Caleb Butler (born c. 2533) is a SPARTAN-IV of the UNSC Spartan Operations and the fireteam leader of Fireteam Victoria of the Battle Group Frigg Spartan contingent.
Biography[]
Earlier life and military career[]
Caleb Butler was born in Irene, URNA, Earth in the year 2533, and at the age of 17 during the Human-Covenant War, he enlisted in the UNSC Army. After two years of service, he joined the UNSC Army Rangers just before the Covenant invaded Earth.
Battle of Earth[]
Butler, a Private First Class at the time, and his platoon of Rangers were deployed on the outskirts of Sydney, Australia in order to destroy a trio of Covenant Type-38 Tyrant anti-aircraft (AA) guns that had been denying the evacuation of the city. The Rangers were met with Covenant resistance several hundred meters away from their target, and a fuel rod barrage separated Butler from his fellow troopers. The chaos forced the other Rangers to continue with the mission, with Butler presumed dead. The Covenant infantry, however, pursued the rest of the UNSC infantry and left the separated soldier alone, also unaware of his survival.
Traumatized by the near-death experience, Butler spent many minutes of contemplation which was only elongated when he saw a pair of Phantoms soar overhead to the target site. He managed to muster enough courage to regroup with his fellow soldiers and on his way to the destination, he saw the same two Phantoms fly away from the outpost. By the time Butler arrived, all of his allies were killed, although they succeeded in destroying the Covenant AA guns. Any surviving Covenant had also abandoned the small base, now that it could no longer serve its purpose.
Butler then wandered alone until he establish contact with other UNSC forces.
Post-war[]
Following the end of the Human-Covenant War, Butler was praised for his actions during the Battle of Earth and was believed to have taken part in the destruction of the Covenant AA guns, due to the lack of surviving witnesses. Deep down, however, he knew that he would not have survived had he actually regrouped with his platoon to finish the mission. Out of fear of repercussions he may face, Butler chose to keep this secret to himself. He would then volunteer to join the SPARTAN-IV program and was made the leader of Fireteam Victoria, which became a part of Battle Group Frigg's Spartan contingent.

As a SPARTAN-IV, Caleb Butler wears the Stalker variant of MJOLNIR GEN2 armor. He most frequently wields an MA5D with a COG sight as his main weapon and an M6H2 as his sidearm.
