The Independence-Class was a new generation of Light Carriers, unlike her Water-Counterparts, this class is mainly operated in space and in the atmosphere in planets. The class was a purpose-built fleet support carrier designed to project power throughout human space without the need for extensive battle groups. The Independence projected power in the UNSC as one of the Navy's most successful Light Carrier classes within UNSC history, as early as the Insurrection.
