"Cascade was one of the lucky ones, Covvies fortunately bypassed us, and Jacinto ended up taking the beating. After the war, Cascade played a large role in reestablishing control over the Inner Colonies and restarting the old pre-war trading routes for the UEG. Now that the war is over, the Cascadian secessionist movement has been growing and getting bolder every year. Things look nice and happy, but there's a powder-keg right below us waiting to blow."
―Colonial Governor Sanem Truman, 2556.

Cascade, also known as New Cascadia and Theta Mensae III (θ Mensae III) is an inner colony world, known for its small, yet significant agricultural industry, as well as being an important center for the technology field, an industry that boomed on the colony following the war. Cascade was settled during the early years of the Domus Diaspora and was primarily funded by a Sino-North American effort in 2369. That same year, the Republic of the Philippines announced a partnership with China and the URNA to settle the colony together, establishing the future capital city of Mindoro in 2371.

Early Chronology

Recent History

Human Discovery

Observations into the Theta Mensae system and its surrounding constellation, Mensa was headed by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) in 2018 following observations of the Pi Mensae system that resulted in the detection of a super-Earth on September 16, 2018. Theta Mensae became the next target for observation by TESS in the following weeks, but after seven months the telescope ended its search after failing to detect any Earth-like worlds within the star's inner system.

Future observations of the Theta Mensae would yield disappointing results and would totally cease for nearly five decades until the launch of the Fischer-Mann Transiting Satellite (FIMTS), launched by the Canadian Space Agency in 2062. Equipped with what was considered some of the most advanced instruments during its time, the FIMTS observatory directed its gaze at Theta Mensae in 2067 and continued to study it for a total of 224 days, in which it detected three terrestrial worlds, which managed to elude observation decades earlier. In 2069, the CSA officially released documentation confirming at least one Earth-like world orbiting Theta Mensae. Further studies later revealed planet displayed strikingly similar characteristics to Earth in size, atmospheric compositions and distance from its star.

Colonization

"China and North America always held the most sway in colonization rights during the Domus Diaspora. Today, close to a half of the Inner Colonies have either been settled or funded by them, with their influence still reaching the Outer Colonies. You wanna know why humanity expanded so fast into space in such a small amount of time? Thank Chinese and North American enthusiasm."
―Historian Qiu Chen being interviewed for Our Interstellar Destiny: History of the Domus Diaspora by Sidney Cochran, 2522.
