“Hey bro, what’s your rate?”

Samuel looked down at a Marine staring back up at him. The ride to HIGHCOM Facility Bravo-6 was going to turn into something interesting for the Marines. They never sat next to SPARTANs and the Lance Corporal decided to strike up a conversation with one.

Sam shrugged his shoulders and tilted his head. “RP.”
  +
  +
“Religious Program Specialist? Shit dude, what’s your NEC?”
  +
  +
“Outreach Support.”

Draven smiled behind his visor; he always enjoyed the reaction from whoever he told that to. He never expected Sam to have a sense of humor. Looking at his visor, their ETA was three minutes till arriving at B-6. The Headquarters of the UNSC was going to be protected by the best in the AO.
  +
  +
Red Team was due to meet up with a UNICOM Special Warfare Task Force assigned to B-6 to provide personnel security details for any significant leaders. They weren’t going to sit back at HQ and handle the security tasks. It was going to be a more offensive force to protect the HQ from getting attacked.
  +
  +
“Almost on-site, we’ll do a read in on the AOR and go to work after. Grab what you need and check what assets we have in the area. Since it’s HQ, we’ll have a lot of assets available to use. Make sure we know what those are.” Oriana looked at her team then back at the Crew Chief. “Let’s make sure we do this right.”

Once the Pelican landed, Sam and the rest of Red made their way into Bravo-6. The complex was sprawling with next generation defense systems and an overabundance of security forces stationed around the area. Underground, the leaders of the UNSC continued to work together in defending the Sol System. The Covenant had to break Sydney before they were going to take out Bravo-6, just like they did at Reach to Highlands.

Sam found the Air and Space Special Warfare Detachment inside the Special Warfare Joint Operations Center. He stuck out like a sore thumb in his MJOLNIR alongside Draven. The two split off and Sam met with an officer to get a status on the assets they had available.
  +
  +
“What do you need?” The Captain asked as he stared up at Sam. “We got everything at our disposal. Orbital Bombing Strikes, CAS, Drones, and anything in-between. You need it? We got it. Wet Fleet is on standby as well.”
  +

Sam looked at the officer and then at the Communications Sergeant. “I need SATCOM, SECNET, and the SPECWAR BATTLENET for the Region.” He then turned to the officer. “Get me access to the sats and drones, I want access to those when we’re moving. What’s the ROE?”
  +
  +
“Free to engage anything that’s hostile, ROE is relaxed here. If you do Danger Close, make sure you broadcast on the BATTLENET. Other than that, you’re good to send it.”
  +
  +
“Thank you, sir.” He offered a quick salute and made his way out of the SWJOC with Draven waiting for him.
  +
  +
Sam tinkered with his communication channels as they made their way to the C2 Office where Oriana and Emilia were. They were meeting with the Combined Joint Special Warfare Task Force – Sydney Commander to understand the situation and where they were going to be thrown. Clayton gave the team a rough sketch of the area and what they were to expect, but not much more. For once, Sam was glad to not be in a leadership role and trying to figure the mess out.
  +
  +
Oriana only walked away confused with no set mission, a problem with UNICOM. Intel around the area was strained since so many reports were coming in and no one knew where to put forces. Every analyst was reporting every single movement. Red looked at each other and knew what they had to do, create their own mission. There was little information on the Covenant and recce teams were disappearing before they could find what they were looking for.
  +
  +
Looking at a map, Sam noticed a UNSC Army Communications Agency base and discussed the idea of using it as a Forward Operating Base against the Covenant if they hit from the north. However, they were directed by Clayton to head towards Campbelltown after reports of a mechanized force hitting from the south. Red Team was ordered to the front ASAP and all their planning was put aside.

Prologue

0939 Hours, October 24, 2552 (UNSC Military Calendar)

Sol System, Earth, Australia, Outside of Melbourne

Major Clayton Frommenwiler studied the battlefield of Melbourne for the third time. The Covenant continued to establish a footprint in the city. UNSC and local forces were busy trying to contain the Covenant from pushing out of their positions. It was going to be a hard task for the UNSC, they were going up against an agile force. The UNSC declared Operation: CAPITAL SHIELD to envelope all fighting forces under UNSC command operating in the Oceania region.

