The original Halo novels are being updated to accommodate new canon, and its being written by none other than Nylund. Fall of Reach is confirmed and The Flood and First Strike will likely follow. Discuss.

God damn, I am NOT forking over 24+ bucks for the same books, with a few canon revisions. Even with an awesome change of cover art, there would need to be more then that to warrent the purchase of them. Rainbow_Dash.pngRainbow Dash (Talk)(Contribs)

I'll wait for them to appear on PaperBackSwap. Probably won't be too long, too.

I like the new front cover. I'm just confused about what the default colour and armour is for a SPARTAN at a specific time. It seems that throughout the series at certain points there's SPARTANS of the same class in different armour, which shouldn't be in existence at that time then there's different colours and then some are all the same sage/olive colour. I'm rather confused. Canon has been very mixed and thrown about over the last ten years.

343 Industries just issued an announcement that stated the updates to The Fall of Reach would only consist of fixing typos and stuff like that. Additions to the novels would not be "fixed"/"retconned" into the original story written by Eric Nylund. I'll say it again, nothing is being added into the story, just simply added into the novel itself.
"...including art and a series of short artifacts and stories that provide fascinating new detail for each novel and shed light on some of the greatest mysteries of the Halo universe."
―343 Industries source

What that's saying is that you'll be able to get a fresh new copy of one of the better Halo novels, and get more for your money.

Saw that myself on HBO. Damn. I was actually looking forward to an updated canon book; it'd be good, since its by Nylund, but we wouldn't have to tiptoe around FoR, TF, and FS's canon anymore. Though I'm still hoping that those "artifacts and stories" might explain the SPARTAN disrepancy better than my 80 SPARTANs theory.

Meh, I hated TFoR. Hopefully they get Dietz to write The Flood again. -- Sergeant Major Arnold Lewis, UNSC Naval Special Warfare Development Group[COM] 13:37, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, same here. The only book by Nylund that I liked was Ghosts of Onyx. --Gunnery Sergeant Pete Stacker, UNSC Marine Corps 21:33, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Heresy!

While I do like Nylund, I just feel that Dietz had a better military knowledge; he was, after all, a U.S. Marine.

Which is of course, after all, he has marines saying hoo-ah...

At any rate, I like Nylund best because I felt his depiction of the SPARTANs and above all, the chief, were the most compelling. Plus, he was big on the space battle stuff, which has always been my favorite, and the Flood was so boring it was absurd (porting games directly to books really does not work overly well). Staten is a close second, but I don't like the Cole Protocol because the canon contradictions outweigh the story (Contact Harvest has loads of problems to--at least in my mind--but the strong story, at least for me, outweighs this). Oh, and I really like Karen Traviss and Fred Van Lente for their work in Evolutions.

(Boy, was that a rant...

I will more then likely buy this book. Since we are expressing our views on the books I shall place my own down as well.

  • Fall of Reach: Have not read it for a while as a lent into a friend and he still has not returned it after 5 years. Overall I enjoyed the story.
  • The Flood: Also enjoyed this one but found something a little unlikely and confusing when compared to the game.
  • First Strike: Nice to have some link between Halo and Halo 2 however I did laugh at some of the points in it.
  • Ghosts of Onyx: Interesting to know what happen to some of the SPARTAN-II's and introduction to the SPARTAN-III's.
  • Contact Harvest: To find out how it call started was great however some of the things I thought fucked up can. For example Brutes being the first invaders.
  • Cole Protocol: I actually enjoyed this story knowing about rifts in the Covenant as well as SPARTAN teams work behind the enemy lines.
  • Evolutions: I have this as an audiobook and it is most enjoyable. My favour stories are The Mona Lisa and Dirt.

Overall there are no books I hate I just find minor faults with them. Please respect that these are my opinions. S. S.D.D 23:07, May 25, 2010 (UTC)

I want Karen Traviss to write a noevl and she just might. I asked through my e-mail one and she said this:

Me"Will you write any more Halo stuff? I doubt you can tell me but......I would love to see what you can do with ODSTs.

Karen:Re other books - you’re right, I can’t say if I’m doing specific work or not until the companies concerned announce things. All I can say is that I’ve got a lot of new work coming out, so if you keep checking my blog and web site, all my new books and comics will be announced there.--"History is written by the victor.History is filled with liars. 23:13, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
