Master Chief Petty Officer Kayden-127, born Kayden Anderson, is a Spartan II commando of the UNSC Naval Special Warfare Command and is one of the few surviving SPARTAN-IIs. In 2531, he would serve as the leader of White Team which was comprised of Spartan's Eric-007, Selena-098 and Cal-141. Noted as the most skilled close-quarters fighter, Kayden is also one of the top pilots in the program, and an incredible strategist. Throughout his extensive training, Kayden had help from his many friends, including John. They helped mould Kayden into the Spartan he is today.

On February 11th, 2531, Kayden led White Team in Operation: LONESTAR, the team's first engagement against the Covenant, which was a success. As the war raged on, Kayden and the rest of White Team would continue to participate in numerous engagements throughout the Human-Covenant War, one notable conflict would be the Battle of Alpha Terminus V in early 2552, where they would fight alongside the crew of the UNSC Challenger Prime and Matthew-110.

Sometime in 2548, White Team would participate in Operation: BREAKPOINT. Unfortunately, the operation went south and led to Selena and Eric being listed as MIA during the operation, but the two Spartans were able to successfully complete the mission and randomly jumped into slipspace using the UNSC Prowler Nightbourne. Thinking his friends had died by his choices and actions, Kayden would be psychologically torn by the operation. To make matters worse, Cal would be killed in 2549 during a mission on Heian to assassinate a Prophet.

Following the end of the Covenant War and the resurfacing of Selena and Eric, Kayden would serve as the leader of White Team with Storm-B311 and a 'smart' AI known as Trinity. As of July 2558, Kayden has participated in 178 individual military operations and engagements, 121 of which were full campaigns.

In mid 2558, White Team would reunite with the crew of the Challenger Prime once more to prevent a subtle emergence of the Insurrections on the outer colony of Nyrus in the Leonidas System. Unfortunately on December 10th, 2558, all contact was lost in the Leonidas System following the Fall of Nyrus by the hands of the rising religious faction known as The Ascended. Unbeknownst to anyone outside of the conflict, the fight continued on a shield world designated 'Equinox' in early 2559.

Biography

Early Life

Kayden Anderson was born on September 27, 2511 on the outer colony world of Nyrus, located in the Leonidas System. He lived with his two sisters, Nicole and Samantha Anderson, in a two-storeyed house within a poor sector of New Kara, the sprawling capital megacity of Delora. Their home was emotionless. Any chance of life flourishing in the household, unattainable. The only glimpse of life that remained would be Kayden playing with his toy astronauts, Nicole and Samantha playing dress-up, the heavy rain bouncing off the roof, or the flaming arguments arising between Kayden's mother and father. As one would suspect, Kayden's parents struggled gravely for money. His father would always work late as a security officer far from home and his mother worked at a massage shop, until she quit working.

On several occasions, Kayden would witness his mother arrive home with an unfamiliar man who wasn't his father. He'd hide behind the brown living room couch and stare at her mother and the stranger walking up the stares, almost as if it were in slow motion. One night, Kayden finally confronted his mother about who the men were and why he could hear screams emerging from her room upstairs. She'd be filled to the brim with alcohol, her clothes were always soaked in rain, her golden-blonde hair would be disorganised, and her face was smudged with ruined makeup. His mother struggled to speak, eventually forming an unconvincing sentence that she would just watch TV shows with the men for money. Kayden knew for a fact that they didn't have a TV, but he didn't pressure her further.

When his father died in an Insurrectionist attack at a heavily populated underground train station two months later, and his mother became diagnosed with liver cancer shortly afterwards, it fell onto Kayden's auntie, Verlaine Anderson, a renowned former UNSC pilot and her husband Logan Stone, to raise Kayden and his sisters. Verlaine and Logan moved the trio out of their old home with their mother's approval before she passed away, and into a coastal luxurious life on the coast of Sonastrand, just a few hours away from New Kara. The transition was fun and easy for Kayden's sisters as they didn't have to experience much of their old home, but he was very homesick. After they got settled into their new home, Verlaine encouraged Kayden and his sisters to play together on the beach in front of their house and have fun until sunset, where they would watch the fading sun disappear in the distance and witness the dark blue night taking its place.

