC Destiny[]

The UNSC Destiny followed the Duke into service in 2100 as another fleet depot ship. Reclassified as a destroyer tender in 2105, the Destiny remained in active service until it was retired in 2180. (633 meters)

UNSC Blizzard[]

The UNSC Blizzard was commissioned in 2103. The last of the fleet depot ships to enter service, the Blizzard, like its peers, was reclassified as a destroyer tender in 2105. The Blizzard was destroyed by Frieden forces in 2168 during the Siege of Ceres. (701 meters)

UNSC Sharpshooter[]

The UNSC Sharpshooter was commissioned in 2106 and was decommissioned in 2192. (544 meters)

UNSC Saint Lawrence[]

THe UNSC Saint Lawrence was commissioned in 2110 alongside the new Halifax-class destroyers. The Saint Lawrence was the first of several unique destroyer tenders built that followed the style set by the earlier Shinano tenders of being named for rivers. The Saint Lawrence survived the war and was decommissioned in 2215. (617 meters)

UNSC Mackenzie[]

The UNSC Mackenzie was commissioned in 2114 and remained in service until 2210. (592 meters)

UNSC Prince[]

The UNSC Prince entered service in 2136 and was the first of the informally nicknamed "P-group large destroyer tenders". The Prince remained in service until 2242. (745 meters)

UNSC Patrician[]

The UNSC Patrician was commissioned in 2140 and was decommissioned in 2257. (760 meters)

UNSC Panther[]

The UNSC Panther was commissioned in 2144. The Panther was damaged beyond repair by Frieden forces in January 2170 during the Trojan Offensive. (702 meters)

UNSC Paramount[]

The UNSC Paramount was commissioned in 2152 and remained in service until 2263. (724 meters)

Tigris-class[]

The Tigris-class destroyer tenders began entering service in 2162. Twenty-four were ultimately completed. The class was ordered in August 2160 in the aftermath of the Jovian Moons Campaign, after fleet officers determined that the existing destroyer tenders had been insufficient to the needs of the destroyer flotillas during the crisis. The largest destroyer tenders of the Interplanetary Era, the Tigris-class measured 880 meters and were capable of supporting effectively any destroyer, frigate, or corvette in service during the Interplanetary War. The class remained active in the fleet long after the end of the war, with the last member, the Rhine, finally being decommissioned in 2301. (880 meters)

UNSC hospital ships were mobile medical facilities capable of treating hundreds to thousands of patients at a time and providing a considerable range of care. For most of the history of the UNSC Navy, hospital ships carried no weapons and were visually distinguishable from other UNSC space combatants. This practice came to a violent end with the outbreak of the Human-Covenant War as Covenant forces savagely attacked all UNSC and civilian ships without distinction.

UNSC Asclepius[]

Originally a medical research ship, the UNSC Asclepius was commissioned in 2115 by the UNSA. The Asclepius was decommissioned in 2176. (476 meters)

Human Kindness ships[]

Project: HUMAN KINDNESS was a public donation-funded endeavor that resulted in the construction and commissioning of five hospital ships. Human Kindness III was accidentally attacked by Frieden forces in 2164, for which the Jovian-based organization issued a rare apology. The hospital ships suffered no other attacks for the rest of the war and were decommissioned in the 2230s.

  • UNSC Human Kindness (2122 — 2235) (546 meters)
  • UNSC Human Kindness II (2131 — 2237) (572 meters)

  • UNSC Universal Goodwill (2152 — 2239) (701 meters)

UNSC Telesphorus[]

The UNSC Telesphorus was commissioned in April 2160. A privately funded medical research platform, the Telesphorus was considered for purchase by the UNSA before being donated to the organization in 2160. Following its commission, the Telesphorus became the first mobile medical platform of the Authority. Telesphorus was assigned to Luna for the duration of the fighting there, starting in 2162. In 2167, the Telesphorus was initially reassigned Jovian Space, but while underway, Frieden forces occupied Ceres and the medical platform was instead redeployed with UNSC response forces. Following the conclusion of the Siege of Ceres, the Telesphorus continued to Jovian Space where it spent the rest of the war. The platform resumed its original role as a medical research platform postwar. The UNSC Telesphorus was decommissioned in 2288. (688 meters)

UNSC Benevolence[]

The UNSC Benevolence was ordered during the Jovian Moons Campaign in March 2160 and was commissioned by the UNSA in early 2161. The 715-meter-long Benevolence served throughout the Interplanetary War. The hospital ship was retired in 2245. (715 meters)

UNSC Samaritan[]

The UNSC Samaritan was ordered in April 2160, less than a month after the Benevolence; the hospital ship was commissioned in July 2161. Samaritan was retired in 2247. (753 meters)

Sanctuary-class[]

The three Sanctuary-class hospital ships were ordered in late 2162 during the Inner System Crisis. The 655-meter-long hospital ships were present for many battles during the subsequent Interplanetary War. (655 meters)

  • UNSC Sanctuary (2163 — 2279)
  • UNSC Haven (2163 — 2276)
  • UNSC Refuge (2164 — 2281)

UNSC Eleemosynary[]

The UNSC Eleemosynary entered service in November 2163 and was the last and largest hospital ship commissioned by the UNSA. Eleemosynary dwarfed her predecessors at a staggering 1,587 meters long and carrying more than a thousand medical personnel. Eleemosynary, accompanied by Benevolence and Sanctuary, traveled with the Mars Expedition and was present for both the Battle of Mars and the Battle of the Martian Moons. Eleemosynary remained in service until 2289. (1,587 meters)

MSF ships[]

In the 2130s, a dozen small transports were built for the express purpose of providing mobile medical assistance throughout the system. Named for the founders of Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), all twelve were commissioned into the UNSC in 2164. No MSF ships were lost during the Interplanetary War, although Gerard Pigeon and Philippe Bernier suffered minor damage in the Belt. All but Xavier Emmanuelli were decommissioned in 2185 and sold to civilian interests or scrapped; Xavier Emmanuelli remained in service with the Saturn Expedition until its return to Jovian Space in 2231. The last MSF hospital ship was decommissioned and sold as a museum piece. (574 meters)

UNSC The City of Seven Hills[]

The UNSC The City of Seven Hills was commissioned in 2164. Ordered as an advanced medical and surgical research ship, it was completed as a hospital ship with prototypal surgical wards and laboratories. The The City of Seven Hills was decommissioned in 2315. (982 meters)

UNSC Scandinavia[]

The UNSC Scandinavia was commissioned in 2165. Both a mobile hospital and a medical research ship, the Scandinavia was involved in improving intensive care, infirmaries, and surgical units. The hospital ship was decommissioned in 2341. (1,070 meters)

UNSC Angel of Mercy[]

The 556-meter-long UNSC Angel of Mercy was commissioned in 2165 as a high-speed hospital ship. Sometimes called an evacuation transport or emergency relief ship, the Angel of Mercy was a common sight in the Belt during the Interplanetary War. The hospital ship was involved in many convoy operations and interventions. Angel of Mercy was decommissioned in 2286. (556 meters)

UNSC Intercessor[]

Built along the same lines as the Eleemosynary, the 1,200-meter-long UNSC Intercessor was commissioned in 2166. The hospital ship was decommissioned in 2302. (1,200 meters)

UNSC Merciful Intentions[]

The 1,000-meter-long UNSC Merciful Intentions was commissioned in 2168. The hospital ship served primarily in the belt, but was made available for the Trojan Offensive in 2170. Merciful Intentions was decommissioned in 2261. (1,000 meters)

UNSC Lotus[]

The UNSC Lotus was commissioned in 2168. Both a hospital and a medical research ship, the Lotus was involved in the development of zero-gravity therapies and rehabilitation treatments. The Lotus was decommissioned in 2321. (886 meters)

Relief-class[]

The 842-meter-long Relief-class hospital ships began entering service in early 2169. (842 meters)

UNSC Consolation[]

The 845-meter-long UNSC Consolation entered service in 2186. Originally ordered as the eighth Relief-class hospital ship, construction was paused in August 2170 and resumed with considerable modifications in 2174. Consolation was decommissioned in 2318. (845 meters)

UNSC Universal Goodwill[]

The UNSC Universal Goodwill was commissioned in 2242 as the premier hospital ship of the UNSC. Universal Goodwill was decommissioned in 2391. (1,442 meters)

Eleemosynary-class[]

The Eleemosynary-class hospital ships replaced the aging pre-war ships the UNSC had relied upon for almost a century. At 1,618 meters long, they outsized their predecessors and outmatched them in capabilities and capacity. (1,618 meters)

Solace-class[]

