Fourteenth Annual Halo Fanon Wikia Awards 2021
December 1st, 2021 — December 31st, 2021

Welcome one and all to the Fourteenth Annual Halo Fanon Wikia Awards for 2021. We are honoured by your attendance to this annual community awards ceremony and celebration, the fourteenth and certainly not the last of its kind. This project is coordinated by the Halo Fanon Wiki Administration, and would not be possible without the hard work of our community this year.

We look forward to your participation in this community-wide celebration, and hope that you will all participate! Now, read the regulations, nominate your favourite articles, and vote!

Regulations[]

  1. Nominations begin at around 12:00 AM midnight UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) on December 1st, 2021 and voting begins at the same time on December 15th. It will conclude promptly around 12:00 AM midnight UTC on December 31st, 2020! Any exceptions to this are listed below. Final winners will be announced and receive their awards on January 1st, 2021!
  2. Voting Qualifications: Users eligible to nominate and vote must have been users for at least four weeks and have sixty or more mainspace edits in order to vote. Because of the style of this ceremony, sockpuppets and sock masters are not invited, and will be promptly banned from the Wiki and barred from future voting. Newer users who spam edits just to gain the required amount to participate will also be barred from voting.
  3. Nominations:
    1. You may only nominate articles for a category so long as it expressly fits the definition of each category. Nominations that are not eligible for a category will be deleted or moved to the appropriate category by the administration. You may request a clarification about the definition of any category from Distant Tide. You may not nominate an article for more than one category, with the exception of Best Canon Expansion and Best Concept. Articles that are not eligible for nomination will be removed without any notice if they are found to have "content issues" ("Unrealistic", "Non-Canon Friendly", etc.)
    2. You may nominate an unlimited number of articles written by any number of other authors for any number of categories. However, you are restricted to nominating only one of your articles for only one category for the whole ceremony. This is to promote professional sportsmanship. For categories pertaining to users ("Best Writer of the Year", "Breakthrough User of the Year"), you may not nominate yourself.
    3. "Recycled" articles will not be accepted into the nomination process. An article that has received minor or no edits for the duration of the year is not eligible for the event. Every article's edit history will be checked when nominated, and will remain valid for nomination only if it has received moderate to major changes/improvements throughout the year.
    4. You must nominate articles according to the proper format (listed below). Fill out all the fields when submitting a nomination, and post the completed nomination form underneath the category that you're nominating the article in question for.
    5. Perceived breaches of good conduct and professional sportsmanship will be prosecuted by the administration to maintain the dignity of this voting system.
    6. The author of an article reserves the right to withdraw his or her own article from a nomination at any time, with or without given reasons. However, if a user has nominated an article that is not their own, they may not withdraw it.
    7. Eligible categories are decided in advance by the administration. If you have a suggestion for the addition or removal of a category, please discuss it with one of the administrators.
    8. Winning articles of the previous annual awards may be nominated only if it's been improved upon drastically after receiving a previous award, for a maximum of three awards in separate years. This applies only to the articles, not the authors of the articles, who may only win the Best Writer or Breakthrough User award once. This does not mean that the article can only win three awards; for example, if an article can be nominated for the Best Canon Expansion category, along with its own category, and wins in the top three awards of the year, and does so for three separate years, the article in question can theoretically win nine awards in total (this is, however, highly unlikely).
  4. You may always contest in a category even if you won an article in that same category before with a different article.
  5. Voting:
    1. Eligible users may vote for a maximum of two articles in a given category. You may vote for only one of your own articles for the entire ceremony, no matter how many articles you have in how many categories. You may not vote for yourself under a user category.
    2. Please sign your vote with a non-bubble text signature (~~~~) to verify your identity.
    3. You do not have to vote for an article you nominated.
    4. The process has two stages: nomination and voting. Users may nominate articles for the Annual Awards from December 1st, 2021 to December 15th, 2021, in order to fill out the categories with prospective AA winners. Then, from the 15th to the 30th, voting will take place across all categories.
    5. Winners of the Heroic, Legendary and Mythic Articles of the year will be decided between December 30th, 2021, and January 1st, 2022.
    6. Any categories with ties by 12:00 AM UTC on December 30th, 2021 (24 hours before the end of the vote) will be remitted from public voting and will enter private administrative ballot to decide ties. The results of the ballot will be announced afterwards. All administrators with a registered email will have twenty-four hours to decide ties.
  6. Winning:
    1. The article for the most votes in a given category will be formally acknowledged as the winner for the category, and the article and its author will be commended by an official award granted by the administration approximately by January 1st, 2022 and the end of the ceremony. Category-winning articles will be eligible for winning the Heroic, Legendary or Mythic Article of the Year awards once voting is over.
    2. In the event of a tie, a tiebreaker will be performed, and the winner will be decided by private administrative ballot. The ballot's content will be disclosed at the end of the ceremony.
    3. If an article is the only nomination in its category and receives fewer than three votes, it will be combined with another similar category after the voting process to avoid "winning by default", and votes will be counted accordingly.
    4. Only one article may win each award in the placement category. In the event of a tie at this stage, a private ballot will be held by the Administration to determine the winner. This has been done due to several years of two or more articles winning a major award due to ties.
  7. Questions: Please address Distant Tide if you have any questions whatsoever.