"At least we don't have to deal with tourists today."

He looked up to see Lieutenant Oriana-A058 glancing at him and smiling slightly.

If anyone was itching for trigger time, it was Oriana. The leader of Red Team wanted to deploy. She wanted her team in the action and battle it out against the Covenant.

She made her way next to Clayton and studied the same map he was looking at.

"So, when do we deploy?"

He shrugged his shoulders to her question. Clayton knew she and Red Team were going in. The Spartan team spent the last 72 hours on the sidelines as Africa turned into the operational theater. Covenant forces were sprinkling themselves around Earth, but nothing major towards Australia.

"Soon. With a confirmed presence in Melbourne, you'll be deployed."

"How long is soon?"

After a long sigh, he looked up at her then back down at the table. She nodded at him and started to make her way out the door. It was about damn time; she been looking forward to getting back at the Covenant after Reach.

"Hey." She turned to see him staring at her. "Come back to me."

"I'll be fine Clay. Let me know when you got wings for us."

Outside of the temporary operations center erected by Special Warfare Group 3, Oriana walked into the barracks to find the rest of Red Team. Senior Chief Petty Officer Draven-A284 was lost in a book he got from an Army Ranger in his rack, Petty Officer First Class Emilia-A049 shuffled a deck of cards to keep Petty Officer Second Class Samuel-B256 engaged in another game. Things shifted in the team after Reach.

The three looked up at Oriana to see her with a smile, it was all they needed to know.

“About damn time. Where are we going?” Draven muttered.

“The wonderful city of Melbourne.” Oriana replied.

He tossed his book aside and stood up while the rest of the team finished their final thoughts. Oriana watched as Emilia smiled briefly at her as she walked with Draven to get her MJOLNIR armor. Samuel walked with Oriana. She handed him a datapad about the area and the growing Covenant forces.

“This is what we know so far?”

She gave him a curt nod and heard a light scoff from him.

“They used a lot more for Reach. This is it?”

“So far.”

“There will be more to come. This is Earth after all. The UEG’s capital world and we’re deployed to the most important region in the system.”

Oriana agreed with Sam’s statement. Inside of the MJOLNIR tent, Red Team worked with the technicians to get their Powered Assault Armor Mark V [B] put on correctly. Samuel was the only one to be comfortable around the ONI technicians as he placed the datapad on a table. It took time to get their armor placed on and Red didn’t like spending time out of their armor.

“How do you feel?”

Looking down at the head technician of his suit, Sam nodded with approval. He was glad to be back in his armor. His EVA helmet was handed to him and Sam made his way to the armory behind him to grab his kit.

The rest of Red Team was picking out their toys to kill the Covenant with. Draven glanced at Sam to see him bring along his beloved tomahawk.

“You know that tomahawk makes you look stupid?”

Sam glanced at Draven before turning back to grab his MA2B Assault Rifle with a silencer and recon sight along M6C magnum sidearm with a silencer and laser aiming module.

“Yeah, well it was given to me by one of my instructors. She told me what to use it for.”

“And what was that?”

“To bring back physical evidence that I took out the target.”

Grabbing two flashbangs and smoke grenades, Sam finished the rest of his kit off with six carbine mags and three mags for his sidearm.

“Headhunters always got the cool shit.” Draven muttered loud enough for Sam to hear it.

“Alright, let’s get set to hunt. Also, callsigns are the same. Ava will keep us up to date. Sam, you can handle the battlefield AI?”

“Yeah.”

Red Team made their way towards a UH-144 Falcon Hangar for a lift into Melbourne to join the fight. 72 hours later, Red Team was joining the Battle for Earth to defend Melbourne from the invading Covenant force.

Australia

Chapter One

1005 Hours, October 24, 2552 (UNSC Military Calendar)

Sol System, Earth, Australia, Geelong

Sam sat behind Draven as Red Team studied a nearby Type-27 Mantis. He knew if the Mantis stayed up, the UNSC had no chance of providing air support to units in Melbourne. Oriana and Emilia moved to higher ground where they gathered more information about the enemies guarding the Mantis. Emilia fed back information of roughly 20 Covenant soldiers providing security.

