Specialist Darwin Voltaire, nicknamed Darwie and Volty respectively, was a skilled yet unusual individual who voluntarily joined the UNSC Army in 2544 where he was immediately deployed to face off against the genocidal Covenant in the infamous Human-Covenant War. He fought with distinction in the Battle of Miridem alongside Sheila-065 and was one of the surviving participants of the tragic and traumatic Battle of New Llanelli.

Known for his extraordinary track record and honours, Darwin was eventually scouted and recruited into the UNSC affiliated Supersoldier Program, Project FREELANCER in 2549. Given the name Agent Alaska, Darwin became one of the project's best and skilled field operatives. However, due to Darwin's tendency to not take things seriously, as well as his humorous yet possibly sadistic personality, he was not widely recognized.

By 2551, discontent started to brew within Project FREELANCER as he and the other Agents eventually started to be wary of the multitude of missions they partook in, questioning the very purpose and morality of it. The final straw was when they became aware of all the crimes perpetrated by Director Leonard Church, realizing that all of them were mere tools and accomplices in his agenda. Outraged, the majority of the Agents rebelled, Darwin included. Following the Director's successful capture and incarceration in 2552, Darwin fought in the frontlines of the Human-Covenant War once again, most notably taking part in the long Battle of Tribute. He later fell into obscurity for several years before Victoria O'Connell managed to track him down at Paradise Falls, where she recruited him to independently take arms in the protection of Humanity and the Interspecies Union.

Darwin Voltaire's name came from Charles Darwin and Voltaire respectively, which also served to provide a base of inspiration for the Freelancer Character. Charles Darwin was an English Naturalist who proposed the Theory of Evolution and was the inspiration for Social Darwinism. Voltaire was a French Enlightenment Writer, Historian, and Philosopher born in the late 17th Century, who was famously known for his wit and advocacy of Civil Liberties.
Darwin Voltaire's Appearance is taken from Steven Skyler, an American Thai-German Actor-Model most notable for his work in Power Rangers Samurai, where he played the Gold Ranger (Antonio Garcia).
