In the decades before the Interplanetary Conflict and the advent of the United Nations Space Command, thirty-seven international cruisers were built by various members and coalitions of members of the United Nations. A further eighty-four were commissioned during the conflict, serving first in the United Nations Space Authority and then in the UNSC.

Cruisers, along with heavy destroyers and light destroyers, were not officially designated as such until 2110. The further diversification of the cruiser fleet into light cruisers and heavy cruisers did not occur until 2145. The construction of the Charlemagne, completed in 2157, brought with it the title of super-heavy cruiser, a classification few other human cruisers would claim throughout the next four centuries. In sixty-three years, 121 international cruisers were completed: 2 super-heavy cruisers, 37 heavy cruisers, 81 light cruisers, and a single stealth cruiser.

The UNSC Achievement was commissioned in June 2103. Designed and constructed at the behest of the Chinese government from 2097 to 2103, the Achievement measured 716 meters, outgunned every contemporary space warship aside from the Earth One battleships, and could outrun practically every ship in the system at the time of completion. The UN Space Authority officially designated the Achievement as a cruiser in August 2103 after the new ship spent forty-five days as a "large enforcement security ship". While the Achievement was soon outclassed by new cruisers in the following two decades, it was only reclassified as a light cruiser after the commissioning of the Enterprise in July 2142.
The Achievement was in commission for 88 years, surviving the Interplanetary War and winning several victories against Frieden and Koslovic forces alike. The cruiser was decommissioned in 2191 with considerable fanfare and was subsequently sold to the Lunar Space Warfare Museum. The cruiser was installed in the Lunar Naval Exhibition in 2202, where it remains.

The UNSC Union was commissioned in February 2104. The cruiser was designed under the auspices of a European coalition and was built from 2099 to 2104 and was originally envisioned as a flagship for the new Bordeaux-class heavy security ships that were also under construction and began entering service in 2102. Following the designation of the Achievement as a cruiser in August 2103, the Union was reclassified as a cruiser prior to completion. Like the Achievement and the other cruisers that entered service between 2103 and 2137, the Union was reclassified as a light cruiser after the introduction of the heavy cruisers of the 2140s.
The Union escorted transports and cargo ships during the Jovian Crisis, intercepted several Frieden and Koslovic sympathetic freighters in 2161 and 2162, and took part in suppressing Lunar uprisings in 2163. While the Union was not present at either the UNSA Mars Expedition in December 2163 or the vicious Battle of the Martian Moons in March 2164, the cruiser was instrumental in the capture of a unique incomplete Frieden cruiser in late 2164; the captured ship was later completed by the UNSC and entered service in 2165 as the UNSC Condottieri. The Union joined the UNSC Jupiter Expeditionary Fleet in July 2165 as it traversed the Belt en route to Jovian Space and took part in the Fleet action of 2165. After arriving in Jovian Space, the Union conducted several actions against Frieden forces before being assigned to the Europa Task Force. In early August 2166, the Union raced to the assistance of a beleaguered convoy underway to Europa that was under attack by a sizable Frieden raiding force; with the convoy's escorts damaged or disabled, the Union charged into action and took on the Frieden ships alone. The cruiser suffered tremendous damage as its point defenses were overwhelmed by heavy fire from multiple opponents, the Union gave as good as it got, destroying five enemy ships and damaging three others. With the convoy now safely out of reach and the Union continuing to attack aggressively despite its battering, the remaining Frieden ships abandoned the attack and fled. The valiant action of the Union was credited with saving the lives of thousands of UNSC soldiers aboard troopships. While the battered cruiser was towed first to Ceres and then to Mars, the damage was ultimately judged to be effectively irreparable, and the ship was decommissioned in October 2166.