Verlaine and Logan took great care of the kids, but Logan would frequently have to leave for 'work' in the highly populated sectors of New Kara for business meetings and the like, which led to Verlaine looking after the children a lot more. Logan was in fact, an Insurrectionist. He led the Insurrectionist movement in Delora during his time away from home which involved heists, raids and operations all across the continent. Verlaine knew of his Insurrectionist past, but never knew he still continued to do so following their marriage.

When he was at the age of six, Kayden attended 'Anestin Elementary’. At school, Kayden was always nervous when placed in a group working task with his fellow peers, or selected to read a short sentence about a chosen subject. He didn't work well in group classes, but he excelled in individual tasks. He pushed through difficult tasks other children his age considered to be impossible. Kayden was on his way to enter Bellwin Middle School, one of the top private schools in the city of Sonastrand. As a reward for his excellence in school, Verlaine bought him and his sisters a dog which they named Rex.

As his final months of being a normal child were coming to an end, Kayden enjoyed going on walks with his friend from school, Dante around 10pm, which was sunset at Nyrus. With permission from their parents/guardians, the two would walk around a rocky coastline a few minutes from Kayden's house, making up their own little adventures of climbing mountains or pretending to fight the bullies from their school.

Conscription and Training

In 2517, Kayden was one-hundred and twenty-seventh among one-hundred and fifty children of similar age that had been selected based on specific genetic markers for inclusion in Project: SPARTAN II, which only had facilities and funding for half that number. When a young female ONI operative, Lieutenant Quinn, came to Sonastrand to screen Kayden, she witnessed him fighting three other boys at the front gates of his school. Kayden ultimately came out victorious, standing on top of one of the bullies and sticking out his tongue as a sign of disrespect. All three children who fought against Kayden weren't seriously injured, but Kayden barely had any scratches on him. Shortly after this fight, Kayden would be moved to a different class, separate from the boys who attempted to beat him. As Quinn left Nyrus, she noted that the planet still had a strong Insurrectionist presence.

Unfortunately in 2517, Kayden would be abducted by ONI operatives and replaced with a flash clone of himself. He and Dante were going on their usual adventures when a female ONI operative dressed as a school teacher walked up to the boys and offered them ice cream. They happily accepted. The woman told Kayden that she had his missing Lion-Man toy in her spaceship, which filled him with excitement and relief. The operative then looked at Dante and told him that his parents were calling him home. Dante unknowingly walked back home, telling Kayden he'd see him tomorrow at school. As the distant figure of Dante licking his ice cream begun to fade away, the operative asked Kayden to hold her hand. He grabbed a hold of her hand and they entered the albatross. When they did, Kayden saw his Lion-Man figurine laying on the ground. He took it and started moving the toy's arms to make sure it still worked.

Kayden thanked the teacher, but when asked to return home, the teacher's smile turned into a plain, emotionless face. She ignored his request and walked back outside to make sure no one had seen them. Then, as Kayden walked over to the teacher, black gloves masked his face. Another operative, bulky in size, was inside the albatross who took Kayden by surprise. The boy dropped his ice-cream and Lion-Man toy, struggling to breathe and unable to call for help. A third operative sedated Kayden with a drug. Once Kayden was unconscious, they placed him inside a cryo-chamber. Mere seconds later, a clone which looked identical to Kayden emerged from the albatross.

Minutes later, the clone arrived back home licking a fresh new ice-cream cone. The Anderson's and Logan didn't notice anything wrong with 'Kayden', but after a few years the clone started to show signs of fault. It would constantly zone out for minutes at a time and become unresponsive to simple questions. Years later, Kayden eventually 'died'. Kayden's death motivated Nicole to join the Marine Corps at the age of eighteen, ultimately becoming an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper. Samantha on the other hand, became a professional photographer once she graduated Anestin University and moved to Reach when she was 36, where she lived in New Alexandria, Eposz with her husband and two daughters. The Albatross quickly departed and flew off towards the planet Reach.

Once he woke up on September 23, Kayden was herded into an amphitheatre along with many other children by a sharp sturdy drill instructor. In fact, every child had an instructor standing by them. He was seated down next to a girl with green eyes. Moments later, the infamous Dr. Halsey emerged through the door at the bottom alongside Chief Petty Officer Franklin Mendez and stood on the stage in front of the children. Kayden stared blankly at the pair positioned in front of the children. He watched the doctor as she begun to speak.