“Let’s go to work Red. The longer the Mantis is up, the more problems we’ll have.” Oriana said over TEAMCOM.

Sam double checked his MA2B rifle and nodded at Draven, he waited long enough to be given the green light. With two green winks on his HUD, Sam moved out behind Draven as Oriana moved to cover their rear. Emilia stayed in her spot to provide overwatch as the three others moved on the Mantis. Once Draven stopped at a corner, he glanced around to see the Mantis in sight along with the Covenant soldiers. He signaled Sam across the road and covered him as Sam made it to the other side.

“Flank around them, hit them from behind. Wink us when you get into position.” Sam gave a head nod to Draven’s instructions and made his way down an alleyway.

Both Oriana and Draven moved to approach the Covenant forces on another flank. Sam studied his HUD briefly to see where the enemies were before moving. One red dot moved closer to him and he knew the takedown needed to be quiet. Racking the rifle on his back, Sam grabbed his tomahawk and saw the Kig-Yar walking towards him. Moving back into a dark corner, he hid himself and waited for the Jackal to make the fatal mistake of walking off alone.

Once the Jackal got close enough, Sam grabbed it by the mouth to silence it from screaming and slammed his tomahawk into the neck. Cutting through, he decapitated the Jackal and held its head in his hand while the body crumpled to the ground. Making quick work after putting his tomahawk away, Sam threw the head back down the alleyway and dragged the body into the shadow. He took the point defense gauntlet and attached it to his left wrist before moving forward.

Oriana signaled Draven to move slowly as they got closer to the target, the Mantis remained in an open space with little cover to sneak up on. Once set, she signaled Draven to sit and wait for Sam to confirm his position. The two studied the few Jiralhanae, their ranks, the supporting units and any weak points to exploit. Oriana glanced up at her HUD to see the two green winks from Sam indicating he was in position.

“Execute.”

Sam moved swiftly from his position with his MA2B drawn to fire a quick burst into a Brute’s head, dropping it with ease. He heard the crack of Emilia’s sniper rifle and glanced left to see a Brute collapsing to the ground with its head. While targeting two other Grunts, Draven and Oriana pushed forward with accurate fire to drop four targets. Running towards the Mantis, Sam stared down a Brute roaring at him before unleashing another burst into its head. It didn’t take long for the three to arrive under the Mantis, they quickly reloaded their weapons and Oriana sent Draven up with Sam to take out the Mantis. She remained below to provide ground security.

“Sam, detonator.” Draven caught the detonator tossed to him and went to work on placing the charges. “One down. Detonation in 30 seconds.” Sam nodded and jumped back down to greet Oriana before moving around a corner to clear the blast.

“Detonation in 5.” Sam stared at the countdown on his HUD after hearing the automated voice of Ava over TEAMCOM.

A loud boom was heard and shook nearby buildings, blowing out the glass nearby. Oriana peeked around the corner to see the Mantis in flames and disabled.

She made quick work to report her information. “Red 00, Red 01. First Mantis down, moving to the second.”

Clayton replied with a short response. “Copy 01. Ava uploading next targets to your HUD. Keep me informed. 00 out.”

He worked to let a nearby Brigade of Army infantry know the SPARTANs cleared the way to the first Mantis. Once the Brigade was moving to support the area Red Team claimed, Ava sent a notification to Sam about the developing situation.

“The 498th Brigade is moving behind us to hold what we capture.” Sam said as he studied his HUD. “Good thing they brought a Brigade this time.”

Oriana stared at Sam and further behind. She knew the Army was going to hold what they captured. The UNSC was not going to let Australia fall to the Covenant. She was more surprised it wasn’t a division.

Turning to look at the other two SPARTANs, Oriana signaled Emilia to join them. “We got four more Mantis to hit till the UNSC got clear skies. We got our work cut out, let’s move.”

Red Team moved out with Draven taking point. The sound of battles being waged were faint to them. The more time Red spent screwing around, more lives were lost. They were instrumental for the UNSC gaining the air advantage against the Covenant. Nobody wanted to fight when the Covenant had air superiority.