The Solace-class were the first interstellar hospital ships of the UNSC. Entering service during the Inner Colony Wars, the 2,500-meter-long Solace hospital ships were based on Phoenix-class colony ship hulls. With colony ships still in critical demand, the UEG approved the repurposing of only two Phoenix hulls for use as hospital ships. Both Solace-class hospital ships remained in service until their destruction during the Human-Covenant War in the 2530s. (2,500 meters)

Samaritan-class[]

The 1,400-meter-long Samaritan-class hospital ships began entering service in the late 2390s. Built throughout the Inner Colony Wars, the Samaritan hospital ships served for the duration and beyond. Originally intended to be retired in the 2490s, the outbreak of Insurrection kept the class in service. The class subsequently saw action during the Human-Covenant War; after heavy losses in the late 2520s, the remaining Samaritan, Intercessor, and Tranquility hospital ships were withdrawn from frontline service. Losses continued, however, and the last Samaritan hospital ship, the UNSC Haven, was destroyed by Covenant forces in 2550. (1,400 meters)

Intercessor-class[]

The Intercessor-class, sometimes called the Samaritan II-class, entered service in the 2430s. Essentially an upgraded version of the Samaritan design, the Intercessor hospital ships were 200 meters longer and marginally faster. Of the dozen members of the class, only the UNSC Benevolence survived the Human-Covenant War. (1,600 meters)

Tranquility-class[]

The Tranquility-class, sometimes called the Samaritan III-class, entered service in the 2470s. Only the Refuge and the Memory of Solferino survived the Human-Covenant War. (1,630 meters)

UNSC Hopeful[]

The UNSC Hopeful was commissioned in 2495 and was perhaps the most iconic hospital ship in the history of the UNSC. Originally constructed as a civilian medical platform from 2486 to 2491, the Hopeful was requisitioned by the UNSC and was significantly upgraded to become largest hospital ship ever commissioned. Hopeful was active throughout the Insurrection and the Human-Covenant War, seeing considerable action in both conflicts. Hopeful survived the war. (1,157 meters)

UNSC Ataraxy[]

The UNSC Ataraxy was commissioned in 2540. (2,117 meters)

UNSC Stalwart Fortitude[]

The UNSC Stalwart Fortitude was commissioned in 2050 by the UN Office of Outer Space Affairs. Predating the United Nations Space Command by over a hundred years, the 2200-meter-long Stalwart Fortitude was an immense mobile dockyard and the first commissioned for that purpose by the fledgling UNSC. The Stalwart Fortitude ceased operations as a mobile dockyard in 2293 and became the central hub of the UNSC's Martian Fleet Reserve. The ex-dockyard would eventually be partially dismembered in 2365, becoming the SF-1, SF-2, and SF-3 reserve docks.

Titan dockyards[]

The Titan dockyards were purchased from the bankrupt Titan Space Logistics and began entering service in 2099. (1,166 meters)

Tunguska-class[]

Main article: Tunguska-class mobile dockyard

The Tunguska-class was originally planned as a potential supercarrier class for the Colonial Military Administration, before being supplanted by the more powerful Punic design. Nevertheless, the CMA proceeded with construction, reworking the Tunguska carriers into enormous mobile dockyards. While only the first four started construction as supercarriers, a total of eighteen were ultimately built for both the CMA and the UNSC. The class performed well alongside refit stations during the Insurrection and the Human-Covenant War, although the class suffered frightful losses during the latter: only two survived the war.

UNSC Hephaestus[]

The UNSC Hephaestus was commissioned in November 2165. Previously a company repair ship of the same name, the Hephaestus was one of the Trojan Resources ships to flee the Jovian Trojans in September 2165. With the effective disintegration of Trojan Resources (TR), remaining company leadership turned over space assets for use by the UNSC. Hephaestus operated primarily in Jovian Space for the duration of the Interplanetary War and participated in the 2170 Trojan Offensive. The repair ship was decommissioned in 2241. (956 meters)

UNSC Briseis[]

The UNSC Briseis was commissioned in December 2165. Formerly a TR maintenance ship, the Briseis had been damaged while fleeing the Jovian Trojans and required repairs before being commissioned. Briseis remained in Jovian Space as a UNSC repair ship until being decommissioned in 2188. (730 meters)

Europa-class[]

The Europa-class repair ships were ordered during the costly and traumatic Battle of the Martian Moons. The six repair ships of the Europa design were larger, faster, and hardier than previous designs. Larger than the Ceres-class but more conservative than the sizable Nemausa, the Europa class was prioritized for completion, with the first pair entering service in 2165. Two were lost to enemy action during the war. The last of the class was decommissioned in 2211. (550 meters)

UNSC Hecatoncheires[]

The UNSC Hecatoncheires was commissioned in September 2166 as the largest repair ship in the fleet, a title it held for the duration of its service. Measuring 2,028 meters in length, the huge Hecatoncheires was instrumental in managing underway repairs during the Europa Whirlwind and the Trojan Offensive. The Hecatoncheires was eventually decommissioned in 2328. (2,028 meters)

Ausonia-class[]

Both Ausonia-class repair ships were commissioned in November 2166. (1,240 meters)

UNSC Nemausa[]

The UNSC Nemausa was commissioned in February 2167. Originally ordered in 2165 as a modification of the Ceres design. Intended as a multirole frontline salvage and recovery repair ship, the Nemausa was delayed repeatedly by changes in her design document. As a result, the repair ship was only completed in December 2169. Nemausa was available for the Trojan Offensive and saw considerable action throughout the campaign: when the repair ship was retired in 2193, the Nemausa became a permanent museum ship in the Jovian Trojans. (733 meters)

Cybele-class[]

The Cybele-class repair ships began entering service in August 2167. The last of the large Interplanetary War-era repair ships, the Cybele class remained in service well into the 2200s; the last member of the class was decommissioned in 2302. (946 meters)

The Okhotsk Plate-class remained in service after the war until the late 2380s. (1,837 meters)

UNSC Kerguelen Plateau[]

The UNSC Kerguelen Plateau was commissioned by the UNSA in 2159. Larger than even the earlier Eurasian Plate-class replenishment ships, the immense Kerguelen Plateau measured 2,100 meters and outsized nearly all of its contemporaries. Kerguelen Plateau was eventually outsized in 2167 by the super-heavy battleship UNSC Ares, though Ares subsequently lost the crown to the massive replenishment ship UNSC Towards Incomprehensibility in 2169. The Kerguelen Plateau was placed in reserve in 2422. (2,100 meters)

Europa Sunrise-class[]

The Europa Sunrise-class replenishment ships entered service in 2161. A quartet of high-speed replenishment ships, the Europa Sunrise class saw considerable use during the Interplanetary Conflict. Despite an outstanding performance record, the endless wear and tear on the ships resulted in shortened careers, with the last of the class, the Io Sunrise, being retired in 2173. (946 meters)

Arctic-class[]

The Arctic-class replenishment ships began entering service in 2162; a total of 32 Arctic ships were commissioned. (1,180 meters)

Resolution 9065 replenishment ships[]

Main article: Resolution9065#Replenishment ships

Six civilian ships were requisitioned by the UNSC for service as replenishment ships, including the Achilles the Warrior and the Warrior of Thrace. Of the six, one was damaged beyond repair in the belt in 2169; three were returned to their original operator, and the remaining two stayed in UNSC service until their retirement in the 2250s.

UNSC Achilles the Warrior[]

The UNSC Achilles the Warrior was commissioned in March 2166. One of the Trojan Resources refugee ships to escape the Trojans in September 2165, the Achilles the Warrior was transferred to the UNSC and commissioned as a replenishment ship. The Achilles the Warrior was decommissioned in 2292. (887 meters)

UNSC Vitality[]

The UNSC Vitality was commissioned in 2077 as a hydroponics research ship. Originally an ASC colonial support ship launched in 2066, the Vitality was substantially modified prior to its commissioning. In addition to its extensive hydroponics facilities, the research ship also possessed several laboratories. The Vitality is sometimes considered the forerunner of the scientific divisions of the United Nations Space Command. The research ship stayed out of harm's way during the crises of the early 2160s and the Interplanetary War. The Vitality was decommissioned in 2198 after 121 years of service. (1,400 meters)

UNSC Aristotle[]

The UNSC Aristotle was commissioned in 2112. The Aristotle was involved in electronic warfare research. The research ship was decommissioned in 2206. (1,280 meters)

UNSC Oblivion's Embrace[]

The UNSC Oblivion's Embrace was commissioned in 2161. Built alongside the survey ship Limitless Horizon and the tracking ship Astronavigator, all three ships took part in the 2162 Kuiper Expedition. The Oblivion's Embrace was decommissioned in 2296. (672 meters)

UNSC Teardrop[]

