"I've learned many things in my years of service. I've learned what can inspire a soldier to fight. I've learned how to kill from miles away. I've learned how to survive in the worst situations possible. Even to do what is required no matter the deed, but my question is, how do I learn to accept what I've done?"

Johan Egger Helnwein (Old Norse: ᛃᛟᚺᚨᚾ ᛖᚷᚷᛖᚱ ᚺᛖᛚᚾᚹᛖᛁᚾ) is a Spartan-IV marksmen for Fireteam Bison. Born to Maja Helnwein and Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, Kaleb Gallagher, in the mountain city of Uppsala on the colony of to Sedra His father died before his birth and was given his mother's last name instead on his birth certificate. Johan grew up hearing stories of service members and their time in and during service leading him to wanting to become part of the UNSCDF, however, this was soon later on forgotten as he grew older. After passing high school and being unable to keep up with college Johan remembered the stories he was told and decided to enlist with the UNSC Marine Corps and later on joined the ODSTs as a sniper for both branches. After the ending of the war, he wondered if it was time to retire but was later approached and offered a spot within the Spartan Branch with the newly formed Spartan-IVs. He has since served within the UNSC as a Spartan since 2555 with Fireteam Bison under the callsign Bison-Two along with five other Spartans.

Maximillian

Max, Johan Grandfather

Born in the early hours of May 17th, 2526 Johan Egger Helnwein came into this world at the Mountains Touch hospital to only his mother, Maja Helnwein and older sister Kimberly, due to his father's death only three months prior. His Father, Kaleb Gallagher a British Inner Colonies ODST, was killed by accidental friendly fire during a planned raid gone wrong, however, it was blamed on the insurrectionists in the official letter sent to the Helnwein residence due to the UNSC wishing to not allow such an incident to be known to them. Johan grew up rather normally like most kids except for his mother working into the late nights and not getting to see neither him or Kimberly as often as she had liked too. Growing up Johan was close to his grandfather, Max, who became the father figure in his life due to the lack of his real father being around. Max owned a bar in the downtown district of Uppsala and owned an apartment above it, letting his daughter-in-law and her children live with him in it due to being unable to keep up with the bills, because of such spent Max spent much of his time outside of work with Johan. He would go on to teach Johan about the outdoors, spending much of his and his grandsons time hunting, fishing, and camping which would later go on and help Johan survive in wild environments during sniper operations that even boot camp hadn't taught him. as Johan continued to grow up in his hometown, soldiers would frequently visit his grandfather's bar and share the stories of their time on the field during their stationing in the city, Johan would overhear these stories whenever he was downstairs with his grandfather. Such stories had begun to fill his head of being a soldier for the UNSC, this dream, however, would die later on in his pre-teen years. Later on in his life, Johan began to struggle in school and found himself barely passing most of his classes, except for a few. Even after such troubles he still passed high school and attempted to go to the local community college only to drop out after his first semester, before he could worry about what to do next, he came across a military recruitment drive going on in the college's main office, as he went to just see what was there to offer he began talking to the Marine recruiter and the stories came flooding back to him, seeing he had no other choice he accepted the recruiters offer to join the Marines. His family was rather upset about his sudden decision, but seeing that he old enough to make his own decisions they still supported his actions. Johan was then sent to the Unified Combined Military Boot Camp in Sedras' capital where he would be assigned to Dog Company of the 21st Infantry Battalion.

"When I finished signing the papers to drop out of college, I felt lost, or so I thought. There was a military recruitment event going on, and what started out as curiosity ended with me joining the Marines."
― Johan on starting in the military.

