Team Hatchet, more formally styled as TEAM HATCHET and sometimes referred to simply as HATCHET, was a 5-man team from the Spartan III program's Gamma Company team attached to Special Warfare Group 3, with its members being dubbed as Category-II's, informally known as 'Cat-II's', under the leadership of Noah-G054.
Team Hatchet would be regarded as the 'most problematic' of the Gamma Company teams, albeit its fourth most effective team out of the entirety of the company. Behind Teams Sabre, Katana and Gladius.
In 2542, the team that would become Team Hatchet was formed by Lieutenant commander Kurt Ambrose, out of Spartan candidates that had been matched together due to their skill sets and individual effectiveness.

Following the end of the Human-Covenant War, Team Hatchet was formally inducted into SPECWAR/Group Three under the direct supervision of Commander Ayrton-A384. However, owing to their reliance on smoothers and aware of the consequences of the Gamma's being unable to acquire them, it was decided to limit the teams future operations to short term deployments and 'plain clothes' missions. This restriction in Hatchet's area of operation was not singularly as a result of the smoothers issue, but a decision made to take advantage of the Gamma's smaller size in comparison to the older Spartan's, which would allow them to go largely unnoticed by a civilian population, due to being closer to average human height.