The UNSC Teardrop was commissioned in September 2164 in the aftermath of the bloody Battle of the Martian Moons. The Teardrop was involved in research on life support systems, fire suppression systems, and zero-gravity emergencies. The Teardrop was decommissioned and sold in 2236. (1,120 meters)

UNSC Exacting Standards[]

The UNSC Exacting Standards was commissioned in November 2164. Like the Teardrop, the Exacting Standards entered service in the shadow of the appalling losses at Deimos and Phobos. Dedicated to the development of robust emergency systems, hardier lifeboats, faster recovery systems, retrieval equipment, and vastly improved crew survival, the research ship directly contributed to lower personnel losses for the rest of the war. After a tremendously successful career, the Exacting Standards was retired in 2243. (1,480 meters)

UNSC Makeshift[]

The UNSC Makeshift was commissioned in December 2164. Previously the Koslovic attack ship Banner of the Emancipators, it was captured by UNSC forces during the Battle of Ceres in September. Methodically examined, it was commissioned into the fleet under the name Makeshift in reference to its apparent haphazard construction and questionable machinery and systems. Used initially to test the limits of Koslovic space capabilities, the research ship was regularly used in an opposing force role within the UNSC trials and experimentation flotilla. The Makeshift was ultimately expended as a target in 2173. (193 meters)

UNSC Sputnik[]

The UNSC Sputnik was commissioned in April 2165. One of the fleet's electronic warfare research ships, the Sputnik was specifically involved in the long-range subversion of enemy drones and buoys. The research ship did achieve several successes during the war, but Koslovic forces only rarely employed drones or buoys and those of the Frieden forces proved significantly more difficult to subvert. Nevertheless, the several systems developed by the Sputnik were employed during the Trojan Offensive to considerable effect, causing confusion and consternation within Frieden fleet elements. The Sputnik was decommissioned in 2195. (320 meters)

UNSC Little Victories[]

The UNSC Little Victories was commissioned in January 2166. Starting as early as April 2164, advocacy groups had taken the Admiralty to task for the ever-increasing strain placed on UNSC naval personnel and public pressure had only escalated with time. Finally capitulating to political pressure, the Little Victories was ordered in July 2165 for the express purpose of substantially improving crew conditions aboard UNSC spaceships. The research ship churned through dozens of experimental systems, proposed amenities, cost-effective entertainments, and minor adjustments to living conditions. The studies conducted on the Little Victories resulted in substantially better crew conditions throughout the fleet, with minor and major refits applied to escorts, cruisers, and capital ships alike. Having positively changed ship life in the fleet, the Little Victories was ultimately decommissioned in 2287 and sold for partial preservation and scrapping. (760 meters)

UNSC Styx[]

The UNSC Styx was commissioned in March 2166. The Styx was involved in the development and testing of anti-personnel weapons for ship security for counter-boarding actions as well as the examination and testing of captured enemy weaponry of similar purpose. Nicknamed the Killing Ship and the Reaper's Playground, the Styx contained extensive live-fire testing facilities that were repeatedly used by marines and ODSTs for advanced weapons training. The Styx was retired in 2259 and scrapped. (635 meters)

UNSC Marie-Louise[]

The UNSC Marie-Louise was commissioned in August 2166. The Marie-Louise was involved in developing and testing electronic warfare systems, especially decoys and jammers. While advancements came too late to reduce or prevent losses during the Europa Whirlwind, developments aboard the Marie-Louise were credited with greater ship survival during the Siege of Ceres and Trojan Offensive. The research ship was retired in 2197. (331 meters)

UNSC Sneak[]

The UNSC Sneak was commissioned in 2167. The first in a long line of stealth system research ships, the Sneak was ultimately only a minimally successful stealthy spacecraft. The Sneak was assigned to the new Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) in 2179 alongside the Laconia as part the newly invigorated ONI stealth program. The research ship remained an active element of the program flotilla until its decommissioning in 2212. As with the other ships of the flotilla, most of the activities involving the Sneak remain deliberately vague or otherwise classified. (71 meters)

UNSC East of the Horizon[]

The UNSC East of the Horizon was commissioned in 2167. The first modular mission ship of the fleet, the research ship was tasked with testing the viability of rapidly swapping internal modules in accordance with variable mission profiles. While the concept was popular within UN and UEG political circles, actual implementation resulted invalidated the concept at the time. Module swapping was neither easy nor fast, and newly installed modules were often temperamental and required regular refits in order to provide even basic capabilities. Despite extensive difficulties, the East of the Horizon continued to soldier on with full backing from the Admiralty. Unofficially, it was concluded that Naval Command knew by 2169 that the concept was an abject failure but refused to cancel it to prevent political accusations that the Admiralty had prematurely killed a technology they opposed. The East of the Horizon was finally decommissioned in 2196 and sold for scrap. (1,200 meters)

UNSC Knuckleduster[]

The UNSC Knuckleduster was commissioned in 2167. Described at times as an experimental assault carrier or attack transport, the Knuckleduster was effectively an ODST research ship, and its design had even been influenced by recommendations by Nolan Nyhammer. The Knuckleduster worked to better ODST insertion pods, pod launchers and deployment systems, assault craft, boarding action systems and protocols, and ODST and insertion pod retrieval and recovery. The research ship also acted as a de facto mothership for a small flotilla of experimental assault craft which presumably contributed to its popular misidentification as an experimental carrier. The Knuckleduster was decommissioned in 2248. (1,645 meters)

UNSC Zenobia[]

The UNSC Zenobia was commissioned in 2167. The Zenobia was involved in the development of offensive laser weaponry. While the program did produce some effective results, the power demands of laser batteries were deemed excessive and inefficient to the detriment of actually employing such weapons. Viable anti-ship laser emplacements were ultimately not available to the fleet until the 2500s. The Zenobia was decommissioned in 2198 and scrapped. (662 meters)

UNSC Chernobog[]

The UNSC Chernobog was commissioned in 2168. The research ship was built for and tasked with the development of space mine warfare, including minelaying, minesweeping, mine countermeasures, and even the use and detection of limpet mines. Practically unique in its role in the 2100s, the Chernobog was successful in developing viable space mines and mine countermeasures, but such systems and weapons saw extremely limited employment during the war; some mine countermeasures and minesweeping systems did see actual use during battlefield cleanup operations in the 2170s and 2180s, but actual mine warfare remained mostly theoretical. The Chernobog was decommissioned in 2199 and sold for scrap. (504 meters)

UNSC Liberty Hammer[]

The UNSC Liberty Hammer was commissioned in late 2168. Previously a Frieden raider under the same name, the Liberty Hammer was captured by UNSC forces during the Siege of Ceres. Like the Makeshift, the Liberty Hammer was painstakingly examined prior to its commissioning. Used to benchmark current Frieden capabilities in advance of the Trojan Offensive, the research ship was similarly used in an opposing force capacity within the UNSC experimentation flotilla. The Liberty Hammer was expended as a target in 2174. (246 meters)

UNSC Octavian[]

The UNSC Octavian was commissioned in 2169. Built to house experimental tracking systems, enormous powerplants, and state-of-the-art targeting computers, the Octavian was effectively employed as a long-range anti-ship sniper platform. Unlike most research ships, the Octavian took part in the Trojan Offensive in January 2170, providing UNSC warships with unequaled targeting data during several bombardment operations. While its systems were matchless within the fleet, the ship was highly specialized and exceedingly expensive to operate. Ultimately overtaken by long-range tracking and targeting systems and equipment it helped create, the Octavian was decommissioned in 2198 and sold for scrap. (1,097 meters)

UNSC Cutting Edge[]

The UNSC Cutting Edge was commissioned in August 2169. The research ship was involved in the development of laser point defense systems. Like the Zenobia and its offensive laser emplacements, the Cutting Edge did produce some limited but effective laser-based point defense batteries, but extremely burdensome power demands and high maintenance costs greatly reduced their viability. Nevertheless, the achievements of the research ship formed the basis of systems that would ultimately be viable in the late 2400s. The Cutting Edge was decommissioned in 2194 and scrapped. (570 meters)

UNSC Laconia[]

The UNSC Laconia was commissioned in 2171. Like the Sneak, the Laconia was involved in the development and testing of stealth systems and spoofing sensors. Joining the ONI stealth development flotilla in 2179, the Laconia remained in service until its retirement in 2276. As with the other ships of the flotilla, most of the activities involving the Laconia remain deliberately vague or otherwise classified. (179 meters)

UNSC Interloper[]

The UNSC Interloper was commissioned in 2186. The Interloper was the first ONI-designed research ship to join the stealth development flotilla. The Interloper was decommissioned in 2290 and scrapped. As with the other ships of the flotilla, most of the activities involving the Interloper remain deliberately vague or otherwise classified. (104 meters)