"As per Naval Code 45812, you are hereby conscripted into the UNSC Special Project, code-named SPARTAN-II."

Kayden, not understanding what she was on about, remained calm. Nervous, but calm. He noticed a boy stand up and try to leave, but the nearby drill instructor grabbed him by the shoulders and pressed him back down. Kayden's eyes were wide opened as he turned back to face the woman. He had hoped that this was just a joke of some kind, but it wasn't. The only thing he could think about as he was seated in the amphitheatre, was home. He wanted to see his family again. As the doctor finished her speech, Kayden was escorted along by Chief Petty Officer Mendez and other UNSC officers to the mess hall where they ate, then to their barracks where they slept. Kayden struggled to sleep that night. The hope he held onto just moments ago begun to wear off of him. A tear rolled down his cheek as he hugged himself to sleep.

The next morning, Kayden and the other children were woken up very early by drill instructors. After he'd showered, he returned to his cot where a trunk had been placed in front of it. The trunk contained several underwear, thick socks, a pair of combat boots and a set of grey sweats which had his name stencilled on the chest, KAYDEN-127. Once everyone was clothed, Mendez marched them outside and had them form rows, as they would then be ordered to complete a series of calisthenics that included jumping jacks, sit-ups, leg lifts and other rigorous things. After this, Kayden and the other children jogged through the military compound, past more barracks, along a river, and over a bridge, finally coming to a stop in the courtyard of a naval officers' academy. During this run, Kayden met Alphonse-046. There, Kayden and the others met Déjà, a 'dumb AI' who had been given the job of continuing the trainees' formal education. Inside the building, Kayden and the others were served light snacks and treated to a history lesson about the Battle of Thermopylae.

After the lesson, the trainees were told they were heading towards the playground, but this turned into a two-mile run to a forest of twenty-meter-tall wooden poles, rope cargo nets and bridges, knotted climbing ropes, pulleys, and baskets. Mendez had them form three lines and declared that each row of three would be a team Kayden was grouped with Cal-141 and Eric-007. Mendez explained that they would be playing a game called "Ring the Bell" in which the objective was for every member of each team to ring a brass bell that hung from a slide pole next to the tallest wooden pole and then make it back to the start. Their teamwork during the exercise made the trio finish in the top half. The last team to make it back would go hungry that evening, although this punishment ultimately fell on Blue Team due to trainee-117's lack of leadership. This would become a daily treatment for the candidates; strengthening their bodies as well as their minds. In the years that followed, Kayden was schooled in military strategy and tactics, weapons and history, and was given extreme physical training.

Wilderness Training Preserve

In 2519, Kayden was taken alongside his fellow trainees to a Military Wilderness Training Preserve for a mission that required each trainee to be left alone in the woods with only a single piece of a map. It was up to them to find one another so that they could piece the map together and locate the designated extraction point. Kayden linked up with Matthew-110, who would become Kayden's first and closest friend in the program. They walked for ages until they eventually regrouped with the other children. Kayden gave his piece of the map to Kelly-084, who placed down all of the children's pieces together. It turned out that the extraction point was a full day's hike from where they were. The children moved out and begun their trek. At noon, the children stopped to eat berries they had gathered along their journey.

It was near sundown when they finally came upon their destination in a meadow where another Albatross dropship sat.  This one was guarded by six men without any uniforms. John-117 and Sam-034 were the ones who scouted ahead and saw the scene first, so they explained the situation to the others. John devised a plan where someone would play the role of a "rabbit". The rabbit would lure the men into a trap but being quick enough not to get caught themselves. Kelly volunteered for this role.

It would be up to her and Sam to convince the guards that Sam had broken his leg. When their guard was down, that was when Kayden and the rest would strike. When Kelly revealed herself, she managed to get one man to chase after her. Kayden and the others were hidden behind the surrounding trees and rocks, the snow masking their presence. Sam laid on the ground. As soon as the man reached Sam, he pulled out a humbler stun device. Before he could attack Sam with it though, a rock was thrown near his head. When the man looked around, he was covered in a barrage of rocks. As he tried to retreat he looked directly at Kayden, who emerged from his hiding place at last, and ditched the final rock at his head.

