"She's a former Radio Reconnaissance Officer; artist at planning and executing operations. I found her in the Naval Special Weapons sector where she handled covert operations then took her under my wing. I worked to sharpen her effectiveness and we worked together to be a force within Section Three."
―Vilda Stenbeck on her prodigy, Aniela Kasowska.

Leaving the Marine Corps and joining the Office of Naval Intelligence, Aniela started to assist in some of the most covert missions being conducted by the UNSC Armed Forces.

Biography

Early Life

In preparation for joining the Cascade Military Institute, Aniela transferred to the Cascade Military Preparatory Academy in Mindoro to spend two years on getting ready for life in the military. She took on an Associates Art of Science program and met her mentor during the first year of the fall. She rose to the rank of Cadet Captain and led an Academic Company while also attending a variety of competitions. Graduating in 2546, Aniela was accepted into the Cascade Military Institute with a desire to serve in the UNSC Marine Corps.

Attending Cascade Military Institue, she selected the Marine Corps Reserve Officer Training Corps option and began the rigorous lifestyle. As a student, Aniela was indoctrinated into the CMI lifestyle and program to where she learned about the Human-Covenant War and the Insurrection. During her time, she rose through the Cadet Corps as a respected cadet and strong leader. Due to her experience at the Cascade Military Preparatory Academy, Aniela found herself prepared for the life of being a military officer. She graduated from the CMI with a Major in Computer Science and the rank of Cadet Lieutenant Colonel. Aniela commissioned into the UNSC Marine Corps in 2550.

UNSC Marine Corps

"I loved the UNSC Marine Corps, I loved every single second of my time there. The brother and sisterhood helped create some of my favorite memories. The people around me made me feel invincible and I miss them everyday. If it wasn't for the Marine Corps, I don't know where I would've ended up in life."
―Aniela thinking back on her past as a UNSC Marine Corps officer.

Commissioning into the UNSC Marine Corps in the summer of 2550, Aniela began training as a Signals Intelligence/Ground Electronic Warfare Officer on Cascade. She attended schools and courses across the planet before graduating from the school's pipeline in the early winter of 2552. Aniela was slotted to attend UNSC Marine Corps Scout Sniper Course to lead a Surveillance and Target Acquistion Platoon but was reassigned to attend UNSC Marine Corps Radio Reconnaissance School. After completing the Radio Reconnaissance School pipeline in the spring of 2551, she was assigned to the 32nd Marine Division, 32nd Radio Battalion as a Radio Reconnaissance Platoon Commander.

During the Fall of Reach, Aniela saw action against the Covenant during the Battle of Quezon and Siófok where she led ground electronic warfare and signals intelligence missions. Attached to the 84th Marine Expeditionary Brigade, she provided critical information for the Brigade Commanding General on time-sensitive decisions. Aniela ultimately survived the Fall of Reach and was recognized for her actions in conducting ground operations to support the Marine Expeditionary Brigade.

Aniela deployed to Luna and prepared for the Covenant invasion of the Sol System. During the Sol Siege, she participated in the Battle of Mare Nubium and supported the 32nd Marine Division by conducting counter-intelligence electronic warfare against Covenant forces. She continued to participate in a variety of operations alongside the 32nd Marine Division as they fought across Luna. Aniela later redeployed to Earth and supported the Battle of Aranuka and the URNA Southwest Campaign where she assisted the 55th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Following the end of the Human-Covenant War, she was assigned to the 65th Shock Troops Division, Shock Troops Support Group, as an Assistant Operations Officer on a temporary posting between 2553 and 2554.

Aniela served in a Radio Reconnaissance Company as a Company Commanding Officer under the 34th Marine Expeditionary Brigade and deployed to Draco III to suppress the United Rebel Front in 2554. During a Long-Range Reconnaissance Patrol with the company, her warthog was attacked by a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device. After a CASEVAC, she was transported to a nearby UNSC Field Hospital to understand her situation. Due to the severe injuries, Aniela was medically evacuated from Draco III and taken to a mobile hospital station for further analysis. There, she learned of a traumatic brain injury, second degree burns, a shattered femur, and many other issues. Aniela learned she had a tough road ahead of her to even get back into the field as a field officer.

Remaining in the 32nd Marine Division, Aniela attempted to attend Marine Air Ground Task Force Intelligence Officer school three months later, but failed due to her physical constraints. In an attempt to stay within her MOS, she attempted to join the ONI Signals Corps as an Exchange Officer but was turned down. Aniela was unable to participate in further deployments and later assigned as a Marine Corps Recruiting Officer for UNSC Personnel Command on Cascade in 2555. There, she was tasked with recruiting Marine Corps prospective candidates. One month into the job, she was contacted by the Office of Naval Intelligence with a branch transfer. Aniela left the UNSC Marine Corps one week after receiving a transfer offer from ONI.

Office of Naval Intelligence

Reassigned to the Naval Special Weapons as a Signals Intelligence Officer, Aniela served as an Assistant Operations Officer on Captain Annabelle Richarde staff. She helped with planning numerous covert operations for NAVSPECWEP and Section Three's Black Operations Division. In 2557, Aniela transferred to the Beta-5 Division, Asymmetrical Action Group as a Signals Intelligence Officer. She was assigned to the AAG as a Task Unit Executive Officer during Objective Juniper Orbit and assisted in hunting the New Colonial Alliance. She served as the Operations Officer of Team Osage until 2558 after being cited for abuse of power by a Section Zero Investigation Team.

Clearing her name from the abuse of power, she returned as the Operations Officer of Team Osage and transferred to the ONI Special Activities Division prior to the start of the Created Conflict. While with the Special Activities Division, she handled reconnaissance operations as an Operations Officer and served as a Ground Force Commander.

Relationships

"You just do not know when to quit, do you? You're putting your career in serious jeopardy by dating a subordinate and concealing it from others. It's quite obvious you two are not roommates. This isn't some game where you get caught and let go, this will end your career. You need to either cut ties with him or find a way to make it work with ONI's approval. Either way, you're in hot water and you need to get out before you burn yourself."
―Vilda to Aniela in 2558 following the ONI Section Zero Investigation.

In 2557, Aniela met Samuel while she was serving as a Task Unit Executive Officer and enjoyed working around him due to his specialty and loyalty. The idea of pursuing a relationship with a SPARTAN sparked her desire in wanting to get something she needed to work for. She enjoyed walking around the fraternization line within the UNSC and found Samuel to be a playful fling. Throughout 2557, Aniela spent her time seducing him and scoring a SPARTAN in her book even though he was seeking a more serious commitment. Once he opened up to her about himself, she took a more serious take on their relationship and sought to find ways in supporting him. Aniela knew she was breaking a variety of fraternization rules by remaining as the direct superior officer of Samuel and ultimately came under an investigation by Section Zero in 2558.

Stripped away from her job and Samuel, Aniela worked relentlessly to get back both, but found herself divided between one or the other. However, she used her network of contacts to help clear her name of the charges and settled with a non-judicial punishment. Following the start of the Created Crisis, she reunited with Samuel and Team Osage under the Special Activities Division. Aniela failed to maintain a balance between her career and personal life, affecting both of them and their abilities to complete their assigned jobs. Once Samuel forced her to separate from her job of being a Ground Force Commander of Team Osage, they promised to find a way to remain together under ONI's support following the Created Crisis.