Best SPARTAN of the Year[]

Amber-G330 (Ahalosniper)[]

Voting (7)[]
  1. Amber has been in the running for Best Spartan a while now. Sniper does an excellent job of crafting a different story about a SPARTAN than we normally see. The Childhood Section is cash, he found a way to make training an enjoyable read with the help of the Onyx Chronicles and his story-telling ability, operational sub-headings tell a meaningful story without bogging you down in military babble, and we see a character on a very unique journey. On top of all of that, I will die on this hill and say it's the best technically written article on the site. Grammar, punctuation, and everything surrounding those areas are spot on thanks to Sniper's focus on his writing. The character has been involved in a lot of collaborations and made herself known among many old and new users. If new users are looking for a template on how to write a SPARTAN article, I will always point them to this piece. Has my vote. ThePeteFiles (talk) 17:42, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
  2. A year ago I'd have dismissed Amber's article out of hand for the sheer volume of content left to be covered. Sniper has done all that and more with his recent edits. Amber has come a long way and has plenty of ground left to cover. I look forward to seeing more of her in the years ahead. Actene: Heaven and Earth
  3. Sniper is true to his name as ever, and by that I mean he does not miss. Amber is a banger character who's evolution is equally kickass. Personally I can't wait to see where she will go from here, in a post-Infinite and post-H&E world. User:Spartan-D042
  4. I find myself edging out in favor of Amber rather than Bodark who I consider to be a equally interesting and developed character in what is likely the two favorites for this year's Best Spartan. Amber has the benefit of being part to a great site tradition in the development of Spartan-III Gamma Company which Ahalosniper has spearheaded and set the stage for. A fully thought out and developed Gamma Company section and motivations are thus the result and to break out of the standard mold of anime Gamma Company which so many Spartans Halo Fanon regulars are familiar with, Sniper has offered us a big personality and a bigger identity. Amber embraces the wildness and richness that is the Halo universe and gone farther. Outsiders who might come across Amber may balk or gawk at the notion that a Gamma Company graduate is the daughter of an infamous proto-SPARTAN-IV, turned rogue and killed her friends, or came into power over a Covenant penal legion. But Sniper has had years to justify it, to make sense of these developments, and to make them enjoyable to follow. What we find here is an underdog character article that is very much content-complete passed up over a number years by more polished or at-length characterizations but I'd say 2021 should be her year. I want this to also be a recognition of Bodark-B076 because Amber isn't the only one who's fought for recognition these last few years. Even has put a lot of work into his killer-lady of a Spartan article who has bloodied every mission she's been on with viseral images to augment the imagination and great detail put into her biography. There is a sense of incompleteness with Bodark that I think could be filled with one more year. I think 2022 will be her year. Congrats to you both for such great and talented work. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
  5. <Death to Heroes>[The Damned] [The Lost][The Forgotten]|Deus Ex Ajax
  6. While I initially had my reservations about the article due to its relations to Ilsa Zane, my continued reading and observation of Sniper's development of Amber has seen me use her as something of a template for Spartan-IIIs. Wonderful writing, formatting, and progression of the ideas that I once saw as iffy, Sniper has done an exceptional job of working Amber into one of the best Spartans I have seen to date. EvenManatee887
  7. Everyone's covered my agreement points. This is quite some real fine work. Gotta give this one to Sniper. Template:LBK sig

Bodark-B076 (EvenManatee887)[]

