Welcome one and all to the Sixteenth Annual Halo Fanon Wikia Awards for 2023. We are honoured by your attendance to this annual community awards ceremony and celebration, the sixteenth and certainly not the last of its kind. This project is coordinated by the Halo Fanon Wiki Administration, and would not be possible without the hard work of our community this year.
We look forward to your participation in this community-wide celebration, and hope that you will all participate! Now, read the regulations, nominate your favourite articles, and vote!
Regulations
- Nominations begin at around 12:00 AM midnight UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) on December 1st, 2023 and voting begins at the same time on December 15th. It will conclude promptly around 12:00 AM midnight UTC on December 31st, 2023! Any exceptions to this are listed below. Final winners will be announced and receive their awards on January 1st, 2024!
- Voting Qualifications: Users eligible to nominate and vote must have been users for at least four weeks and have sixty or more mainspace edits in order to vote. Because of the style of this ceremony, sockpuppets and sock masters are not invited, and will be promptly banned from the Wiki and barred from future voting. Newer users who spam edits just to gain the required amount to participate will also be barred from voting.
- Nominations:
- You may only nominate articles for a category so long as it expressly fits the definition of each category. Nominations that are not eligible for a category will be deleted or moved to the appropriate category by the administration. You may request a clarification about the definition of any category from Distant Tide. You may not nominate an article for more than one category, with the exception of Best Canon Expansion and Best Concept. Articles that are not eligible for nomination will be removed without any notice if they are found to have "content issues" ("Unrealistic", "Non-Canon Friendly", etc.)
- You may nominate an unlimited number of articles written by any number of other authors for any number of categories. However, you are restricted to nominating only one of your articles for only one category for the whole ceremony. This is to promote professional sportsmanship. For categories pertaining to users ("Best Writer of the Year", "Breakthrough User of the Year"), you may not nominate yourself.
- "Recycled" articles will not be accepted into the nomination process. An article that has received minor or no edits for the duration of the year is not eligible for the event. Every article's edit history will be checked when nominated, and will remain valid for nomination only if it has received moderate to major changes/improvements throughout the year.
- You must nominate articles according to the proper format (listed below). Fill out all the fields when submitting a nomination, and post the completed nomination form underneath the category that you're nominating the article in question for.
- Perceived breaches of good conduct and professional sportsmanship will be prosecuted by the administration to maintain the dignity of this voting system.
- The author of an article reserves the right to withdraw his or her own article from a nomination at any time, with or without given reasons. However, if a user has nominated an article that is not their own, they may not withdraw it.
- Eligible categories are decided in advance by the administration. If you have a suggestion for the addition or removal of a category, please discuss it with one of the administrators.
- Winning articles of the previous annual awards may be nominated only if it's been improved upon drastically after receiving a previous award, for a maximum of three awards in separate years. This applies only to the articles, not the authors of the articles, who may only win the Best Writer or Breakthrough User award once. This does not mean that the article can only win three awards; for example, if an article can be nominated for the Best Canon Expansion category, along with its own category, and wins in the top three awards of the year, and does so for three separate years, the article in question can theoretically win nine awards in total (this is, however, highly unlikely).
- You may always contest in a category even if you won an article in that same category before with a different article.
- Voting:
- Eligible users may vote for a maximum of two articles in a given category. You may vote for only one of your own articles for the entire ceremony, no matter how many articles you have in how many categories. You may not vote for yourself under a user category.
- During final votes (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) you have a maximum of three votes to distribute among the winning articles as part of "Articles of the Year. Only one vote can be given per an article from a person, thus no double-voting.
- Please sign your vote with a non-bubble text signature (~~~~) to verify your identity.
- You do not have to vote for an article you nominated.
- The process has two stages: nomination and voting. Users may nominate articles for the Annual Awards from December 1st, 2023 to December 15th, 2023, in order to fill out the categories with prospective AA winners. Then, from the 15th to the 30th, voting will take place across all categories.
- Winners of the Heroic, Legendary and Mythic Articles of the year will be decided between December 30th, 2023, and January 1st, 2024.
- Any categories with ties by 12:00 AM UTC on December 30th, 2023 (24 hours before the end of the vote) will be remitted from public voting and will enter private administrative ballot to decide ties. The results of the ballot will be announced afterwards. All administrators with a registered email will have twenty-four hours to decide ties.
- Winning:
- The article for the most votes in a given category will be formally acknowledged as the winner for the category, and the article and its author will be commended by an official award granted by the administration approximately by January 1st, 2024 and the end of the ceremony. Category-winning articles will be eligible for winning the Heroic, Legendary or Mythic Article of the Year awards once voting is over.
- In the event of a tie, a tiebreaker will be performed, and the winner will be decided by private administrative ballot. The ballot's content will be disclosed at the end of the ceremony.
- If an article is the only nomination in its category and receives fewer than three votes, it will be combined with another similar category after the voting process to avoid "winning by default", and votes will be counted accordingly.
- Only one article may win each award in the placement category. In the event of a tie at this stage, a private ballot will be held by the Administration to determine the winner. This has been done due to several years of two or more articles winning a major award due to ties.
- Questions: Please address Distant Tide if you have any questions whatsoever.

