Karina Liberatore (SN:35426-95883-KL) was a Human special covert warfare operative of the United Nations Space Command and was also an biochemically augmented soldier of the ORION Project, which made her a first generation SPARTAN. Liberatore would go on to become a covert special warfare operator for the Office of Naval Intelligence.

Born into luxury and wealth on Tribute, Liberatore enlisted in the UNSC Marine Corps, where she would go on as an operator for UNSC Naval Special Forces. Liberatore's lethal skill would lead to her joining the ORION project, where she stood out from her ORION peers. Liberatore would go on to join the Office of Naval Intelligence, where she would undertake covert operations that included assassinations, intelligence gathering, espionage acts, hostage rescues, and direct action operations. Liberatore would also join the covert Asymmetrical Action Group (AAG) during the Human-Covenant War.

As an operative, Liberatore was regarded as being amongst the best of her peers in the special warfare community. Liberatore is known for her cunning CQB methods, as she was proficient with hand-to-hand combat and CQC tactics. Liberatore was known in the field for her aggressive approach to combat, and her drive to be the best within the special warfare communities. Liberatore is regarded as one of the most intense and fiercest soldiers by her peers, which has helped form her reputation as being one of the ONI's most lethal and respected operatives.

Biography

Early Life

On May 15, 2471, Karina Allison Liberatore was born on the human colony of Tribute, one of the more prominent commercial colonies in all of human-occupied space. Being raised in the urban metropolis of Casbah City, Karina came from a wealthy family of industrialists and politicians. From the onset of her youth, there were already great expectations from girl, as she was placed in the Tribute Gifted, an elite educational facility. The young Karina had surpassed all academic standards, showing excellent aptitude in math and in science. The Liberatore family also got Liberatore involved in a plethora of physical and sporting activities, such as gymnastics and the track and field events. By the time she entered secondary education, Karina showed herself as a gifted woman, destined to join long line of politicians, doctors, and industrialists that defined the Liberatore family. However, Karina would go on a much different path.

In school, Liberatore was a loner and struggled to make relationships with her peers, as she was often blunt and wasn't interested with social interactions. She was often tormented and bullied by others for her unusual attitude and out of jealously for her gifts. However, during another harassment at the school yards, a fellow student came to her aid and warded off Karina's tormentors. This student was Ashley Rae, one of the school's premier athletes. Karina and Ashley would form a friendship, as they both became inseparable from one another. Ashley, who was more of a social butterfly, was able to overcome some of Karina's social barriers. For Karina, she would grow and developed her own socials skills thanks to Ashley. Ashley, who trained in boxing, would also teach Karina on how to defend herself. Karina would return the favor by tutoring Ashley in Math. These two became as close as sisters. For Karina, she began to come out of her shell and show herself to be caring girl that strive to be the best version of herself to help others. Karina was shown that she could follow her own path of fulfillment and not be defined by her lineage.

Between 2475 and 2483, numerous civilian uprisings against the Unified Earth Government had broken out in the Outer Colonies. Insurrectionists would begin to resort to terrorist tactics against the UNSC and the CAA, targeted the civilian population centres in the Inner and Outer colonies. In 2487, Insurrectionists would target marketplaces in Casbah City for one these attacks. Several sympathetic rebels, armed with homemade bombs and SMGs, had planted improvised explosives around the markets and set them off, and proceeded to hunt down any survivors of the bombings. Karina and Ashley were at one of these marketplaces during these terror attacks. Ashley was killed in one of the blasts. while Karina was wounded. She witnessed the rebels carry out their massacred as she would pretend to be dead until local police and UNSC forces neutralized the rebels, and she was rescued by local police officers and EMTs.

Karina escaped with relatively minor injuries, but the trauma was immense for her. In 2488, after many months of recovery and rehab, Liberatore would isolate herself from her peers and family. Liberatore would develop a more serious demeanor and developed intense feelings of anger. She became more interested in Military Science and the news of terrorist attacks from the Outer colonies. Karina continued and intensified her boxing and gymnastics training, and began to develop an interest in the military lifestyle. She rebelled against her family, as she showed no interest in following the footsteps and legacy of her family, and rejected scholarships to prestigious educational institutions. In fact, Karina visited the local UNSC recruitment station in Casbah City, and she would enlist into the UNSC Marine Corps, angering her family. In 2489, Karina left the spaceport in Casbah City, with another group of recruits, and was on her way to Reach, to begin her new life in the military.

Initial Operational History in UNSC Armed Forces

Karina would go through the Marine's basic training course at the Unified Combined Military Boot Camp on Reach and would make an immediate impression. Liberatore outperformed other trainees in endurance and strength, as she her athleticism allowed her to exceed all standards. Karina also proved to be a formidable fighter during basic hand-to-hand combat training and pugil stick fighting. Karina also scored well during the weapons training course, as she proved herself adept with all standard issue weaponry. Liberatore would graduate from basic training and earned the rank of Corporal, but not before she was approached by Marine and Navy officers who were scouting her. The officers believed that her talents would be best utilized in the UNSC Special Operations Command, and was offered a spot in various special forces units. Liberatore would join the ranks of UNSC Naval Special Warfare Command (NAVSPECWAR).

ORION Project

Induction and Augmentation

In early 2491, the Colonial Military Administration would relaunch the ORION Project , with Section III of the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) providing data and resources to support the program. With the success of the initial 65 test subjects in their training and augmentations, ONI sought out more volunteers for the program. Liberatore was approached with an offer to join, and promptly accepted.

Operation: CHARLEMAGNE

In June 2494, Colonel Robert Watts, a Marine officer who defected, had joined the Secessionist Union and rallied the Insurrectionist movements on the Outer Colony of Eridanus II, equipped by numerous rebel sympathizers and gunrunners within the Colonial Military Administration's command hierarchy. Watts orchestrated a methodical and thorough series of assaults involving terrorist bombings, political assassinations, and kidnappings that impacted Eridanus II's shipping routes. With the aid of their CMA contracts, the insurgents were even able to gather a small fleet of ships. The Eridanus Government officially requested aid from the Unified Earth Government in December of 2494, as chaos spread across the planet. By January of 2495, Watts and his rebel militia had effectively taken control of the colony.
