Welcome one and all to the Fifteenth Annual Halo Fanon Wikia Awards. We are honoured by your attendance to this annual community awards ceremony and celebration, the fifteenth and certainly not the last of its kind. This project is coordinated by the Halo Fanon Wiki Administration, and would not be possible without the hard work of our community this year.
Ladies and gentlespartans, and all the blue people living in their heads, we find ourselves once again at the end of another year as Halo fans. 2022 has been a trying year for us. The online services for the original Halo games on Xbox 360 went the way of the dinosaurs, Infinite’s Second Season offerings showed up too little or too late, and the Halo TV show—well, it gave us some nice memes.
I’ve wanted to run the Annual Awards for many years now, and at last, if I can get you all to put down your Official Halo Cookbooks for just a brief moment, the time has come to direct your attention to the work everyone’s put into the site this year. As games and novels turn all attention to Zeta Halo in-universe, it’s left us on Halo Fanon with the rest of the galaxy as an open field to run around in. The Created’s ascension to galactic dominance is faltering, the Banished are rising into the power vacuum left behind, and the UEG is waking up to find maybe not all of humanity want to pick back up with this “being part of your empire” thing again. Other creations I’ve seen this year have focused on giving us a platform to write our own adventures on Zeta Halo, with Infinite’s audio log lore providing a backdrop to roam the ringworld over.
The Annual Awards are a time to give kudos and recognition to works you’ve enjoyed from your fellow Halo fans in the past twelve months. I hope plenty of you step in to deliver a vote and some kind words, or even just a signature to show your support, and let those who’ve poured their hearts and souls into this setting know their work is appreciated.
We look forward to your participation in this community-wide celebration, and hope that you will all participate! Now, read the regulations, nominate your favourite articles, and vote!
Regulations
- Nominations begin at around 12:00 AM midnight UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) on December 1st, 2022 and voting begins at the same time on December 15th. It will conclude promptly around 12:00 AM midnight UTC on December 31st, 2020! Any exceptions to this are listed below. Final winners will be announced and receive their awards on January 1st, 2022!
- Voting Qualifications: Users eligible to nominate and vote must have been users for at least four weeks and have sixty or more mainspace edits in order to vote. Because of the style of this ceremony, sockpuppets and sock masters are not invited, and will be promptly banned from the Wiki and barred from future voting. Newer users who spam edits just to gain the required amount to participate will also be barred from voting.
- Nominations:
- You may only nominate articles for a category so long as it expressly fits the definition of each category. Nominations that are not eligible for a category will be deleted or moved to the appropriate category by the administration. You may request a clarification about the definition of any category from Ahalosniper. You may not nominate an article for more than one category, with the exception of Best Canon Expansion and Best Concept. Articles that are not eligible for nomination will be removed without any notice if they are found to have "content issues" ("Unrealistic", "Non-Canon Friendly", etc.)
- You may nominate an unlimited number of articles written by any number of other authors for any number of categories. However, you are restricted to nominating only one of your articles for only one category for the whole ceremony. This is to promote professional sportsmanship. For categories pertaining to users ("Best Writer of the Year", "Breakthrough User of the Year"), you may not nominate yourself.
- "Recycled" articles will not be accepted into the nomination process. An article that has received minor or no edits for the duration of the year is not eligible for the event. Every article's edit history will be checked when nominated, and will remain valid for nomination only if it has received moderate to major changes/improvements throughout the year.
- You must nominate articles according to the proper format (listed below). Fill out all the fields when submitting a nomination, and post the completed nomination form underneath the category that you're nominating the article in question for.
- Perceived breaches of good conduct and professional sportsmanship will be prosecuted by the administration to maintain the dignity of this voting system.
- The author of an article reserves the right to withdraw his or her own article from a nomination at any time, with or without given reasons. However, if a user has nominated an article that is not their own, they may not withdraw it.
- Eligible categories are decided in advance by the administration. If you have a suggestion for the addition or removal of a category, please discuss it with one of the administrators.
- Winning articles of the previous annual awards may be nominated only if it's been improved upon drastically after receiving a previous award, for a maximum of three awards in separate years. This applies only to the articles, not the authors of the articles, who may only win the Best Writer or Breakthrough User award once. This does not mean that the article can only win three awards; for example, if an article can be nominated for the Best Canon Expansion category, along with its own category, and wins in the top three awards of the year, and does so for three separate years, the article in question can theoretically win nine awards in total (this is, however, highly unlikely).
- You may always contest in a category even if you won an article in that same category before with a different article.
- Voting:
- Eligible users may vote for a maximum of two articles in a given category. You may vote for only one of your own articles for the entire ceremony, no matter how many articles you have in how many categories. You may not vote for yourself under a user category.
- Please sign your vote with a non-bubble text signature (~~~~) to verify your identity.
- You do not have to vote for an article you nominated.
- The process has two stages: nomination and voting. Users may nominate articles for the Annual Awards from December 1st, 2022 to December 15th, 2022, in order to fill out the categories with prospective AA winners. Then, from the 15th to the 30th, voting will take place across all categories.
- Any categories with ties by 12:00 AM UTC on December 30th, 2023 (24 hours before the end of the vote) will be remitted from public voting and will enter private administrative ballot to decide ties. The results of the ballot will be announced afterwards. All administrators with a registered email will have twenty-four hours to decide ties.
- Winners of the Heroic, Legendary and Mythic Articles of the year will be decided between 00:00 UTC December 30th, 2022, and 00:00 UTC January 1st, 2022. Users eligible for voting may vote once each for up to three separate articles to support for Articles of the Year. At the end of placement voting, the articles with the three highest vote counts will receive (in ascending order) the awards for Heroic, Legendary, and Mythic Articles. Ties will be decided by private administrative ballot per above.
- Winning:
- The article for the most votes in a given category will be formally acknowledged as the winner for the category, and the article and its author will be commended by an official award granted by the administration approximately by January 1st, 2022 and the end of the ceremony. Category-winning articles will be eligible for winning the Heroic, Legendary or Mythic Article of the Year awards once voting is over.
- In the event of a tie, a tiebreaker will be performed, and the winner will be decided by private administrative ballot. The ballot's content will be disclosed at the end of the ceremony.
- If an article is the only nomination in its category and receives fewer than three votes, it will be combined with another similar category after the voting process to avoid "winning by default", and votes will be counted accordingly.
- Only one article may win each award in the placement category. In the event of a tie at this stage, a private ballot will be held by the Administration to determine the winner. This has been done due to several years of two or more articles winning a major award due to ties.
- Questions: Please address Ahalosniper if you have any questions whatsoever.