Best SPARTAN of the Year
Daniel-D076 (TheAussie1417)
- Name: Daniel-D076
- Author: TheAussie1417
- Nominator: Distant Tide
Voting (1)
- Is it wrong for me to support my fellow Delta Company writers? No, it is the children who are wrong. Daniel came out of the blue this year and continues the excellent legacy that the original Delta Company writers set forth, and now Aussie went and made a more polished version of my current Delta Company Spartan format with Andra-D054... Have my vote sir, and be done with you! (LOL) - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
SPARTAN-B240 (Delta Pistol)
- Name: SPARTAN-B240
- Author: Delta Pistol
- Nominator: Distant Tide
Voting (4 - Winner)
- This is always one of the most competitive categories, but I found Delsin's article to be a very engaging read and particularly enjoy reading about Spartans who find themselves cut off from the military system they're used to. It's a great article that deserves the award this year. 「 Brodie-001: Finished the fight」
- As Brodie noted, Best Spartan is always a close race and this year we have some great contenders. I put my vote forward for Delshin-B240 as among the Spartans nominated, his story is complete even though the article is still missing some minor unfilled sections. It's also interesting this year to see how Delta Pistol has polished up multiple articles about characters who's paths intersect getting a greater perspective of his universe. Given the mix of presentation and content among the articles, Delta Pistol's work stands out as as much as its difficult to start or work on a character's backstory, it can often be as or more difficult to finish it. Good work Delta! - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- Delsin’s a great character with lot of backstory. I really enjoyed reading his article, and the level of complexity and narrative strength that Pistol has put into the page is something I aspire to mimic. Well done. - TheAussie1417
- DP's efforts to create a different narrative within the standard SPARTAN-III Program pages is noteworthy. As a fellow Beta Company writer, it's always nice to see how people handle TORPEDO and navigate their way through the aftermath of such a destructive mission. DP doesn't fall into the standard Non-Company Team such as NOBLE and RED, but instead uses unique units such as the Headhunters, Asymmetrical Action Group, and the unknown world of ONI black operations. Has my vote. ThePeteFiles (talk) 20:11, 30 December 2023 (UTC)

- Pete's Spartan articles (in general all his stuff) are always so polished and have a finesse to them, it's practically professional looking in some ways. I'm not ashamed to admit that Pete's stuff is something I try emulate and learn from when I do my articles, including my Spartan that was also nominated in this category. He writes with structure and purpose, and does an excellent job at that with Oriana. Even though it's not as fleshed out, I think I'm willing to overlook it, which is saying a lot when the field in this category is so damn strong this year. Overpowered Pistol