“Sam, status?” Oriana saw the yellow blink on her HUD by his name. She signaled Draven to push forward towards the third Mantis with him. “Sam, give me a status report.”

Sam took a peek around a corner to see a Hunter approaching him. “Hunter at 12 o’clock. Got his buddy down, need assistance.” He waited for a response then saw Draven sprinting from the right.

Draven looked at Oriana then at the area. “Sam’s not far. Cover me, I’ll deal with the last one.” Oriana only nodded her head and waited. “Moving.” She popped up and fired once as Draven moved to a side building.

Oriana laid down more covering fire as Emilia picked off two Brutes looking at Draven, it gave him enough time to get around to a spot where he had a clear shot. Sprinting through the street, Draven drew his sidearm and shot one Jackal in the head and kept moving. He didn’t want to waste more time with Sam in danger.

Arriving on scene, Draven saw one Hunter laid dead on the ground with a massive hole in its chest. He concluded Sam used an explosive charge while getting up close and personal. Turning his attention back to the other Hunter, Draven had the drop. “Sam, keep it busy.” He only got a wink back from Sam as another blast from the Hunter’s cannon shot over him.

While Sam kept the Hunter distracted, Draven readied his M6 Spartan Laser and vaporized the head off the body. “Clear Sam, move!” He didn’t wait long after Draven engaged the Hunter and took down two Kig-Yar facing Draven. “You’re good Draven.”

Seeing a Grunt readying his plasma pistol, Sam activated his point defense gauntlet to prevent himself from getting hit but heard a crack. He looked up to see Emilia had taken care of the last enemy in the vicinity. Oriana fired two bursts into nearby Brutes to drop them with ease while Sam turned to another Grunt, drew his sidearm and put two into its head. Deactivating his gauntlet, Sam met up with Oriana and Draven to take out the last Mantis.

“What’s the view up there E, what do we got coming?” Oriana looked up to Emilia. She didn’t enjoy being on the ground without someone keeping their back.

“Aerial reinforcement, Covenant. Four Phantoms and a Banshee element heading towards us. ETA five minutes based on my assessment. Sent the information along to an AWACS. We should have air support soon once this last Mantis is down.”

Sam looked around for MANPADs to use as a way to take down any aerial platforms heading their way. The 498th Brigade was lagging behind with their own air defense platforms being setup and protected. Red Team was caught out in the open, they needed to retreat if the Banshees were coming.

Looking at Emilia, Oriana knew what they needed to do. “E, pack up and be ready to move. We’re going back to the 498th. No reason to scrap it out here when we got nothing to fight them with.” She then turned to Draven and Sam. “Torch it quick.” The two nodded and went to work on destroying their last Mantis before heading back.

Sam watched as Draven went to work on placing the charge and the two darted away before it blew up to take out the Mantis. They linked back up with Oriana to see Emilia joined them and they were on their way back to the 498th.

Of all places, the Central Business District of Melbourne became the hotbed for close-quarters battle for the UNSC and Covenant. It was urban hell, the UNSC was battling block-to-block with the goal of rooting out of the Covenant. Samuel studied the chaos on a digital device and watched the intelligence flowing from Ava. After leaving the 498th in control of Geelong, Red Team turned their focus towards the CBD. Oriana wanted to put the team into the thick of the action, to help relieve other units who lost a lot.

The Joint Operations Center had more than enough places for Red Team to deploy, but Sam had to pick one. Local police had augmented themselves as support personnel while the UNSC handled the majority of the fighting. Sam studied the JOC red threat areas and watched the Covenant battle patterns. They were moving East to West with some elements trying to come south. Control of the harbor was being held by the UNSC with help from locals. Sam watched the Covenant forces trying to take control of the harbor, but they failed thus far. An ODST Force Reconnaissance Company kept the enemies at bay.

“Sam any ideas for us?” Oriana looked at him after staring out the back of the troop transport Warthog. “We’ll need one soon.”

“CBD is where we should go.” He said after staring at his HUD. “It’s where they need us the most.”

