Daniel Funderburg was an Office of Naval Intelligence Special Agent during the Post-War Era. Enlisting in the Marine Corps at age seven-teen, Funderburg was a career soldier who served throughout a considerable amount the war, and garnered considerable experience during his service. First seeing combat in 2533 at the Battle of Jericho VII, Funderburg participated in dozens of theatres against the Covenant before the war's end in 2553, most notably at New Constantinople, Falkirk, Reach and Earth.
Daniel was born on February 23rd, 2516, in a lofty villa in Flidais, the capital territory of Falkirk. Daniel's early childhood, from what he later recalled, was abundantly happy and extravagant, with him being brought up by his firm but fair parents along with his 3 younger siblings. Funderburg's mother was a Captain in the UNSC Navy, while his father was an Executive at the Offworld Shipping Company; however, his life was forever changed on January 16th, 2528, when the UNSC Theseus, the Hillsborough-class Destroyer his mother was commanding, was completely annihilated during the Fall of Madrigal, with the resulting loss of all hands. Daniel's already distant father suffered an emotional breakdown and unwilling to properly care for the twelve-year-old Daniel and his three younger sisters, sent them to live with their grandmother and grandfather in the Northern Badlands Territory until he had recovered. Daniel and his sisters stayed with them in a modest rural village for the next three years until he was fifteen; his father never spoke to them again, and simply gave his children over to their grandparents who were more than willing to take care of them. He was an average sports player at his school but was relatively popular, known for being jovial and sarcastic.