- After reading through--and maybe just a little shot from reading all the candidates--I asked "what more could I want of this article"? Well-expanded bio is there, plenty of images fleshing out the story, supplementary sections filled out, a list of appearances in completed prose work, and even the inclusion of one of the Sigmaverse's rare collaborations with the age-old Loosing Hope RP. Alex is a fine example of Brodie's steady work on Sigmaverse, all of which is now nearing completion. I could probably keep GA busy all next year on Sigmaverse alone... Best UNSC Personnel of the Year
Daniel Contreras (Delta Pistol)
- Name: Daniel Contreras
- Author: Delta Pistol
- Nominator: Distant Tide
Voting (6 - Winner)
- Delta Pistol has done an excellent job covering his ORION operative, Daniel Contreras. Detailing his extensive service to the UNSC as a member of NAVSPECWAR, the ORION Project, an ODST and AAG operative - a suitable CSV for a man that served sixty-four years. Pistol's writing style is very engaging to me as a reader, and whilst not on the article itself, the stories involving Contreras that Pistol has written are outstanding for character development. This is exactly the kind of article that deserves an AA, hence why it has my vote. - TheAussie1417
- As I wrote back in my GA vote for the article way back when, it's been a long time since I saw an ORION article this fleshed-out, most of which came from users long ago or are among the members of Brodie's Trident Team. With how much focus Delta Pistol spent on Contreras' page in his early time here, though, I can't help feeling it's a flagship article of his. Those characters don't always survive our growth as writers, but Pistol's consistently improved and expanded the page, and it ought to be recognized for the expansive and detailed page it's become. That Damn Sniper 04:48, 16 December 2023 (UTC)
- As per the above votes. Actene: Heaven and Earth
- We didn't have many contenders for Best UNSC Personnel this year but that didn't lower the quality of Daniel Contreras. I've kept an eye on Delta Pistol's work for this character for a while as he polished and added to the character's backstory over several years. Contreras is a special forces operative of generations intersecting much as Sergeant Johnson did throughout Halo's canon. Being a member of Project Orion and the AAG black ops unit, he has a long storied history, and probably blanketed in black ink in-universe. Previous awards to the character speak well of its presentation and content and I'm happy to once more confirm that, great work Delta Pistol! - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- As per everyone above. Quite a comprehensive article, very deserving of the award and the Plato quote at the start goes hard.

Best Covenant Character of the Year
Tero 'Kanay (Ado 'Ulamee)
- Name: Tero 'Kanay
- Author: Ado 'Ulamee
- Nominator: Distant Tide
Voting (4 - Winner)
- Tero might be one of my favourite characters on the sight. That's not hyperbole, it is a genuine pleasure to open the site, and see that Ado has put more detail and information on Tero 'Kanay onto the sight. I thoroughly enjoy how he has been written, and his journey - from a High Charity escapee to a loyal Banished mercenary. Ultimately, it's Tero's story and Ado's writing that has secured my vote, and I cannot wait to see what happens with him next. - TheAussie1417
- Despite Tuka 'Refum being one of my favorite Sangheili characters created for Halo Fanon ever, I'm putting my vote towards Tero 'Kanay because Ado has really developed a niche of his in addressing underappreciate and underexplored alien characters/archetypes in the Halo universe. Last year he stood out by creating a Sangheili character from the Covenant glory centuries, long prior to the Human-Covenant War or even human spaceflight. It was a different time then, and now he brought a fleshed out Sangheili mercenary with the Banished, a faction extremely underused on Halo Fanon I would hope we will see more of in coming years. Actene did great work this year with a polished Tuka article but much of Tuka's story is yet unexplored so for the time being, I think Ado's work is the clear winner. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- Echoing Tide's sentiments here.

Tuka 'Refum (Actene)
- Name: Tuka 'Refum
- Author: Actene
- Nominator: Distant Tide
Voting (1)
- Covenant characters give writers a chance to flex fantasy muscles in Halo-space, with feuding clans and themes of honor and faith, which always spins out into unique and entertaining tales. Both nominees take full advantage of that this year, but I have to throw my endorsement behind Tuka as far as articles go. While missing supplemental sections like Personality & Traits, there's been more proofreading to iron out the article's prose. And, naturally, Tuka's story ties into Actene's wider works, which lends the stories more impact as we know the events covered here in turn effect other characters known to us. It helps me understand and get more excited for what those characters do next. That Damn Sniper 07:13, 16 December 2023 (UTC)
Best Third-Party Faction Character of the Year
Ragna Aasen (Actene)
- Name: Ragna Aasen
- Author: Actene
- Nominator: TheAussie1417
Voting (3 - Winner)
- Actene has done a great job of expanding upon Ragna Aasen in his article. I was introduced to her through his novel Kill House, and I've found that, as a character, she is an immensely-interesting person - I think this is the first time (although I could be, and often am wrong) there has been a child soldier character on the site that isn't a Spartan. She has a very compelling story and as a character is integrated very well into Kill House's narrative, and I look forward to seeing her expanded upon - both as an article, and in Kill House. - TheAussie1417
- This is really what a few years of Gundam does to a guy, huh? Kidding aside, I notice an interesting change from Actene's normal article prose in Ragna, which near as I can tell comes from being written after most of Heaven & Earth and recapping events from it. Many foundational events are left alluded to rather than explained, while the events concerning Ragna specifically receive the focus. Given so many articles on HF eventually recap events of stories left unwritten, it's interesting to read it from the other way 'round. That Damn Sniper 04:48, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
- When we upgrading Ragna's status to "Andra's best friend" on Facebook? And for what Sniper said, are we strapping rocket boosters onto her Cyclops eventually and lobbing it into space because I'm here for that. Ragna overall is a nice summation of Actene's rewrite work over the last year or so as he transitions out of the Heaven and Earth prose fest into his next projects. I believe it was Sniper and TPF who discussed "less is more" article experimentation maybe one or two years ago and I think Actene nailed it stepping into that space as well, giving enough material for Ragna's article page to stand on its own but also offering up, "hey, there's a trilogy of books about me, go check it out" with this one as well. I look forward to seeing how her story and adventure wraps up based on the little taste of an end in the personality section. Great work! - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