After communicating his plan to Ava, the AI went to work on updating everyone and they planned for inserting into the CBD. Sam continued to study the region and communicated with a SPECWARCOM operations officer to understand the situation. The Covenant was using their standard tactics for city siege. Mechanized troops were deployed with assistance from air power to control the region. A host of vehicles were zipping around the cities while Covenant drop pods conducted shock infantry tactics. GROUNDNET was a chaotic mess he spent sorting through to understand which region needed the most assistance.

The 1st Battalion, 94th Marine Regiment was engaged in the heaviest fighting against the Covenant. They were the spearhead force along with the rest of the 97th Marine Expeditionary Brigade in the Area of Operation. Sam pinpointed the location of the battalion and pushed information forward to other members of Red Team about their insertion.

Once in West Melbourne, Sam dismounted with the rest of Red Team and made their way to the Mobile Command Center of the 1/94. Oriana walked in to discuss her assistance to the situation and where she needed to put her Spartans. The intel Sam provided her was spot-on, and she walked out with an intention to reinforce the right flank.

“We got our work cut out, let’s go to work.” Oriana said as the rest of Red Team got ready for some urban warfare. “E, I want you to augment yourself with a scout sniper platoon nearby. Work with them to support our push. The rest are with me taking the fight to the street.” Oriana glanced back once finishing to see Emilia heading her own way to support the fight.

Sam studied the current situation on the ground and noticed the Covenant were dragging the UNSC into their ambush points. When Oriana made it to C Company, watched a nearby Marine unit lay down fire into a building. “Hey Draven, the Covenant is drawing us into a horseshoe ambush. We know how to break this.” Sam said as he studied the Marine battle formation.

Once Oriana left talking with the Marine Captain, Red Team received 1st Platoon to assist their operation. Sam noticed they looked as old as him, with half the combat experience. Sam made sure to create a separate TEAMCOM to incorporate the Platoon leadership with help from Ava. Once settled, the force moved out towards Northeast Melbourne to flank the horseshoe ambush tactic.

“Sam, run ahead to see what we got.” Draven said.

Sam nodded and ran forward to reach a nearby street intersection to see Covenant forces moving around with vehicles. While it looked like a textbook horseshoe ambush setup, Sam knew it was bait to make the UNSC to stay put.

“Draven, they’re gonna run the Battalion with armor if we don’t move fast enough. Horseshoe is a decoy.” Sam said and received a green wink from Draven. “We can hit them now, spring the ambush early and have the UNSC catch them off-guard. Fog of war ought to cause some chaos.”

“Rog, we’re moving to you. You got eyes on a force?” Draven looked up to see a green wink. “Rog, ping it and we’ll assault it ASAP.”

Sam ping the location and send the data to Red Team’s HUD. Oriana and Draven moved up next to Sam. Oriana worked with the platoon to split it into three assault elements. Each SPARTAN was going to augment themselves into the 40-person platoon to support the assault. It didn’t take Sam long to realize he was going to be working with roughly 12 people to take out a Covenant target. He wanted to ensure no one died in his element.

Once Sam met the element leader, the two began throwing together an assault plan to take out their assigned position. Emilia gave Red Team a better picture of the area they were going to assault from her nest. Sam knew the importance of going first and located a few areas they needed to take out.

“Once we get in, we’re going to have the advantage with the element of surprise.” Sam said as he continued to look at the information. “Play it smart, fast, and lethal.” Once seeing the element was ready, Sam sent a green ping to Oriana to signify he was ready.

Moving on the position, Sam worked to hit it from behind where the communications tower was located. Once comms went down and Sam used a mobile jammer to prevent further communication, the rest of Red Team was going to assault. Oriana and Draven moved in to collapse the flanks and force the Covenant into the embedded UNSC positions.

Moving through an alleyway, Sam took point with his MA2B drawn. The rest of the assault element stuck close behind as they moved closer to the Covenant base. He glanced around the corner to see two Covenant sentries heading their way and flashed a signal for the element to know two Grunts were moving in their direction. A Marine moved next to Sam and prepared for the quiet takedown.