The UNSC Gagarin was commissioned in January 2107. Designed by the Russian Kapustin-Nevzorov space warfare team, construction was started in late 2101. Larger than either the Achievement or the Union by over a hundred meters and carrying nearly a hundred more crew, the Gagarin was intended as a testament of Russian capabilities in the twenty-second century. After the previous cancellations of the security ships Novik (2099) and Surovy (2101), the Gagarin more than made up for its predecessors' shortcomings and carried an enlarged arsenal of missiles, guns, and point defenses, complemented by heavier armor plating than most its contemporaries.
The Gagarin was damaged beyond repair in battle in 2167.

The UNSC Columbia was commissioned in July 2107. Proposed by the URNA Space Force as early as 2087, the cruiser had undergone considerable revision before construction started in 2102. Built by the prominent North American Superior (NAS), the Columbia was smaller and less armored than the recently completed Gagarin, but boasted tremendous speed and maneuverability. The Columbia was the fastest ship in the fleet until the commissioning of the light cruiser Bonaventure in 2142 by an extremely thin margin. While the cruiser lacked the armor plating of the Gagarin, the Columbia did possess a reinforced internal structure and armored internal compartments. Quite unlike the later NAS-built New York destroyers, the Columbia was noted for its substantial crew comforts and amenities.
The cruiser was patrolling the belt at the start of the Jovian Crisis but was quickly assigned to escorting convoys between the Inner System and the Jovian Moons. The Columbia returned to the belt and took part in several interdiction operations from late 2160 to early 2163. In November 2163, the Columbia returned to Earth and was assigned to the UNSA Mars Expeditionary Fleet and was present for December assault on Mars. The Columbia took part in the subsequent Battle of the Martian Moons in March 2164 and suffered tremendous damage while engaging Frieden forces. The Columbia, crippled and broken, was docked at Phobos after the battle, evaluated, and judged to be irreparably damaged. The cruiser was decommissioned and scrapped on site, though elements were salvaged and preserved.

The UNSC Prosperity was commission in June 2110. Ordered a year after the completion of the Achievement, the cruiser was the second Chinese design to enter service. The design of the Prosperity placed a greater emphasis on range and firepower, providing an aggressive suite of missiles, batteries, and point defenses, alongside light armor plating and cavernous storage for provisions, ammunition, and other supplies. While the cruiser could not compete with the whirlwind speed of the Achievement, Columbia, or Union, the Prosperity could conduct longer unsupported patrols across the system, theoretically for months longer than any contemporary cruiser.
The Prosperity was assigned to Mars Force in early 2160 and was quickly assigned to escort Department of Peace forces to Jovian Space in March 2160 following the outbreak of the Jovian Crisis. The cruiser remained active in Jovian Space for the duration of the crisis, intercepting would-be raiders and defending commercial shipping and arriving convoys. The Prosperity spent most of the subsequent eight years on patrol in the Belt, dealing with Frieden and Koslovic forces alike. As part of the UNSC reaction Force, the cruiser hammered Koslovic forces three times during the Battle of Ceres in October 2164. While the Prosperity was not present for major engagements like the Martian Moons in March 2164 or the Jovian Action in August 2165, the cruiser saw considerable action during the war and destroyed, damaged, or captured more than a hundred enemy ships. In November 2169, the Prosperity faced off with Frieden forces an absurd seven times in five days, with the last engagement finally crippling the cruiser on November 11. Towed to Ceres and given a heroes' welcome, the cruiser was nevertheless given low priority due to the extent of the damage done to it, and its crew were reassigned to two new Allegiance-class light cruisers, namely the Solar Emperor and Radiant Dawn. Still undergoing limited work in March 2170, the Prosperity was finally declared irreparably damaged and was stricken after fifty-nine years. The old cruiser was slowly scrapped in its old homeport of Ceres, with several sections of the Prosperity salvaged and preserved across the colony.