Best SPARTAN of the Year
Loic-D066 (Spartan-D042)
- Name: Loic-D066
- Author: Spartan-D042
- Nominator: Ahalosniper
Voting (7)
- The Spartan people loved to hate; it's almost strange to see Loic with an article considering that he existed solely on a shared Google doc for the majority of the time I was working with him. I'm glad to see D042 expanding on Loic's character and backstory further as he was a fun character to write for. Actene: Heaven and Earth
- Loic is a very fascinating character that I'm most definitely deep-diving into any and all stories and articles he's present. I'm eager to see more about him during the Crisis. Navisiul97
- Best Spartan is always a competitive category, and both contenders have had consistent effort applied throughout the year to bring them where they are now. But I think Loic secures my vote for the fresh angle of a Spartan who willingly joins the Created, believing in the heroism that comes with induction into the group that's always been portrayed as Halo’s hero class. It leads him to believe in Cortana's message of presumed salvation for all, and not without good reason. The article backs up that concept with experiences that disillusion Loic from UNSC indoctrination and make him a ripe recruit for Cortana's cause. I think that makes him the first anti-villain up for the category. That Damn Sniper 23:24, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- For how nice-looking he is, you might think he's a younger Ryder Kedar - but no, he's actually someone who doesn't drift the line between sane and sociopath. This is the third Delta to make it to the Annual Awards, and I'd say is a much more polished article than what Andra's has looked like the 2 times she has been up for the running. I am a tad miffed that you haven't updated his article up to his full storyline considering Actene has already finished the Heaven and Earth trilogy, though I can't complain too much when I've yet to finish covering H&E in my own right - still got half of Book 3 to finish transcribing. Anyways, I need more out of Loic and Team Gravity. Getting to see what a Spartan career stuck in limbo of controversy and yet not yet see the relation Loic has with the Created, and particularly Cortana, is a criminally underexplored concept here. Come on D042, finish his tale for good! - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- Almost wasn't gonna vote because he's a stinky Created defector.
⟨ Creatures of my dreamsRaise up and dance with me ⟩
- While I've yet to read the story that most heavily features him, the concept around Loic's character is a very interesting one and the page is very well put-together. 「 Brodie-001: Finished the fight」

Oriana-A058 (TPF) (ThePeteFiles)

- I went ahead and threw a vote Oriana's way as well despite personally feeling that Loic's character package is fundamentally better. One of the things that has been mentioned before but I felt deserves repeating is praise for Pete's sense for uniformity and article design. He's really nailed a article design that unifies information and minimalism that makes for a very organized, practical read. It can sometimes feel a bit dry and in this case Oriana lacks a lot of her past written renditions leaving less interesting frills than before. Still, I agree with Sniper's nomination that Pete has another few character contenders for Halo Fanon if not this year, next year. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- ~ LHF [Talk] [Father] [Mother] [Warrior] [Stranger]
- I ended up going with Oriana, as I feel she has quite a bit of potional to grow as a character. She is an S-III who, while losing team mates that would be like a family to her, she still has her adopted family somewhere out there still. The images help make the article more engaging, and I think the only criticism I have is the hope Pete expands more on her battle record. I look forward to where he takes her in the coming year. -Ado 'Ulamee
Best UNSC Personnel of the Year
Alexander Redford (Brodie-001)
- Name: Alexander Redford
- Author: Brodie-001
- Nominator: Ahalosniper
Voting (4)
- Thinking about it, Alexander Redford might just be my favorite among Brodie's many Sigmaverse characters. He's a persistent presence, sitting innocuously just to the left of focus as others drive the plot forward, cleaning some instrument while plotting the demise of everyone else in the scene. Or maybe that's just my lasting impression of him from Halo: Shrike, as a plant already lying like a UNSC caltrop in the Innie cell Amanda Wade joined up with. But whether appearing in Sigmaverse novels or a brief, tense scene like The Visit, he's there with the same pleasant smile whether pouring a cup of coffee or slicing open the artery of an Innie who's made the error of trusting him for years. Watching for what he's going to do next, when he's going to pull the rug out from under someone, always has me engaged with the ongoing story, and this article does a nice job of detailing those many moments all in one place. Now that he's heading up the BRUTUS organization and has one of Sigmaverse's unlikeliest protagonists at the top of his list, it's sure to be fun seeing how the way he's lived his whole life pays off for him in Brodie's capstone to the site's largest single-user universe. That Damn Sniper 03:03, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
- As per Sniper's vote. Redford is such a quintessential Brodie character, a complex and morally grey character committed to doing evil in the service of good. In my opinion Redford is among the most memorable characters within the Sigmaverse, a storied figure who casts a long shadow over site lore. Actene: Heaven and Earth
- I still owe Brodie his deep read of Sigmaverse but I've begun to get deeper into it. I also owe him a short story to finish in Alex's headspace, especially with playing a role of setting up an interesting career for one of my black ops Spartans from Delta Company. Brodie's close creative control of his articles, while sometimes leaving some more sparse than others, does well to tell wholistic tales of his characters even in summary form. Alexander Redford of Project BRUTUS is of no exception, with adventures of the usual Covenant War brand, but more interesting affairs including hunting a specter of a rogue Spartan across human space in the middle of the very same end of days, and seeing of course intersections of other famed site characters. He's well-rounded and storied character, a example that I think we're all hoping to reach for the times we spend on this site as we integrate ourselves with the community and our common adventures. Falkeno's Kieran Blair is a solid entry for Best UNSC Personnel but is outpaced simply by time and site history, give him another year and time spent focusing on that long career with the many excellent ships under Falk's belt and I'm certain he'll make it to the category winner soon. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- Brodie's effort to incorporate a different angle of an ONI officer and their path into the organization highlights his ability to create different story threads within Sigmaverse. His story-telling of Redford is done more through the writings he's done over the years, giving people other areas to explore the character outside of the biography. It's a well written article and has my vote. ThePeteFiles (talk) 14:08, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
Kieran Blair (Falkeno)