Voting (8)[]
  1. Bodark doesn't try to be overly special by either being orphaned by something other than the Covenant, being an underperforming Spartan, cutting ties with the UNSC, being a part of a fanon/barely-existent-in-canon company, or any combination of the four. She just has a fairly conventional start and takes it from there as a well-established Spartan character. I was never a fan of any of the aforementioned characteristics, and while they made the first few fanon Spartans who exhibited those traits unique at the time, in my humble opinion, those concepts have since been overdone. ~Lazer9lin9 22:17, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
  2. Even's really tightened up some of the things about Bodark's article from last year. Sections where previously events were overwrought, filled with specific detail more appropriate in prose, have been cut back and given a better overview of the significant outcomes of each event. On top of that, it's a solid article with a distinct personality for a character. That Damn Sniper 22:47, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
  3. Even's work on Bodark only continued to improve, Bodark has always been an interesting Spartan-III, especially with how Even's knowledge on armor specifics and weaponry to perfectly match bodark with her personality and roles. I'm excited for what has yet to come.Navisiul97
  4. UnggoyZealot
  5. LastnameSilver
  6. Taking the brilliant article that I voted for last year, I see Bodark once more pushing as my choice. While Amber is certainly well-developed, the changes and progression Even has made with Bodark on top of an already top-choice article in my mind really have my favor on this one. Timothy Emeigh

Charlotte-G036 (Kojima sama)[]

Voting (3)[]
  1. While it lacks a couple of the usual rounding-out sections typical of character articles around here, Kojima's hammered out an extensive character story for his new Gamma. Spartan OCs are the bread and butter of new user articles, but rarely does a user's first Spartan character go in-depth on the opinions and feelings of their character (at least, within the first year or so they're on-site). Aye, it's another Spartan to abandon the UNSC for personal reasons, but the turn is at least foreshadowed and set up well enough to credibly pull off. Plus, it reinforces the idea Gamma got all the bad apples. How can I not love that? That Damn Sniper 22:47, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
  2. A surprising gem from a relative newcomer; Charlotte is exactly the kind of article that jump-starts broader work on the site and I'm glad to see Kojima adding more to the community. Actene: Heaven and Earth
  3. There's a lot of good to say, but I'm being lazy rnUser:Spartan-D042 - Of monsters and men 16:15, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

Loic-D066 (Spartan-D042)[]

Voting (1)[]
  1. I'm going to throw an extra vote towards Loic for being the late-stage antagonist of Heaven and Earth and I think indisputably the most developed Delta Company Spartan outside Andra-D054, both of which have Actene to thank for bringing to life. With the fall of the Created without spoiling the narrative of Halo Infinite, we say goodbye to one era of Halo and enter into another one. But even though its been quite a while since Halo 5 gave us the Created, the in-universe make it painfully and apparently aware that their time in the sun was cut short and they ended too soon. We needed more time with the Created even if both we here at Halo Fanon and 343i, evident through inaction, were unwilling to address. Loic is a nice change of pace and drop in the retroactive bucket in giving the Created a more human face: a Spartan that abandoned their mission to continue their mission. Loic didn't think he was abandoning humanity, he was joining a force that was less corrupt with human selfishness. Where the Master Chief rejected Cortana's offer, Loic and many other took Cortana's hand in raising AIs to the Mantle of Responsibility. Loic is already dead, a casualty to a greater mission for Simon-G294 but he repersents an oppurtunity that I'd like to see more in the near-future of the Created remnants I think many of us are thinking of how to contend with and write for. Even if the Created were a flawed creation, we are Halo Fanon and these creations are what we write to explore while giving ourselves a voice in the Halo universe. I think D042 has done a great job in giving a vehicle for this to be explored and greatly on the part of Actene to bring this character to life in prose. He has my second vote in this category. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

Best UNSC Personnel of the Year[]

Aniela Kasowska (TPF) (ThePeteFiles)[]

