The Cossack Volunteer Artillery was a unit formed of Cossack refugees from Glabetov after the fall of the planet to the United Nations Space Command in 2554. Hoping to bring in other refugees from planets that had been lost to the UNSC to form into foreign units under their command, the Gilgameshan government created the Volunteer Artillery as an elite unit, placing Captain Dominic Abreu, a Victorian Independent State refugee from a Cossack family and former officer in the Victorian Armored Corps, in charge. Their armament consisted of the newest UNSC howitzer, the M440 112mm, in order to further their status as an elite unit.