Best Covenant Character of the Year
- Name: Lezo 'Gohom
- Author: Navisiul97
- Nominator: Ahalosniper
Voting (3)
- Of the articles nominated this year, I find Lezo has the most to offer as far as connection to the wider net of fanon characters and interaction with the same events others are present in. Plus, there's a particular fondness I have for an article using all custom screenshots from the Halo games. It makes me want to fire up the MCC and get creative in a custom game, trying to find the under-remembered corners of the multiplayer maps. It makes me want to get creative in turn, which is exactly the kind of thing I'd hope others to see with an article spotlighted by an AA. That Damn Sniper 06:19, 18 December 2022 (UTC)
- Having worked on worldbuilding with Navi on and off, I know Lezo to be a particular pivotal narrative and local character in his ongoing Puerto Rican adventures. While Bulwark is certainly a more interesting character, it has yet to develop as much and I would like to see how Navi might manage to get images for the article since its a challenging subject matter. Lezo could use more polish and writing overall in the details department but overall is a great addition to our community. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- Although as I write this it seems pretty clear that Bulwark will take the category, I do feel obligated to pitch my vote in here for the other of Navi's creations. I will fully admit to having had some exposure to and participation in the brainstorming of Bulwark so I was under the impression that they(?) had taken the lion's share of his effort, but I was completely blindsided by just how much mass and detail Lezo had to him, even relative to the state his article was in last AA - all of this being done in addition to the other projects and characters of Navi's that were more on my radar this year is outright impressive. I very much stand in agreement with the two comments above - the big swings for my vote were that Lezo felt a great deal more fleshed out than the admittedly more-novel Bulwark, and the in-game screenshots used as article images that clearly had a great deal of work to set up! — LegendOfElTopo (soon-to-be 🍲)
- Name: Bulwark
- Author: Navisiul97

Voting (5)
- I found picking a character to vote for in this section to be surprisingly challenging. Bulwark takes my vote for being a rare example of a Lekgolo character here on the site. Actene: Heaven and Earth
- A Hunter character? With UNSC weaponry? You had me at the Hunter. Bulwark is an awesome article about a Hunter bond brother pair and their story, and I can't help but find myself wanting more. Despite the fierce competition within the rest of the category, Bulwark has my vote. TheAussie1417
- While I'd prefer more images and whatnot to break up the flow of constant text and exposition, what lies underneath is a surprisingly well-planned article for a pair of Hunters under ONI. Definitely a great concept!
⟨ Creatures of my dreamsRaise up and dance with me ⟩
- Interesting idea, as a rare example of a hunter/lekgolo character on HF. A bit under-developed (at least on the page), but still interesting enough to get my vote. Looking forward to what you do with him next! Timothy Emeigh

Zil 'Kanayee (Ado 'Ulamee)
- Name: Zil 'Kanayee
- Author: Ado 'Ulamee
- Nominator: Ado 'Ulamee
Voting (2)
- I'll be using my second vote in this category, shouting out Zil as well. A well-written article that's developed the most of the three this year, the only thing I would offer is to try to get more images up! Timothy Emeigh
- Zil continues to be a solid and unique character in Halo Fanon's ever growing community of characters - but a lonely one stuck in ancient history unfortunately. We need to give him room to grow, connect and explore with other characters in his criminally unexplored setting so... Ado keep it up and keep reminding us to join you in the ancient past. Ask if you need help with photos, we all can help. If you ask me for any particular help: give me a general idea/vibe of scene and I'll try to cook something up. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
Best Third-Party Faction Character of the Year
Siscand (LoyalHaloFan)
- Name: Siscand
- Author: LoyalHaloFan
- Nominator: Ahalosniper
Voting (7)
- Ancient humans are a surprisingly untapped well of potential here on the site. LHF treads some uncharted ground here with both an interesting concept and some clever tweaks to usual page formatting to ensure an engaging visual design. Actene: Heaven and Earth
- The Forerunner era's always felt far removed to me, but this is one of the articles that just takes advantage of that to tell kind of a space fantasy story about noble lords, fealty, and laser sword battles on spaceships. Maybe it's a guilty pleasure since sci fi fans and fantasy fans usually end up in the center of a venn diagram of the two, and it's hard to make them cross over, but portraying that conflict from the human side really has let LHF run rampant with a story here. A lot of Forerunner reincarnation's been going around of late, but Siscand's imposing of an ancient human presence means raising the specter of old conflicts, where composed ghosts of the dead fight again with today's denizens of the galaxy in the crossfire. Stories about how pointless and destructive those old grudges are would be ripe opportunities. Somehow, bringing in those disconnected events has me interested this time. Well done for that. That Damn Sniper 05:28, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- As someone who's always wanted to make Ancient Human characters and delve into the more sci-fant side of Halo, this was an easy pick for me. Perhaps it's the fear of exploring unknown territory with the prehistoric era or the confusion of how much can it veer from traditional "Halo": but I do hope more writers in the following years come up with such interesting and out-of-box ideas, in what I think is a widely-underused sector of the Halo mythos.
⟨ Creatures of my dreamsRaise up and dance with me ⟩
- In terms of where my vote needs to go, LHF's Siscand edges out on Mr. Costel in quality and detail so far, but on a level of ideas both show a great deal of potential. We've yet to see much of Siscand narratively but LHF always pulls through in this area, writing up stories from beginning to end and bringing fascinating characters to life. A last of the former humans who stood against the Forerunners. Another ancient evil reawoken as reclamations accelerate. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- This is such a unique and well-written article, and I hope it spells the creation of more articles related to the underexplored and underappreciated Ancient Humanity.DarthNicky (talk)
- I'm sure there's not much more I can really pitch here than what's already been said in earlier votes - this was a fantastically interesting read relative to the more stodgy SF tone of the Halo we're mostly used to, and the outright ballsiness of striking out into the unexplored territory of ancient humanity was really quite impressive (my personal soft-spot for science-fantasy notwithstanding!). — LegendOfElTopo (soon-to-be 🍲)