Voting (7)[]
  1. Pete has a lot of offer Halo Fanon as a Site Patroller and a veteran writer on the site. I've seen him go through some ups and downs as he tried to decide what he wanted to focus on. More than a couple times our characters have gone head-to-head in award competitions and its always been a close race. I don't really have an oppurtunity to give him another challenge this go around but I'm a little sad to see some of his previous contenders bite the dust as he has reexamined and redone his narrative around the life and friends of Samuel-B256. Aniela is a strong and polished, in-progress crystalization of his tale I would say as I've spent more than a few occasions getting to hear his insights and design choices regarding his Fanon. He has a unmatched eye for military bueracractic, logistical, and strategic detail and that reflects in his writing even as he laments not being able to use 90% of what he has discovered through research in writing. He's dedicated to his art and Aniela reflects this with her detail-oriented biography that narrates missions and history that read like a juicer, lived-in textbook. Despite being less stuff here than some other years regarding UNSC personnel, what Pete offers is polished to a fine-T and you can see his research come into play with mentions of schooling, military occupational standards, certificates and degrees. At this time my biggest request would be to see more from this character in general content on the page and more stories. I would also like to see a more creative use of pictures, I'm not the biggest fan of how small and unrelated they are to the topic at hand sometimes. I do understand image sourcing can be a hit or miss and takes as much effort as the writing itself so it does not deter from the article's value. Aniela is an excellent nominee for Best UNSC Personnel 2021, I look forward to seeing more written of her in the future. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
  2. An excellent example of Pete's recent work on the site. Aniela is a well-thought out and formatted piece and will certainly be a template for future character articles I work on. Actene: Heaven and Earth
  3. TPF's output on this character has been consistent through the year. Something I notice is all the quotes used in the bio are direct, from the character to an interview audience, and while I typically opt for quotes you might find in prose, I have to admit it makes for a kind of internal consistency in the article I appreciate. Some of it feels a bit cut-and-dry to me, without lingering detail about her role in developing MJOLNIR data-gathering software (maybe that'd be the ARTEMIS System eventually?) or how she felt about her ODST service being cut short beyond what's in the quote. But, some people appreciate that more factual approach to a bio, and I can't fault them for that. Rounded out with supplementary sections, it makes for a solid overall article for TPF's cast. Best Covenant Character of the Year[]

Zil 'Kanayee (Ado 'Ulamee)[]

Voting (7)[]
  1. After the first time I read Zil's article a couple months ago, i've slowly grown more and more curious of Ado's continuation of this character. Even now, when I read this article, I feel as if I'm reading a legend rather than just another character. The content is well-written, captivating and fascinating. I cannot wait to read more on Zil's future endeavors Navisiul97
  2. As per Navisu's vote. I would recommend that Ado find more images to use to make the page more visually engaging, but I appreciate the effort he has put into Zilo's character. Actene: Heaven and Earth
  3. Ado has taken a different role in tackling Covenant history. He's willing to explore areas we do not touch often and inject his fanon material that way. I think he's editting off a phone which makes this even more impressive. Has my vote. ThePeteFiles (talk) 19:01, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
  4. I must to say that Ado has improved this article greatly from when he competed against Kelvaaro 'Shrykaree last year. He definitely deserves the win this time around! UnggoyZealot
  5. While not the longest or most developed page in the running for Best Covenant character, I find myself returning to Ado's work on Zil 'Kanayee. His placement in an unexplored Covenant era to the larger part of the Halo universe is really the selling point for me in this match up. Zil still needs images but what's here is a excellent start. Lezo and Ceo are also well written Sangheili articles but I think Lezo could use some more development especially outside the Battle of Puerto Rico which is an excellent scenario but much of what is there I feel is still a bit underdeveloped. Ceo is much more developed than both competitors but also struggles in that it makes it hard to examine with its overabundance of text walls. I look forward to seeing more from all these articles in the next year. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
  6. Elite preferred species. Seriously tho, nice to see so many articles from new writers up this year.User:Spartan-D042

DOR-class fleet carrier (Pejorative Contingency)[]

Voting (9)[]
  1. This vote is a close call, but I'll have to cast mine here for the DOR-class thanks to the greater volume of content on the page and collaboration with other users. Actene: Heaven and Earth
  2. While I might suggest a proofread and adjusting the width of some images, this article has sprung out of nowhere to present 50k bytes of content pretty capably in the span of about two weeks. The content's laid out well, it incorporates size comparison charts, tables, and custom renders to illustrate the original creation. The Banished version in particular's a great addition. To put out that much so quickly, I'd almost suspect Pejorative Contingency had it elsewhere, but the edit history shows it's been added to and edited piecemeal, so fairly sure it's safe or at least, I have yet to find evidence otherwise. It's an impressive example of what one person can do in a short timeframe when they're dedicated to a singular project. That Damn Sniper 23:59, 19 December 2021 (UTC)
  3. A solid class of vessels that is well storied, with fleshed out subsystems. A fine contribution, indeed. Sabre_Dance_Icon.png Sabre Dance (Talk) (Contribs) 08:15, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
  4. A new user with an in-depth focus on a Covenant ship that plays an interesting role in the Covenant's Navy, has my vote. ThePeteFiles (talk) 19:05, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
  5. I like how the article is organized. The ship feels believable with with proper size and stats for a vessel of its class. The battles add wonderful detail alongside the images, though I think a few may need to be resized. Overall I'd say it has my vote, quite impressive. Ado 'Ulamee(Ado 'Ulamee) 6:40, 26 December, 2021(UTC)
  6. Have to give this to my nomination here. While the Puerto Rican Star is certainly a good article in its own right, and could stand for next year with a bit more expansion, its length holds it back for me. That is, however, not to say the DOR doesn't stand on its own. A well-developed article, with good images including hand-drawn art, which covers all the stops I'd like to see in a ship class page? That's AA-worthy to me. Can't wait to see it with even more polish applied next year. Timothy Emeigh 06:00, 2021-12-28
  7. DOR-class needs quite a bit of work I think, cleaning up some of the grammar and larger text walls. I also emphasize that Pejorative take recommendations Sev40 made on the article's talk page some serious consideration because while a small number of points are a matter of personal style, the majority concerns would greatly improve the article. I also like the art and creativity on display, I really want to nickname the series of carriers "Covenant basking sharks" due to the gapped hangar bay under the ship's main bridgeway. Given the amount of content on display, I don't think its a real contest. My Puerto Rican Star just isn't cut out to compete with this achievement. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

