Juliana-009 was a Spartan-II candidate who survived the dangerous augmentation procedures performed on her in 2525, when she was fourteen years old. She rebelled against her trainers weeks later and escaped from the planet Reach in an attempt to return to her family, from whom she had been kidnapped eight years earlier. She used her sidearm to commit suicide after learning that the ONI had covered up her abduction by replacing her with an identical flash-clone.
Biography
Chldhood and Conscription
Juliana Lawrence was born on the UNSC colony of Sigma Octanus IV in 2511. She was tagged as a genetically and intellectually superior child by the Office of Naval Intelligence and added to a list of potential candidates for the SPARTAN-II supersoldier project. After an interview with Dr. Catherine Halsey at age six, she was confirmed as a candidate and abducted soon afterward. Her disappearance was covered up by the substitution of a flash-clone created from her DNA, identical to her in appearance and possessing flash-transferred memories.
Juliana was taken to a military complex on the planet Reach and forced into boot camp, given the new identity Juliana-009 and brainwashed to become an ideal soldier for the UNSC. Despite the intense training, she held onto her memories of her old life and dreamed of going back to her family. Her teammates-- Daisy-023, Ralph-303, Joseph-122, and Basil-138-- had similar aims, and together they plotted to somehow escape from Reach and go back to their homeworlds.
Escape and Death
Shortly after Juliana turned fourteen, she and the other seventy-four Spartan trainees were subjected to augmentation procedures that killed twenty-seven and disabled twelve. Once she and her team had recovered enough, they enacted their plan, holding some of their doctors and DI's hostage and demanding their freedom from Dr. Halsey. She consented, and together they fled from the complex. They split up at Manassas, one of Reach's spaceports, and Juliana boarded a ship headed for Sigma Octanus IV.
Juliana reached her home in the dead of night and broke into the house, disabling the security system and heading for her old room. There she found a girl who looked exactly like her sleeping in the bed, hooked up to an oxygen tank and various other medical devices. Her mother, who had come to check on the clone, screamed upon seeing Juliana, whose shaved head, augmented physique, and weapon made her look like an armed intruder. When the woman started screaming “Leave my Juliana alone,” the real Juliana fled the scene, heartbroken. She went to a nearby lake and shot herself in the head while standing on a pier. The ONI recovered her body shortly afterward and her name was added to the list of Spartans who had died in surgery to cover up the incident.