Felix Costel (DarthNicky)
- Name: Felix Costel

Voting (1)
- Felix offers a great deal of potential much like other, older rebel supersoldier mad scientists have from time to time in Halo Fanon's communal past. An appropriate-looking, recurring villain-of-the-week and appropriate for the distant and undertold tales of colonies on the frontier where Darth's writings excel. I look forward to seeing more of this character, even potential to collab narratively with him hopefully in the future. Keep up the great work, more detail and images would be appreciated! - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

Best Vehicle of the Year
Vanguard-class battleship (Falkeno)
- Name: Vanguard-class battleship
- Author: Falkeno
- Nominator: Ahalosniper
Voting (1)
- As a fan of Sins of the Prophets, I couldn't help but chuckle when I saw the Vanguard's image and silhouette. However, that's not the reason why the Vanguard has my vote. The insane level of detail Falkeno has put into the article is beyond impressive, and that's why I'm voting for the UNSC's top dog in space combat. TheAussie1417
Soul Ascension (Actene)
- Name: Soul Ascension
- Author: Actene
- Nominator: Ahalosniper
Voting (4)
- The idea and the "myths" of an unsinkable ship is very exciting to me, especially imaging others discussing it either in fear or awe for it. Navisiul97
- Reading through the nominations this year, I was surprised to find strong narratives in each, including that of a ship class article rather than an individual ship. Of the lot, though, I think what pulls my vote in favor of the Soul Ascension is the interaction of character on the course of the ship's history. It's a setting as much as a vehicle, backdrop to plots for power, build-ups, betrayals, and falls. And all that has to get set aside for everyone to survive when called for actual combat. If I ever look seriously at a long-form ship article, this might be the way to try out a BSG-inspired story of crew at different levels interacting on the page itself. And of course, never hurts that it includes links to other users' work to connect it with other community creations. Top-shelf work as always. That Damn Sniper 09:59, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
- A ship with an awful lot of character, like its crew <Death to Heroes>[The Damned] [The Lost][The Forgotten]|Deus Ex Ajax
- COnsidering this ship has as much history as the Chancer V, its surprising it took as long for it to come into the spotlight for an annual award. Glad to see it reach a content milestone and come into its own. Covering the massive Heaven and Earth trilogy I'm sure helped in this respect. :P - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

- An impressive article developed entirely within the last few months of this year, yet still presenting a quality coverage of the ship's lifespan. Could do with some more images, but with the content that's there, it's got enough for my vote! Timothy Emeigh
- There's a lot of narrative meat on these bones for a supercarrier. Some familiar names, some familiar places. Agreed with Tim it needs some more images and possibly more variety of them but otherwise the content speaks for itself. A great choice for Best Vehicle! - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

- Most of the technical details might have gone over my head (the amount of raw detail is staggeringly impressive), but based homegrown bullpup is still based. DarthNicky
- This was a hard category to choose a vote for, but I have to go with UCR thanks to a visual design that seems right at home in the Halo universe. Actene: Heaven and Earth
- Reading through this article, I cannot help but be in awe of the level of detail put into this article. Linked with Tim's expanded universe and the awesome blueprint of the rifle, I have to vote for it. TheAussie1417
- The extensive detail and dedication to the weapon description, details on its features and appearance gets my vote. Navisiul97
- Something I've mentioned above for a different vote, one or two more images can really help break the flow of text, but it's less egregoius this time considering there's already two images in the page. That being said, the article is ridiculously descriptive in a good way, and the new infobox image is a better fit.
⟨ Creatures of my dreamsRaise up and dance with me ⟩
- An article that's a good representation of Tim's approach to work, with a methodical, well researched piece <Death to Heroes>[The Damned] [The Lost][The Forgotten]|Deus Ex Ajax
- Jeez, this is well researched. Honestly, this is overkill. That said, a great article and I can celebrate that wholeheartedly. LBK made a great AK-in-Halo article but it's got some great images but lacks a degree of concentration and structure that this article has. SSA352 UCR (a mouthful) has my vote. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- One must express at least a small degree of disappointment that this wasn't the Fusil d'Assaut de la Manufacture d'Armes de Sirona 😛 - but joking aside, the sheer detail on this firearm's design (or even just the optics, or the different loadings, for heaven's sake!) is a practically awe-inspiring achievement on its own. When taken as part of the growing arc of Sirona's ever-more-expanded-upon military industry, it very comfortably has my vote. — LegendOfElTopo (soon-to-be 🍲)

- Halo Fanon has made its living on two approaches, historically: exploiting the loopholes in canon, or trying to justify the silliest things in it. And this finally reconciles the appearance of an AK in the Halo TV show. I can only recommend adopting a picture of that for the article. Actually, I could also recommend, as the acronym formatting's a little awkward, bolding the whole word and underlining the first letter in each case. That Damn Sniper 10:56, 22 December 2022 (UTC)

- An intriguing, contained article that crafts an interesting narrative around a very believable tragedy. Actene: Heaven and Earth
- Much of what I like about this article I've already stated in a GA vote, but it bears repeating here. The article being about a fire, an accident instead of combat, and the many failures of systems meant to keep safe all the ordnance we list our ships and characters carrying into battle in abundance is fantastic. The analysis makes me think of post-event courtrooms and studies in the vein of films like Sully or Chernobyl, the less exciting moments that are critical to learning from mistakes and preventing accidents from repeating. It's great. That Damn Sniper 20:45, 22 December 2022 (UTC)