The man dropped the stun device and was bleeding on the ground, barely conscious. The remaining five men came at once, trying to locate the Sam. Which led to them being assaulted with more rocks. Once the sixth man fell to the ground, the children hopped into the Albatross, where Deja took control of the dropship and them off the ground and returned them home. The mission was ultimately a success.

At some point during their training, Kayden and the others accompanied Mendez to the colony of Emerald Cove, where they were given a mission that involved spending time underwater. Mendez sabotaged half the air tanks provided to the trainees, and in response they ended up stealing his. Afterwards, they all ditched Mendez for a whole week while they camped on an island with nothing to do but light bonfires, eat clams and calamari and surf.

ASTER

On March 9th, 2525 and just at the age of 13 to 14, Kayden and the other trainee's left Reach and were transported to Medical Facility Endurance above the planet to undergo a series of invasive procedures designed to chemically, physically and genetically augment their bodies. When the procedures had been completed, only a rough handful of the teenagers had ostensibly been augmented successfully. 

Kayden was amongst a handful of 'washouts' whose bodies rejected the augmentations and had to be retrained and re-augmented along with other augmentation washouts. Kayden, along with Eric, Selena, Douglas-042, Juliet-083, Jerome-092, Alice-130 and two unnamed Spartans were reaugmented. During their training, Kayden was paired up with Eric-007 and Selena-098, and with Cal being transferred to their team, all four Spartans were arranged into White Team, with Kayden allocated to be the leader. Juliet-083 and the other two unnamed Spartans were taken in by ONI.

Before their deployment, Dr. Halsey came to them and informed them about the alien faction known as The Covenant, a religious syndicate with various alien species hellbent on the decimation of Humanity. On February 9th, 2531, Red Team and White Team would be deployed to seperate human colonies, all chad in MJOLNIR Mark IV armour.

Operation: LONESTAR

On February 10th 2531, White Team was tasked with infiltrating and destroying a CCS-class battlecruiser called ’Darkest Day’ that was stationed below orbit on the colony of New Forrester, extracting the Covenant victors following the battle that ended hours before White Team's arrival. Named after the planet's beautiful forests and vast jungles, New Forrester had a population of over ten million, all of which were either slaughtered or glassed. Upon arrival from the UNSC Nightbourne, Echo-113 dropped White Team in one of the few remaining jungles just a few kilometres away from the cruiser's location. The hellish night sky and thick clouds of ash masked their approach as they stealthily neutralised Covenant infantry watching over the in the jungle who were en route to the cruiser.

Once their path was clear, White Team soon arrived at the gravity lift, surrounded by more Covenant infantry moving supplies onboard the cruiser. The Spartans were able to eliminate the infantry and moved from cover to cover as they slayed the remaining forces. More reinforcements descended from the lift, but were put down to rest by the Spartans. As soon as the final enemy collapsed, Kayden immediately notified Commander Yuri of the Nightbourne that they were ascending up the cruiser.

Once they reached the glowing light purple beam of the gravity lift, they reloaded their weapons and one by one, drifted upwards inside the cruiser. Inside the ship, the gravity lift deployed White Team a couple feet above deck, and were immediately attacked by Covenant infantry. With the element of surprise long gone, White Team pushed forward throughout the cruiser. They fought through several corridors until they eventually came into a hanger bay.

Kayden ordered Eric to take out his Rocket Launcher, which he did with pride. Moments later, Covenant forces rushed into the hangar bay from all sides, but the Spartans were prepared. With Eric's Launcher in the playing field they mowed down the infantry with ease, until a pair of Hunters entered the bay. Cal distracted the first hunter whilst Kayden gunned it down by firing multiple rounds of his Shotgun into the back of it, whilst Eric and Selena dealt with the second. The team made their way through more corridors, dealing with more Covenant forces.