  1. Although I rarely have much constructive feedback to offer on tech article's, the effort Distant has poured into this canon expansion really shines through in the level of detail on display here. Actene: Heaven and Earth
  2. Tide went into this article knowing he was taking a risk; Infinite had yet to release and new canon material was almost certain to force changes on him to keep in line with canon. And yet, a surprising amount of the article's content has remained as it was first set up, despite a couple page name changes. The Volkskarabiner name and variants blurbs describing their use by different organizations and branches are a great way to set up their place across the various theatres of Halo fiction. The amount of research that went into the proper classification of the weapon one also has to respect, even if Tide might be the only one who'd so stringently pursue such categorization. So with a bit of educated guessing, biding time on areas you know you'll get more info, and a willingness to change, I guess it's never too early to start a canon expansion. That Damn Sniper 00:37, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
  3. Totally not biased here, totally don't have any sort of deep love for the VK78. But seriously, Tide has kocked it outta the park on this one and I deeply enjoy this page. PS-001 "Freehander" Militarized Exoskeleton (Kojima sama)[]

Voting (1)[]
  1. The Freehander reminds me of something about early Halo concept art and stylistic designs that favored Aliens Colonial Marines and a Vietnam War aesthetic thrusted into space. Halo doesn't have much in the way of a expansion on that small arms/small soldier aesthetic until you get into Spartans and big alien threats, but the Freehander fits in well and fits well into the Insurrection scene where large exoskeletons present a oppurtunity rarely seen to at least try and match supersoldier prowess. Big unwieldy guns and bulbous scrap metal hulls are awesome and I like how Kojima has developed these concepts in-universe with description notes on how they've been worked on. They remind me a bit of some Gundam universe designs populating that franchise on the civilian side. I kind of wish these predated Covenant first contact but otherwise its a well made article and a excellent addition to the Halo Fanon sandbox. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

OPERATION: OCTOBER (Kojima sama)[]

Voting (4)[]
  1. ONI cloak-and-dagger really is an underutilized facet of Halo, both in canon and fanon. Some of the best stories on either side come from it, from Hunt the Truth to VORAUSSICHT, and OCTOBER does a great job with the backdrop of ONI's change of reigns to Osman after Parangosky held them through the HCW. With it over, it's time for changes, and some aren't willing to go quietly. Plus, it's nice to see a couple of ONI-variant vehicles from Halo 5 getting a story use. That Damn Sniper 00:59, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
  2. Operation: OCTOBER is a very cool ONI internal war concept done with appropriate awareness towards the fragility of canon and the scope and scale of ONI's internal affairs that it doesn't mess to much with canon to my knowledge. I would like to see some examination of the grammar however in part due to noticable spelling out numbers in full rather than just using numeric values among potential other stylistic problems. Excellent work. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
  3. ONI cloak and dagger is my crack.User:Spartan-D042

Battle of Briar (Ahalosniper and Ajax 013)[]

Voting (5)[]
  1. Perhaps one of the longest running event collaboration I've ever seen; Sniper and Ajax have really poured a lot of creative energy into fleshing out both human and Covenant perspectives in a deadly HCW flashpoint. Actene: Heaven and Earth
  2. Briar takes place in an interesting time where there has been an extensive amount of thought put into the force deployed, addition of battlefield kilts, and a realistic setup for a planetary battle. It already has a great deal of information down and I look forward to watching its development. ThePeteFiles (talk) 19:09, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
  3. Briar is a project longtime coming between Halo Fanon heavy-weights Ajax and Sniper. Given the great mix of unit orders of battle and descriptions for key events and background for the Battle of Briar, I'd say this is a project that is uniquely equipped to display these writers' strengths. I would love to see more images for this project, however, because right now it feels a little bare. All in due time. Great work once more. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
  4. Tough choice here, but I think that the collabroative effort on this article and its layout does give it a bit of an edge, in addition to it being a compelling article to read. Brodie-001: Finished the fight