The Marine Corps Era

First Combat/Attack on Shield Wall Base

"Most privates got to spend part of their first week learning everything about their new base. I, however, got to spend part of my first week fighting the enemy I was trained against."
―Johan
UNSC Base Shield Wall on the planet Tyurbash

After thirteen weeks of training, Johan finally became a Marine for the UNSC and was soon shipped off to serve for the UEG. His first deployment sent him to the colony of Tyurbash, a planet known for both it's endless mountains and light but also endless winters. The base on the small planet, Shield Wall, was a massive armory and depot meant to resupply the front line on both equipment and soldiers in a short time. However, the war was about to come to the base itself as Covenant forces discovered Tyurbash's location and sent an invading army to it. On the afternoon of November 12th, 2544, three days after Johans' arrival. A Covenant CSO Class Supercarrier named Salvation from Heresy appeared from slipspace and began it's invasion. While many of its forces attacked the small villages and cities in the mountains. It focused most of them on the base, leading to an all-out attack on the base, cutting off not only support for the villages but access to get them evacuated, leaving only the occupants on the base a chance to escape. Johan, like many of the new arrivals on the base they had yet to taste real combat that wasn't simulations or practice, but still, they took to arms and went to fight the Covenant head-on. Armed with his standard issued MA5B ICWS Assault Rifle Johan was given the order, along with the rest of the 21st Infantry Battalion, to hold back the coming forces while both evacuations and reinforcements were prepared.

"Sources claim the attack on the base was the first time a Norse God's name was uttered. "Týr" name was heard as the Covenant approached their position."
― Official statement on Johans presumed Norse Beliefs.
Shield Wall engagement 1

A young Pvt. Helnwein holds back Covenant forces.

After the Covenant made it onto the base perimeter, Johan was part of the first wave of defense that was recorded to have taken heavy casualties within five minutes but was capable of wiping out a good amount of the Covenant forces due to explosives artillery use authorized but was still forced to fall back to the base. Johan along with a few other survivors who made it back began to set up a defensive line in the north tunnel. Due to the bases, few tunnels being it's the only entrance and its anti-air weaponry keeping the skies clear for evacuations. Defending the inside of the base was easier for them as they were capable of collapsing all but one tunnel, forcing Covenant ground forces to move through the north tunnel and into a Killzone guarded by multiple M247H machine guns and small arms weapons, earning the short-lived nickname "Tunnel of Lead". The Tunnel held back covenant forces long enough for a majority of the base to be evacuated but was broken through in three days after other forces sent into the villages finished and went to join in the base assault. Johan was part of the Tunnel of Lead group and was back at the base gathering ammunition when they broke through. After hearing the base was lost, he was ordered to join the last evacuation squad and escaped on November 16th, 2544 over 60% of the personnel of the base were capable of evacuating into safe territory. UNSC Base Shield Wall and Tyurbash were fully glassed on the evening of that same day. Because of the events of Tyurbash Johan would begin his fall into the philosophy of "Survival of the Fittest" due to witnessing of experienced soldiers being killed after hesitating in certain actions and newly trained soldiers showing their worth on the field.

Operation: Knife Patch

"I'm not allowed to talk about what happened during Operation: Knife Patch, but it's something I won't stop thinking about. If anything I learned how to always question loyalty even at the slightest crack."
―part of the log entry of Spartan Helnwein on the 9-year anniversary of Operation Knife Patch.

Operation: Knife Patch, or unofficially referred to as Betrayal Day by the surviving operators that were involved in the mission that was an off the record recovery turned demolition op led by both ONI and FleetCOM.

The civilian space station turned habitat, Pioneer Station, found itself caught in the war against the Insurrectionist in 2499. In response to this Pioneer Station offered itself to the UNSC and allowed them to store both supplies and soldiers there in case they were ever needed within a quick amount of time, in reality, it was serving the Insurrectionists as many of the people on the station already held Anti-UNSC and UEG ideas. Because many new soldiers were sent to them, it was easy to convince most of them to join the Insurrectionist and act as double agents to help their cause from the inside, because of this they were able to gather inside knowledge of certain tactics and movements, however, in order to ensure that the UNSC wouldn't catch on they would purposely ignore valuable information if the outcome wouldn't damage their plans greatly. This had worked for decades until a poorly encrypted message was sent from the habitat informing the receiver that plans to disrupt the UNSC supply chain to and from Reach with a stolen nuclear device was about to be put into motion, how the Insurrectionists were capable of recovering such a device is still unknown. After the discovery of Pioneer Station's deception ONI was left furious and plans to siege the habitat began immediately to recover both the nuclear device and anyone tied to the plans of the bombing. Original plans had called for the Spartan-IIs but due to the Covenants' constant activity in other locations, they were instead forced to deploy ODSTs and marines that were carefully chosen for both secrecy and loyalty.