- I'm hereby considering "funky" a technical term for slipspace navigators. Nice to see an Outer Colony with justifications for willingly rejoining the UNSC in this era. Post Human-Covenant War and post-Created Crisis, many of us are expecting to see colony worlds start up their own alliances and governments with more interest in their own local well-being, and the result of human factions potentially at war with each other. But the UEG remains the biggest fish in its galactic corner of the pond, and many colonies with their whole economies dedicated to single industries (as we've seen with agri-worlds) would have ample reason to be part of their larger economy and sphere of influence. Also, nice to see Sagemaster joining us here from fanon wikis elsewhere. Hope he sticks around to contribute works like this going forward. That Damn Sniper 23:55, 22 December 2022 (UTC)

- Picking from among several worthy contenders in one of the more crowded fields turned out to be a challenge; nonetheless I must drop a vote for HealthCheck as a fun translation (and thorough expansion) of Cyberpunk's Trauma Team concept into the Halo universe. Actene: Heaven and Earth
- Very unique concept especially from a new user, and I love the extra bit of detail by listing the company's finances. Well done!
⟨ Creatures of my dreamsRaise up and dance with me ⟩
- An excellent article that has gone well beyond its roots in adapting the Trauma Team concept into the Haloverse. It's a good read and covers some of the shady corporate elements of Halo that aren't often given the spotlight. 「 Brodie-001: Finished the fight」
- I started out a little reticent to vote for a concept that started as a direct port of something from another franchise, but that fear lessened in the reading. Eaglestrike's done well to tie the organization as a company into the course of Halo's history; the Insurrection rises, UNSC doesn't care enough in the colonies to provide adequate medical aid, the colonies turn to private solutions. And as an article, it's technically impressive, incorporating profit records, tables, graphs, and to my surprise consistent imagery with the medical Pelican as described the company operates. I can't deny the amount of effort the author's put into the article itself. That Damn Sniper 05:25, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

- A different spin on organizations, DT has taken the leap of incorporating his master's studies, his infatuation with GITS, and smashed it together to create a third-party shadow organization. Pacem is a direct opposite concept of what other people have been doing for organizations and the content already is surpassing the others who tend to fall into the same structures. Has my vote. - The fragmented chaos left over in the wake of the Created Crisis may usher in a renaissance of the once looked down upon third party factions. If this is indeed the case, DarthNicky's Theban Commonwealth leads the charge. Nicky has put a great deal of effort into crafting a grounded, believable society that will likely continue to provide the backdrop for event across our community. Actene: Heaven and Earth
- I've always said that the post-war era could have been defined by more peer or near-peer opponents for the UNSC within Humanity, and while staying canon-friendly limits the capability of achieving this on Halo Fanon, the Theban Commonwealth is as close as once could get to this while also remaining a great article on its own grounds. Timothy Emeigh
- Thebes makes good on the promise opened up by the sometimes baffling decisions made for canon lately, and sits at the center of several well-developed satellite articles--which include works beyond those of one author, thanks to the advent of his RRR project. Cultural background is included to give a unique feel for them, and Thebes manages to not become an example of what the UEG does to dissent thanks to always being #2 or 3 on their list of biggest problems. I just wish I could read Theban Slavonic without misreading it as a musician called Savlonic. That Damn Sniper 05:25, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
- Another thoroughly developed people and culture from DarthNicky. It's rather interesting to see the notion of "nation-states" being explored in Halo given the extent and mostly ubiquitous UNSC and UEG in the universe - it's a concept that opens a lot of questions and raises some concerns but he and Aussie both work very hard to make these states within THE state standout on their own. I look forward to finding out where these settings/groups go in the near future. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- Nicky has put extraordinary effort into this work and it's fun to see our political views shape the landscapes of the worlds we create within the Halo canon. Thebes is a
revisionist-class traitordeeply interesting world, and I'm excited to see where it goes and to collaborate with Nicky. - Mechanical harness? Legal, non-war, violence? I'm sold. I'm excited to see what Aug-boxing could bring in terms of non-military stories and scenarios. I might beg Kojima sama to allow me to add a Aug-boxing show into UEBC. Navisiul97
- 2022 seemed to be the year that a lot of sci-fi concepts from other franchises made their way onto the site. Aug-boxing caught my eye earlier this year as an interesting foray into the rarely-explored world of civilian entertainment. A gritty take on the kinds of engineering innovations take place outside UNSC-funded projects, aug-boxing strikes me as the kind of colorful flavor you might find in a gritty dive bar or colonial spaceport. Actene: Heaven and Earth
- Not very often do I see articles about fictional sports in the Halo universe, so this was a pleasant surprise. I like the history of the sport being traced to miners with cybernetic limbs having recreational fights before it expanded in popularity, which feels very natural. Would love to see more content about Aug-boxing: given how referees have authority on deactivating the "augments" of a fighter, you could explain cases of referees misusing this power to rig results via match-fixing or other unlawful practices in the sport. There's always drama in sports, so don't hesitate to incorporate real-world occurrences.
⟨ Creatures of my dreamsRaise up and dance with me ⟩
- This is one of the years the Best Concept category came up with some fun and unusual ideas. Of the two, I think I have to opt for aug-boxing for the more fleshed-out history (though I look forward to the UEBC expanding, especially with respect to the impossibility of instant communication across the galaxy early on; perhaps look to something like Battletech's HPG network for inspiration). Aug-boxing gives us an expanded example of what someone might flick to on a Chatter video host, or event someone has tickets to in a throw-away line. Like Blam! music, it makes for a richer tapestry to draw on and weave our characters into by having something larger to suggest our characters enjoy in their free time, when not starring in dramas themselves. That Damn Sniper 06:05, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
- Great article that exemplifies all skill, no frills writing. The idea is unique to Halo Fanon and Halo at large, adapts a cool idea and puts it into another in true Fanon style. Helps that it taps into the "told, not shown" aspect of Halo's lore that mentions civilian augmentations but rarely if at all, have we seen them. I nominated Navi's UEBC much for the same reason but he's still got a ways to go in terms of building out a plethora of shows to watch in the Halo universe. Maybe he and kojima might collab and get us a show or two about Aug-boxing so other writers can feature it. **hint hint** - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

