With the battle for Earth in full swing, Echo felt out of her element. Slow, methodical missions were in short supply. Instead, Echo took saboteur assignments, leading small forces to disrupt enemy staging grounds and supply lines. The most successful was DRY RAIN.
In order to help stop the flood of Covenant attacking Earth, ONI ordered Echo to head behind enemy lines and destroy the fledgling communications equipment outside of Voi. To assist her, a squad of ODSTs were deployed alongside her. The squad composed of Staff Seargant Leslie Olman, Lance Corporal Roger Trude, and Corporal Henry Idost.

The Covenant prepared to drop several Scarabs onto Earth. ONI did not want them to reach the planet and assigned Echo to stop them by any means necessary. Short on time, Echo only took three ODSTs - Staff Seargant Leslie Olman, Lance Corporal Roger Trude, and Corporal Henry Idost - and enough explosives to level a city block. The small team boarded a Pelican, flown by Echo, and headed out.
The SPARTAN and her support inserted into the town of Voi while the Covenant sieged the city. Echo, assisted by Trude, secured a Phantom. Using the Phantom, the team infiltrated the Covenant battle lines and set about looking for main communications array. They located it just outside of the main dig site, in what was essentally a killbox for anyone trying to destroy it.

  +
On the way to intercept the transport ship, Echo realized they could do so much more damage if they destroyed the transport ship inside the cruiser. The ODST's agreed. The four soldiers prepared for a long, grueling fight, and boarded the Covenant cruiser.
The ODSTs were ready to sacrifice themselves in order to save Earth, but Echo had other plans. She set Olman, Trude, and Idost on a hill overlooking the communications relay with the orders to return to base once the relay is confirmed destroyed. Echo then took the Phantom and charged it directly into the relay. The resulting crash destroyed the relay and severely damaged the Phantom.

  +
The pelican crashed into the hanger believed to be storing the transport ship. The ODSTs came out guns blazing, followed shortly by Echo as she went to arm the explosives. It became a race against time; Echo needed to arm the explosives and get back to the Pelican before the Covenant flooded the hanger with soldiers. Despite Trude and Olman suffering heavy wounds and Idost running out of ammunition, Echo completed her objective before the ODSTs were overwhelmed. The team managed to escape on their Pelican, and the resulting explosion destroyed the Scarabs and crippled the cruiser.
Echo limped out of the damaged Phantom and engaged the Covenant guarding the now destroyed relay. After several minutes of intense fighting, the ODSTs appeared in a stolen Prowler. Echo chastised Olman for disobeying orders, then thanked her for coming back, which Olman accepted before driving out of the immediate area.

Once the group was clear of the communications array, Echo and the ODSTs did their best to stay out of sight and return to UNSC controlled territory. After a gruelling three days of no food or sleep, they finally made it to friendly forces. The ODSTs returned to their unit with a couple of new medals, while Echo waited for reassignment from ONI.

When John-117 returned to Earth, Echo felt a sense of relief. If there was anyone who could save the planet, it would be him. Echo started running operations to supplement the Master Chief. That changed when the Flood attacked.

Echo and a detachment of Marines watch in awe as the Flood ship crashed to Earth. Their awe turned to terror as Flood spores started to infect the bodies around them. Echo immediately called for a retreat. However, Flood appeared behind them, cutting off their escape.

The Marines fell to the Flood, one by one; Echo could only watch as her fallen allies stood up once again on the side of the enemy. By the time the battle was over, eighteen marines turned into three. The four survivors managed to leave the area and avoid the glassing.

Amy-A090, later in life going by her callsign Echo, is a quiet woman whose skills in CQC and hand-to-hand combat served as the cornerstone of her career. Initially a member of SPARTAN-III’s Alpha Company, she was reassigned to the Headhunters where she diligently eliminated Insurrectionists. ONI took a interest in her career, recruiting her after her discharge from the Headhunters. As an operative of ONI, Echo fought in the Battle for Earth where she successfully took out Covenant HVTs and survived the Flood outbreak. After the Human-Covenant War, the SPARTAN-IV program recruited Echo, where she currently serves as a trainer for hand-to-hand combat and CQC tactics.