As part of its role, the Helepolis underwent several major refits and extensive reconstruction during its career in order to mount a bewildering variety of turrets, ammunition types, and loading systems. Successful prototypes would be exhaustedly field tested by the trials ship UNSC Trebuchet starting in 2226. The Helepolis underwent a final major rebuild in 2235 in order to test the viability of a proper coilgun, leading to the construction of the coilgun trials ship UNSC Thunderbird in 2237 and the research ship UNSC Diadem in 2242. The Helepolis was decommissioned in 2240. (1,020 meters)

UNSC Phantom[]

The UNSC Phantom was commissioned in 2233. The research ship spent its entire career as part of the ONI stealth development flotilla and was decommissioned in 2307. As with the other ships of the flotilla, most of the activities involving the Phantom remain deliberately vague or otherwise classified. (89 meters)

UNSC Diadem[]

The UNSC Diadem was commissioned in 2242. Following the successes of the research ship UNSC Helepolis in 2235 and the trials ship UNSC Thunderbird, the Diadem was built to substantially improve the integration of coilgun weapon systems and to develop prototype mounts for larger and more powerful magnetically accelerated weapons. These efforts lead to the construction of the trials ship UNSC Hesperus and the debut of the magnetic accelerator cannon. Briefly considered for reconstruction into a MAC platform like the Hesperus in 2260, the conversion was judged to be excessively costly and impractical, and the Diadem was decommissioned in 2266 and scrapped. (1,456 meters)

UNSC Prowler[]

The UNSC Prowler was commissioned in 2247. The research ship spent its entire career as part of the ONI stealth development flotilla. In 2259, the Prowler successfully debuted a stealth technology able to evade the powerful sensor suite of the UNSC Erebus. The system would be installed aboard a modified Scimitar corvette and commissioned as the stealth corvette Vault of Midnight; all future stealth corvettes were subsequently known as prowlers. The Prowler itself was decommissioned in 2337 and was recorded as scrapped. The decommissioned stealth ship was preserved by the Office of Naval Intelligence and was installed in an undisclosed location for some decades before being installed in an ONI installation on 617 Patroclus. As with the other ships of the flotilla, most of the activities involving the Prowler remain deliberately vague or otherwise classified. (65 meters)

UNSC Fenrir[]

The UNSC Fenrir was commissioned in 2299. Following the Naval Compromise of 2290 and the introduction of the new Unity-class heavy MAC cruisers in 2294, the UEG greenlit further practical research into improved magnetic accelerator cannon systems. The Fenrir was thus the first MAC research ship built following the compromise. (1,557 meters)

UNSC Glimpse of the Ineffable[]

The UNSC Glimpse of the Ineffable was commissioned in 2528. Practically unknown outside intelligence circles, the Glimpse of the Ineffable was heavily involved in the examination of alien materials, specifically those of the Covenant and the Forerunners. (974 meters)

UNSC Where Sunrise Never Comes[]

The UNSC Where Sunrise Never Comes was commissioned in 2539. Rumored to have been involved in the development of the Endless Night-class prowlers, Where Sunrise Never Comes maintained a uniquely uneventful career, missing every major engagement or evacuation by miraculous chance. Following the conclusion of the war, the fate of the research ship went officially unresolved for over a decade; only in 2565 was the Where Sunrise Never Comes officially decommissioned. (386 meters)

Servitor (2113)Evasive Action (2168)Flugzeugtrager-1 (2170)

UNSC target ships were utilized for gunnery practice and weapons testing and were either purpose-built specialist ships or aging or damaged hulks considered expendable.

UNSC Servitor[]

The UNSC Servitor was commissioned in 2113, following the Caesar and Cicero in 2112. The Servitor was the first proper target ship of the UNSA and served the Earth Fleet and later Home Fleet until 2220. The target ship was ultimately transferred to the UNSC Army as a Lunar artillery and anti-air target. The UNSC-A Servitor remained in service until it was deliberately crashed into the Lunar surface in 2243. After a thorough examination, the hulk was used for a series of joint exercises involving Army and Marine units. The wreckage of the Servitor was ultimately destroyed by UNSC Army engineers in 2257.

UNSC Evasive Action[]

The UNSC Evasive Action was commissioned in 2168 alongside the Old Dominion. With Old Dominion serving as control ship, tow ship, and recovery vessel, the Evasive Action became the primary target ship used by the fleet in Martian Space. The Evasive Action was ultimately destroyed in 2255 by the Hesperus during MAC trials.

UNSC Flugzeugtrager-1[]

The UNSC Flugzeugtrager-1 was commissioned in August 2170. One of the four would-be fleet carriers captured by the UNSC during the Trojan Offensive, the Flugzeugtrager-1 was mostly completed at the time of its capture. The ex-fleet carrier's internal machinery prevented the ship from finding new life as a transport or training ship, and the Flugzeugtrager-1 was instead selected for use as a target ship for UNSC forces in the Jovian Trojans. The Flugzeugtrager-1 remained in service until November 2173, when the battered target ship's engines finally failed. The ship was decommissioned, towed to 2920 Automedon, and sold for use as a civilian-operated maintenance barge. Operating variously as FZT1, Maintenance Platform 2920A, and Bailey's Hold, the ex-carrier was in use until 2267, when it was condemned.

UNSC tracking ships were highly specialized auxiliaries outfitted with antennas and electronics. Also known as instrumentation ships, missile range instrumentation ships, or range ships, they provided the fleet with powerful target tracking capabilities as well as extensive data for missile, rocket, shell, and eventually MAC slug testing. Following the development of the Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine, tracking ships were quickly adapted to monitoring the departure and arrival of interstellar-capable spacecraft. Ultimately supplanted by Remote Scanning Outposts (RSOs) in the 2460s, the Insurrection in the 2490s and the Human-Covenant War in the 2520s impelled the fleet to retool its remaining and reserve tracking ships as each crisis demanded.

UNSC Wavelength[]

The UNSC Wavelength was commissioned in 2076. One of the few commissioned research assets of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), the Wavelength was initially tasked with outer system tracking before being paired with the missile testbed Research in 2079. The pairing continued after the 2080 transfer to the UN Space Authority (UNSA). The Wavelength was replaced by Rangefinder in 2108 and was reassigned to the Belt. Following the Jovian Crisis in 2160 and the Battle of Vesta in 2161, the tracking ship became involved with the implementation and support of the new convoy system. The Wavelength survived the Interplanetary War and was decommissioned in 2232 and sold for limited preservation. (545 meters)

UNSC Rangefinder[]

The UNSC Rangefinder was commissioned in 2107. The first dedicated missile range instrumentation ship of the fleet, the Rangefinder replaced the Wavelength and was paired with the missile testbed Research in 2108. The Rangefinder remained in its dedicated role clear through the Interplanetary War. Despite the retirement the Research in 2218, the tracking ship was only decommissioned in late 2255. (562 meters)

UNSC Observation Island[]

The UNSC Observation Island was commissioned in 2145. Intended for outer system operations with an emphasis on Saturnian Space and beyond, the Observation Island was repurposed in 2167 to monitor Frieden fleet operations in the Trojans and Jovian Space. The tracking ship was involved in the January 2170 Trojan Offensive. The Observation Island, like the Wavelength, operated in the Belt and the Jovian Trojans in the 2170s and 2180s; the tracking ship returned to its original mission in 2191. The Observation Island was decommissioned in 2286. (615 meters)

UNSC Astronavigator[]

The UNSC Astronavigator was commissioned in 2161. Purpose built in the late 2150s, the tracking ship joined the research ship Oblivion's Embrace and the survey ship Limitless Horizon for the 2162 Kuiper Expedition. On assignment for more than a decade, all three ships were entirely absent from the Interplanetary War and were recommissioned into the UNSC while underway on December 26, 2163. The Astronavigator was decommissioned in 2270. (482 meters)

Resolution 9065 tracking ships[]

Under United Nations Security Council Resolution 9065, six civilian tracking ships were requisitioned by the UNSA and late UNSC for service during the Interplanetary War: Uniform Silver (2161), Philippic (2162), Skyward Eyes (2163), Akula (2165), Favor of Sophrosyne (2166), and Distant Thunder (2168). Ranging in size from the smallest at 498 meters (Favor of Sophrosyne) to the largest (Philippic) at 912 meters, all six tracking ships survived the war. Three were decommissioned before the turn of the century (Akula in 2182, Distant Thunder in 2191, and Uniform Silver in 2199) while the other three remained in service into the late 2200s (Philippic in 2252, Favor of Sophrosyne in 2261, and Skyward Eyes in 2267).