- One of the ships I like best as a concept, written well, and with a good groundwork to build further off of. Looking forward to seeing more when it comes to the specifications, but I believe that the variants and summary included so far, as well as the large table of various example ships, is a solid enough start for my vote! Timothy Emeigh
- It's odd to have this under the Expansion category when, at first read, the design specs that normally make up a good chunk of a ship article are yet to be filled in while variants (which might be considered whole other ships) have plenty. But the History section does a good job of expanding what we know from canon about the class, and the Known table and gallery below carry plenty of content. The galleries do feel a little heavy comparatively, but there are images throughout the article already; I might consider adding the badges to the table of Known ships, but that would likely make the work on the custom Ship badges harder to appreciate. So all in all, I'd say it's plain to see a lot of thought was put into the layout and article as a whole. That Damn Sniper 07:28, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
- Sev and Falk have long shown a great capacity for writing ship articles, though I agree with Sniper that there is also a great deal of work still missing that make the article feel unbalanced in its early content and incomplete. It could use a bit more of everything in this regard, and the images take up a lot of the content focus of the article. That said, it's a great work and it has my vote. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- I don't know how much I can add that hasn't already been said, Sev's Marathon article has been a standard I often use to compare my own against and his recent work with Falkeno over the last year has drastically enhanced the article even further, well earned vote. User:EvenManatee887

Best Novel of the Year
Halo: SIGMA (Brodie-001)
- Name: Halo: SIGMA
- Author: Brodie-001
- Nominator: Actene
Voting (5)
- The so-called "final Sigmaverse story" has built up steam for a while yet and thankfully it has a ways to go yet. Brodie has spent years cultivating the characters on display here, crafting stories of fellowship and betrayal amidst the Halo universe's starry expanse. SIGMA takes its reader from icy moons to embattled military facilities to drifting spacecraft as the characters of the Sigmaverse come to terms with the Created upheaval. If SIGMA is the true culmination of his efforts, it's a worthy finale: each scene and encounter shows off his affection for the Halo setting as he meticulously works through engaging conversations and encounters I can only envy. This story deserves Brodie's continued efforts and I hope we'll see plenty more SIGMA content coming from him in the future. Actene: Heaven and Earth
- While all three are solid options, SIGMA has seen the most development over the past year, and serves as the culmination of a larger, overarching story Brodie's been working on for years. Timothy Emeigh
- When choosing between these candidates for Novel of the Year, it's always worth considering a look back through their edit history to see how consistently additions have been made throughout said year. Brodie's effort on SIGMA and all the wider Sigmaverse is probably a model anyone interested in writing long-form stories can learn from. Stretching back even before 2022, additions have been made regularly, whether in tens of thousands of bytes or under 1k. Many of the larger, I must imagine, come from word docs held offline until a something near the length of a chapter is ready to deploy, with maybe a change or two after the same day for formatting. Whatever strategy he's using, however, it's allowed him to come to the point of finishing not just this one novel-length entry, but the final novel in a series spanning the whole of the 26th century Halo has expanded on for us. Might be worth getting a quick post from him on just how best to keep focused and make progress, because it's resulted in many pages that've gone up for awards, and I'll happily support this as much as any among them. That Damn Sniper 21:34, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
- I second Sniper's request for a post about "how" to focus in on a comprehensive narrative plan and any notes or suggestions Brodie can pass on to you his juniors. It's hard to believe you're closing in on the close, weird phrasing - all intended. I'm not really sure what I can say about the story overall. Polished prose and reliable dialogue. A narrative that fits well into the Created conflict. Characters of site renown and well into their own deserving praise for unique backgrounds and motivations. It's a solid piece all around and looking back on some other works like Shrike compared to SIGMA, you can see overtime how Brodie has grown to this great, final effort. Honestly, 2022 belongs to SIGMA. Great work Brodie! - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

- I nominated Kill House and Hunters of Orion, knowing that despite being far behind SIGMA in terms of output, they are still great works-in-progress and that being nominated for the Annual Awards is as much a mark of confidence in our community's works as being voted for or even winning. Actene has put great work into Kill House that carries on from where he left off after a brief break from the Heaven and Earth trilogy. In this, Actene and Brodie have in common a dedication to consistency. Actene has said prior that Kill House was supposed to be a much shorter work than it ended up being but still what is here is a massive and great exploration of the culture of the Soul Ascension which is competing for Best Vehicle. Together, this makes for a good year in seeing Actene's writing and worlds up close. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

