Early life and military career

Derek Bayer was born in the year 2528. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the UNSC Marine Corps, and after a few years of service, he joined the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODSTs). Bayer's leadership qualities and fierce, uncompromised loyalty towards the UNSC allowed him to become a high-ranking officer of the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), rising to the rank of Lieutenant. Following the Human-Covenant War, Bayer volunteered to become a SPARTAN-IV.