UNSC Outreach[]

The UNSC Outreach was commissioned in 2167. Built as a dedicated missile range instrumentation ship and originally intended to replace the Rangefinder, the Outreach was instead only briefly involved in missile testing for a few months before being reassigned to the belt in support of the Observation Island and Wavelength. The Outreach participated in the Siege of Ceres and the Trojan Offensive. The tracking ship remained in the Belt for decades and was often involved in the recovery of wrecks and the removal of hazards. Immediately prior to the decommissioning of the Rangefinder in 2255, the Outreach was at long last assigned to its intended role as a missile range instrumentation ship. The Outreach was decommissioned in 2321. (640 meters)

UNSC Spirit of Sophrosyne[]

The UNSC Spirit of Sophrosyne was commissioned in 2172. The tracking ship was involved in cleanup operations across the system. While the project was reduced in size in the early 2190s, the Spirit of Sophrosyne remained in its dedicated role for the next hundred years. The tracking ship was decommissioned in 2299. (840 meters)

UNSC Erebus[]

The UNSC Erebus was commissioned in 2199 and was purpose built as an ONI tracking ship. The Erebus was assigned to the stealth program flotilla for practically the entirety of its career. Despite extensive experimentation involving numerous experimental ships, the breakthrough only occurred in late 2259 when the Erebus was repeatedly unable to locate and lock on to the UNSC Prowler. The program was 'officially' completed in the 2290s and the Erebus was decommissioned in 2315. (608 meters)

Vigilance-class[]

The fourteen Vigilance-class tracking ships entered service between 2265 and 2299. Two members of the class, the Frontier Law and Pathfinder, were transported outside the Sol System in 2400 and 2401, respectively. While the other thirteen ships were decommissioned and scrapped by 2451, the Sentry of Mars remained in service in Martian Space even after the Covenant invaded the system in late 2552; the tracking ship was finally retired in 2556. (520 meters)

UNSC Range Tracker[]

The UNSC Range Tracker was commissioned in 2336. Built to replace the aging UNSC Outreach, the Range Tracker was the last interplanetary missile range instrumentation ship ordered and commissioned by the UNSC. The Range Tracker remained in its role through the Colonial crises and was decommissioned in 2421 and placed in reserve. (701 meters)

UNSC Konstantin Tsiolkovsky[]

The UNSC Konstantin Tsiolkovsky was an instrumentation ship for the UNSC from 2352 to 2466. Utilized primarily from tracking the movements of ships entering and departing slipspace, the Konstantin Tsiolkovsky monitored the launch of every colony ship that departed the Sol System. Retired due to obsolescence, the instrumentation ship was placed in reserve with the intention of possibly selling the ship as a museum piece. (986 meters)

UNSC Pyotr Nesterov[]

The UNSC Pyotr Nesterov was a missile range instrumentation ship that entered service in 2402. Eventually joined by the later Outreach-class, the Nesterov spent most of its career in the Beta Eridani system, participating in weapons testing and training operations. When Covenant forces attacked Beta Eridani, the Nesterov was among the ships lost. (848 meters)

Rocketeer tracking ships[]

The Rocketeer tracking ships were developed with the intention of aiding UNSC battle groups in monitoring slipspace while on deployment to colonial systems. Generally replaced by RSOs in the 2460s, the various tracking ships remained in service with the fleet for their mobility and impressive sensor array. The entire group underwent a major upgrade in 2517/18. The group suffered tremendous casualties during the Human-Covenant War, with every tracking ship ultimate lost in action by 2553. (805 meters)

Outreach-class[]

Main article: Outreach-class missile range instrumentation ship

The Outreach-class entered service in 2445, with seven ships commissioned by 2457. Only the Outreach, Rangefinder, and Precision were completed as missile range instrumentation ships while the Sophrosyne, Observation Island, Skyward Eyes, and Vision of Erebus were completed as Slipspace tracking ships. Both the Precision and Rangefinder were refitted for the latter role in the 2460s, leaving only the Outreach in its intended capacity. The Precision was irreparably damaged by an insurrectionist bombing in 2511 and the Observation Island, Outreach, Rangefinder, Skyward Eyes, and Sophrosyne were lost during the Human-Covenant War. The Vision of Erebus, attached to the Office of Naval Intelligence since 2516, was the sole survivor of the war and remained in service until 2572. (782 meters)

UNSC Kuribayashi[]

The UNSC Kuribayashi was commissioned in 2099. The Kuribayashi was intended for would-be Kyoto-class destroyer crew members and was configured as such. The training ship remained in its Kyoto configuration for the duration of its service, and entered reserve in 2180 alongside the last active Kyoto destroyers. (320 meters)

UNSC Foch[]

The UNSC Foch was commissioned in 2104. The Foch, much like the earlier Kuribayashi, was built specifically as a destroyer trainer: the Foch was configured for future crewmembers of Bordeaux-class destroyers. The Foch was placed in reserve in 2175 alongside the remaining Bordeaux destroyers. (392 meters)

UNSC Recruit[]

The UNSC Recruit was commissioned in 2111. The Recruit was optimally configured to provide instruction for future Halifax-class crewmembers, but the training ship was intended to provide practical experience for personnel, regardless of what ships they ended up on. The Recruit was placed in reserve in 2190. (315 meters)

UNSC Valley Forge[]

The UNSC Valley Forge was commissioned in 2120. The 550-meter-long Valley Forge was a first-rate training ship, and most cruiser officers and crewmembers of the 2150s and 2160s did their first tour aboard the Valley Forge. The training ship was decommissioned and placed in reserve in 2215. (550 meters)

UNSC Moltke[]

The UNSC Moltke was commissioned in 2147 and quickly gained a reputation for providing heavy destroyer crews with a "tremendous fighting spirit". The Moltke was originally intended to streamline training for the new Berlin-class heavy destroyers, but its facilities and instruction was expanded to do the same for New York and Shanghai heavy destroyers. The Moltke School, also known as the Moltke Destroyer Doctrine, called for extremely aggressive destroyer tactics intended to pursue the destruction of enemy combatants as a priority; while highly effective at achieving kills, the Moltke Doctrine was ultimately diminished by heavy destroyer losses at the Battle of the Martian Moons in March 2164 and subsequent escort losses in the Battle of the Belt. While the Moltke remained in service, its original doctrine was effectively discarded in favor of the Eisenhower School which prioritized ship survivability and crew safety over the destruction of enemy forces. The Moltke at times joined the Eisenhower flotilla, though the training ship also took part in limited combat operations during the War. The Moltke was placed in reserve in 2195. (450 meters)

The Moltke Doctrine would resurface in the years following the end of the Inner Colony Wars as a mutated offshoot of the Eisenhower destroyer doctrine, emphasizing the rapid destruction or disabling of enemy combatants as a means of limiting potential risks to ships and crews. The doctrine backfired horribly during the Callisto Incident in March 2494: a trio of UNSC destroyers aggressively pursued and fired 85% of their anti-ship missiles in the opening minutes of the engagement. The intended target, the Insurrectionist corvette Callisto, avoided the missiles by sheltering behind a nearby asteroid and detonating a nuclear device planted ahead of time on the other side of the asteroid; the resulting detonation destroyed the missiles and two of the three destroyers, and left the remaining destroyer badly damaged. While the UNSC ultimately emerged victorious, the Moltke Doctrine was considered totally discredited by the Incident and was once more effectively rejected by Naval Command.

The advent of the Human-Covenant War in 2525 unexpectedly restored the Moltke Doctrine to prominence. UNSC ships were technologically inferior to their Covenant opponents and engagements could only ever be won by utterly destroying all present Covenant forces; attempting to prioritize ship survival and the lives of crewmembers was not only impossible but foolhardy. While battle group tactics continued to change during the war, direct ship-to-ship actions tended increasingly to follow the old tenets of the Moltke School: destroy the enemy or die trying.

