The Human Space, also known as the Human Sphere, is the name given to the entire astrogeographical region attributed to the areas of space administrated by a human-centric faction. By legal definition, this encompasses any human colony which was originally colonised by a United Earth Government-approved charter and whose population still consists predominately of humans. Ranging more than a hundred lightyears at its longest point, it is subdivided into four main regions - the Core, Inner, and Outer Colonies, and the Border Worlds, with the last being divided further between the Lost Colonies and the Bastion Worlds. It finally ends at roughly ten lightyears from the furthest inhabited colony or habitat, where the widely-recognised Homo Interstellar Boundary marks the end of the UEG's power. This is fairly fluid, however, with the claims of allied sovereign powers reducing it to as little as three lightyears.

While it has matured from centuries of refinements from scholars, many new issues must now be addressed. For example, while Human Space encompasses rebelled colonies and stations, it does not take into account planets settled by particularly large Insurrectionist organisations. In addition, recent evidence of a still-functioning prehistoric human empire has yet to be addressed. Finally, the UEG's refusal to acknowledge the independence of hostile or even some allied Covenant remnants is correctly assumed to continue leading to war whenever disputes arise over territory. As these problems will no doubt limit the space where their authority is powerful and true, it is believed these issues will persist for decades before being fully resolved.

Divisions

Core Colonies

Also known as simply "the Core", the Core Colonies encompasses every system within twelve lightyears of the Sol system. It is renowned for its extremely heavily-developed planets whose extreme loyalty to Earth has given them enormous power and influence. These planets are so heavily-populated that almost half of the entire UEG's population is situated in this region. As expected, these planets are each protected by massive defensive fortifications that makes each of them resilient enough to fend off invading fleets composed of hundreds of ships. As proven during the Human-Covenant War, even these units can be overcome.