Best Vehicle of the Year
UNSC Eidolon (Ajax 013, Distant Tide, ThePeteFiles)
- Name: UNSC Eidolon
- Author: Ajax 013, Distant Tide, ThePeteFiles
- Nominator: Ajax 013
Voting (6 - Winner)
- Not really a ships guy but I've been monitoring this article's collaboration via discussions in the Revenant chat and it's impressive to see the page grow to such lengths so quickly, which I guess is a given due to Ajax's longtime planning and his knack for long articles. Definitely has my vote.
⟨ Creatures of my dreamsRaise up and dance with me ⟩
- For an article that's a little over a month old Ajax has put a phenomenal amount of work into the Eidolon. I've always been more interested in the stories of individual vessels instead of the technical details and this page certainly doesn't disappoint. 「 Brodie-001: Finished the fight」
- As one of the contributors to the article's vision, Eidolon takes a much different approach to a standard ship article by looping in a deadly political game, canon events influencing the ship's validity, and an in-depth analysis of capabilities and functionality. The actual history of combat and operational experience hasn't been fleshed out yet given the brainstorming process. However, the current information posted and the amount trumps the other candidates and their content. It was a toss-up between the Nelson and Eidolon, but I ultimately support the Eidolon for its direction and niche purpose within the Halo universe. Has my vote. ThePeteFiles (talk) 18:57, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
»Anonymous ONI agent« [COMMS] [SERVICE RECORD]
- Probably the toughest category to decide, since all three nominees have a legit claim to win this category. However, I think Eidolon gets the slightest edge over everyone. Overpowered Pistol
- Having looked at the other entries I am confident in giving my vote to the UNSC Eidolon. While Falkeno's work on the Vanguard-class is very impressive I do feel the Eidolon has eeked it out just by the sheer depth Ajax and co. have gone into. Having complimented the Eidolon I would be remiss to not mention the amount of work Falkeno has put into the Vanguard, namely his collaboration with others and the far better organization and usage of images which I feel the Eidolon could learn from. Hopefully we'll see it enter the hall of winners next year but for this year I am in support of the Eidolon. EvenManatee887
Vanguard-class battleship (Falkeno)
- Name: Vanguard-class battleship
- Author: Falkeno
- Nominator: Actene
Voting (3)
- Providing my second vote to Falkeno's Vanguard-class in recognition to how stacked the Best Vehicle section was for 2023. I already alluded to Falkeno's role as a bastion of ship design for Halo Fanon and the Vanguard-class is no exception. In the story of the Vanguard are stories of Insurrectionist subterfuge, and a cold war sparking with heat between the UNSC and their CMA counterpart with the future of battleship warfare at risk at their heart. Troubled history made way for the Covenant War and distinct vessel names like UNSC Arizona and CMA Jutland which played decisive roles with articles Falkeno also put notable work in this year on and last developing. I look forward to seeing more from the Vanguard battleship come next year as well because from my reading it looks like Falkeno has a lot left to say and design in their regard. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- I usually try not to post multiple votes in the same category, but this year is a tough enough call that I'm splitting my vote between the Vanguard and Nelson. The Vanguard has been gunning for this award for some time now, though my personal preference for ship articles leans towards ones about individual ships rather than entire classes--hence my vote elsewhere. Actene: Heaven and Earth