Pioneer Station

Pioneer Station was formed by hollowing out a asteroid close to the size of Ceres. in the outer colonies

"...My highest concern here Lord Hood is not the innocents who will be caught in the crossfire, but my concern here is to remove these traitors and stop the plans that have been set. Heavy casualties will be no doubt expected on both ends, but it must be done. I will be expecting any evidence of such to stay out of the public eye. So we will be sending in those we see fit to handle this sort of task I understand we don't know who to trust at this moment, but if FleetCOM has faith in these operators, so I must too. I expect no mistakes."
―Part of the message sent from Margaret Parangosky to Lord Terrance Hood over Operation: Knife Patch.
ONI File

The last photo taken from combat footage of Johan and the surviving marine was examined by ONI. Examination showed that Johan was capable of potentially joining the ODSTs.

After plans were made for the operation Johan and his platoon was sent to Pioneer Station with the 3rd ODST platoon of the 15th Shock Troops Battalion. A total of 65 men and women were picked by FleetCOM for this mission with only nine returning, three marines, and six ODSTs. Much of the files and after-action reports of this event are kept in high-level areas under the eyes of ONI, due to a fear of leakage. However, survivors have written in personal logs about their participation with some going into detail about their experiences.

The attack on Pioneer station began with the Strident class heavy frigate "O.K. Corral II", carrying modified pelicans with troop deployment pods, opened fire on the station to draw attention so that troopers along with their marine support could reach the insertion point to begin their assault. Insurrectionist forces attempting to evacuate important individuals, four station council members within the community along and two commanders, from the station clashed with deployed units inside the hangar erupting into a firefight. During the shoot out one of the council members personal ship that was planning to escape had it's left engine destroyed before it could escape. The ship, along with council members and one commander were killed when the ship crashed into the control deck, causing the system to open the hangar doors into open space forcing 37 UNSC operators and the surviving insurrectionist militia into space until the failsafe activated and closing the hangar off for evacuation.

"What I once saw as the beauty of space was now the empty cold void of no mercy, the look I saw on Sgt. Gennie's face as she was taken by it through her helmet. Makes me wish I could have been ground side so I didn't have to look at her."
― part of Major William Heathfords personal log three days after Operation: Knife Patch

After the brief interruption in the hangar, a headcount was taken only to find twenty-seven soldiers had survived the incident, leaving them with only 55% of their team left. It was decided upon and reports of the O.K. Corral II being attacked by fighters returning from patrol that the survivors would separate into four groups and search the areas believed to house the nuke. The Marketplace, Engineer Bay, Armory, and the Councils chamber. Johan along with three marines and three ODSTs were sent to check the Marketplace. The area was considered the most dangerous area due to it's Favela like setting in the lower districts. As the group arrived in the area, the Marines were tasked with sweeping the houses and shops while the Troopers went to check the marketplace. Troopers soon found the nuke, but had walked into a trap as they were ambushed when they attempted to recover it. The Marines began to make their way back to the troopers but were soon attacked by a second squad of insurrectionists from the buildings, pinning them down. Seeing they need to move, Johan split away from his team without their knowledge and entered the houses on the left side of the alley they were attacked on and began to sweep the rooms in order to reach the other side. Before he could reach the vantage point Johan was jumped by an older and more experienced male in a living room stopping him from getting to his destination and kicking his rifle away from him.

Innsurectionist: "You're a long way from your mommy, boy. Guess she'll have to learn her child died screaming."
Johan: "the only screaming there'll be is the final breath leaving your slit throat"
Innsurectionist: " Poor choice of words to die by."
Johan: "'Til Valhöll."
— Last words spoken between Johan and his attacker.

