The DRP-class tank cruiser is a cruiser-class warship utilised by the Covenant Empire during the Human-Covenant War. Introducted in 2129, these cruisers ware originally designed as flagships for task forces in fight against Kig-Yar pirates and Heretic factions using less resources to build and maintain than other warship of similar size.

Despite being considered effective ships, many Sangheili shipmasters avoided those cruisers from being used due to the lack of adequate weaponry, which is considered an unforgivable flaw. This has resulted in the suspension of the widespread deployment of those warships until the dawn of the war against humanity. During the war, the DRP-class cruisers were mainly used to absorb as many hits as possible and alleviate pressure from other ships in their fleets.

Operational History[]

At the time the Human-Covenant War erupted, shipmasters began to recognize the need to counter heavy-hitting UNSC capital ships without having to risk losing more valuable assets such as CCS-class battlecruisers. In this case, the DRP-class cruisers was quickly placed into mainline fleets, being first encountered by the UNSC on 2527. Commonly sent ahead of the main force, the DRP had one single objective: absorb as many hits as possible and alleviate pressure from other ships in the fleet. This abnormal role among Covenant fleets earned the crews of DRP-classes a unique form of respect among other Covenant crews, being heralded as defenders of the fleet.