Derelict B42 (Kojima sama)[]

Voting (4)[]
  1. Kojima's got quite a number of these short but well-rounded articles covering odd corners of possibility in Halo. B42's article has everything one needs to use it as a story setting, from history to locales to the major NPCs like a tabletop RPG module. It actually reminds me of Tyraxus Tribe in that way. Anyone with a crew of spacers would have all they need in this page to plan out a short story for them visiting, and that sets the imagination turning. Great stuff. That Damn Sniper 07:19, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
  2. As per Sniper. I'm quite the fan of the frontier universe Kojima is expanding on. Actene: Heaven and Earth
  3. Kojima nailed the Best Location section this year with not just one, but two excellently written location articles. However, I feel that Derelict B42 edges over 3F7B by offering more palette for interaction through stories and roleplay than 3F7B which offers as many oppurtunities but less of the speech variety. Derelict could use more subheader sections for parts like the Figures of Interest to break up the larger sections. 3F7B offers much in the same way to Derelict for oppurtunities but feels more one-note and tries to experiment a little too much by being more of a empty graveyard of ships to pick at for a side mission than a setting to return to again and again, being set on a colony with little information compared to canon locales like Carrow or Aleria that would be equal to host the ship graveyard than Kaer I simply feel it doesn't offer as much as it could with a few elements that feel rather traditional or experimental with a lack of full exploration, it could use a little more fleshing out for why readers/fellow writers should come back to this empty desert watching over dead vessels from an even deader age. Great work on both, but Derelict glows a great deal more in my consideration. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

Far Harvest Legion (Distant Tide)[]

Voting (4)[]
  1. What can I say here that I haven't already in a GA vote? There are starting to be a few articles stretching a tenuous hand into the post-Created world now that it seems canon's given us permission to move forward. Before long, we're going to be looking at a Halo galaxy with multiple human factions, and potentially conflicts entirely un-involved with the UNSC. The Imperium of Clarity's rise and fall may prove a harbinger of things to come, with new frontier states rising and falling with the turn of fortunes. And Distant's staking his plot early here with a solidly expanded article covering the FHL's origins, members, relations, and capabilities. I wish you good fortune in the wars to come, as war seems to be in the faction's disposition. That Damn Sniper 04:41, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
  2. With Halo's focus on Covenant and Forerunner baddies, it's nice to see the fandom working to construct compelling human antagonists--especially now that Halo 5 has opened the floodgates for better armed and equipped paramilitary groups. Actene: Heaven and Earth
  3. Really love seeing non-UNSC groups that have resources at their disposal, and this article delivers this with all the technical finesse for formatting and content that you'd want as well. Timothy Emeigh 06:00, 2021-12-28

Voting (2)[]
  1. If you've been in the community long enough, you'll know that Tide is the biggest shill for Ghost in the Shell and can't get enough of it. I'm glad to see material from Standalone Complex make it onto the wiki. In fact we have something in common... Umibōzu. That said, of consideration for this year's best organization - I can't emphasize enough how quickly and effectively Kojima started to pump out articles. SPECWAR/Group Two is my choice for Best Organization this year because I think its better formatted with only one historical section whereas its Nachiketa brother-page doesn't feature as clean formatting with a bunch of history sections staggered without subheading or hierarchy. Group Two is not as universally interesting as Nachiketa since the lack of exploration for Insurrection in the Halo universe but I just find myself more enamored with this professional SF organization. I do suggest parsing the article for grammar and stylistic issues, I noticed later in the article that number counts are written in their full alphabetic descriptor rather than actual arabic numerals. A rule of thumb I have is that any number above 12 (twelve) should be written as numbers, with exception to tens-place tens-spots (e.g. 10, 20, 30, 40, etc.) up to one hundred. After that they should all be written as numbers. It may show badly on me how much cyberpunk or sci fi anime I've watched because I think with 99% confidence I can tell where every image used in SPECWAR/Group Two comes from. I'd like to see more diverse and possibly more consistent image usage going forward with articles in the future as well - I don't feel that UN troops in a GITS cyberpunk Mexico and undercover insurgents from Psycho-Pass mesh too well. Excellent work in conclusion. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

Best Concept of the Year[]

Halo: Stolen Gauntlet (Ahalosniper)[]