The two rushed at each other after their brief conversation and wrestled with each other for dominance over the other to land a killing blow, Johan, however, was losing the fight as he was being treated like a ragdoll, he began to struggle getting himself up and almost gave in to his defeat until he noticed a radiator running in the corner of the room, seeing no other choice he quickly lunged towards his attacker and began to focus on knocking the man off balance. Once he was able to do so and was able to knock the attacker onto his back Johan grabbed the man by his head and slammed it repeatedly into the wall. He was thrown off soon after and made his way to the corner of the room with the radiator, with his attacker disoriented and angry he lunged for Johan who jumped out of the way and came up from behind, kicking him off balance again and face-first into the radiator, where Johan quickly claimed dominance and forced the mans head against it, after a few seconds the man stopped struggling, wanting to finish the fight for good. Johan produced his knife and slit the man's throat. After catching his breath he gathered up his rifle and headed towards the balcony where he opened fire on the militia forces, opening the path up to reach the troopers.

Joining the Battle of Actium

"...If there's any place I would say that has been the closest to killing me, it would be Actium. Nothing will ever come close to that sea of explosions and fire and that's coming from a Spartan."
―Part of an entry in Johan's journal while recovering from a wound in the UNSC Infinity Infirmary Bay.

The Hercelcia engagement

A year had passed since Johan had joined the UNSC, and he was slowly gaining more and more experience from battles and events against both the Covenant and the Insurrectionists, however, he had never suffered a major injury other than the occasional plasma burn or a bullet wound. He had no real experience with coming close to death until the Battle of Actium where he was nearly killed and was taken out of the field for three months. It began with the Covenant invasion on May 2545, Johan's battalion was one of the first forces deployed alongside the 53rd Armored Division to stop the Covenant invasion on the planet. Seeing the Covenant had already set up and was pushing in on many of the cities, a plan was deployed to slow them down long enough for the Armored Division to arrive and push them back. The 21st Infantry Battalion deployed their companies in the more important areas crucial to slowing the Covenant back. Arrow Company was assigned to the city of Hercelcia and had decided that instead of meeting them head-on they would instead lure them into the more tight spaces of the city and attack from there. A squad of ten marines volunteered to go bring the Covenant in while the rest of the Company set up traps by using Satchel charges planted on the abandoned cars and having machine gunner positions hiding the buildings overlooking the streets where the Covenant would be lured in.

Street planning

Arrow Company's leader speaks with an ODST runner about the current plans of their position.

After thirty minutes of setting up, the volunteers returned with the Covenant not too far behind, soldiers got into position and was met with the incoming forces. grunt suicide bombers were the first to engage as they ran towards the Company, while many of the bombers were killed, four broke through and was able to kill thirteen marines in the process while also causing some of the satchels to detonate prematurely. After the failed suicide charge, the rest of the forces came forward and engaged with the Company. During the beginning of the fight, Johan's rifle began jamming and seeing he didn't have time to fix it, switched to his sidearm and began firing which soon forced him to fix his rifle's issue as the sidearm ammo was used up rather quickly, by the time Johan rifle was fixed a fallback was ordered as Wraiths began firing on the area, destroying three of the Machine gun positions. Luckily the other charges were still available and were detonated once the Wraiths were next to them, destroying the Covenant's only available support at the moment. Reinforcements were on the way, but they still needed a few more minutes to arrive. During the fight, elites flanked their left position, Johan was caught in the flank and was forced to turn his attention to the flanking enemies. During the fight Johan was charged by an elite Major and grabbed, seeing a live elite up close for the first time, Johan had to act quick and pulled out his service knife and stabbed the elite in his neck and followed up by shoving it through the roof of its mouth once it roared out in pain. After pulling himself back together from the encounter, Johan was ordered by the Captain to retrieve the detonator from the fallen soldier in the middle of the street to set off the final satchel charges. While Johan disagreed with the Captain's order, he followed it none the less and ran out into the gunfire to retrieve in, after grabbing the detonator and making his way back he was struck in the leg by the shrapnel of a frag grenade thrown too close to him by one of the machine gunner positions forcing him to find cover before inside the danger zone before he could set off the charges. After being able to take cover behind a moving truck, the charges were set off and wiped out a majority of the remaining forces causing them to retreat. Not only were the Marines able to hold back the Covenant forces, but they were able to cut off one of the Covenants routes, however, this would prove useless the next day as the Covenant were able to break through two of the other positions and set up their staging areas.