- Looking over the choices this year, I find myself drawn to Falkeno's Vanguard-class. While I enjoy stories of singular vessels that gain badges of honor, I am always intrigued by ship classes thus my love for books like Warfleet. Falkeno's article hits all the right spots, some history, its armament, and notable events the class participated in. I am curious how Falkeno will sail the future of his vessel and look forward to it.Ado 'Ulamee
UNSC Nelson (TheAussie1417)
- Name: UNSC Nelson
- Author: TheAussie1417
- Nominator: Ahalosniper
Voting (4)
- Best Vehicle is looking like a really heavyweight matchup this year, and though I have plenty of praise for each of its competitors, I feel the Nelson deserves some speaking up for. The article has everything you'd expect of a well-expanded ship page, with History and technical specs and even an increasingly-popular Notable Crew, I think what sets the Nelson apart for me is the expansion through its History of Joseph Harper and Terrence Hood. We know little of the Human-Covenant War exploits which led them to where they were, and the Nelson helps fill in those open spaces with good reads--and has fun with names for a dozen or so minor crew at the same time, from Captain Staten to Elenor Rigby. And, perhaps a more biased bit of reasoning, TheAussie has seen and taken into account feedback on his work, which is absolutely what I hope to see rewarded on the site. Good work. That Damn Sniper 01:53, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
- I feel genuinely broken up about this category this year as there are some serious contenders this year for ships. Ajax scares me with how much he seemed to just drop all these notes out of nowhere after spending weeks with him exchanging feedback for his secret carrier project and now I understand what he was trying to share with me in scope. Falkeno has become a bastion of the community in terms of elaborating/expanding on UNSC starships (canon and fanon) much in the way Sev40 did in years past and really made the concept his own with ship articles like the Vanguard-class and undoubtedly his own mark on the site via unique ship badges, something he uniquely specializes in. Ultimately, my vote goes to the UNSC Nelson by Aussie for a lived in quality that I find really endearing. I recall giving him some tough feedback about a lack of exploration of ship quarters and personal histories of crew and residents of the ship, and he went and blew my feedback out of the water again by going beyond that. You guys really do scare me, thank you for making this such a hard decision to make. And best to you all. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- As per my vote elsewhere. Aussie has been one of the most positive voices in the community for some time now and I enjoy seeing his work come into its own. Actene: Heaven and Earth
- I know it’s generally frowned upon to vote for yourself, and I can understand why. But I feel that in this case it’s deserved. I am immensely proud of the work I have put into the Nelson. It’s my flagship article (pun entirely intended), and showcases what I believe to be the best aspects of my writing. With that said, the other two candidates involved are by no means lesser. Ajax’s Eidolon is looking to be the likely winner, and with the amount of content placed into the article within such a short time period, and from what I’ve heard the weeks of planning, it is entirely deserved. Well done Ajax and co. Falk’s Vanguards are awesome. I’m eternally grateful to Falk for allowing me to take part in his project, and giving me the outlet to make further articles. Nonetheless, I don’t think it’s wrong to say I’m proud of what I’ve written, and even prouder of what Ajax and Falk have written. Congrats to you both, and here’s to an even more competitive Best Vehicle category next year! - TheAussie1417