- There's been a lot of great short stories to come out this year, I've read and competed against a lot of them in the Weeklies. It was hard to decide on something but I decided to give some of the larger short stories some love since they're often harder to absorb in a shorter period of time and I've had some play in giving slowfuture feedback in his work on Red Future. What's notable for me about this fic outside of seeing one of my characters and his characters interact is that slowfuture has a particular way of tackling and pursuing detail and difficult topics in this three-chapter-act about Spartans thinking back on their roles and legacies as Spartans and exploring ideological and existential questions - Kropotkin is a very unique locale in Halo Fanon, a small time, utopic communist colony in the middle of nowhere. With slowfuture's strong religious and communist readings, he presents a very different and detailed look about a number of things, but I think the most important being *personhood*. What motivates people, why do they do the things they do, what gets them out of bed in the morning? What does personal autonomy look like? Considering all that, Red Future feels very unique and deserving of the Best Short Fiction Award. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- Always hesitant to vote for my own work, but I put a tremendous amount of effort into this story and worked closely with Tide to ensure Andra was portrayed accurately. Halo is a game about war but we rarely see peace; the efforts to build peace. That's what I've tried to communicate, not an ideal, but a difficult arduous task that takes every ounce of collective buy in. I am very proud of this piece and I hope others enjoy it too. slowfuture (Talk) (Contribs)
- Red Future is just great fiction, period. Slow does a great job of weaving his message into a captivating story centred on an underappreciated aspect of the setting and accomplishes this while pulling the focus away from violence and explosions. Hanh and Mary's relationship and its meaning resonated with me on a personal level, and I'm not sure I can say that about any other fan fiction stories. This story deserves an award. DarthNicky (talk)
- I confess I wasn't a huge fan of RF when I read it the first time, but after seeing Distant and Nicky's praise for the story and revisiting it with that feedback in mind I've decided to drop my second vote here. Given that Halo is first and foremost a video game series about space marines shooting aliens, bringing an authentically civilian focused narrative to the setting can be very tricky. This is clearly a story Slow had a lot of fun writing; the "fun" aspect of writing sometimes seems to get lost amidst other priorities. Actene: Heaven and Earth

Anyways, Rasq does an excellent job of putting together a narrative and showcasing a one-shot without making the reader drink from a firehose or grasping for more context. The little drops of lore allow us to understand where this is taking place and the actions going on. It's a perfect balance of technical and story-telling. It also won the Weekly. Has my vote. - Rasq put together a best-in-class of environmental storytelling and story-through-dialogue in Cold As Ice. - Writing dialog between characters is a balancing act, and sometimes it's a tricky one to get right. We write dialog to convey information to the reader, and that dialog has to flow well and be written in a voice that is authentic to each character. Oh, and the exchange has to be interesting to read. Otherwise, the writer might as well drop all that information in a Weberesque infodump. You never know which leg of that tripod is going to be hardest, but when it comes to soldiers, an authentic character voice is hard to pull off. There's a certain level of jargon and professionalism that is expected of characters who serve in a military, and that goes doubly so for Spartans. Historically, ThePeteFiles has had the opposite problem. He's great with jargon and professionalism, because he reads orbats for fun. In terms of writing characters, well, he's come a long, long way from Ten Hours In New Mombassa. The spoken and unspoken dialog in this story was exceptionally brisk and well-executed, so it earns my vote Quirel

- As with each year previous, I went through every Weekly entry from this year to find those I liked best. And, well, this year was not an easy one for me, as may be obvious. There were a lot of finalists to pare down in my mind, but Darkness Waits made the final cut. Maybe it's because I've been rediscovering some existentially terrifying sci fi elsewhere this year, but the style of this short really got me. It takes an everyday (well, everyday as a massively-expensive slipspace drive can be) piece of 26th-century technology and reminds us it's foolish to think we can entirely control breaches in the laws of physics as we understand them. One small slip in that tenuous grasp on slipspace, and the repeatedly-mentioned might of the vessel melts away helplessly into the universe's dark underlayer. I'm hoping we can continue to add that subtle cosmic horror into Halo going forward next year. That Damn Sniper 21:35, 29 December 2022 (UTC)

Zone 67 was one of those under-utilized little mysteries I'd hoped people would play with if more attention was given to Onyx, and boy does this ever do that. It makes me want to know what happened to the other "instances", whether any of the other candidates knew, and if this helps pump up our numbers of candidates after some were lost or Headhunters taken. Is there another Hari serving with the Headhunters under a different name? Is there one that replaced a trainee killed by an accident, and no one seems to comment on it? Currahee is a small place, maybe 600 people including trainees, and not a lot of news reaches it regularly. People do talk in such a small town, as it were. Plus, tying it into events we plotted for Gamma's training is just a bonus for me, alongside the links to other short stories by the authors. Yep, this one's solidly in my wheelhouse for favorites. - Alas, I think I'm a bit too late for it, but I also decided to spend my single self-vote on this piece after seeing Sniper's feedback above. I'm not entirely sure what to say for it, other than that I don't think I have the words for the gratitude at all those fun things being picked out and noticed. What was initially simply a big lumpsum of exposition on my plans for Hari ended up smushed into a format-screwy short that I will shamelessly say I wrote with the specific angle of tickling Judge Silver's fancy, and while it fell by the wayside compared to the more plot-focused stories I've done since (like the two below) on a re-read I'm genuinely quite proud of the threads this "flagship" piece links together. (There's also a non-zero chance I'll be thieving some of those listed ideas for the future...) — LegendOfElTopo (soon-to-be 🍲)
- I'll be the first to say that I am not the best placed to be providing feedback on short stories, but even I can recognize how well written and foundational this piece is to Topo's overall lore. I especially love how so much of the story about Hari-G055 is told just through the events of the copies and her being involved in the Jailbreak. I think this is absolutely one of the most solid of these submissions this year and I am willing to throw my vote behind it. User:EvenManatee887

Memorials to fallen soldiers are a topic that's been done a lot on this wiki. I think every writer here has made at least one stab at the subject. It's hard to say what makes for a good story on the subject, but Brodie's entry left me humming the chorus to "Blood on the Risers" at the end. Quirel

- I hope the community can forgive me when I say that I've judged the majority of the entries in this category as Weekly submissions and as a result they all blur together in my mind quite a bit. Delayed Blowback stands out as one I remember quite clearly and as such it takes my vote. Actene: Heaven and Earth

Best Writer of the Year
Falkeno
Voting (2)
- Falkeno has been incredibly active within the community in the past year, expanding on his personal articles while also spending a great deal of time discussing Halo concepts on the site Discord. He always seems to be working on projects to expand on users' understanding of the nooks and crannies of the Halo universe; more importantly, he is always eager to share his work in order to assist other users. This level of commitment certainly deserves recognition. Actene: Heaven and Earth
- Falk's ambitious projects lead him down a rabbit hole many do not dare to enter. His focus to attention and detail has elevated him to someone who has spent time learning about Halo. His other activities on the site include being a Weekly Judge where he is considered tough given his demanding expectations, which can help elevate a writer's ability. He's not one to hold back and certainly voices his own opinion. Falk might butt heads with other people, but I never seen him do it out of ill intent. He is helping new users with their articles and supporting their work. Overall, Falk has had this coming a long while and deserves it. Has my vote.ThePeteFiles (talk) 23:24, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