Voting (6)[]
  1. While sporting a more entertaining premise than your standard FPS-inspired game concept, Stolen Gauntlet really shines through with Sniper's expansion on the "real world" meta-concept behind the game. His tongue-in-cheek segments regarding development issues and fan reactions, as well as references to stock fighting game tropes, really makes the article a fun read. Actene: Heaven and Earth
  2. Video game article supremacy endures. UnggoyZealot
  3. An article that ties in both video game formatting and fanon characters. It's an interesting mix of the two that Sniper executed very well. ThePeteFiles (talk) 18:02, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
  4. Have your victory sir, S-D379 has been demanding more game articles since the year before I think. He got his request in this excellent fighting game concept that crowds a bunch of well-established Fanon characters into a mini-universe where they just beat one another up for life and death situations, and then there's those that fight because someone needs to do a grocery run. It's comedic, absurd, and a chance to have some fun with the appending voice lines page. I'm glad to have been able to contribute to it as writing for this format was a lot of fun. The addition of fictional real life receptions is a surprising and unique addition I think to the article's overall presentation and gives a good laugh knowing that Fanon characters are not necessarily going to succeed as official personalities in the Halo universe but we love our characters and that's what matters. Great work! - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

Best Collaboration of the Year[]

RP:Imperium/Content/Part Two (Brodie-001)[]

Voting (7)[]
  1. It has been many long years to my memory since an on-site RP was actually completed. The streak was broken due to Brodie's nigh-inhuman dedication to seeing it through, and the few contributors to keep posting through the end (which alas, I cannot name myself among). Surpassing Loosing Hope and Dwindling Flame, the RP eventually hit Wikia's page byte limit at long last and was forced to divide late last year. Hundreds of thousands more bytes of content were added by the time this wrapped up, and there are still a couple points I think some users mean to expound on before it will truly lie untouched. So in recognition of its Herculean effort to bring it to a finish, I support Imperium's second half as the Collab to be called out for this year. That Damn Sniper 23:38, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
  2. As per the above. RPs are notoriously hard to corral and pull through, but Brodie's singular dedication to this project created not only a compelling stand-alone story in its own right but also fertile soil for plenty of long-lasting collaboration. Actene: Heaven and Earth
  3. Finally another site RP that finished, after all these years... UnggoyZealot
  4. Another site achievement. The longest prose roleplay in site history. 2020 and 2021 seem like record years set by Halo Fanon site veterans. Glad to have participated in the Imperial War as a rapid, manuverability warfare setting where many Spartans, soldiers, Marines, Sangheili zealots and aristocrats took to the field of battle and met their match and metal. I still owe some incompleted concepts to this project but I may have to push those off to a standalone or add as post-mortem bits. Thank you so very much Brodie for hosting us, you're a great roleplay master. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

Best Novel of the Year[]

Halo: Heaven and Earth/Book Three: Heaven and Earth (Actene)[]

Voting (7)[]
  1. I've followed this book trilogy for several years now very intimiately. It's one thing to comment about some of my key characters being present in the story, or that I've given feedback and sometimes helped in giving Actene ideas for the story overall, but the story offers its own true merits. A sometimes rushed or jumbled novel, but a titanic undertaking likely unmatched in Halo Fanon's long history. Despite feeling like Actene's attempt to carthartically and spitefully rewrite Stannis Baratheon's Battle of Winterfell from Game of Thrones, in this and many other things Actene does well. So many scenic moments that will stick with me as a Halo fanfic writer and reader - getting to see the tight-lipped Simon finally and fully open up to a stranger. The long march to certain death through a killer blizzard to reach a battle seeming never in reach. The final choking sputters of the old interstellar powers as the Created puppet them to their graves. Games of espionage, spycraft, and strategic warfare. Some of the constructive critiques I can offer to Actene is the concerns of pacing, minor and unchecked spelling/grammar, lost narrative oppurtunities, and more time dedicated to rushed battles. But he already knows all that. Despite these minor weaknesses, what I think we have here is Actene's site magnum opus until he surpasses this project too. He's ended the stories of many characters, brought closure and depth to many others. Many characters brought to life not his own. It reveals great skill and dedication on his part; a two-three year journey approaching its close. It was nice to be a part of this journey Actene, thank you for letting my characters and ideas be a part of your world. It really has been a grand adventure. I look forward to the projects that follow. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer
  2. Was there ever any doubt? When talking to people outside fanon about what keeps me here, this is what I talk to them about. This is what its all about. That and failed supersoldier programs. User:Spartan-D042
  3. Do I joke "take your award already" or about how I'll catch up one day? Many writing projects stutter and go quiet before getting very far, and that's alright; we're doing fanfiction for fun, it's not a job, and when one idea no longer excites people move on. Actene's books have long been the exception, staying on target for years at a time now. To do so, he's developed and stuck with certain habits to help maintain consistent output and continue to be invested in the story he's held to over that period. I actually wouldn't mind seeing him do a write-up when done of the strategies he used and how others might apply them, might be useful for the community. Best Short Fiction of the Year[]

