C-13 Gertex is a UNSC explosive device designed for demolitions. The name 'Gertex' is the manufacturer's name for the plastic explosive material. The explosive material is undetectable by any sensor material, including x-ray sensors, sniffer dogs, ARGUS Sensors and other methods. This allows it to be smuggled anywhere, as anything, in any form, and it is almost twice as explosive as its counterpart, C-14. It is much more unstable however, being susceptible to shock, electricity and heat. This means it can be set off by any of the above with ease.

It is extremely limited in its manufacturing, with only a few plants making it, all of which are a military secret. Along with that, its creators and its material are also a top secret. It is used strictly by black op forces as a method for assassinating enemies with no means of being detected or traced. The lack of evidence itself provides evidence, often requiring the mixture to be mixed with common household materials that won't raise alarms.

Gertex can be activated by any means, from as crude as light fuses and as advance as remote operated radio detonators and other explosive devices. It is often deployed in a M379 Explosive Pack for more conventional uses. The explosive is injected with highly classified Tykos-37 Nano tracking material to allow each 'block' of material to be traced back to its source. The Tykos material leaves behind an 'shadow' that can be traced. Due to the highly classified nature of it, few know of it outside the users of Gertex, and UNSC ordnance disposal.