Kayden suggested that they split up. Cal and Kayden would locate the ship's bridge whilst Eric and Selena searched for the cruiser's reactor and planted charges inside the reactor room and all across the ship. Eventually, Kayden and Cal entered the ship's bridge and encountered the shipmaster Fal 'Colomee. The shipmaster barely had time to react to the Spartans' presence on the bridge as Cal blew the back of his skull with her Sniper. Kayden and Cal then finished off the other Sangheili forces present in the bridge. Kayden kicked the Shipmaster's lifeless corpse before following Cal out of the bridge. It was there when Kayden and Cal began to notice the bridge shake slightly as the ship woke itself to life.

Elsewhere, Eric and Selena found their way to the reactor, but they were met with a large resistance force. Eric took the lead as Selena stayed back and 'locked' the door from behind them. They marched onwards to the reactor. Before they were able to continue their mission though, Elite Spec Ops appeared in active camo, but were easily picked off by the duo. They made their way to the reactor, setting the charges. Once the charges were set, they rendezvous to the first hangar bay they entered, where Cal and Kayden were battling more infantry that entered the hangar bay.

As the waves of Covenant infantry began to soon dissipate, the team quickly made their way back to the exit of the gravity well, running past the dead bodies of Unggoy, Sangheili and Kig-Yar. The descended down the lift and made their way though the Jungle to where Echo-113 was waiting for their arrival. The pilot made a joke saying if the Spartan's had a nice day at school, to which Eric replied 'it wasn't too bad'. The pilot made its way back to the Nightbourne, which continued to monitor Darkest Day. Once Kayden and the others made their way to the brig, they looked outside at Darkest Day. Eric counted down from ten as he detonated the charges, blowing the entire ship and all of its crew to hell. They had successfully sabotaged Darkest Day before it was able to enter slipspace.

Operation: SHOCKWAVE

On November 12th, 2539, White Team would be sent to the dying city of Elden on the planet of Hannibal to eliminate a high value Covenant target by ONI: An elite Zealot known as Atho 'Damen, although he was known amongst the Covenant as Sinai. As the entire planet was being glassed, it was deemed inhabitable. White Team were deployed from Echo-113 and began their engagement with the Covenant infantry on the surface, alongside the surviving marines. They evacuated the handful of soldiers onto the pelican. Cal provided cover fire with her sniper rifle for the marines returning with wounded. Selena, Eric and Kayden would draw most of the Covenant’s fire towards them.

Kayden and Eric heard more screams from a nearby building. They quickly headed over to the direction of the screams, ascending up a small police station masked with fire. He came just in time to find their primary target and three other Zealots finishing off a fireteam of Marines. Kayden pounced on one of them, narrowly missing the frightened Marine as the Zealot struck down at a nearby wall with rapid speed and Eric used his Assault Rifle and unloaded all of his ammo on two of the Zealots, killing them. Kayden snapped the Zealots' head, leaving only Sinai to fight. Sinai stood back and ignited his Energy Sword and charged at the two Spartans, but he was to slow and fell to the ground as bullets passed through his torso and head. The two Spartans returned to the fight shortly after, but not after Kayden took the Sangheili's Energy Sword. They made their way back to Echo-113 which was filled to the brim with Marines. As the final marine arrived aboard the Pelican, The mission was ultimately a success.

Operation: BREAKPOINT

White Team’s last mission together is sometime around 2548, when they were tasked to cease Covenant forces that planned on activating forerunner weapons on the outer colony of Khan, a planet which is still in the mist of conflict. White Team arrived on the much less Covenant-polluted side of the planet on March 8th, 2548 via the Archangel, a Prowler. They tracked down the Covenant to a forerunner relic in a deep cave. White Team were then granted permission to neutralise the infantry. Taking a HAVOC-class nuke, they disposed of the forerunner relic to make sure it didn't fall into enemy hands. Shortly after emerging from the cave, a covenant fleet emerged from slipspace above orbit. They ran out from the open avoid being spotted, but they were too late. Banshee's soon hovered above the team, spraying plasma all over the grassy terrain as they rushed through the treeline, jumping over rocks and broken trees.

The UNSC Challenger Prime and what was left of Battle Group Victor were ready to retreat from the fallen planet, but arrived to White Team's position to fend of the large Covenant fleet above orbit after hearing Kayden's distress signal. Meanwhile, White Team arrived at the Archangel, but it was bombarded with plasma fire from the Banshee's. Charlie-320 was dispatched from the Challenger Prime and made it's way to grab White Team. Leaving the damaged Archangel behind, White Team made their way to the L.Z. Cal and Kayden managed to make it onboard, but Eric and Selena were pinned down by Covenant fire.