Garden (Timothy Emeigh)[]

Voting (1)[]
  1. There were too many good short stories for this Annual Awards. Tim made a good call in nominating his own work though I suspect had he waited, Actene or Sniper or another would've nominated Garden. If not, probably me. I really appreciate Tim is one of the few authors that have taken and ran with my Silent Garden concept since its very confusing introduction and victory at the 2018 Annual Awards. It's ability to be a space for prophetic dreams is a concept stolen from fantasy but one grounded with the space magic of Halo's science fiction. Like just about every nominated short story, Garden enjoys a focus on family and personal relationships that humanizes the characters experiencing life pass them by. I felt like voting for everyone short story separately but I decided to spread out my votes. Garden's excellent use of visual imagery and queues to describe multiple environments and the separation and closeness between an estranged mother and daughter in their later years was a visual feast. I'm glad to get to see it make it to these lofty heights. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

Stories from the Sigmaverse/The Visit (Brodie-001)[]

Voting (2)[]
  1. It was tough to narrow down my favorites for the year, but I'm only allowed to pick two. Brodie's piece makes excellent use of the two characters it features, each an interesting part of their respective authors' works. Plus, their meeting hinges on their association through Project BRUTUS, another of Brodie's excellent works. The tension between them underscores the whole scene, which Redford's character thrives on, and despite putting the reader in Kahn's corner makes no apologies for his leaving the Engels hanging. It's a neat snapshot of life during the Human-Covenant War, with ONI unwilling to let go of its best with a war to fight. That Damn Sniper 21:25, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

DT 2021: Roland Tries (Distant Tide)[]

Voting (2)[]
  1. As far as character pieces for underappreciated canon figures, Distant's piece here got me to sympathize for one I never expected to care about. Roland was one of Halo 4's more fun character additions, despite getting very little spotlight time and the question he raised about Cortana in 5 un-answered. So getting his perspective as the people he wanted to care about as denizens of the ship in his charge slowly harden against AIs is hard not to feel for. And it makes me wonder about how a post-Created humanity might start treating the remaining AIs, including those who didn't join Cortana (as we've got more than a few additions to Roland in our fanon). Will we see a UNSC working to wipe out the remaining AIs and no longer use them? Keep them shackled like Huragok were in the Covenant? Both interesting options. That Damn Sniper 21:25, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
  2. I found Tide's portrayal of what Roland had to go through due to the Created quite sad and touching, watching Roland slowly lose those he considers family. It does have a sort of warm ending thanksnro Andrea, in my opinion.Ado 'Ulamee

  1. I have an interesting relationship with Falkeno's Answers in that we discussed and both explored concepts about Spartans after the Covenant War receiving the oppurtunity to learn about themselves in the aftermath of narrative beats set up by Halo: Glasslands and Mortal Dictata by Karen Traviss. Getting to be in the headspace of a consummate Spartan like those of Falk's works, and to see specifically canonical characters be vulnerable beyond their canonical means is a pleasure to read. We are a Halo fanfiction wiki and Spartans are our bread and butter, but working around canon Spartans can be a dance of difficulty. Whereas I feel several other entries in this Annual Awards were more towards characters reacting to moments occuring around them, Answers offers a tale specifically about Spartans coming to terms with fundamental events and details to themselves. Life changing moments like these in particular are important to approach carefully with and I think Falk has done that and done it with great prose. - Distant Tide: Hunter - Killer

He tells good stories and makes great character images. 1. Kojima arrived and hit the ground running. He already has a number of writing projects that are extremely interesting to read, flow very well with his narrative and he's active on both the site and discord. Along with his project, he's won a few awards so far and his efforts have been excellent in creating content that's not only good, but also worth nominating, as you can see throughout the AA nominations. Looking forward to see what else he brings to the site. ThePeteFiles (talk) 19:15, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
  2. After showing up in April of this year, KS has steadily worked on a handful of articles which by now are thorough explorations of their founding concepts. He's found about the right length for these pages, too, allowing him to finish out a page without losing steam on the idea, and refrained from spreading himself too thin. Looking at ideas I want to hammer out next year as one-offs, I can look to these for an idea of just how far to go before curtailing myself. So aye, good show.