Biography

Childhood

Amy was born to Delilah and Henry Youngster on the Human colony of Bliss. Due to the unrest of the outer colonies, Amy was sent to live with her maternal grandmother on Earth. Not long after, the Covenant glasses Bliss, killing Delilah and Henry. Too young to understand what happened, all Amy wanted was her parents back.

A recruiter appeared one day to offer Amy a chance to avenge her parents. Her grandmother objected, but Amy was taken by the recruiter to join the SPARTAN-III program.

SPARTAN training

In her early days undergoing training, Amy displayed a singular-minded bloodthirst towards the Covenant, giving her training everything for the simple goal of killing every Covenant soldier she came across. This drive, combined with a knack for CQC combat, caught the eye of the Headhunters, and Amy was transferred the opposite side of Onyx for Headhunter training.

During training, Amy bonded with Rose-A402, another Headhunter candidate. The pair quickly became fast friends and rivals, each pushing the other to improve. Both soldiers graduated, becoming Headhunters and a two-man team.

Headhunter Operations

"Headhunter has an obvious job description. You go out and hunt heads. What they don’t tell you is coming back alive is an optional objective."
―Echo on what she did as a headhunter.

As a headhunter, Amy specialized in the assassination of Insurrectionists, much to her chagrin. She signed up to fight the Covenant, not humans. But orders were orders, and she carried out her missions with lethal precision. Two successful assassinations and a half-dozen smaller operations earned Amy the rank of Lieutenant, but she was still relegated to anti-Insurrectionist operations.

Amy prepared for another assassination when word came that Operation: PROMETHEUS was a success, but every SPARTAN-III died during the op. The operation proved the SPARTAN-III’s effectiveness, despite the loss. Amy felt apathetic at the news; as for her parter, Rose was found crying in the bathroom at the massive casualties. The two spent nearly an hour in the bathroom together until Rose calmed down enough for the pair to finish prepping for their mission.

Another three assassinations and twelve intelligence gathering operations passed. Amy and Rose grew closer. A group of SPARTAN-III’s from Bravo company joined the Headhunters. And still, Amy’s assignments were always against humans. Amy put pressure onto her superiors to assign her missions to strike against the Covenant, and her requests were denied again. To placate Amy, her superiors promoted her to Lieutenant Commander.

Operation: PALE LAKE

After the slaughter of SPARTAN-III’s Bravo company during Operation: TORPEDO, ONI needed an Elite Shipmaster removed, and they assigned Amy and Rose to the operation. The pair geared up and set out.

Initial proceedings were successful. Amy and Rose confirmed the identity of the Shipmaster, infiltrated the covenant cruiser, and sabotaged the engines to throw the ship in chaos. However, their assassination attempt failed, as the Shipmaster anticipated the attack on his life and surrounded himself with soldiers. Despite their best attempt, Amy and Rose pulled back without killing the Shipmaster.

On the Headhunters’ way to exit the cruiser, an Elite impaled Rose with his energy sword. Amy could only watch as her best friend was tossed to the side unceremoniously, dead before she hit the floor. The Elite advanced towards Amy, only to meet pure fury. Amy killed the Elite, then used his energy sword to carve a path through the ship’s crew to the hanger. A stolen Seraph served as Amy’s escape.

ONI Operative

Upon returning from her failed mission, Amy suffered a degradation to Lieutenant. Due to her mental state from the loss of Rose, she was also discharged from the Headhunters. She did not dispute either punishment. ONI, however, had been waiting for an opportunity to snag Amy for their black ops, and gave her an offer: Restore her rank, provide access to advanced equipment, and total freedom on how to run her operations.

Amy accepted.