Eric gave the order for the Challenger Prime to leave to leave the system once the Pelican arrives inside the ship, telling Cal and Kayden that they'd live to fight another day. Kayden and Cal could only watch as Selena and Eric moved back into the treeline before a long strip of Banshee's moved in on the large forest and bombarded the area with their fuel rod cannons. After the damaged Pelican slid itself into the hanger bay of the Challenger Prime, most of Battle Group Victor were overwhelmed by the Covenant fleet and were destroyed. The Challenger Prime, Queenslayer and a scarce amount of other ships escaped via slipspace and left the godforsaken planet.

Raid on TITAN Base

On January 13th, 2548, Cal and Kayden (what remained of White Team) were sent on another assignment against the Covenant. They were deployed to TITAN Base, an Office of Naval Intelligence research facility hovering the planet of Delta Corinthus III. This mission would require immediate neutralisation of all Covenant forces before they attempted to access UNSC databanks in the station. Nothing else about the operation has been dated.

Battle of Sigma Octanus IV

Kayden participated in the Battle of Sigma Octanus IV, under Green Team. He was designated as Green-Three, following under Linda-058 into the suburbs surrounding Côte d'Azur. Their team scouted out the residential section of the city and found no survivors. They then helped escort the twenty civilian survivors that Red Team, led by Joshua-029, had found and were able to successfully evacuate them before Blue Team, led by John, detonated a HAVOK nuclear warhead in the heart of the city, destroying tens of thousands of Covenant forces stationed there. Green Team then arrived in the UNSC Leviathan shortly after via a Pelican and returned to Reach for debriefing.

Kayden is a remarkable fighter and an intelligent individual, but amongst these traits, he's grown to become a remarkably adroit leader. He's changed his selfishness to selfless acts, where he'd place other people's lives as a top priority before his own, which he'd frequently notice Cal do on the battlefield. He's very vigilant during operations or battles when with other personnel, but likes to act reckless when with his team, unless he knows what he's up against.

During his early days at training, he used to be very quiet, but would often crack jokes, quickly making friends by the minute and making even the saddest individuals show a slight smile. Although he doesn't talk as much as he used to, Kayden often makes jokes during a battle or operation to lighten the dark tone everyone faces, a trait he's had since he was little.

Unknown to anyone but the members of White Team, Kayden secretly loves the thrill of danger. He isn't afraid of death, and due to decades of constant battle, Kayden doesn't show much, if any emotion at all when it comes to fear. Kayden, alongside Kurt-051, Fred-104, Matthew-110, Fhajad-084, Musa-096 and Serin-019 are the only Spartan-IIs known to become officers. Kayden's service with the UNSC throughout the Human-Covenant War has left him as a highly decorated individual.

Kayden loves close-quarters combat. The same reason he carries a weapon from the M45 series and a custom Energy Sword into the battlefield; he loves to get in close and personal. Although not the quickest in terms of running, John noted that Kayden has quickest reflexes amongst the Spartan-IIs.

Physical Description

Kayden stands at 244 centimetres (8 ft) in height with armour and 136 kilograms (299.8 lb) in mass without armour, making him one of the largest and strongest Spartan-IIs, as well as one of the tallest.

He has brown skin with jet black hair. His eyes are dark blue. He has a small, yet noticeable facial scar that runs across his nose from eye to eye which has been there since he was a child.

Following his successful augmentation, Kayden was equipped with MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armour, using the standard Mark IV set.By 2535, Kayden wore the B variant of the MJOLNIR Mark IV armour. Later on, after upgrading to MJOLNIR Mark V armour by 2551, he would continue to use the B variant of the helmet. Upon his return to Earth following the end of the Human-Covenant War, Kayden and the rest of the active Spartan-IIs moved to the MJOLNIR Mark VI, where he would use the standard Mark VI set with a white tint. Eventually, Kayden's armour was upgraded to the Generation 2 platform at some point, still keeping the same look of the Mark VI, which he continued to wear as of 2559.
