Best characterised as being the larger cousin of the infamous CAS-class assault carrier, the CSO-class supercarrier is the largest model of capital ships utilised by the Covenant Empire before, during and after the Human-Covenant War.
Operational HistoryHuman-Covenant WarVariantsCauteriser-patternBuilt to the standards of the Medural-pattern assault carrier by the Jiralhanae, the Cauteriser-pattern supercarrier was built over several decades using smuggled Covenant technology to produce a CSO-like ship. It is a more rugged ship, focusing on heavy armor and firepower over mobility. The Cauteriser has much of the same weapons as the Nuvaar, but is significantly weaker. Endarvon-patternUtilised almost exclusively by the First Fleet of Gallant Ingenuity, the Endarvon-pattern supercarrier was introduced in 2558 when the Extension of Omnipresence recieved the upgrade as part of its repairs at Drakkar alongside the Monumental Law. Like all First Fleet ships these ships have multiple redundent systems in place to prevent electromagnetic attacks from affecting them, albeit disabled for only a few minutes. Among other improvements are improved impulse engine drive systems and improved nanolaminate armor, making them faster and stronger than the Nuvaar-pattern. Endarvon-pattern supercarriers are also more automated, requiring only a tenth of the crew of a Nuvaar to operate effectively. A refresh of this pattern occured in 2569 with improvements to capacity and removal of older systems that are no longer in use. Nuvaar-patternEasily the most common variant of supercarrier, the Nuvaar-pattern supercarrier was introduced in 2245 when the lead ship of the CSO-class, the Enduring Tempest, was released from its assembly forge. Nuvaar is believed that the resources alone for each carrier could have been used for at least a dozen assault carriers, making these the most expensive ships in the Covenant Empire.