- Tide's done an excellent job on this article, and it's a great concept too - the cataloguing of AI based at AJJAMS and across the Orion Arm is a very niche idea, and one that Tide has executed confidently and competently. - Considering how well storied the Fall of Reach as an event is in Halo fanfiction and in canon, it shouldn't be a surprise to see an attempt to summarize the entire military campaign. It's been attempted before but I don't think anyone has achieved this level of completeness on Halo Fanon ever. This is the equivalent of a book report on Halo Fanon I would wager, its thorough, it covers all the base, expands in places to warrant the article's existence. I have no complaints, maybe at this point I should be suggesting or outright asking Aussie on behalf of Halo Fanon users, "Can you expand sections further to include Fanon collaborations in your Fall of Reach (don't ask me, I don't have anything to offer personally)?" - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

- Name: Avery J. Johnson Academy of Military Science
- Author: Distant Tide
- Nominator: Distant Tide
Voting (5 - Winner)
- As much as I would like my article to receive this award, it doesn't deserve it compared to Tide's article. Tide has put in a great amount of effort in expanding on the lore of AJJAMS and adds his own spin on the article through his great writing style. I hope he continues with this article and adds more Fanon aspects to it, but as it is right now, it's in a great place, hence why it deserves the AA. - TheAussie1417
- Where's my writer's credit for giving you a-jams, Tide? Actene: Heaven and Earth
- While I like the Caldwell Defence Grid, I think under the Location category, AJAMS ends up fitting the definition better to me. I keep meaning to do Camp Currahee in a similar style, and Notable Residents or Personnel sections seem to be widespread this year. The one thing I think this still needs is a delve into Facilities, or Layout, or some type of section for the actual features of the site, because it can then become a resource in the same way a tabletop RPG has articles on locations and features which characters can interact with. At that point, the AJAMS page then becomes a resource for anyone who wants to put their characters there, and have a communal playspace our characters can share in. Looking forward to some of that next year. That Damn Sniper 01:01, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

- I've wanted. Wanted-wanted-wanted, to see something done with the anti-asteroid railgun installations of Ace Combat in Halo for a long, long time. I'm confused enough why I didn't do something with it myself, I'm more confounded and appreciative to Aussie for beating me to it. It's such a simple yet cool concept that fits nicely within Halo lore as a minor leap from Ghosts of Onyx's Slipspace Buoy Launchers and the Halo 4 map Longbow with its ancient arctic railgun. A ground-based defense grid maybe less effective than orbital SMAC station arrays but for some more cash-strapped factions like New South Wales, it makes some sense and adds some variety. After all, if MACs can be fired in atmosphere, fired out into space, in space, and down at a planet... Why can't what goes down, not go up? Great work here Aussie, I hope to see you expand it further but I'm blanking on suggestions at this time. Must be the novelty of the idea blinding me huh? Or is that a hole through my chest by a groundbased SMAC? - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- Tide pretty much hit it on the head. Love the idea of the UNSC having more ground-based defenses rather than just oversized batteries powering orbital stations. Plus loved Ace Combat so bonus nostalgia points.Ado 'Ulamee

- Kropotkin is great. Slowfuture has done an excellent job on elaborating upon his isolated, Insurrectionist polity, and creating a very-intriguing narrative that Kropotkin seems to follow - the story of a nation that has had a rocky start to its independence, prone to rebellions and civil strife - yet still acts as a beacon of defiance against the UNSC. A great article well worth a read if you haven't already done so, and as one of Slow's collaborators in Rex Regi Rebellis, I cannot wait to see how he further develops it. - TheAussie1417
- I think I've said all that needs to be said regarding slow's flagship article in other award forums, so I stand by previous votes and nominations for this article. Actene: Heaven and Earth
- I really fell in love with slowfuture's depiction of Kropotkin in his work on Halo: The Red Future and others where he brought one of my Spartans to explore a different society and culture from what she was familiar with living with. What was revealed between this comprehensive article and the works featuring the location and faction of Kropotkin is that slowfuture has a real vision of this socialist planetary commune. It's not a small state, but its not big either. It's not utopic and dystopic, shades of people living life they've fought and earned through good and bad, imperfect experiences were outlined here and I really appreciate getting to see this in both description and application via prose. This is in no way a disregard for the other works by his competitors, Sagemaster and Aussie did great work on Athena and the New South Wales Commonwealth as proven last year and throughout this year; in terms of scale though I think Kropotkin edges out. Great work Slow! - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- This one took me some time to consider. There's a bit of a gap in Kropotkin's History section as it stands now, which was frustrating since the disparate sections are very engaging and I want to know how the two existing parts connect up. Its competition this year have those unbroken History sections to walk the reader through the logic of how it came to be, but Kropotkin's such a strong article I have to come back to it for my pick. slowfuture's applied a lot of his studies into Kropotkin's development, and delves heavily into an under-examined civilian perspective which Halo--being a military sci-fi universe--leaves vastly underdeveloped most of the time. As noted, slow's also been proactive about including Kropotkin in stories, making cross-references with other faction articles about breakaway human planets, and having established characters pass through the location and be effected or effect what's happening at the time. It engages readers and fellow writers alike, for which I think it's fair to recognize it with an AA. That Damn Sniper 23:53, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

