Biography[]

Childhood[]

"You know, a part of me wants to hate you for what you did to me and how it was all your fault....but somehow I can't stop blaming myself."
―Kyle reflecting on his traumatic childhood to Catherine Halsey.

Kyle Halsey was born in March 19, 2533 to scientist Nathan Halsey and former ODST turned gym teacher Trisha Gale sharing the same birth date as his aunt on Tilamook Bay, Oregon. He lived a normal childhood and attended pre-K where he excelled in mainly math as a child while maintaining a social demeanor. When he became five years old, his mom would regale him with war stories while his dad told tales of his work as an AI researcher and worked on their programming. Kyle's mom would take him out shooting cans in a junkyard using her M6C/SOCOM pistol used in her ODST days as an added bonus too. But that all changed when his father gave medical supplies to Insurrectionists by accident resulting in his paranoia coming to light.

Nathan suffered a full on mental breakdown afterwards thinking he was being watched at work and in home, one time was that an argument happened between him and his wife accusing her for infidelity with a coworker she's been seeing even threatening to shoot a neighbor's child when his ball landed in the backyard thinking it was a hidden camera. One day, Nathan had enough and began thinking his wife and son was an ONI operative and a flash clone so he grabbed a shotgun from the cabinet to kill them both. Trisha witnessed it and told Kyle to hide in his closet while she went to her bed to get her M7S from an extra hatch in her room then waited for her husband to come into the hallway then shot him dead. Trisha took Kyle and the two went on the run in the process eating in restaurants and sleeping in either homeless shelters and motels or in their car.

But hope came in the form of an old friend who was tracking her down, Cynthia Anderson, who offered the two a home to stay in as Trisha realized that Kyle would be better off without her and that she was ruining his life despite the fun they had. Cynthia told Trisha that she will take care of him with the latter telling her to treat him like her own son before saying her goodbyes after dinner then drove away to turn herself in. Anderson sat with Kyle watching the stars before she became his legal guardian with Kyle's teenage years mired with even more bullying which was stopped when Anderson found out so she intimidated said bullies talking about a war story she had, Kyle exhibited attributes to children considered for the Spartan-II program which bothered the veteran.

Anderson proved to be an effective figure in Kyle's life serving as both his mom and dad yet was extremely busy as well. She wasn't around much but she would always leave Kyle a strong impression and influence over him as time went on. He lived in a secluded neighborhood for most of his childhood and witnessed the end of the Covenant War resulting in celebration.

Serin Osman on the other hand saw him as ONI's answer to Chief and had influenced his life monitoring him with the future director considering to raise the boy hoping Anderson would give him up to her. Kyle met Osman once during a field trip and two talked about the Spartan-IV program also Catherine Halsey's research and how Osman saw potential in Kyle acting as a pseudo-mentor for him. He left afterwards remembering Osman's speech looking at a Spartan-IV poster nearby. ONI saw this entire plan into making him into a Spartan by manipulating his destiny as a failure and left him alone knowing that Anderson had won over him.

Early Military Career[]

Kyle graduated high school as the valedictorian thanking his mom and Cynthia in his speech for making it all possible for himself to move on from the tragedy that haunted him for his whole life. Cynthia was there as well with her Spartan fireteam known as fireteam Tango with the CO absent. He soon attended college as well and graduated with a degree in AI research as a prodigy.

But his world turned upside down again when his friends invited him to a music festival which he took with stride for celebration. What they didn't know was that the festival's conditions were too harsh with water being at an expensive price and food as well and tempers flared into a full on riot. Kyle attempted to escape but because he was too dehydrated, he drank water spiked with drugs and partook in the rioting before getting tasered by the police after setting a stage on fire to clear out the rioters to make his escape. He woke up in a jail cell afterwards and met with Cynthia explaining he might be sentenced in prison for arson so he chose to go on court with his lawyer defending him. Knowing he would be going to prison regardless, Kyle requested an alternate solution: Service in the army. The judge and the UNSC later granted him this sentence meaning he would have to serve four years in the UNSC Navy. Kyle was stationed on a UNSC ship called the Locus and received a rather negative welcome from the crew because the entire incident was caught on footage resulting in him sort of being infamous and also an internet yet proved himself once again to be an exceptional worker showing off his skills in technology when he repaired the slip-space drive after it was damaged in a brief skirmish with pirates while also tricking them into boarding the ship where he put the nonessential supplies into the airlock saying it was where they stored their belongings and was haunted by the experience due to this being his first time taking a life. Another incident involved Kig-Yar space pirates invading where he and a couple of crew members led by his friend, Sandra, who weren't taken hostage, to route the pirates into the hanger where two members would use a warthog's turret to mow them down with the plan as success therefore freeing the ship.