UNSC Bonaparte[]

The UNSC Bonaparte was commissioned in 2160 and replaced the Valley Forge as the primary cruiser training ship. The 552-meter-long training ship was state of the art and remained a premier choice for its entire career. The Bonaparte was placed in reserve in 2291 as part of the Naval Compromise of 2290. (552 meters)

UNSC Eisenhower[]

The UNSC Eisenhower was commissioned in late 2164. As large as the Bonaparte at 552 meters, the Eisenhower was a sizable training ship with "a mandate written in blood." Following the staggering losses experienced in the Battle of the Martian Moons in March 2164, UNSC Naval Command demanded major changes in emergency protocols, battle tactics, and training. The Eisenhower carried this mandate for its career alongside a reputation for ironclad discipline and high expectations. The training ship became something of an institution, especially for destroyer crews, such that the phrase "educated in the Eisenhower school of destroyer tactics" became common throughout the fleet. The Eisenhower was supported by an ever-changing number of destroyers, some of which were permanently converted into training ships as well. The Eisenhower was decommissioned in 2297. (552 meters)

The Eisenhower flotilla consisted of several temporarily assigned destroyers as well as several permanently converted destroyers. These included:

  • UNSC Eternal Watch, ex-Kyoto-class light destroyer. Converted in January 2166. The Eternal Watch was decommissioned in 2180 with all other ex-Kyoto destroyers in the flotilla.
  • UNSC Ever Onward!, ex-Kyoto-class light destroyer. Converted in December 2164. The Ever Onward! was decommissioned in 2180 with all other ex-Kyoto destroyers in the flotilla.
  • UNSC Haakon VII, ex-Kyoto-class light destroyer. Converted in November 2168. The Haakon VII left the flotilla in 2175 and was assigned to Ceres Station until it was decommissioned in 2180.
  • UNSC Jarry-Desloges City, ex-Halifax-class light destroyer. Converted in August 2166. The Jarry-Desloges City left the flotilla in 2180 and was assigned to Mars Station until it was decommissioned in 2193.
  • UNSC Lázaro Cárdenas, ex-Halifax-class light destroyer. Converted in February 2165. The Lázaro Cárdenas was decommissioned in 2180.
  • UNSC Macedonian, ex-Kyoto-class light destroyer. Converted in September 2164 and attached to the Eisenhower alongside the Sultan. The Macedonian was decommissioned in 2180 with all other ex-Kyoto destroyers in the flotilla.
  • UNSC Mars City, ex-Halifax-class light destroyer. Converted in January 2165. The Mars City was assigned to the Jovian Trojans from 2182 to 2186 before returning to the flotilla. The Mars City was decommissioned in 2191.
  • UNSC Petropavlovskiy City, ex-Kyoto-class light destroyer. Converted in March 2166. The Petropavlovskiy City was decommissioned in 2180 with all other ex-Kyoto destroyers in the flotilla.
  • UNSC Princesa, Kyoto-class light destroyer. The Princesa was attached to the flotilla from May 2170 to April 2175.
  • UNSC Strasbourg, ex-Bordeaux-class heavy destroyer. Converted in February 2167. The Strasbourg was decommissioned in 2192.
  • UNSC Sultan, ex-Kyoto-class light destroyer. Converted in September 2164 and attached to the Eisenhower alongside the Macedonian. The Sultan was decommissioned in 2180 with all other ex-Kyoto destroyers in the flotilla.

UNSC Olympus[]

The Earth One-class defense ship UNSC Olympus was converted into a training ship in 2169. The Olympus became the first in a series of dedicated ODST training ships. While the training ship was not modified to carry orbital drop pods, the Olympus was used for live-fire zero-gravity training and boarding and counter-boarding simulations. The Olympus was decommissioned in 2173 and scrapped, though elements of the ship's interior were cut out and installed in several ODST training facilities.

UNSC Flugzeugtrager-3[]

The UNSC Flugzeugtrager-3 was commissioned in 2173, just before the decommissioning of the Olympus. The Flugzeugtrager-3 was a prize of the Trojan Offensive: a 788-meter-long incomplete Frieden fleet carrier, seized from the yards at 1404 Ajax. The carrier had languished in the Trojans for nearly a year before being selected for use as an ODST training ship. The Flugzeugtrager-3 was used extensively by the ODSTs, including playing a central role in several major operational exercises. A photograph of an ODST captain inspecting his unit post-exercise in one of the Flugzeugtrager-3's launch bays attained widespread acclaim and became a major piece of ODST propaganda for more than a century. The Flugzeugtrager-3 was decommissioned in 2184 after more than a decade of constant use.

UNSC Aries[]

The Earth One-class defense ship UNSC Aries was converted into a training ship in 2180 and joined the Flugzeugtrager-3 later that year. One of the last exercises that involved both ships included a ceremonial boarding action, launched from the Flugzeugtrager-3 against the Aries, in which the ODSTs "claimed" their new training ship. The Aries was in the role for less than six years and was decommissioned in 2186.

UNSC Vortex[]

The Whirlwind-class assault carrier UNSC Vortex was converted into an ODST training ship in 2185 and replaced the Aries the following year. The Vortex remained in the role until 2217, when it was placed in reserve. The Vortex was reactivated in 2552 during the Sol Campaign and used a decoy ship.

UNSC Fusilier (2263)[]

The trials ship UNSC Fusilier was converted into a magnetic accelerator cannon training ship in 2263 and was placed in reserve in 2355. See: UNSC Fusilier.

UNSC Gladiator (2330)[]

The trials ship UNSC Gladiator was converted into a magnetic accelerator cannon training ship in 2330 and was placed in reserve in 2385. See: UNSC Gladiator.

Chieftain-class[]

The Chieftain-class transport ships were commissioned into the UNSA Fleet in the late 2090s. Acquired from the defunct Titan Space Logistics (TSL), the Chieftain-class comprised a dozen transport ships that had formerly supported TSL operations in Jovian Space. The transports remained in service through the Interplanetary Conflict, though they suffered heavy losses; the class was ultimately retired in the 2190s. (660 meters)

UNSC Oceanus[]

The UNSC Oceanus was commissioned in 2097. Like the Chieftain transports, the Oceanus was formerly a TSL ship and had been the corporation's primarily personnel mover. The Oceanus was the first troopship of the UNSA and remained in service until the 2190s. (1,510 meters)

UNSC Palatial[]

The UNSC Palatial was commissioned in 2099. Formerly a high-speed transport for TSL, the Palatial was purchased by the UNSA as a support ship for far-flung colonies and outposts. The Palatial was lost in 2168 during the Frieden occupation of Ceres and was declared irreparably damaged. The transport was decommissioned and scrapped on-site. (357 meters)

UNSC Flight of the White Swallow[]

The UNSC Flight of the White Swallow was commissioned in 2141. Purchased from the GSF Line and modified to the standards of the Space Authority, the troopship possessed considerable speed and light armor plating. The Flight of the White Swallow was one of the first ships to transport peacekeepers and later UEG troops during the Jovian Moons Campaign in 2160. The troopship survived the war and was decommissioned in 2236. (1,644 meters)

UNSC Lady of Europa[]

The UNSC Lady of Europa was commissioned in 2152. Originally a GSF Line starliner, the Lady of Europa was purchased for use as a troopship and remained in service until 2206. (1,638 meters)

UNSC Weeping Willows[]

The UNSC Weeping Willows was commissioned in 2156. Like the Flight of the White Swallow and the Lady of Rhea, the Weeping Willows was purchased from the GSF Line and modified for use as a troopship by the UNSA. The Weeping Willows served with distinction during the Interplanetary Conflict and remained in service until 2254. (1,712 meters)

UNSC Lady of Io[]

The UNSC Lady of Io was commissioned in 2159. Originally a GSF Line starliner, the Lady of Io was purchased for use as a troopship. The Lady of Io was damaged beyond repair by Frieden forces in 2165. (1,570 meters)

Resolution 9065 transports[]

Main article: Resolution 9065 ships#Transport ships

When the UN Security Council passed Resolution 9065 on March 30, 2160, the UEG ordered the UN Space Authority to assemble a fleet of transports and troopships to facilitate the deployment of Earth troops and assets to Jovian Space. This broad order remained in effect until the end of the Interplanetary War in March 2170.

Sapphire-class[]

The twenty-five Sapphire-class transport ships were converted from the same passenger liners as the Celestial Radiance-class light carriers and entered service in 2160. Fifteen were lost to enemy action during the war and the surviving ten transports were placed in reserve between 2231 and 2263. (877 meters)

UNSC Allied Response[]

The UNSC Allied Response was commissioned in 2162 as an attack transport ship. Built alongside the Allied Prudence-class attack cargo ships, the Allied Response was planned to complement the capabilities of its half-sisters. Unfortunately, much like the Allied Prudence cargo ships, the Allied Response was rarely employed in its intended role; the only exceptions to this being the Siege of Ceres and the Trojan Offensive. The Allied Response was decommissioned and placed in reserve in 2192. (1,226 meters)

UNSC Poseidon[]

The UNSC Poseidon was commissioned in March 2163. Ordered in 2160 as a high-speed troopship, the Poseidon survived the war and remained in service until 2290. (1,754 meters)

UNSC Hannibal[]

The UNSC Hannibal was commissioned in January 2164. Ordered by the UNSA in 2161 as a high-speed troopship, the Hannibal supported UNSC operations throughout the war until it was damaged beyond repair in 2168 during the Battle of the Belt. (1,860 meters)

UNSC General Washington[]

The UNSC General Washington was commissioned in January 2165. Ordered by the UNSA in 2162 as a high-speed troopship, the General Washington survived the war and was decommissioned in 2255. (1,970 meters)

UNSC Sparrowhawk[]

The UNSC Sparrowhawk was commissioned in 2166 as an armored assault transport. The Sparrowhawk saw action at Juno and Ceres and was heavily involved in the Trojan Offensive; the assault transport was placed in reserve in 2216. (662 meters)

UNSC Cererian Queen[]

The UNSC Cererian Queen was commissioned in August 2169. Formerly a starliner of the GSF Line, the Cererian Queen had been undergoing servicing at Ceres when Frieden forces occupied the colony in 2167. While the starliner did receive damage during the resulting siege, it was determined to be far less significant than originally expected and GSF happily sold the damaged ship to the UNSC in late 2168. The Cererian Queen was repaired and rebuilt, becoming a reliable troopship for the fleet for the rest of the war. The troopship took revenge on the Frieden movement in 2170, enabling UNSC troops to quickly seize and occupy Frieden outposts. The troopship was decommissioned in 2196. (1,845 meters)

Gentileschi-class[]

Main article: Gentileschi-class schooner

The Gentileschi-class transport schooners began entering service in 2443.