Ambush on Highyway 22

A few days had passed since the engagement at Hercelcia, UNSC forces were dwindling quickly as the Covenant kept pushing through each defense and taking more and more land. Supplies were also dwindling quickly as well, with each plan failing another had to be more desperate than the last in order to win the battle. Johan, however, would not be around to see the entire battle as he suffered his first major wound on Actium. During a supply run to one of the lines fighting with the Covenant a squad of Banshees ambushed the convoy made up of six Warthogs was quickly cut down to four as two supply hogs were destroyed by Banshee bombs. Johan was stationed on the rear warthogs M41 Vuclan and began firing at the pursuers. Two of the Banshees were destroyed in the retaliation but it wasn't enough as another bombardment was fired at them, The Warthogs escaped through the tunnels but lost another in the escape. Trouble would continue to follow as they soon found themselves colliding with a Company of Covenant forces heading towards the line to attack from behind. Plasma and bullets were soon traded between the sides as the Warthogs engaged the enemy as they were forced to stop and deal with it, while the company suffered major casualties and were forced to retreat the Warthogs were damaged badly and a majority of the remaining supplies were destroyed. Johan's warthog went into a pursuit of the retreating forces but it would prove to be a mistake as an elite dropped a plasma grenade before he was killed. The Warthog came to a screeching halt and the driver lost control as it got to close and was caught in the blast. The vehicle was unable to take the blast and exploded, Johan was thrown from the Warthog before it's destruction but he was still too close as he was hit with scrap and fire. Left badly wounded and seeing the supplies would be unable to be used, the last two split up and Johan was loaded up and taken back to the Command Center, where he would be treated and later evacuated with the rest of the wounded to a safer area to recover. Johan found himself out of service for three months and was considered for retriment as the wounds would have thought to have left him unfit for service, but he was able to make a full recovery, it was also with his return to service he was granted a promotion to Lance Corporal.

Injury sheet

Johan's injury report sheet after surviving his critical condition.

"...The patient is considered lucky to be even breathing right now. An obvious view shows third-degree burns on parts of the body. Highlighted parts on the record are locations of fractures, broken bones, or serious lacerations. The patient was unconscious on arrival and was nearly lost a few times while on the table to be stabilized for further evacuation to a more capable are for further care. There was a punctured left lung found during the stabilization to which bio-foam was used so that other areas could be focused on. At 13:27 the patient was stabilized and awaited evacuation from Actrium. The kid should be considered lucky, most people don't last this long from such wounds, but then again...people have always survived the odds now and then, but they don't survive it twice not unless they got an ace up their sleeve."
―Personal log of Dr. Rick Delosso on the case no. A5329-RD

Return to service/Beginning of the sniper career

"Don't fear the soldier you see, fear the soldier you can't see, and always fear the soldier who you will never see."
―Unknown

After nearly three months in a military hospital, Johan was released back into the war, while many soldiers would go right back to the front line he instead volunteered to attend a scout sniper basic course. Before he could, however, he was required to retake the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test, to achieve the required score to take the sniper training course. Thankfully he was able to achieve the requires score and was given permission to attend the classes on Reach at the Military Wilderness Training Preserve on one the facilities dedicated to sniper training. Johan's training was only nine weeks long to hurry and get the soldiers back into the field. Johan excelled greatly in the course and ended being in the top three of his class. On October 31st, 2545 Johan was now a scout sniper for the Marines and was transferred to a new company in his battalion, Dog Company. After being given his new equipment and weapon, a Sniper Rifle System 99C-S2 Anti-Matériel. His new company would find him closer to the frontlines even when he wasn't directly fighting the enemy. During one of his many deployments as a sniper, Johan would write a poem that would later be known as Just a Rifle and become a rather popular poem among UNSC armed forces as it was shared although no one would remember it's origins later on.