- Tide's AI page cropped up at just the right time when Halo's interest shifted over to Infinite's multiplayer, and the personal AI available to players. It also fit well in the pattern established by the likes of Mythic Requisitions and Dramatis Personae. I assume Tide's open to adding ideas people throw his way, so we'll all have to throw some ideas his way regarding our own AI characters. That Fanon Series table is going to grow quick. - While the list section of Commonwealth's defense force is a little too common with works like these, I'm glad Aussie put the time into to flesh out this wonderful UNSC proxy in a period where non-UNSC human factions had a bit of a renaissance during the summer of 2023. Aussie mentioned to me he felt the Commonwealth Order of Battle article may not be up to his high quality standard just yet but I want to recongize the work he's already put forward here. I think its a kindred spirit of an article with my Far Harvest Legion, existing in the same space and timeframe and tackling the same gap in lore left by 343's introduction and quiet resolution of the Created conflict. - Resolution 9065 is not apparent as a large article, but the collapsed preview tabs hide a wealth of imagination Auguststorm has spent many years imagining the scale of a Interplanetary War I think unmatched anywhere in the Halo fanfiction space. List articles can be exhaustive for many readers but the bite size stories of events surrounding humanity's early military starships have enough little details that allow reader imaginations to take these ships and run with it. Resolution 9065 is a wonderful "little" piece on Halo Fanon that is quite unique and I would like to see a great more done with the work but I feel like at that point I'd be asking for too much in a similar manner to Samdoo's exhaustive work imagining a dream project for the Halo Wars brand. August has put a great deal of work into his ship naming and designation project that I feel deserves unique praise. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- August has done a great job with Resolution 9065, and it's been a great pleasure to read through it this year and watch as more and more is added to it. August's commitment to expanding early UNSA and UNSC military history and designs has been intriguing to watch unfold, and I'm grateful he's taken the time to construct something as developed as Resolution 9065. I won't be ashamed to admit it, but going forward if I continue developing my ORBAT pages and ship lists, I'll most likely emulate August's own style and format. - TheAussie1417
- August's efforts to expand on a largely unwritten and disregarded timeline is impressive. His ability to create and put together such a piece of work is noteworthy and stands out from the usual articles we find nominated. August works throughout all of Halo history and his knowledge pertaining these unknown areas is something we need to acknowledge. I wholeheartedly endorse this page and it has my full support. - This article really is curious to me as an expansion, as one normally sees writers inserting either their own characters into events, or their own events into character bios. There's been some fleshing out of detail here, like Admiral Freemont's orbital struggle, but the vast majority of the page is dedicated to connecting established canon points. It's unusual, but I suppose comes from a single-minded dedication on TheAussie's part to make a complete picture of the Fall of Reach as canon has set it up. - It's been absolutely criminal how under-developed the NCA has been in canon, and all because Halo's too afraid of an M rating to give us human enemies. They should be a central part of exploring the UNSC's darker side, but at least it leaves us free to explore it ourselves. The article has a way to go on History for now, but its snapshots of central characters in the faction starts to give us an idea of the people who make up the emerging rival human powers out there. - The expansion of the NCA has been something I've wanted for ages - and something that canon Halo seemingly hasn't elected to give us - whether it be due to Infinite's continuing storyline, or a reluctance to touch the Insurrection, it matters not. What does matter is the great amount of effort that's been put into the article thus far by three great writers - Nicky, Slow, and the other one (I'm kidding, Tide, I know you're there - somewhere). - I was very torn in this category, as I have read both of the contestants and thoroughly enjoyed both of them. However, I'm going to have to give my vote to Kill House. Actene's prose is a genuine delight to read, and Kill House's over-arching story and the portrayal of its characters are fantastic. I cannot wait to see where the novel goes next. - TheAussie1417
- Delta Pistol's Hunters of Orion project is deeply underappreciated in terms of the story he's trying to tell but being only on Chapter Four at the moment, its well past the point of a short story but not so to a full novel as Actene seems to be closing on an ending with seeming one more arc. Kill House is a continuation of the successes of his Heaven and Earth trilogy but seems to slow down to live with the characters aboard the CCS-class battlecruiser Soul Ascension. Thanks to Actene's polished style and prose, I will give him my vote and in no part does it have to do with him continuing to use my characters in his adventures. I look forward to what comes next for the Heaven and Earth adventures next year, thanks Actene for continuing to pump out such fun experiences. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