The UNSC Eagle was commissioned in September 2121. Ordered by the United Republic of North America and built by North American Superior (NAS), the Eagle was the largest and most powerful cruiser of its day, matched only by its half-sister the Sentinel, which was completed just under a year later. Both the Eagle and the Sentinel began construction in 2117 with the specific intention of pairing overwhelming firepower with speed and maneuverability. The construction of these cruisers triggered a rush for more increasingly ambitious cruiser designs as well as the drive to build space battleships. Greatly concerned about a sudden and uncontrolled militarization of space by competing national interests, the Unified Earth Government and the UN Security Council forced through the 2120 Cruiser Moratorium, prohibiting the construction of additional cruisers for the next two decades. Both the Eagle and the Sentinel, already at 80% and 70% completion respectively, were exempted and allowed to be commissioned into the UNSA Fleet.
The Eagle sported an arsenal of missiles, batteries, and point defense systems, all clad in reinforced plate.
The Eagle was destroyed by Frieden forces in August 2165 during the Jovian Action.

The internationally-built Accordance-class cruisers were commissioned from 2123 to 2128, excluding two additional groups of Accordance cruisers ordered in the 2160s. The Accordance-class set the standard performance expectations for subsequent UNSC cruisers. In all, the first group commissioned comprised eight cruisers: Accordance (2123), Tranquility (2124), Resolve (2124), Harmony (2125), Serenity (2126), Balance (2127), Justice (2128), and Purpose (2128). Two additional groups were ordered in 2160 and 2162 with a slightly modified design. Of the first eight Accordance cruisers, only Harmony and Tranquility survived the war. Both cruisers were placed in reserve in 2175 and remained there until 2285, when Harmony was sold for scrapping and Tranquility was sold as a museum ship to the Military Monuments Association of Europa.

The first heavy cruiser of the UNSA and UNSC, the American-built Enterprise had a comparable impact to that of the HMS Dreadnought more than two centuries earlier. Following its official commission in 2142, all prior cruisers would be retroactively reclassified as light cruisers within a few years, and the distinction between heavy cruisers and light cruisers would become a point of debate for the next three centuries, both within the UNSC and in academic discourse. The Enterprise was crippled in battle in 2167 and was subsequently scrapped. Following a lengthy conversion effort, the ex-destroyer Vigilance was commissioned into the UNSA Fleet as a light cruiser in 2162. While critics and some historians have contested the designation, instead arguing that the Vigilance was a "stealthy light cruiser", "experimental scout ship", or even properly a prowler, the UNSC has stood by its classification of the Vigilance as a light cruiser. Not aiding this dispute was the assignment of the Vigilance to the Office of Naval Intelligence in 2177 as ONI's first mobile headquarters and later as the flagship of the ONI stealth project. Ultimately replaced by the UNSC In Desert and Wilderness, the Vigilance was decommissioned in 2231 and scrapped.

Nevertheless, by 2166 the aging light cruiser had been relegated to the Earth defense fleet, mostly for use as a training ship. Achievement officially became a cadet training cruiser in 2171 and remained as such for the next twenty years before ultimately being retired in 2191. UNSC Achievement was not scrapped, however, and joined the Lunar Museum Reserve as the earliest warship in the collection.

Two additional flights of eight cruisers each were authorized in the early 2160s. The Accordance design measured 880 meters long, carried 60 missiles (10 Aggressor and 50 Stalwart), and was crewed by 378 personnel. Of the twenty-four Accordance-class light cruisers completed, nine were lost in battle during the Interplanetary War: Balance in 2164, Above and Beyond, Approaching Storm, Resolve, and Serenity in 2165, Ever Towards Light and Purpose in 2166, Song of Vengeance in 2169, and Beyond Endurance in 2170. A further seven Accordance cruisers were damaged beyond repair and subsequently withdrawn from service: Accordance and Justice in 2164, Answerable to Honor and Heart of Courage in 2165, Song of Lamentation in 2167, Not But Fury in 2168, and God Give Me Wings! in 2170. The remaining eight cruisers survived the war, eventually being decomissioned and scrapped or sold as museum ships.