Dog Company Snipers

Dog Company's badge.

"
Just a Rifle, no more no less.
Just a rifle doing it's best.
To keep whatever peace has been left.
The damn thing doesn't even have a name.
Among the hell that took it as a claim.
Its just a rifle they will say.
Not a man awaiting a grave.
"
―Part of the famous poem Just a Rifle, anonymously written by Johan

Defense of New Hiroshima Part I: Scouting Party

UNSC winter armor

This specialized Marine armor was made for soldiers who would have to venture into harsh cold conditions. Many of these suits are assigned to sniper teams due to constant use by them on the battlefield in required conditions.

On November 3rd, 2545. The Covenant had stumbled upon the small farming colony of Fuyu during their push into the Inner Colonies by sending a Covenant frigate under the name "Holy Blades of Purge" to chase after the damaged UNSC heavy carrier "One More Shot" while the remaining fleet pushed onward. The carrier found itself at Fuyu when the ship's navigation systems malfunctioned and instead took them to said colony. When the ship came out of orbit it quickly landed and prepared for a war on its surface. an hour later the Covenant soon arrived and launched an invasion of the planet. Fuyu was going through its winter season and blizzards were a common sight on the planet. This would allow the UNSC to better prepare as vehicles would be unable to move around in the blizzard. The UNSC, however, needed to know what was coming as a lack of any intel would prove fatal for them. Johan and five other men from Dog Company were chosen to venture out into the cold and hike towards the Covenant's last spotted location and gather any intel that would help prepare the defense. The hike would take over two hours to reach their destination, after arriving at their destination it became clear that the Covenant themselves were also struggling to operate in the blizzard, the scout's mission would be put on a halt however as the weather made it incapable of gathering photos and videos clear enough to use and examine. Seeing they had no other choice, the scouts began digging into the snow to avoid much of the harsh cold as possible until clearer weather would show what they needed to gather.

Climbers

One of the scouts seen climbing up the mountainside.

As the blizzard showed no signs of letting up, a risk was agreed on by the scouts to push deeper into enemy territory to find a better view and the only one was on top of a cliff overlooking the base. It was an estimated three-hour hike to the position, but no other choice was seen for the scouts other than to return empty-handed while still having a chance to prepare. the hike itself was more dangerous than the mission at times, being forced to climb up iced over mountains and many other dangerous environmental hazards that had plagued them, during the final climb to their position the ice began to crack and had caused one of the climbers to fall to his death after his pick had come loose, the body was never found and the scouts were forced to continue on. After reaching the destination it was easier to use the thermal equipment to better spot and capture intel. However, during the gathering of information, a banshee patrol had spotted the men on the ridge and opened fire, alerting the entire base of the scout's presence. Johan and two other snipers volunteered to stay behind and cover them while the rest escaped with the data. Using the lack of vision to their advantage the scouts kept moving with each shot, except Johan. He dug himself into the snow and began firing, but with a purpose. Johan began targeting spotters and other marksmen that were calling them out never moving once after his shots. After what seemed like hours, the remaining squad retreated back to base. The information gathered had revealed the Covenant were planning to move in once the storm had calmed down enough to where they could move through it leaving much of their equipment and supplies all in one spot, thanks to this info longswords were able to bomb the surrounding site from orbit and force the Covenant into a defensive tactic as avalanches caused by the shockwaves of bombs buried their equipment. Johan was applauded his bravery, or insanity by some Commanding Officers, and was given the nickname "Statue".

"Crazy. Crazy was the only way to describe it. His IFF tag never moved, neither did he. It was like he was frozen completely, but still firing away, each shot finding its spot no matter how dangerously close he was nearly hit, it didn't bother him."
―Cpt. Archie, leader of the Dog Company scouting party.