- It is my, admittedly biased, opinion that of the entries this has been the one to so tangibly make me feel something. Admittedly this is likely due to the subject matter being my own Spartan and his backstory but the very idea that the youngest Spartans, the Gammas, are tortured by guilt from what they have and have not done is incredibly interesting to me. This is why this entry is so exceptional me because we see one of them confront his guilt and come to terms with it with a blessing from his mother long since passed. - A while back now, I did a Weekly entry for some Marines landing on Installation 07, and in the back of my mind I always meant for them to end up in the Banished's fighting pits. Lo and behold, someone else was of the same mind, and went for exactly the feeling of hopelessness surviving one round brings when it only leads into the next! Stories which tackle current events of the Halo universe make us more inclined to take an interest in those current canon events, and that in turn hooks in newcomers who took a look because they enjoyed what they just played (or read, or... whatever Outpost Discovery had). That Damn Sniper 06:54, 17 December 2023 (UTC)
- Ya-ya, I turned this into a three way Mexican Standoff between three great short stories. I nominated quite a few articles and stories I enjoyed, possibly oversaturated this category. Diminish Hope I think offers a unique place in the Short Fiction category in that it plugs right into Halo Infinite and brings its audience to the House of Reckoning in the right place and time as Season 5 was kicking off for the multiplayer. It's interesting to see Alpha produce this story and then as Firefight rolls out, the Waypoint Chronicle tackles the exact same topic. Who did it better? Canon or Fanon? Hard to say, but I think Alpha deserves recognition for making an especially interesting setting for Atriox's gladitorial arena. Some of the worldbuilding elements I plan to borrow next year. Inspiring others is an important factor for Halo Fanon's community, therefore the story gets my vote! - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- No surprise here, but I'll go ahead and spend my self-vote on this entry. For some weeklies, I really have to rack my brain in order to fashion a story that follows the guidelines and prompt for that week. But with all the excitement from Halo Infinite's best season yet, combined with my own love of Zeta Halo, and I had a story that basically wrote itself. I don't know if I would say it's my best work, but out of all of my weekly entries, this one definitely has made the biggest splash. AlphaBenson (talk) 23:42, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

With the evident imbalance of power between the obese Yonhet and his superior, it was hard not to imagine Rak at the bottom of a giant series of steps, dwarfed by the authority of his superiors. - There's a line in this short that's kept coming back to me at odd times through the year. "It wasn’t a case of miracles not happening. It was just a case of someone calling it something else." Sums up an approach to the difference between those who believe in a higher power and those who do not, and each time it makes me want to write something to respond to it. Not to whether a higher power exists--debates like that end up about as substantial as a "my dad could beat up your dad" argument--but in how people of different beliefs relate to one another, and the effects of different strategies. I haven't the faintest what shape that might take, but this story and the themes in it provoke me to want to write, and that's perhaps one of the best things a story can do. If it's capable of provoking others to write in turn, our site would be wise to highlight it as Short Story of the year. That Damn Sniper 07:44, 17 December 2023 (UTC)

- Best Writer this year? Wow. Too hard to choose! All three have done tremendous work this year in their own bubbles and areas of expansion - Falk's ships, August's early UNSC (and even a throwback to the UNSA days) expansions, and Delta's characters. Delta wins out the others, in my opinion, simply due to his diversity in what he's developed this year. Several Spartan articles, multiple short stories, a novel, other UNSC characters - it's practically unending. Despite the great amount of respect and compliments I have for the other nominees, ultimately it was a tough choice, but Delta has received my vote. - TheAussie1417

- Checking the Contributions of each candidate this year, each has made substantial additions to their work on the site. But when I think of who fits for Best Writer, I also look to how they engage others on the site, not just in isolation, and Falkeno's been making efforts to collaborate with others well before this year. He's contributed his Joseph-122 expansion to my own Stolen Gauntlet, devoted no small amount of time into thinking about S-II numbers (as one who's tried it before, good luck), and invited multiple users to partipate in fleshing out his Vanguard-class. The latter, I think it safe to say, has probably been his main project this year, and letting anyone else touch a project you put that much effort into takes some trust to do, knowing collaboration potentially pushes your creation to turn out not exactly as you first envisioned it. But Falkeno's taken that step, and the result has been other users contributing vessels in his well-expanded ship class that bring their own stories into the web of articles Falk can take pride in being a central part of. For that, he's got my vote for Writer of 2023. That Damn Sniper 08:59, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