Once they came into view, Sam threw the first one to the ground for the Marine to shoot as he shot the other one in the head. Clear, they pushed closer to the communications tower. In visual range, Sam watched the patrol movements of the Covenant before planning to infiltrate the base with a fireteam. Eight stayed behind with their rifles trained on Covenant targets as Sam and a improvised demolition team reached the communications tower. Setting a delayed timer, it gave everyone a chance to pick their targets.

“Ready?” Sam looked at the Marines who were ready to drop some Covenant targets. “Boom.” He tapped his wristpad to activate his mobile jammer and watched as the communications tower exploded.

“Engage!” The element leader screamed. “Light those fuckers up!”

The sound of automatic fire rang through the air as the 13-person element engaged the unprepared Covenant forces.

“Moving in.” Oriana said as she engaged two targets with her element. “We’re establishing our ground. Covenant are moving to you Draven.”

“Rog.” He replied quickly and went to work on his sector. “Sam, that jammer good?”

“Yeah, they can’t talk.” Sam replied after popping a Grunt fleeing from the area.

Red Team created their own ambush and pushed the enemy into the UNSC positions. Sam continued to drop Covenant targets in his area as the Marines pushed forward to take down their targets. Moving up with the element, Sam engaged one Brute distracted by a Marine fireteam while another Brute trying to sneak up on him was taken out by Emilia. The street was filled with dead Covenant troops and spent brass. The vehicles the Covenant tried to use were destroyed by Draven.

“Jammer done.” Sam said as he turned it off. “That should get them moving.”

He waited to see what the UNSC was reporting on Covenant movements. Broadswords were making their pass on Covenant positions and dropping their ordnance while a Wombat analyzed the next target sequences. Seeing the Wombat footage, Sam knew the Covenant sprung early with the surprise attack and began moving forward without the approval of their commander.

“O, they’re moving. Found the CO’s position. Shall we go introduce ourselves?”

“Yes. Let’s move out. Ping the location, we got work to do.”

Sam reloaded his MA2B and prepared for hunting down the CO’s position. The rest of the Marine platoon was riding the adrenaline high and ready to hunt down the Covenant targets. Sam was worried about how many were going to die due to his inability to save them. He pushed the thought out of his head as the rest of Red Team infiltrated by enemy frontlines to engage their targets. It was time to take revenge for Reach.

Chapter Two

1905 Hours, October 27, 2552 (UNSC Military Calendar)

Sol System, Earth, Australia, Sydney Harbour

If salt water affected SPI armor, Sam knew it was going to affect MJOLNIR. His underwater training was finally coming into practice since he last qualified in 2544. SPARTANs didn’t do underwater operations often, but the Covenant were doing something in the harbor of the Unified Earth Government’s capital. Spartans were being called upon to deny the Covenant any chance of locating anything valuable.

A nighttime dive was considered the most dangerous and the Covenant put even more risks to the operation. Sam knew insertion and extraction were going to be the most dangerous since they didn’t know if the diver propulsion vehicles could be tracked by the Covenant. They were hoping sea life would cover their movement. Anybody in Red Team who had a fear of water needed to get it out of their system fast.

“Sam, how are we looking?” Oriana kneeled down next to Sam as she watched him study the vehicle. “Never done one of these so you’re on the lead.”

“Don’t drink the water, you’ll get more dehydrated.” He responded before looking at Oriana. “We should be fine. Covenant forces are moving towards the city based on GEOINT and MASINT scans. Not much else we can see up here till we’re down there.”

Oriana wasn’t happy to know so little, she liked having more intelligence to work with. If Sam was saying it was all he knew, then she needed to work with it. “Sounds vague for now, but guess we’ll have to work with it. Anything else we need to know?”

“Yeah, resort to combative when we are in the water. Bullets will only go so far. Until we got air, play it smart.” Sam said while preparing his MA5K for some underwater ops.

He dropped into the water and rose back up to see the DPV he was going to use. Oriana signaled for the rest of Red Team to follow him into the water. Red knew Sam could handle weird situations, hence why he was put on lead for handling the underwater operation. Activating the screen on his DPV, Sam looked at the information then sent a green wink to lead Red Team.

“Can’t see shit down here.” Draven muttered over TEAMCOM as he held his hand in front of his visor. “I know, radio silence.”

