Karina Liberatore (SN:35426-95883-KL) was a Human special covert warfare operative of the United Nations Space Command and was also an biochemically augmented soldier of the ORION Project, which made her a first generation SPARTAN. Liberatore would go on to become a covert special warfare operator for the Office of Naval Intelligence.

Born into luxury and wealth on Tribute, Liberatore enlisted in the UNSC Marine Corps, where she would go on as an operator for UNSC Naval Special Forces. Liberatore's lethal skill would lead to her joining the ORION project, where she stood out from her ORION peers. Liberatore would go on to join the Office of Naval Intelligence, where she would undertake covert operations that included assassinations, intelligence gathering, espionage acts, hostage rescues, and direct action operations. Liberatore would also join the covert Asymmetrical Action Group (AAG) during the Human-Covenant War.

As an operative, Liberatore was regarded as being amongst the best of her peers in the special warfare community. Liberatore is known for her cunning CQB methods, as she was proficient with hand-to-hand combat and CQC tactics. Liberatore was known in the field for her aggressive approach to combat, and her drive to be the best within the special warfare communities. Liberatore is regarded as one of the most intense and fiercest soldiers by her peers, which has helped form her reputation as being one of the ONI's most lethal and respected operatives.

Biography

Early Life

On May 15, 2471, Karina Allison Liberatore was born on the human colony of Tribute, one of the more prominent commercial colonies in all of human-occupied space. Being raised in the urban metropolis of Casbah City, Karina came from a wealthy family of industrialists and politicians. From the onset of her youth, there were already great expectations from girl, as she was placed in the Tribute Gifted, an elite educational facility. The young Karina had surpassed all academic standards, showing excellent aptitude in math and in science. The Liberatore family also got Liberatore involved in a plethora of physical and sporting activities, such as gymnastics and the track and field events. By the time she entered secondary education, Karina showed herself as a gifted girl, destined to join long line of politicians, doctors, and industrialists that had defined the Liberatore family.

Initial Operational History in UNSC Armed Forces

Karina would go through the Marine's basic training course at the Unified Combined Military Boot Camp on Reach and would make an immediate impression. Liberatore outperformed other trainees in endurance and strength, as she her athleticism allowed her to exceed all standards. Karina also proved to be a formidable fighter during basic hand-to-hand combat training and pugil stick fighting. Karina also scored well during the weapons training course, as she proved herself adept with all standard issue weaponry. Liberatore would graduate from basic training, and earned the rank of Corporal. However, Karina desired to be more than a simple Marine, and she pursued a career in UNSC Special Operations Forces, and, after passing through their entrance requirements, and completing their Assessment and Selection process, would join the ranks of Naval Special Warfare Command (NAVSPECWAR).

Liberatore underwent her specialized warfare training at the UNSC Special Warfare Center in Songnam, Korea on Earth. Liberatore was assigned to be a special warfare operator for the UNSC Naval Special Countermeasures Group, a covert counter-terrorism operations team. Liberatore and her team would be sent on rapid deployment in the Outer Colonies, to conduct combat operations against the Insurrectionists. The NAVY-SCMG platoons would conduct counter-terrorism and psychological operations against Insurrectionist militias and terrorist cells. In her service in the SCMG, Liberatore would show herself to being a capable leader, as she would head several of the SCMG operations, and would be promoted to Lieutenant, Junior Grade. Karina was not just known for her leadership skillset in the field, but she also had a reputation for being a ruthless, efficient, and intense warrior, as if being a soldier seemed to come naturally for her.

Liberatore was considered to be a natural talent when it came to combat, as she was able to easily neutralize any enemy combatants with her CQC and hand-to-hand combat skillset. There were after-action reports of Liberatore taking down scores of rebels in narrow corridors and heavily defended rebel outposts. Fellow operators described Liberatore taking down insurgents with just her fists and a knife. Karina was also adept in mid-range combat, and learned how to conduct effective reconnaissance actions. However, even with her gifts, Liberatore was not above criticism, as she was lambasted for being overly aggressive and reckless in several operations. Liberatore's brash and blunt attitude did not win her many supporters, as well. Karina was also feeling dissatisfaction, as she felt the she was constrained by guidelines of combat. Karina longed for a effective path for her to combat the Insurrection and felt her talents were being wasted during her two years in NAVSPECWAR.

ORION Project

Induction and Augmentation

In early 2491, the Colonial Military Administration would relaunch the ORION Project , with Section III of the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) providing data and resources to support the program. With the success of the initial 65 test subjects in their training and augmentations, ONI sought out more volunteers for the program. Liberatore was approached with an offer to join in 2492, and she promptly accepted.

Karina and the other ORION volunteers were placed under the specialized training course for rigorous combat testing. ORION initial testing in CQC and basic combat skills. Thanks to natural talents in CQC and hand-to-hand combat, Liberatore would rise through their ranks, as she became one of the best performing candidates within the program. However, Liberatore would face struggles that she never fully addressed in the past. Liberatore struggled with long-range weapon, like DMRs, and she showed poor performances when operating with a team in most combat simulations and exercises, as she often would to follow her own path. When she was paired with Riley Franklin, a fellow ORION trainee, Karina would find common ground with him, as both of them shared a strong hatred for the Insurrectionists, and have similar work ethics and intense drives. Karina and Riley trained together often, pushed each other to their limits, whether it's on obstacle course, weapons training, or CQC training. Karina was able to reconnect with others again, and learned that she could be reliant on others when she needs to be.

During the Assessment and Selection phase of the training course, Liberatore and Franklin would meet two other ORION candidates, Javier Morel and Daniel Contreras.

Operation: CHARLEMAGNE

In June 2494, Colonel Robert Watts, a Marine officer who defected, had joined the Secessionist Union and rallied the Insurrectionist movements on the Outer Colony of Eridanus II, equipped by numerous rebel sympathizers and gunrunners within the Colonial Military Administration's command hierarchy. Watts orchestrated a methodical and thorough series of attacks, involving terror bombings, political assassinations, and kidnappings that had impacted Eridanus"s shipping routes. With the aid of their CMA sympathizers, Watts and the insurgents were able to gather a small flotilla of starships to support their efforts. The Eridanus Government officially requested support from the Unified Earth Government in December 2494, as the carnage and chaos spread throughout the colony. However, by January of 2495, Watts and his rebel militia had effectively taken control of the colony.
