The Alien Profile Information Database, shortened API Base or simply API, was a database created by ONI to store all information on aliens of intrest. The Database's main server was located in Sidney, Earth but several off-world servers were maintained across Human Space. It was first proposed in 2527 and accepted for implentation the year after in late 2528. API was completed in early 2529 and collected all gathered data on Covenant personal into a single server. The database was primarily used by ONI operatives tasked with assassination of Covenant personal and identification of said targets during the Human-Covenant War though it was also used by UNSC officers in the event that they believed that they were dealing with a particular Covenant commander or exceptional dangerous individual.
To keep the various databases up-to-date as much as possible, the many servers were updated by encrypted transmissions from automated freighters that transported people and goods across the colonies.
Data classification[]
To better help UNSC and ONI personal retrive the desired profile to read, the database was sorted into different classifications based on the race of the alien and their current confirmed rank within the Covenant military. After the Human-Covenant War, was the database's classifactions expanded to also include the additional classifications of Pirate, Mercenary and Terrorist. A secret fourth classification was also added which composed of those ex-Covenant individuals that now worked for ONI. This classifaction was labled Associates and was only visable and accessable to personal of a particular rank or satus with ONI. As the Covenant split up into many factions the database also had to take these into account and so a list of confirmed and suspected alien factions were also added to the database.
The classification followed a simple number and letter system which was easily modified to accommodate new data that would require changes to the search engine itself. This was based loosely on the Covenant Oracle Code system.
