The First Battle of Callisto was an engagement between the United Nations and the Secessionist League in the first hours of the Jovian Moons Campaign. League forces ambushed UN peacekeepers and security forces on Callisto while a League freighter surprised a pair of UN Space Authority destroyers nearby. Though the attack on UN space forces failed, the Secessionist League ground offensive convinced the UN to temporarily withdraw its forces from Callisto and retreat to Europa.

Battle

Approximately five minutes after the launch of the ground offensive, Captain Anton Zaytsev of the Independence initiated hostilities against the UNSA destroyers Pusan and Sacramento, firing two missiles at each spacecraft. Both destroyers went to full alert and engaged suitable countermeasures; the two missiles targeting Sacramento were easily intercepted and destroyed, as was one of the missiles targeting Pusan. The second missile aimed at the Pusan was caught late, exploding dangerously close the smaller warship. Realizing the danger the Sacramento clearly presented, Zaytsev ordered the Independence to roll in order to target the destroyer with his remaining four missiles.

Unsure of the Pusan's status and observing the maneuvers of the Independence, Captain Konig ordered an immediate counterattack on the league spacecraft: Sacramento subsequently fired two missiles in quick succession. As the Independence lacked countermeasures, the league freighter was destroyed and its crew killed, including Captain Zaytsev.