Defense of New Hiroshima Part II: "The Iron Line"

With the majority of the Covenant equipment lost the UNSC was left with not only a major opportunity to go on the offensive, but an advantage in numbers as well, but the Covenant was not ready to change tactics yet. After the blizzard had finally passed and made things easier to operate in. The Covenant Shipmaster in charge, Syg 'Movumee, made a decision based on blind anger due to the loss in such a humiliating way, to send whatever was left of his forces to charge the city and destroy it. While lower ranks attempted to talk him out of it, Syg kept to his decision and ordered the charge. at 21:34, Covenant forces attacked the outskirts of the city in full force, but the UNSC were already prepared to clash with them as an entire trench-like defense was set up blocking them from entering the city. The Covenant was halted from going any further until they could breakthrough, for four days and three nights, The UNSC would continue to halt the Covenant while trading intense fire with each other back and forth, Both humanity The Covenant would call this position "The Iron Line", and its story would serve as another reminder of the integrity of humanity in the genocidal campaign against them.

Day I

When the Covenant began their assault, Syg wanted to prove he was still worth his position and decided to send only ground forces in the attack to prove himself. When the attack had first started, the UNSC at the time had decided to set up a checkpoint in the less populated area of the city as it was the only way the Covenant would be able to come through, while it wasn't fully armored until the next day, it was still able to hold off the Covenant for some time. Johan was assigned to guard duty on one of the watchtowers when the attack began. A squad of elites charged the checkpoint and had caught a group of marines dealing with a flipped warthog off guard, Johan began to provide overwatch and gave the marines time to grab their weapons and fight off the first wave.

Winter marines

The battle begins as Covenant start their assault on the checkpoint.

As the UNSC were alerted to the Covenants assault, Johan along with three other snipers began picking off targets from the towers while soldiers down below began locking down the area and setting up turrets and mortars. Reinforcements were called to the checkpoint, but it would take nearly half an hour to load up supplies and arrive, leaving the area weakened and relying on the soldiers on duty to hold out.

The necklace

A traditional necklace of Thor's hammer, Mjölnir, given to the youths of Sedrans who follow the old path. as a symbol of protection of both them and their belongings.

"Til Valhöll!"
―Sedra's offical warcry of both UNSC enlisted and Sedran Colonial Guard meaning "To Valhalla".

Like many others of Sedra, Johan is a follower and believer of the Norse faith and like many people, Johan chose a certain god to mostly follow and worship along with the others. His chosen God being Týr, the god of both justice and war. Johan is a firm believer in justice through proper means. Along with being a god of war, Johan seeks Týr to guide him through the warzone and deliver him to victory against both man and alien until it's his time to die. However, Johan's time in the war has caused him to develop a sense of justice through immoral means if necessary but still has great respect for the law and order.

"You see all these people thinking they are one of us, but they know nothing of our history or beliefs. They just say it because they think it makes them stand out or they follow the wrong ideas. They are not one of us, and they never will be. It is just an insult to our faith in the end."
―Johan views on those who blindly call themself Norse.

Johan like many other warriors wish to find a spot in Valhalla upon their deaths with those who came before them, but Johan believes that a warrior who stumbles upon a worthy death shall surely enter the halls than those who purposely seek it. Because of this belief, Johan like many of his brothers and sisters in arms has no fear of death and instead are prepared to welcome it, Sedrans have a certain term they call each other while in service, "Shield-Brothers/Sisters". It is considered a great honor when an "outsider" is given this term. Along with that, Sedrans are referred to as "Pagans". It receives mixed reception as some find it to be insulting while others welcome it. Johan is part of the group that welcomes it, as he believes they are still considered such, but knows that people fear what they don't understand.

Trivia

Johan is indeed a remake of the now-deleted page, Blake Karmyn. This is due to finding much of the article being rather edgy and not too impressive, of course, some of the info that was worth scrapping was saved and brought back or is planning to come back into the remake.

The Japanese Proverb found in the Invasion of Fuyu means that the enviorment shall make our character.