Hammarskjöld-class[]

The Hammarskjöld-class transport schooners began entering service in 2494.

Castle-class[]

Main article: Castle-class troopship

The Castle-class troopships were the primary transport ships of the CMA and UNSC during the Insurrection and the Human-Covenant War.

Ringgold ships[]

The Ringgold Space Freight Company donated several hundred cargo liners, container ships, and passenger liners to the UNSC Navy from 2527 to 2549 for use as evacuation transports.

UNSC trials ships were used as testbeds for the field testing of experimental weapons, systems, and other technologies.

UNSC Research[]

The UNSC Research was commissioned in 2079. The large trials ship was the primary missile testbed for the UN Space Authority between 2080 and 2145. The Research continued in its role until it was decommissioned in 2218 and scrapped. (571 meters)

UNSC Syracuse[]

The UNSC Syracuse was commissioned in 2142. The gunnery trials ship was used as the fleet's testbed for naval artillery. The Syracuse was replaced by the Trebuchet in 2226 and subsequently decommissioned and scrapped. (795 meters)

UNSC Gift Horse[]

The UNSC Gift Horse was commissioned in 2168. Previously the Frieden light cruiser Sturm LVI, it was captured by UNSC forces during the Siege of Ceres. Unlike the Belt-built Liberty Hammer, the Sturm LVI was a product of Frieden shipyards in the Trojans and carried up-to-date weaponry and systems. Thoroughly examined and investigated, the captured cruiser was commissioned under the name Gift Horse and employed as a testbed for captured Frieden weapons and equipment. Following the conclusion of the Trojan Offensive in January 2170 and the end of the war in March, the Gift Horse was rapidly made obsolete by the capture of numerous Frieden ships and the termination of Frieden weapons development and opposition. Used briefly to test several captured prototypal Frieden weapons in the latter half of 2170 and the first months of 2171, the Gift Horse was decommissioned in August 2171 and expended as a target before January 2172. (696 meters)

UNSC Ziggurat[]

The UNSC Ziggurat was commissioned in 2171. Based on the accomplishments of the research ships Cutting Edge and Zenobia, the Ziggurat was built as a laser weaponry testbed and extensively trialed multiple offensive and defense laser weapon systems. While the Admiralty concluded that such weapons had considerable promise, they were totally impractical for actual deployment throughout the fleet. The Ziggurat was decommissioned in 2199 and scrapped. (844 meters)

UNSC Trebuchet[]

The UNSC Trebuchet was commissioned in 2226. The massive gunnery trials ship replaced the eighty-year-old Syracuse as the Navy's naval artillery testbed. The Trebuchet field tested dozens of artillery systems, most of which were first developed by the research ship Helepolis. When conventional artillery was steadily overtaken by coilgun systems, the Trebuchet was adapted to test coilgun turrets as well. Some commentators noted that the testbed rivaled capital ships in size and firepower with some describing it as a secret or unofficial additional battleship. The Trebuchet was finally retired in 2418 after almost two centuries because UNSC weapons testing moved to the Beta Eridani system and transporting the massive gunnery trials ship was deemed totally impractical. The Trebuchet was saved from the scrapyard and placed in reserve. (1,880 meters)

UNSC Thunderbird[]

The UNSC Thunderbird was commissioned in 2237. Based on the successful experiments of the research ship UNSC Helepolis in 2235, the Thunderbird was built as a coilgun testbed. The trials ship continued in its role until it was decommissioned in 2318. (970 meters)

UNSC Hesperus[]

The UNSC Hesperus was commissioned in 2253. The ship was built around a new weapon system, with the Hesperus practically little more than housing for it. In 2254, the UNSC Hesperus became the first UNSC starship to successfully fire a magnetic accelerator cannon. The Hesperus fired the big gun seven times between 2254 and 2256, after which it was decommissioned and disassembled. (779 meters)

UNSC Tigris[]

The UNSC Tigris was commissioned in 2257 and followed in the steps of the Hesperus. The Tigris carried the big gun and fired it a dozen times in its short life. The Tigris was decommissioned in late 2258. (822 meters)

UNSC Fusilier[]

The UNSC Fusilier was commissioned in 2261. The Fusilier was a proper starship with a magnetic accelerator cannon mounted in its bow. The Hesperus and Tigris had been capable of limited movement and minor maneuvers; Fusilier cruised the system and made stops in Jovian Space and Martian Space. The trials ship fired its big gun twenty-eight times in a variety of circumstances. In 2263, the Fusilier was designated as a magnetic accelerator cannon training ship; the Admiralty wanted to classify it as a cruiser, but the classification was rejected by the UEG. Nevertheless, some information about the ship was leaked to the media, and an expose on the training cruiser Fusilier went viral in 2264. The Fusilier remained in the role until 2355 and was placed in reserve. (1,064 meters)

UNSC Gladiator[]

The UNSC Gladiator was commissioned in 2273. The Gladiator was intended to be another magnetic accelerator cannon trials ship, but it instead became a lightning rod for UEG-UNSC disputes. The UEG, having repeatedly denied funding for a new heavy cruiser class, accused HIGHCOM of trying to quietly amass a fleet of "heavy trials ships" instead and refused to allow new big gun ships to be planned and even demanded that the main gun of the Gladiator be rendered inoperable. UEG inspection teams were somehow never able to locate the Gladiator to certify that its main armament had been disabled, as the ship was inexplicably deployed across the system. In what appears to be a retaliatory action, the UEG cancelled a series of contracts for experimental magnetic accelerator cannons and ordered two delivered guns to be destroyed; the admiralty was described as "suitably apoplectic."

With no real progress made in two years, UEG officials took a different approach: Gladiator was approved to carry the big gun, and a public demonstration of the weapon was requested. The Gladiator fired its magnetic accelerator cannon for the first time in 2275 and recordings of the firing were made available to the media. In an interesting twist, the very government that was opposing the implementation of a big gun navy reaped the benefits of the demonstration and effectively undercut an opposition that accused them of trying to disembowel the UNSC Armed Forces. By 2276, the Gladiator crisis was over and the UEG-UNSC dispute had returned to polite loggerheads. No more magnetic accelerator cannon trials ships were approved, but Gladiator would remain in service and undergo several major refits enabling it to carry different guns over the next decade. The dispute finally ended in the Naval Compromise of 2290. The Gladiator was decommissioned in 2385, having joined the Fusilier as a magnetic accelerator cannon training ship in 2330. (1,220 meters)

UNSC Jackalope[]

The UNSC Jackalope was commissioned in 2476. The Jackalope was employed as an electronic warfare trials ship and was tasked by ONI with forcing new prowler designs to achieve greater stealthiness. (488 meters)

UNSC Excalibur[]

The UNSC Excalibur was commissioned in 2488 and was the first starship to successfully operate and fire a fully function MAC battery system. The Excalibur was decommissioned in 2491 and the MAC battery was utilized by the Excalibur-class in 2497 and the Halberd-class in 2508.