The activity underwater was quiet from Red Team, no one made an erratic movement. Sam watched as they got closer to the Covenant signatures, it wouldn’t be long till they dismounted from their DPVs. Not able to see anything and relying on the sensors made Sam enjoy the challenge. Once he felt they came close enough, he used his HUD lights to signal stop and dismount.

“Move forward, slowly. They won’t hear us coming, but they can feel us.” Sam said as he drew his tomahawk.

Swimming further down, he could see the Covenant forces below and the bright lights on the ocean floor. Draven knew he packed the right explosives for an underwater demolition operation. One red dot on Sam’s HUD told him there was an enemy on the outside conducting a patrol. He knew the enemy needed to be dealt with before breaching.

“Sam, you got him?” Oriana asked and only saw a green wink in response. “Happy hunting.”

Sneaking up on the Brute, Sam caught him unprepared and slashed his throat before another move was made. He needed to get used to combat underwater again since he had a significant disadvantage. Linking back up with Red Team, Draven and Sam dived down to the mobile platform and placed a charge on a hatch. Moving away, Draven tapped his detonator and saw nothing go off.

“Fucker.” Draven muttered under his breath and swam back to the charge.

Once getting close and spamming the button, the charge detonated, and the hatch blew down into the mobile platform. Oriana fell down first to see a stunned Grunt and shot it after clearing her gun of saltwater. The rest of Red Team fell in and cleared the area as water continued to rush into the mobile platform. They weren’t going to have long since the platform was going to lock down the area.

“Shields are down, must be the saltwater.” Emilia said as she checked her HUD.

“Rog, looks like we’re in for some CQB.” Draven responded while grabbing another charge.

Red Team took a moment to orient themselves and figure out where they were before moving forward. Sam worked to locate the command-and-control room as Draven worked to blast through an emergency door. Once the door had been blown open, Oriana took point and engaged the enemy as they came into view. The rest of Red Team moved with ease throughout the rooms and engaging the Covenant.

As Red Team got closer to the C2 Room, Sam noted how close UNSC submarines were getting to the platform. Tapping his wrist, he linked up with the comms officer stationed on the submarine for a status report.

“This is Lieutenant Yin, identify yourself.”

“Red 03, we’re on board the Covenant Platform directly below you SS Warden. We’re making our way to the C2 Room and we’ll link up with you.”

“ETA?”

“Five minutes, top.”

“Understood, contact us when you’re ready for extraction.”

Draven set off the last charge for the C2 Room and Red Team made their way to engage the remaining crew. Sam shot a Jackal running from its post and towards a door while Oriana and Draven decorated the walls with Brute blood. Once the bodies collapsed to the ground, insurance shots were put into the crew and they went to work on destroying the platform.

“It’s rigged, let’s get out of here.” Oriana said once Draven gave her a nod.

Samuel led the team out and towards an exit hatch. Once ready, Draven hit the detonation charge and Red Team escaped into the sea to barely watch the mobile platform explode. He contacted SS Warden and used a tracking sonar to help the submarine find Red Team.

“RP.”

“Religious Program Specialist? Shit dude, what’s your NEC?”

Red Team was due to meet up with a UNICOM Special Warfare Task Force assigned to B-6 to provide personnel security details for any significant leaders. They weren’t going to sit back at HQ and handle the security tasks. It was going to be a more offensive force to protect the HQ from getting attacked.

“What do you need?” The Captain asked as he stared up at Sam. “We got everything at our disposal. Orbital Bombing Strikes, CAS, Drones, and anything in-between. You need it? We got it. Wet Fleet is on standby as well.”

Sam looked at the officer and then at the Communications Sergeant. “I need SATCOM, SECNET, and the SPECWAR BATTLENET for the Region.” He then turned to the officer. “Get me access to the sats and drones, I want access to those when we’re moving. What’s the ROE?”

“Free to engage anything that’s hostile, ROE is relaxed here. If you do Danger Close, make sure you broadcast on the BATTLENET. Other than that, you’re good to send it.”

“Thank you, sir.” He offered a quick salute and made his way out of the SWJOC with Draven waiting for him.