- As always, the Best Writer award is an extremely tough one to decide on. However, I'm going to stick with my nomination and vote for Tim, who has for years been a superb writer and a valued member of our community here at Halo Fanon. His articles are always a pleasure to read, and I think Tim definitely deserves the award this year for his hard work and consistent efforts to improve his pages. 「 Brodie-001: Finished the fight」
- Brodie has taken the words out of my mouth, it was a tough decision but ultimately I've decided to vote for Tim given his long-standing presence on the site as a veteran writer and community member.
⟨ Creatures of my dreamsRaise up and dance with me ⟩
- Tim has been quietly putting in a lot of hard work and honestly deserves this spotlight for the quality of that work <Death to Heroes>[The Damned] [The Lost][The Forgotten]|Deus Ex Ajax
- I'm torn. All of the candidates are superb writers that I spend hours every day reading their articles, and find myself encapsulated with in their work. However the deciding factor for me has been quietly working and thriving, as he continues to develop his excellent writing style into an awesome expanded universe of his own articles. I'm honestly in awe of his work, and surprised he hasn't received this award earlier. User:TheAussie1417
- Both Tim and Falkeno are great writers and friends so its hard to pick, but I chose to go with Tim this year despite Falk's higher edit count. I think between the two, I've seen a bit more variance in terms of articles and works written from Tim - having more short stories and a few more article types this year that I felt went in Tim's favor. I look forward to seeing more work from them both in years to come. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- Tim has spent a long time experimenting with making high-quality articles with such variety in subject matter that I don't think anyone else can quite match. From weapon systems to linguistics to ethics, he consistently manages to find new ways to spin the Halo universe in unique and fascinating ways. DarthNicky (talk)
- Granted, I haven't been able to pay as close attention to the site this past year, but from what I can subjectively recall, I seem to see Tim's contributions rather often when I got the chance to look at Recent Changes. He's participated frequently in the Weekly as both writer and judge, and involved the characters of others in his contributions. That signals to me he's invested in the community here and the projects it offers, and recognition by said community seems like the proper way to repay it. Breakthrough User of the Year
Arminius Fiddywinks
- Name: Arminius Fiddywinks
- Nominator: Underlord1271
Voting (3)
- Arminius, which I will shorten to AF, popped onto the site over the Weekly where they started their career on HF. For many who judged the weekly, it was often to see criticism on what AF was doing early on, and often pointing out other options on how to improve their style. As time went on, they started to win some Weekly events against veteran writers and became more interested in the Weekly Prompt, often hounding after people in the Discord for feedback and the next prompt. I haven't had much interaction with AF, but noticing his hard work and wins is something I been tracking. He has grown as writer over the past year and his winnings prove it to the rest of the site. Has my vote. ThePeteFiles (talk) 23:29, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- While I do usually pay more attention to users for their article work, Arminius has been a constant presence in this year's Weekly competitions, and his ability to consistently put out high-quality stories in such a short amount of time is definitely impressive. Hoping to see more improvements in the coming years! 「 Brodie-001: Finished the fight」
- I admit I haven't talked to them much, but Arminius is a great writer and I always know I have competition for the Weeklies! Hope to see some more great stories in 2023. Underlord1271 (talk) 20:04, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

- This is another difficult call on my part between two very active contributors. Ultimately my vote comes down to the broader impact stand-alone articles such as the ones EagleStrike works on have on community focus and discourse. Actene: Heaven and Earth
- Another year, another tough vote for the User categories. In the end, I've decided to pick Eaglestrike/Frost for the award as I find his unique and wide variety of articles more fitting, not to mention his presence in the community and helping tag NCF articles and the like.
⟨ Creatures of my dreamsRaise up and dance with me ⟩
- A tough call, but in the end, Frost has come out of nowhere in 2022 with a vision for UNSC Refined, and has sat down and carried it through. That's not to say he's over yet, and I'm looking forward to what he's going to do with it going forward, but what he's done so far has been nothing short of excellent. Timothy Emeigh
- As per my nomination (that I totally didn't forget to vote on) Eagle has made a a great early impact with a variety of articles, some from a very unique angle. <Death to Heroes>[The Damned] [The Lost][The Forgotten]|Deus Ex Ajax
- After some deliberation, I've decided to put my vote in for Eaglestrike/Frost for his excellent article work this year that show a great attention to detail and a lot of worldbuilding teeming beneath the surface. Healthcheck in particular was an article that came out of left field for me, surprising me in its scale and depth, and easily a favorite of mine this year as a whole. Arminius's writing has been great this year all around but I haven't much interacted with him outside of Weeklies so I felt that in terms of site activity, I want to vote for Eagle. Both of you did great work this year, I expect more to come in the next, keep it up guys! - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
- I've appreciated Eagle's takes, exploring some of the less combat-oriented aspects of the universe, and he has a great deal of potential. DarthNicky (talk)
- Seems like a year for hard calls to vote for, the last one being no exception. Arminius came in with a whopping 19 Weekly entries this year, behind only Tide, which is a lot of prose writing. Eaglestrike, by contrast, has focused near-solely on article writing, with two being spotlighted since he arrived on the site in May of this year. It's hard to compare the two approaches and call one over the other, but in reviewing contributions by both nominees, I noticed at least one instance where Eaglestrike tried to reach out to another new user and point them toward our policies, and maintained a friendly tone in doing so. Reaching out to others and trying to help them? Yep, this is a good sign. I for one hope we'll have Eaglestrike around for a while. That Damn Sniper 22:28, 29 December 2022 (UTC)