RS1-class[]

The RS1-class (from Recovery Support) of tugboats entered UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) service in 2070, with a total of 100 commissioned before 2080. When all UNOOSA assets were transferred to the new UN Space Authority (UNSA) in 2080, the RS1-class were officially classified as recovery tugboats. Between 2080 and 2164, only two RS1 tugboats were lost, one irreparably damaged by a collision in 2161, the other destroyed in the 146 Xanthippe disaster in February 2163. The ninety-eight active RS1 recovery tugboats were recommissioned into United Nations Space Command (UNSC) service on December 26, 2163. A further twelve RS1 tugboats were lost during the Interplanetary War. The remaining eighty-six were decommissioned and sold for commercial use between 2185 and 2200. (90 meters)

Mighty-class[]

The Mighty-class of multirole tugboats entered UNSA service in 2082, with a total of 400 commissioned by 2100. One hundred and twenty-nine Mighty tugboats were lost during the Interplanetary War. The surviving 271 were slowly decommissioned and sold to commercial interests starting in the 2190s, with the last member of the class, UNSC Mighty No. 415, retired in 2211. (148 meters)

TSL tugboats[]

Following the financial collapse of Titan Space Logistics, Inc. in the 2097, the UN Space Authority purchased 635 tugboats from the company to augment its existing tugboat fleet.

Strong-class[]

The UNSA purchased 165 Strong-class fleet tugboats from TSL in 2097. The class was characterized by their powerful engines, robust hulls, and considerable size; Strong tugboats had been used by TSL to assist the huge colony ships and terraforming platforms the company used during colonization efforts. The Strong-class was considered to be the first fleet tugboats of the UNSC and remained in service into the 2300s. Forty-four members of the class were lost during the Interplanetary War. The last Strong tugboat was decommissioned in 2326. (255 meters)

Prince-class[]

The UNSA purchased 470 Prince-class service tugboats from TSL in 2097. Small but durable, the Prince tugboats were used for navigation assistance and yard operations. Forty-nine members of the class were lost during the Interplanetary War. Most of the class was out of service by the 2190s, and the last Prince tugboat was decommissioned in 2208. (90 meters)

UNSC Solar Monarch[]

The UNSC Solar Monarch was commissioned in 2100. The massive 350-meter fleet tugboat was purchased from the Advanced Space Construction Corporation. The Solar Monarch was the first of several powerful fleet tugboats to service the Space Authority and later UNSC. The Solar Monarch was augmented in 2138 to carry missile defense systems and a pair of point defense turrets. In 2164, the fleet tugboat was provided a pair of Vanguard missile pods, which the Solar Monarch eventually fired for the first time at Jovian Action in August 2165. The Solar Monarch survived the Interplanetary War and was placed in reserve in 2252.

Frontier Giant-class[]

The Frontier Giant-class fleet tugboats were commissioned in 2101. Two hundred were purchased from the Advanced Space Construction Corporation and remained in service until 2246. Twenty-one Frontier Giant tugboats were lost during the Interplanetary War. (175 meters)

Perimeter Guardian-class[]

The Perimeter Guardian-class small service tugboats were commissioned in 2101. Purchased alongside the Frontier Giant-class, the 355 Perimeter Guardian tugs were restricted to yard and dock operations for the duration of their service. Eighty-nine members of the class were lost during the Interplanetary War. The class remained in use until the last was discarded in the 2210s. (80 meters)

UNSC Statesman[]

The UNSC Statesman was commissioned in 2103. The 335-meter fleet tugboat was purchased from the Advanced Space Construction Corporation and remained in service until it was placed in reserve in 2266.

UNSC Behemoth[]

The UNSC Behemoth was commissioned in 2126 and was placed in reserve in 2265. (370 meters)

Frontier Sentinel-class[]

The Frontier Sentinel-class multirole tugboats began entering service in 2132. Also called the "Belt Tugs", the Frontier Sentinel-class was assigned entirely to the Belt operations, where all 1,600 tugboats served for the duration of their careers. During the Interplanetary War, 213 Frontier Sentinel tugboats were lost to enemy action, accidents, or scuttling. The last Frontier Sentinel tugboats were decommissioned in the 2350s. (162 meters)

UNSC Forest Giant[]

The UNSC Forest Giant was commissioned in 2144. The fleet tugboat measured 417 meters and carried a naval battery, a quartet of missile silos, and four point defense turrets. The Forest Giant was sometimes called a recovery tugboat for its role in retrieval and salvage operations. The Forest Giant saw considerable action in the belt during the Interplanetary War and took part in the Jovian Action and Trojan Offensive. The Forest Giant was decommissioned in 2235. The fleet tugboat became a museum ship at the Ceres colony from 2237 to 2375, after which the ship was sold to the Lunar Naval Museum and exhibited on Luna in 2380, where it remained.

UNSC Martian Marvel[]

The UNSC Martian Marvel was commissioned in 2150. The 345-meter fleet tugboat carried only a few missile silos and limited missile defense systems and countermeasures, and instead relied on its impressive speed for safety. The Martian Marvel was the fastest recovery tugboat of the fleet until the Juggernaut was commissioned in 2163. The Martian Marvel was ultimately placed in reserve in 2195.

UNSC Tiamat[]

The UNSC Tiamat was commissioned in 2158 and measured a staggering 656 meters, the largest fleet tugboat of the 22nd century. The Tiamat was built to tow and support the fleet's largest ships, such as heavy carriers, battleships, or cruisers, in the event that such a ship was disabled in battle. The Tiamat sported a pair of naval batteries, ten missile silos, and eight point defense guns, making it the most heavily-armed tugboat in the fleet. The Tiamat participated in the Battle of the Martian Moons, the Jovian Action, the Europa Whirlwind, and the Trojan Offensive, and remained in service until it was placed in reserve in 2375.

UNSC Superpower[]

The UNSC Superpower was commissioned in late 2160. The 488-meter-long fleet tugboat was originally intended to tow space stations and outposts in the far-flung reaches of the system; the Jovian Crisis changed priorities and the Superpower became the rescue tugboat of choice for the Space Authority, a role it remained in for the rest of the decade. The Superpower was eventually assigned to Saturnian Space in 2179 and remained in use in the outer system until 2352.

UNSC Brazen[]

The UNSC Brazen was commissioned in 2161 as a multirole tugboat. The Brazen was unique in its design, 275 meters longs and armed with 8 point defense turrets; the tugboat featured dozens of lifeboats, a huge infirmary, and extensive passenger quarters. The Brazen was often called a "convoy tugboat" or a "security tugboat", descriptions entirely apt to the role it filled during the Interplanetary War. The Brazen was disarmed and sold in 2175, resuming its role as a civilian rescue ship and remained in operation into the 2400s.

UNSC Brawn[]

The UNSC Brawn was commissioned in 2162. Officially a recovery tugboat, the 215 meter Brawn was involved with repair and recovery operations from its commission to its deactivation in 2195.

UNSC Tyrant[]

The UNSC Tyrant was commissioned in 2162. The 575-meter-long fleet tugboat was heavily armored and carried missile pods and point defense systems and quickly acquired a reputation for belligerence and fearlessness. The Tyrant fought at Mars, Jupiter, and in the Trojans, and was credited with a dozen confirmed kills. The Tyrant remained in service until it was placed in reserve in 2366.

Doubleday-class[]

The Doubleday-class multirole tugboats were ordered by the UNSA in 2161, following the Battle of 4 Vesta. The Doubleday tugboats were a hardy design, able to handle the needs of navigation, salvage, and rescue operations. A total of 600 tugboats were ordered and entered commission between 2162 and 2164. Forty-three Doubleday tugboats were lost during the Interplanetary War. The Doubleday-class remained in service for centuries, with some still commissioned in 2552. (210 meters)

UNSC Juggernaut[]

The UNSC Juggernaut was commissioned in 2163. The fleet tugboat was primarily involved in rescue and recovery operations. The 355-meter-long Juggernaut surpassed the Martian Marvel in speed and held the title of "fastest tug in the fleet" for some time. The Juggernaut was decommissioned in 2299.

High Endurance Fleet Tugboats[]

The High Endurance Fleet Tugboats (HEFT) were the backbone of the UNSC tugboat fleet from 2170s into the early 2400s. First entering service in 2165, the UNSC commissioned 10,475 High Endurance Fleet Tugboats: 1,150 during the Interplanetary War and another 575 in 2170s; 2,000 in the 2180s and 2190s; another 5,645 in the 23rd Century; and finally an additional 1,105 in the 24th Century. Several thousand HEFT ships were transferred to the CAA and CMA and transported on colony ships for interplanetary service outside the system. The High Endurance Fleet Tugboats remained in UNSC service into 2500s. (375 meters)

UNSC Old Dominion[]

The UNSC Old Dominion was commissioned in 2168. While technically a tugboat, Old Dominion was primarily employed as a control ship, towing ship, and recovery vessel for the target ship UNSC Evasive Action. (454 meters)

Hefty-class[]

The Hefty-class tugboats were the first interstellar-capable tugs of the UNSC and entered service in 2373. (438 meters)

UNSC Tiny Leviathan[]

The UNSC Tiny Leviathan, often called "Tiny Levi", was commissioned into the UNSC fleet in 2550, and immediately became an iconic auxiliary. (577 meters)