As a SPARTAN operative of ONI, Amy took the callsign Echo and started tracking and eliminating Covenant HVTs. While initially undertaking operations as a lone wolf, she eventually started undertaking operations with ONI black ops, marine, and SPARTAN forces.

After the fall of Reach, Echo knew she needed better equipment. She requisitioned a set of MJOLNIR Mark V/B armor, outfitted for hazardous and CQC engagements, then proceeded to focus on identifying and destroying supply routes and support fleets. Her plans were cut short after the Covenant discovered Earth.

Battle for Earth

"I already lost one home to the Covenant. I won’t lose another."
―Echo during the Battle for Earth

Echo returned to Earth as soon as possible, missing the initial conflict but quickly working with UNSC forces to destory what remained of the Covenant. Her rapid identification of Covenant HVTs and an operation to take out a Shipmaster helped to stall the Covenant advance outside of East Africa. However, with Truth’s fleet now in orbit above Earth, the battle only begun.

Operation: DRY RAIN

With the battle for Earth in full swing, Echo felt out of her element. Slow, methodical missions were in short supply. Instead, Echo took saboteur assignments, leading small forces to disrupt enemy staging grounds and supply lines. The most successful was DRY RAIN.

On the way to intercept the transport ship, Echo realized they could do so much more damage if they destroyed the transport ship inside the cruiser. The ODST's agreed. The four soldiers prepared for a long, grueling fight, and boarded the Covenant cruiser.

Final Defense of Earth

While the Master Chief went to the Ark, Echo remained behind. Earth was still under attack, and Echo didn’t plan for it to fall to the Covenant. After several days of battle, Echo took part in Operation: MARSH FLASH by successfully eliminating a Brute Chieftan. Soon after, the battle - and the war - was over.

SPARTAN-IV Program

With the war over, Echo left ONI and wanted to retire to a settlement on Bliss. However, the SPARTAN-IV program looked to recruit all surviving SPARTAN-IIIs, including Echo. After much consideration, Echo accepted.

As a SPARTAN-IV, Echo earned a name for herself as expert in CQC and one-on-one combat. Armed with VENATOR-class armor and a custom magnum from her days in ONI, few SPARTAN-IVs could match her in single combat. Eventually, her skill would cause her to be pulled from active duty to instead train new SPARTAN-IVs in hand-to-hand and single target combat.

Character

Appearance

Standing at 6'8" (2.032m) tall, Echo is built for combat. Her red hair is kept short as to not interfere with her helmet. The augmentation process left her muscular and broad. Several plasma scars are scattered about her body, mainly centered around her chest and back.

Personality

"The greatest weapon you can have against someone is knowing who they are."
―Echo, about gathering intel on HVTs

Echo is a quiet person. A life of losing those close to her has left her soft spoken and humble, even in victory. She’s not one for small talk and is not afraid to speak her mind. While a life of a soldier leaves little time for hobbies, Echo doodles in her free time.

In combat, Echo is calm and focused. She is quick to discard empty weapons for whatever she can scavenge on the battlefield. Single shot weapons are her go-to, as indicated by her signature magnum sidearm, but she’ll take whatever weapon the situation calls for. Her preferred weapon, however, is her combat knife.

Echo’s immense hate for the Covenant served as fuel for her early years, but eventually the rage subsided and was replaced by sorrow and loss. Her family and close friends died at the hands of the Covenant, making it hard for Echo to create lasting bonds. Her hate also hurt early relations with the Covenant, but eventually Echo came to accept the Sangheili as allies.

Equipment

Custom M6D Echo’s trusty sidearm. Customized with a muzzle break and variable 2x-6x scope.
Combat knife Standard issue combat knife, engraved with ROSE on one side and EXPENDABLE on the other.
MJOLNIR Mark V Armor Echo’s armor worn during the Battle for Earth. Gungnir (CBRN) helmet, CQC shoulder pads, Patrol chest. Rust finish.