Kyle was mysteriously put into the candidates of the Spartan-IV program for his intellect and tactical prowess, it's implied it may have been ONI seeing another chance in turning him into their Spartan, and was indeed chosen for it. He was given his augmentations and later was transferred to the UNSC Infinity.

Spartan-IV Program[]

"Feels like it's made for me."
―-Kyle describing his EOD suit.

Kyle was later approached by Jun and was inducted into the Spartan-IV program after ONI ordered him to do so with the intent on restarting their attempt to turn him into the new Master Chief or their personal headhunter. He would train along with Gabriel Thorne and became good friends with him during his stay, unlike the other trainees, Kyle chose EOD armor instead of recruit.

Requiem Campaign[]

"You know I have a general run down at this point: If it's blocky and shoots bullets then it's UNSC, if it's round and shoots laser then it's Covenant and if it's Forerunner then it has a sharp shape with floaty bits while shooting lasers."
―Kyle's journal when it comes to identifying targets.

Kyle was put into fireteam Coyote which was a Spartan group that specialized in desert reconnaissance serving as their demolitions expert and met his former guardian after years of silence between them with neither a hello or goodbye and the two shared a brief conversation before being roll called by Sarah Palmer which she took notice to him. The team was deployed in the desert terrain of the planet where Kyle sketched numerous pictures of the structures but never encountered Covenant activity until they ran into a Promethean patrol which surrounded the Spartans as Kyle assisted them fighting them off by setting up improvised homemade explosive traps while retreating and even causing a cave-in for the constructs to be destroyed and the remaining killed by the team due to the young Halsey's thinking then made it out safe returning to the Infinity earning the praise of his teammates.

He would later meet Catherine Halsey face to face upon finding her in the brig hearing the news of her presence on the Infinity then requested Palmer to talk to her by mentioning that she's family and could get intel off her. Catherine heard the news of what happened to his father and mother and was generally surprised that he became a Spartan which she found like a sick joke or the universe punishing her for her crimes but saw this had ONI written all over it as the two conversed with Kyle asking her if she really did do those things to the children which she confirmed that she did which distressed him, unable to hide his emotions of disgust and horror, Catherine realized that Kyle couldn't handle the details then told him that he can go but chose to stay and changed the conversation to life and how he's been doing with the latter proud that he became a valedictorian just like her while also telling him of the stories from his childhood with some tears and laughs at the same time. Kyle was called in by his CO which he decided to leave cutting their conversation short and bid her farewell hoping to speak again one day. He later heard Lasky's conversation with Palmer when he was suiting up but played along pretending not to hear it.

This however, never came to be when Halsey defected to Jul'Madama's Covenant shattering whatever bond they had left while also fighting the Prometheans off on the ship with Niles-132 and Cynthia. When the invasion ended and the gravity tethers were destroyed by Majestic and Crimson, Kyle was left questioning if his aunt was a sociopath trying make herself look good. ONI saw his performance on Requiem seeing it as training for him so the real war is about to begin as they pulled out Riley-B019 from the second incarnation of Noble Team and told Rosenda-A344 to visit the Infinity where she witnessed his skills in War Games where he would outsmart the Spartans by his use of distractions and traps alongside expertise in demolitions earning his place as the new Noble-Six.

Kyle later confronted Lasky about the conversation in private asking if he ordered the kill mission which he didn't but it was ONI resulting in a heated argument as Kyle told him that he should've stopped her from doing it. Palmer heard the conversation in the halls and addressed Kyle to end the conversation as he stormed off to get in the pelican that was heading to Oban.
